Tell us the names of these places and their populations if possible.
This area looks like a high middle class and rich area.

I said low middleClass and low income. Pls get the difference.

It's fairly close to their CBD, so it probably is more of a richer area.

What's your education system?

It's just naming. The name college in Nigeria refers to secondary schools or high schools. It's just a different naming system.

You're talking of college while he was talking about public/national secondary schools in Kenya that are of high standards achieving excellent academic records for the past 4 decades

Meanwhile, these are Alliance girls and alliance boys respectively

Then st Mary's school yala and starehe boys centre.

In Nigeria colleges are secondary schools

You got nothing - outside Andela (which is wrongly attributed to Nigeria - instead of New York) once off funding last year - you're way behind Kenya and South Africa.

Just this week Cellulant (Kenya) - sold some of it's shares for 40-50M dollars - that is again nearly 15B naira.Cellulant - get 47.5M dollars funding from US group.

Did u research Cellulant? Cellulant was founded by a Nigerian and Kenyan. It has headquarters in both Nigeria and Kenya.

Its biggest market is in Nigeria though

Ken Njoroge(Kenyan) is a co-founder and ceo as well as Bolaji Akinboro(Nigerian) who is also a co-founder an ceo.

So i guess here it's 50/50. Glad to see the two biggest tech countries in Africa working together.

Is it me or those picture i posted do not look wack. This is coming from a person who has schooled in America. Those pictures are not even pictures i would dream that a 3rd world country like Nigeria would have.

The schools look lovely(on any standard) and are quite the expense. Ultimately i would like more public schools in Nigeria to look like those private schools i posted

Let's see private schools in Kenya shall we?

2) All Andela and Jumia I have come to discovered are from Nigeria diaspora - who comeback from US to do something in Nigeria. In Kenya - nearly all tech is from kenyans who've never set their foot in any shores.

So what, it was the indian diaspora that helped develop India's ict sector that's well renowned today. Diaspora has helped several nations including America develop.

But if you want to go with that viewpoint,
At least it was black Nigerians not some "white Kenyans"

Most african americans are now mixed races - just a lot of admixtures with whites. They are not the native nigerians your sold 200 yrs ago. Your people are the world worst bleachers by a huge mile.

Yes there are some with white admixture no doubt but facts remain that even before the modern creation of Nigeria there were accounts of lightkskinned igbos who were to be slaves.

Search it up. The igbos were recognized by their light skin. It probably has to do with the igbos coming from a heavily forested region.

If Nigeria data was credible - then it would cross-reference with consumption/expenditure data - and such indicators of progress or middle class. I have given you a good example. South Africa. Nigeria claims to have large middle class than South Africa - which is moronic - but show me where that middle class lives, works, schools, shops, eats, drive and etc. You cannot hide wealth. And also if gov is so disfuctional as not to provide you with electricity, good roads and other such amenities - then calling yourself middle-class is a little rich.

So there are many indicators to look at.
1) Malls - You expect middle class to attracts mall developers - Nigeria's Lagos has less than 200K mall spaces (give and take entire Nigeria has 1M) - compared to South Africa's total of 23M! Nigeria I think has half kenya's formal retail penetration - so that Nigeria middle class only exists in CBN stats office books.
2) Private schools - show me those?

We can go on and on - but we need EMPERICAL data outside CBN cooked national accounts that we can use to verify and cross-reference anything that comes of Nigeria as figures.

It's true Kenya had a head start on building modern retail space, no doubt. Modern retail space is fairly nascent in Nigeria

Here's an article from MCkinsey: https://www.mckinsey.com/business-functions/marketing-and-sales/our-insights/africas-growing-giant-nigerias-new-retail-economy

And another one from euromonitor: http://www.euromonitor.com/grocery-retailers-in-nigeria/report

Modern retail space has been booming in Nigeria recently with Nigeria's formal retail space more than doubling recently...
In no time Nigeria will catch up, giving its huge population

8 years ago a middle class Nigerian would have probably went to the local market or some poor quality building to buy his necessities. To go to malls, he would have to travel far distances go to the nearest mall or travel abroad

Today the dynamics have changed. The middle class Nigerian has options with more and more malls being built around him. He has stores now like shoprite, spar, game, and others to choose from. Now Nigerian indigenous investors are seeing the opportunities and expanding rapidly. Nigeria has its own version of Sam's Club now(NEXT)

Neighborhood malls and stores are also fast becoming a trend these days

What's fascinating is that investors are not only interested in Lagos and Abuja, they also see the middle class outside Lagos and Abuja and are rapidly expanding into 2nd tier cities in Nigeria as well

Don't see why formal retail space is recently booming in Nigeria if there isn't a substantial middle class...

