PoliticsRe: I’ll Fish Out Subsidy Thieves In A Week - Ribadu by OAM4J(op): 8:43pm On Jul 10, 2012
What has he been doing all these while?

where is the result of the job he and his committee were already asked to do?

He was given 60 days to complete the job, it's more than 120 days already yet no report.
PoliticsI’ll Fish Out Subsidy Thieves In A Week - Ribadu by OAM4J(op): 8:34pm On Jul 10, 2012
The former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, on Tuesday boasted that he will fish out the petroleum subsidy thieves within one week if given the task by the Federal Government.

He blamed the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency for all the atrocities perpetrated in the management of the fund, saying the agency released the funds and did not account for it.

He submitted that as an intelligent chief he would simply check their letters of credit and bill of landing to bring all those who benefited from the subsidy to justice.

Ribadu, who spoke at the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission in Abuja, said all the regulatory irregularities in Nigeria are due to “leadership failure.”

His words: “Look at the energy sector and see what we are talking about. Most of the problems we are talking about today are failure of regulation or regulators including the subsidy. If PPPRA had lived up to expectations we would not be having these problems. Nobody will take one penny from government if those agencies did not allow them.

“If I was to handle this subsidy I will just catch PPPRA. I will bring out each one of them and in one week I will get the people responsible because the gate keeper is the one in charge.

“I will just get them because nobody will make one penny from the subsidy unless PPPRA allows it. For every single person that benefited from subsidy I can assure you public officers gained three times,” Ribadu stated.

He added that the NERC Chairman, Dr. Sam Amadi, needs “courage” to carry out the reform in the power sector.

afam4eva: When you say ahead, what do you mean. Pls be explicit and stop talking like an illiterate. Which ome be "Ahead".
The same parameters that made you put Enugu ahead of Oshogbo, and many of us agreed, are the same parameters that put Lagos ahead of many other states including Enugu.
PoliticsRe: Lagos Mass Transit Model Good For Africa – US by OAM4J(op): 5:36pm On Jul 10, 2012
manny4life: Let me ask, how do they mean by "dedicated roads"? huh huh huh
Separate lanes/roads were built for BRT buses. Any other motorist that ply these roads/lanes will be arrested and fined. This mean by traveling with BRT buses you will avoid the heavy traffic associated with most Lagos roads. So a lot of car owners (not interested in "Me too get motor" mentality) will rather leave their cars at home and use BRT buses, thereby reducing the congestion on Lagos roads too.
PoliticsRe: Lagos Mass Transit Model Good For Africa – US by OAM4J(op): 5:04pm On Jul 10, 2012
afam4eva: Which one be dedicated road? They had a mass transit bus simple. I'm not expecting you to know because many people hardly know what's going on outside lagos. I won't blame Lagosians that hype Fashola because they've not had it so good. But they should know that some states have been enjoying relative goodwill before Fashola came on board in lagos.
Abeg go and siddon. Many states including Lagos state had mass transit buses decades ago. I grew up knowing LSTC buses in Lagos. What is special with BRT are not the mass transit buses but the dedicated roads and other infrastructures dedicated to the system. Read the article again.
PoliticsRe: Lagos Mass Transit Model Good For Africa – US by OAM4J(op): 4:57pm On Jul 10, 2012
afam4eva: I'm sure this your statement was produced out of ignorance. Now, i ask you. How many states in Nigeria have you visited in Nigeria? Do you know that Enugu state had a similar transport system as at the time Lagos launched theirs but you won't know because you don't travel round the country, so your statements will be laced with ignorance.
Really? I didn't know this too.

You mean Enugu had mass transit buses with dedicated roads before Lagos started thinking of BRT?
PoliticsRe: Lagos Mass Transit Model Good For Africa – US by OAM4J(op): 2:41pm On Jul 10, 2012
Kobojunkie: No, that is not what he is saying.

Take a lesson from Americans. Many of those who LOVE OBAMA, and already plan to vote him back in office in November, readily admit that he is doing good but there is still a whole lot of improvement needed, and a lot of misses too. And they can go at length with you on these. This is why I admire a lot of them.
Even the celebrities(I know we like to think that many of them are out of the touch when it comes to the concerns of the average man), they are educated on the issues enough to give you details on what Obama has done wrong, and what is he still doing wrong and where he needs to change but at the end of the day, they are still wearing there "Vote Obama" teeshirts. And this applies to the ordinary Americans out there too. They criticize even those they support, OPENLY too, and would readily jump boats if their choice decides to take them, or Americans, for granted. They are not puppets. They are intelligent beings who are do not have their tongues stuck to the arse of politicians.

These are the kind of people Nigeria needs. We don't need puppets for the Politicians or arse-lickers. We need real Nigerians, not afraid to criticize even when they choose to stand.
So he is right calling me a bigot? Unlike many here I do not condemn anything/everything that has GEJ on it, I openly here supported some of his decisions like the appointment of NOI and the current police IG. Neither do I give a blanket support or commendation to anything/everything Fashola. I am not an ACN supporter either. So I wonder where you get your brief of his advocacy from defending him with your post above.

