ifyalways: I read this story somewhere. Thought i should share. . .

A very humorous and revealing story is told about a group of white people who were fed up with African Americans, so they joined together and wish themselves away. They passed through a deep dark tunnel and emerged in sort of a twilight zone where there is an America without black people. At first these white people breathed a sigh of relief. At last, they say, no more crime, drugs, violence and welfare. All of the blacks have gone!! Then suddenly, reality sets in. The "NEW AMERICA" is not America at all only a barren land! There are very few crops that have flourished because the nation was built on a slave-supported system. There are no cities with tall skyscrapers because Alexander Mils, a black man, invented the Elevator, and without it one finds great difficulty reaching high floors. There are few if any cars because Richard Spikes, a black man, invented the Automatic Gear Shift. Joseph Gammell, also black, invented the Super Charge System for Internal Combustion Engines, and Garrett A. Morgan invented the Traffic Signals. Furthermore, one could not use the Rapid Transit System because its precursor was the electric trolley, which was invented by another black man by the name of Elbert R. Robinson. Even if there were streets on which cars and a rapid transit system could operate, they were cluttered with paper because an African American, Charles Brooks, invented the Street Sweeper. There were few if any newspapers, magazines and books because John Love invented the Pencil Sharpener, William Purvis invented the Fountain Pen, Lee Burridge invented the Type Writing Machine and W. A. Lovette invented the Advanced Printing Press. They were all, you guessed it, black. Even if Americans could write their letters, articles and books, they would not have been transported by mail because William Barry invented the Postmarking and Canceling Machine, William Purvis invented the Hand Stamp and Phillip Downing invented the Letter Drop. The lawns were brown and wilted because Joseph Smith invented the Lawn Sprinkler and John Burr the Lawn Mower. When they entered their homes, they found them to be poorly ventilated and poorly heated. You see, Frederick Jones invented the Air Conditioner and Alice Parker the Heating Furnace. Their homes were also dim. But of course, Lewis Latimer invented the Electric Lamp, Michael Harvey invented the Lantern and Granville T. Woods invented the Automatic Cut-off Switch. Their homes were also filthy because Thomas W. Steward invented the Mop and Lloyd P. Ray, the Dust Pan. Their children met them at the door barefooted, shabby, motley and unkempt. But what could one expect? Jan E. Matzelinger invented the Shoe Lasting Machine, Walter Sammons invented the Comb, Sarah Boone invented the Ironing Board and George T. Samon invented the Clothes Dryer. Finally, they were resigned to at least have dinner amidst all of this turmoil. But here again, the food had spoiled because another black man, John Standard, invented the refrigerator.
damn! Though long, this is too fuccking cool not to quote! cool

Amya: Republicans you say. If Obama coughs, they'll ask him to resign.

Why I said Nigerians are hypocrites is simply because we talk from both sides of our mouth. If stuffs like this should happen to someone we know, we are quick to rally on his defense, and if it's a person we don't know, we bring him down. If this guy were your dad or uncle or relative, we wouldn't be saying this same thing. We are hypocrites and sometimes are mostly swayed by the winning side. Let's be truthful to ourselves, yeah we had fun with this, but at the same time it could happen to anybody.
smh... and she talks about double standards. So what makes those republicans any less of hypocrites than the Nigerians on this thread asking the NSCDC man to resign? If Obama were republican, would they have asked him to resign?

If one does not want to be criticized at all, he should not exist at all. The meme thing did not begin with Nigeria, neither did it begin with the NSCDC man. Was Patience Jonathan not mocked too? What of Rita of koko mansion? Ever heard of the President-Bush-inspired 'Internets' meme? What makes Nigeria the hypocrite nation of the world?

I know it feels good trying to sound like the good person, but do not overdo it. What Nigerians are doing is totally normal and they would soon get tired of it, so give the self-righteousness a lil break.

Amya: There's time for everything bro. We all did enjoy a good joke at the expense of that guy. But where I draw the line is where people are screaming 'incompetence' and all what not because of a simple mistake anyone would make. Some people even want him fired!

How many of our parents are computer literate! My friend's mum who is a professor still calls a blackberry phone a 'blueberry' she can't understand the sematics of an email to save her life. Same with my mum and dad. They are from the school where newspaper, TV and radio are their all means of information. This man is probably from this school too, so we should all hold our horses.
nice... nice explanation. So where does the "Nigeria a nation of hypocrisy and hypocrites" expression you made fit in? Did you not hear/read of the republicans calling Obama to resign because of Beyonce's lipsync at his inauguration?

If you did hear, hope you called them a nation of hypocrites too, cos many have terrible voices and they do lipsync at times too in their sing-along private moments with their mirror.

Peeps expect alot from their leaders and care about the image they send to the outside world. Peeps would always talk even if they are worse off than the person in question, but defining a whole nation based on something peeps in other nations also do... that is what I have an ish with.

Amya: Okay we've all had our fun with this one. But he who says they've never had a brain fart before should cast the first stone. It had happened to me once, and I had to ask someone how to spell 'war'.

Anywayz, why am I wasting my breath sef, a nation of hypocrisy and hypocrites.
blah blah blah and some more blah... Wrong illustration. Why didn't you just presumptuously spell the 'war' as 'wore'? Asking shows you realized you didn't know it at that moment. If he had admitted he wasn't sure, it wouldn't have been this big a deal.

After you've had your fill of laughter, the other laughing peeps are now hypocrites and you the girl who does not throw the first stone. So what does the dictionary call this your action? huh

imperiouxx: Thank God he's getting support. That's all I want to hear because nothing is error free. Waiting to see when an activist or top lawyer stands by him, filing case for damages.
mtscheeew! Sue who? Channels? For making him fool himself or for watching him fool himself or for being there at all when he fooled himself? No sane lawyer would represent him in such a ridiculous case.

debayun: Looking at history nos 2 is actually right we r actually in our most peaceful era. I stand to b corrected
no mind am. Those days kingdoms and nations fought at the slightest provocation. Nations were colonised with the sword. Now we have Sovereign states monitored by the UN and we have Fundamental human rights, which makes our era more peaceful. Besides the world wars, that is.