BTW the the two rivers mall is about to get beat by a mall in Eko Atlantic. The eko mall will be about twice the size of the Kenyan mall.

I do admit though retail growth was a bit shaky during the 2yr recession(as to be expected) but things are looking positive again

And what makes you think after Kenyan independence from British - they remained to build our towns and cities - or industries or name it. Our first business in 1963 after our independence was to kick out whites from farms (more than 1M acres), rename anything they had named, africanize the civil services, the business and economy. This we achieved before 1970!!. Kenyan economy now is predominantly Africa - yeah we got a few 80K indians, 50k arabs and 20K whites - who are kenyans or residence - and we have no problem with them. Kenya is welcoming, modern and hospital country. The last two US ambassadors to Kenya choose to remain here.

Nigeria you never even did the basics - stuff like names are as important as bleaching. They don't cost anything but they are important in building a dignified proud nation. Start by stopping the bleaching menace, rename port harcourt , lagos and whatever else still carries brutal memories of colonialism and slavery. And you'll start building a nation.

How come South Africa has Port Elizabeth or why America has New York(named after a place in England)... It's not necessary to change names. Today the Lagos of Nigeria is more popular than the Lagos in Portugal. New York is more popular than York in England...

How much bleaching agents did she use to get there that mention by Amanpour. That is probably what inspire all Nigerians to go on bleaching spree.

Lupita Nyongo black as soot - is way better actress with a OSCAR AWARD for that. People recognize frauds from far - because you self-esteem disguised as pride is just all over you.

Yeah I have been wondering why Nigeria look light - yet geographically and genetically - they should be black - now I know. I mean South African are naturally light - and north africans too - but suddenly in the middle of congo & niger forests - everyone turns light skin - after injesting dangerous chemicals.

You guys need national therapy.. You never get the respect or amount to anything until you do that. When you can look at your natural black color and feel happy about it - then you'll start to crawl out of the mess you're in. Otherwise you'll keep running out of the country and out of your behind..only to find nobody wants or love you.

Why are some black Americans light... Afterall they were taking from west africa with a substanitial amount from Nigeria

Truth is yes people bleach but naturally Nigeria has light-skinned(some very light skinned) and darkskin people. Nigeria is a mix of skin tones.

Some ethnic groups in Nigeria though are renowned for their light skin such as the igbos and fulanis

Middle class is not just some figures. If you don't have electricity - you're not middle class. Leave alone shopping mall. You see you can cook data - but you cannot cook manifestation of poverty or middle class. So Nigeria can claim to have 20% people earning 20 dollars per day - but where are those people living, shopping, school, vacationing - where is the middle class family of 2-3 happy kids smiley?.

South Africa is middle class - and you can see it with you naked eyes. You don't need cook stats or charts.

Most middle class Nigerians take their children to private schools(which are alot) because of the failure of public schools. They also go to private clinics where they may receive better service. Several middle class families vacation in the U.S.,London and Dubai where they also shop in formal spaces(because of the apparent lack of formal spaces in Nigeria as you mentioned). These facts are well known in Nigeria.. Nothing new

All these based on cooked GDP figures from Nigeria stats office. Middle class is living in house that has basics - electricity, water, sewage, broad band, with a car or two, fridge or such household goods, with kids going to good schools, with maybe holiday or two, with bank account, shopping in supermarket and malls, probably owning the house they live in, earning at least some decent salary (maybe 500usd at minum)..living in decent secure neighberhood...that is MIDDLE CLASS. Nigeria cooked stats is NOT middle class. Nigeria on electricity metric alone means there is no middle class in Nigeria...you have what 10 hours at best electricity...your fridge is probably dead if any....you mostly shop in corner shop...you kids go in some worse schools..insecurity everywhere...Nigeria is warzone...it cannot boost of any middle class. If it did....consumer goods companies would be rushing there...

South Africa has Africa biggest Middle class (Not Nigeria - unless you trust cooked figures). Kenya has decent middle class.

What middle class is there in Nigeria...when it's formal mall space is so tiny? Where do Nigeria middle class shop smiley? Kenya is second only to South Africa in formal retail (malls & stores) where middle class shop- who are so far ahead of everyone? What middle class is there in Nigeria ...when private spending data from super-markets shows they got no money to spend...unless Oil goes back to 100 dollars.

Nairobi has the highest available retail space in malls across sub-Saharan Africa in a development that has kept rent in the high-end shopping centres stagnant over the past two years, a survey shows.