So stay on my post that he commented on. It is not a rocket science that Fashola's 'laptop members' has little work to do compare to GEJ 'laptop members'. That does not in any way mean (if they exist) they will do no work or implies that am saying Fashola is perfect.

redsun: How on earth can a bigoted minded person like u become a moderator in a suppose impatial and progressive forum? No wonder this place has turn to miniature nigeria,a place where intolerance and primitive tribal sentiment thrive over reasoning and collective progress.
Sometimes you guys just throw any word that comes to your brain without thinking. What is the meaning of bigotry? What is bigotry about my post? Who am I suppose to be neutral to as a NL moderator? Fashola & GEJ? Where did you get the impression that moderators are not entitled to their opinions on public matters?

I am a stakeholder in the Project Lagos and Nigeria. I am from Lagos and a Nigerian, and I am damm entitled to express my opinion on how these projects are being managed. I have every right to commend or condemn wherever and whenever I so feel like and it has nothing to do with my job as a moderator here.
PoliticsRe: Lagos Mass Transit Model Good For Africa – US by OAM4J(op): 5:57am On Jul 10, 2012
I wont mind to be one of Fashola's 'laptop members', it will be the easiest job for me to do compare to selling GEJ. A good product need no hard sale.

PoliticsMan Remanded For Stealing Aregbesola's Phone by OAM4J(op): 4:05am On Jul 10, 2012
For allegedly stealing a phone belonging to Rauf Aregbesola, the governor of Osun State, an Osogbo Senior Magistrates' Court on Monday ordered that a 32 year old man, Kelvin Ighodalo, be remanded in prison.

The Osun Government had arraigned the suspect on a six-count charge of conspiracy, fraud, stealing and impersonation.

The charge sheet, signed by a Principal State Counsel, Biodun Badeora, for the Attorney-General, stated that the accused, and others at large, committed the offence between November 2010 and June 2011 in Osogbo.

It also stated that the accused Mr. Ighodalo conspired with some people at Technical College Sports field on November 27and stole a Sony Erickson telephone handset with GSM number 08039404966 from the state governor.

The charge sheet said the suspect falsely represented himself as Mr. Aregbesola and used the telephone number on June 3 to defraud the Ijesha Monarch, Adekunle Aromolaran, of N500,000.

It further claimed that the suspect used the number on May 24, 2011, to defraud one Shenge Rahman of N200,000.

A Legal Officer, Michael Ubi, said that all the alleged offences contravened sections 8 (c), 1 (1) (c) and punishable under section 1 (3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and other Related Offences Act 2006.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to all the charges and his counsel, Remnus Ugwu, made an oral application for his bail.

But the oral bail application was rejected by the Senior Magistrate, Olusola Aluko.

Mr. Aluko directed the counsel to file a written bail application before the court for consideration and ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody till July 31.

Lagos mass transit model good for Africa – US

Lagos State government public transportation policy has attracted the attention and admiration of the American government as the United States Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood describes it as “the first bus system in sub-Saharan Africa that allows passengers to avoid traffic congestion,” Empowered Newswire reports.

Speaking at the just concluded African Growth Opportunity Act, AGOA conference in Washington DC, which ended over the weekend, the US Secretary recommended partnerships between governments and private companies to build large-scale transportation projects in Africa.

According to LaHood, “the rapid bus system in Lagos, Nigeria,” is the first bus system in sub-Saharan Africa that allows passengers to avoid traffic congestion.

He told delegates drawn from across the continent attending the yearly AGOA conference that the Lagos State government financed the infrastructure costs, such as road construction, while the private sector financed the buses, bus depots and maintenance facilities.

In addition, LaHood noted that “the project created 2,000 direct jobs and moved more than 170 million people in its first three years of operation and called it a model for other African countries.

“Successes such as these set an example of how you build a 21st-century transportation network at home,” LaHood said.

He said the United States had the same goals as African countries: “grow our economies and expand trade.”

But he said, “Governments can only do so much. We also need strong commercial partners to collaborate with us on major projects.”

htajz: .
but Rice estimates that two thirds of the population are slum dwellers.. There nothing impressive about 2/3 of Lagos population living in slums and one man pocketing ten percent of the tax you all pay.
If you have ever gone round Lagos, can you honestly claim that 2/3 of Lagos residential areas are slums? not even 1/10th of Lagos can be regarded as slum.

We can excuse that error because Rice has not gone round Lagos himself.

kinkyshoe: Mr. moderator, i started a thread on sunday, 8th julythe state of emergency declared in some local governments in Plateau state, however, the thread was closed on monday, 9th july, 2012. i reali would like to know why. thanks
I guess you are referring to this thread: https://www.nairaland.com/985065/state-emergency-declared-four-local

The thread was locked because the content and the title were misleading and it has no verifiable source, so I locked it and linked it to the one that was accurately reported with a verifiable source.

What was declared was a curfew and not a state of emergency.
