Jarus: I initially had serious issues with the new site but now I'm ok with itm it's actually better than the old site.

However like people have mentioned up there, the 'exact date and time' post reference needs to be brought back, this '1 year and 2 months ago' thing is not ok.

Also, signatures add fun to the posts.
Check my comment here:

OAM4J: If you put your mouse pointer on the thread title on a particular post, it will give you the date and time of the post in the old format

Also if you put your mouse pointer on the poster's name it will give you the post count and the location of the poster.

Now you have to check the poster profile to know if online or not.

Seun will address the other issues you raised and the ones you are still bringing cheesy

This is one of the issues we should be addressing and not who is greater between Awolowo or Ojukwu.

Our current leaders are robbing us blind and careless what we face as a Nation for as long as their pockets keep swelling.

This should not continue. angry

Can you or anyone post the picture for us to see?
Nairaland GeneralRe: The New Nairaland Is Such A Bad Experiment by OAM4J:
denzel2009: Thats not the only thing;

time of post need to come back(not the hopeless 1 year 2 months)
the post count, usename online status and location needs to be left aligned- we will be able to identify new posters and mods by this.
the message box needs to be rectangle not this one like ikebe super comments
there should be space for signatures.
I should be able mark posts as read, I don't have to read all updated posts
the number of pages should be at a corner of the pages discarding the zero start(unprofessional imho)
there should be a box at the end of every page to reply comments not that stupid reply button.

When I think of more I will let you know.

House okays N38.8bn jumbo allowance for members

•Each Rep now on N27m per quarter

The quarterly allowance of members of the House of Representatives has hit the N27million mark.
It used to be N15million per Representative

This translates to an 80% increase and an additional N9.720billion strain on public purse every quarter or N38.88billion per year.

The House leadership had been under severe pressure from members to review the allowance meant for running their oversight functions.

The leadership was said to have succumbed to the pressure with a view to insulating members from temptation from the Ministries, Departments and Agencies(MDAs) in the course of performing their oversight functions.

The quarterly allowance is just one of the several enjoyed by the Reps and Senators.
Other benefits and allowances, as approved by the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) are salaries, vehicle maintenance and fuelling, Personal Assistant, house maintenance, entertainment, utilities, constituency allowance, hardship allowance, vehicle loan, duty tour and estacode (where applicable).

Only last year, the House requested Camry cars for the oversight functions of its 360 members costing a total of N2.5billion.
The increase in the quarterly allowance of the Reps is bound to raise questions following the recent decision by President Goodluck Jonathan to cut the emolument of public officers.
It was gathered that the Reps launched their bid for the secret increase in the aftermath of the belt tightening measures put in place by the Speaker of the House Aminu Tambuwal.

At an executive session last month the Reps had queried why their predecessors in the sixth National Assembly earned N42 million per quarter as against the N15million they were receiving.
Some of them were also alleged to have asked the Speaker why Senators are on about N45 million quarterly allowance.

They said they could not understand what was described as “the yawning gap” between House quarterly allowance and Senate’s.
A reliable source said: “Members actually wanted a reversion to the old rate of N42 million per quarter but Tambuwal rejected the move in view of the financial challenges facing the House.

“The Speaker also claimed that the leadership would prefer a low rate allowance in line with its ongoing reforms.

“After a stormy session, the House leadership sensed that a revolt was in the offing and it had to go back to the drawing board.
“After consultations, Tambuwal announced an increase of N12million in the quarterly allowance of members. So, they will now earn N27million per quarter.

“If Tambuwal had not increased the quarterly allowance, I doubt if he would still be in office by now.
“Also, the House leadership decided to bow to members’ demand to insulate them from being influenced by MDAs during oversight functions. We do not want members to function at the mercy of MDAs, we felt we should avoid recourse to bribery.

It was however gathered that the increase was effected secretly to avoid backlash from the public.
“We did not make noise about the increase because of perception. Our quarterly allowance is short of what the Sixth House of Representatives got but before you know it, we will be the butt of attack.

“Nigerians do not pay attention to the allowances of the Executive and the Judiciary. Out of the N4.8billion budget passed on Thursday, the National Assembly’s share is about N150 to N200billion. What fraction of the budget is that? Yet, we are always the sacrificial lambs,” the source added.

Investigation showed that the payment of the additional N12million quarterly allowance was effected last week by the House leadership.
A member of the House said: “Yes, we have started receiving the increase, it is left to us to use it judiciously because we have a busy calendar.”
It could not be ascertained at press time whether the House leadership put the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) into confidence on the increase in the allowances.