Knight Frank Africa in a report highlighting real estate trends in the continent says Nairobi retail space in malls stood at nearly 500,000 square metres, far ahead of other top cities like Kampala (170,000 sqm), Lagos (150,000 sqm), Addis Ababa (60,000 sqm), Dakar (170,000 sqm) and Kinshasa (170,000 sqm).
South Africa has about 23 million square metres of shopping centre floor space, compared with three million square metres in the rest of sub-Saharan Africa.

“Outside of South Africa, the Kenyan capital Nairobi has the greatest volume of modern retail floor space in sub-Saharan Africa, and it continues to be a development hotspot,” said the survey.

On this, your logic baffles me... I wonder how war-zone Nigeria produced the richest black man in the world

In Colombia malls are more common than in Argentina but the latter is richer and more developed. The UK has more malls than France or Germany but they are similarly developed... go figure

I don't understand how a person with middle class income is not classified as middle class just because his government(because of corruption) has refused to provide constant electricity for its citizens...
Moreover this middle class person because of his income can afford to buy generators to provide for the deficiency.

It's just like saying a rich man isn't rich because his government doesn't provide 24/7 electricity...

Having a high literacy rate is good, but not alone. It has to be accompanied by some other prevailing factors and you comprehend what Zim under Uncle has been through. You on the other hand have a very low literacy level, like Madagascar but then you have no valid external reason for being so illiterate

As said earlier, Northern Nigeria is the one that's largely illiterate, they're also the poorest

The graph below shows states of Nigeria... The Northern states are the ones with low literacy which is dragging the whole Nigeria down. Southern Nigeria has average literacy rate of 80-90%

Just look at a state with a low litercy level, and it's certain it's a northern state..

Why do you think the igbos(part of Southern Nigeria) want secession(there was even a civil war). Many have clamored for the separation of Northern and Southern Nigeria. Heck when Gadaffi visited Nigeria, He advised Nigeria to split along those lines.

Poverty is very rife in Northern Nigeria with some states at 90% poverty level.

Ultimately Nigeria will need Northern Nigeria to radically reduce their poverty and illiteracy levels as Nigeria plays a defining role on the continent and perhaps on the world stage in the next half of this century...

I'm very optimistic about Nigeria. If Nigeria can stick together and not separate plus if Nigeria improves its health, education, and infrastructure as well as industrializes, 30 years from now Nigeria will be a different place and will dominate Africa as it's destined to do.

Kenya will be a regional power for some time and perhaps might rival South Africa as well as the upcoming Ethiopia in the future.

I mean where does polio(a disease that's been wiped out in most parts of the world) exist in Nigeria?

BTW Katsina has a very, very low literacy rate...

Nigeria has to start spending alot in the North. It's a shame that a country like Nigeria has a literacy rate of around 56%(wherein Nigerians are among the most educated in the U.S.), age expectancy of 55, and still has polio...

That picture (2nd one) exemplified what I was talking about on the enugu thread before this useless parasite with different names came there to dispute my claims. Those houses were built with brick, not block and cement PLASTARD houses in nigeria. Look at the landscape, the pedestrian sidewalks, the trees planted at exact intervals, street with demarcated lanes, the lush green GRASSES that are planted at different locations instead of leaving the ground exposed. Something else I even talked about was shown on that picture, which is the manhole covers to indicate the water pipe infrastructure that are laid SMACK in the middle of their roads. That small round thing in the middle of that road, after the first packed car on the right and before the second parked car is that MANHOLE cover. So there were plans to relocate the UN base from Entebbe,Uganda to Nairobi.I just learnt that the UN has now cooled a bit after a protest letter from Museveni and condemnation of the UN by the Ugandan parliament. This was yet another UN steal for Kenya.

Ugandans and other member countries complaining of unfair distribution of UN entities should be asking themselves,Why Kenya?

Is there a Kenyan cartel in the UN that made the proposal? Or ,is Kenya more appealing to UN and it's staff ?

Nigeria has way higher soft power than Kenya, that's not even an argument. search it up online...

Just look at how our media sector dominates the continent.

It is not overhype.
98% of your exports is crude oil.
When oil prices plunged your economy went into a recession that you have never left and it seems will never leave so long as oil prices are below $80 a barrel.
Oil practically funds your budget. So it may form 20% of your GDP but the other 80% depends on that 20% to run.
Kenya and South Africa are credited to be some of the few nations which fund more than 90% of their budgets from TAXES.
Nigeria is nowhere there.

By the way Nigeria has exited recession and oil prices are around $80