Not exactly the same, some background similarities but entirely different focus. This speech is more about the impact of realist story books, but the speech she gave at TED was about the danger of a single story, dealing with stereotypes.

naijaking1: How does openly tribal bashing threads make it to the front page if the moderator is not so compromised?
Why is it easy to allow the few tribal zealots to drown out the voice of the majority? (I know the zealots are a minority because in reality Nigerians, whether Igbos, Yorubas, Hausa, etc largely tolorate each others, not here on N/L)
1. How many times am I going to explain to people that moderators do not post threads on home page? Only Admin and Super-Mod do.

2. How did we allow few to drown out the voice of majority? Do we moderators have such powers? I think you are overestimating us.

3. Yes I will be the 1st to agree with you that in real life, many of the ethnics group do not hate themselves. I have many close Igbo friends, was the best man to one not too long ago, my pastor in Nigeria is an Igbo man. So you will never find me in or supporting ethnic bashing threads.

Kobojunkie: That one na lie. You moderators barely filtered this place a week, before you decided to allow the tribal slurs back in. Same goes for the insults. Heck, I had to start taking matters into my own hands after realizing that Nairaland didn't really care as much as it claimed.

I still do not, for the life of me understand how you moderators can decide that it is OK to allow this stu_pidity continue in a board where it does not even follow. What is political about all that trash? NOTHING, yet you continue to allow it remain in the politics board, why? No rational reason, not even the one you attempt above with the claim that it helps ratings. I mean tribalism can as well have it's own main board out there to garner all the ratings you need it to for you, but keep it away from politics, at least.

When a known tribalist like that one there continue to tell you that you are not doing a good job filtering out tribal posts, I say you may want to thing a bit seriously of what is being said.
hmnnnn, I think you are right. I will seek the permission of the site owner to review the policy.
PoliticsRe: Blame Me Also For Failed Hostage Rescue – Jonathan by OAM4J(op): 3:55am On Mar 17, 2012
naijaking1: You know what they say, by their fruit we shall know them. It's true, you may actually think that you're doing such a marvelous job as a moderator, but a cursory look at this section will reveal an escalated incidents of tribal bigotry since you assumed office. Not that i blame you directly, but your passive aggressive take on tribal issues makes everything worse.
You just can't be the referee and the captain of the opposing team at the same time. I can imagine that's why moderating a political section wouldn't be easy. It's not a job for everybody.
True there is an increase of 'tribal' threads, but like I said don't blame the mods or Seun, blame the people. When I became the mod, if you were around you would have noticed we actually halted the growing 'tribalsm' trend, but shortly after that the section became 'too quiet' cos many posters were not so interested in discussing other non tribal topics which is bad for a forum, so came a policy change to allow people discuss what they want to discuss. Now if you people like screaming the same thing over and over again in hundreds of threads, be our guests, just don't break the rules while at it.

No, I am not a captain, nor a player, not even a spectator. Prove me wrong if you have contrary facts.

PoliticsRe: Blame Me Also For Failed Hostage Rescue – Jonathan by OAM4J(op): 12:58am On Mar 17, 2012
naijaking1: Yes, myopic, because you couldn't free yourself from primitive ethno-regional bias. The first step towards correcting many of the chronic ills of our nation is for some controlling agency to at least take responsibility/blame for it. I know you may not understand, but until an official wakes up in the morning to apologize to Nigerians for the power failure of the previous night, we're certainly going nowhere. Instead of Nigerians to accept blames, they form a circular firing squad and shift the buck around, with the result that at the end of the day, nothing changes, nothing improves, and nobody learns anything.
You certainly have a right to voice your own personal opinion, but you have no right to convert this forum into an all out Yoruba promoting platform. Over my 6-7 years affiliation with N/L, I have seen moderators come and go, but you my friend is one of the most rabid anti-non-yoruba moderators ever to walk the earth.
The result is that the quality of discussion(intellectual)in the forum has continued to decrease as the Dayokanus, Bluethoots, Eko-Iles, oduasoljas of this forum have increased. As a result of this, reactionary ethnic promotions and bias has become the order of the day for other tribes in Nigeria, especially Igbo contributors. Also, you seem to confuse yourself as an ACN operative vs N/L moderator.

Finally, why do you think it's more important to make GEJ resign than to ask the opposing muslim Boko Haram operatives to give peace a chance. You have never hidden your disdain for anything and anybody who is not your own tribal stock, and that's a big shame. So, if GEJ resigns, then you'll rather have Tinubu or Aregbasola as presidenthuh?
1. I have a problem debating with people who join issues. If you have a problem with my moderating duties/actions you should have addressed it separately rather than joining it with my post on this topic. There is a complaint thread where you can present your allegation of my bias with facts.

2. I am the last person to be drawn into tribal debates, or have you ever found me join in the debate of which ethnic is better or worse, even before I become a moderator? I am a progressive, I do not care about the ethnicity of whosoever is in government, if he does well he gets my praise and if he doesn't he get my condemnation even if he is a member of my family. When GEJ does a good thing he gets my praise when he is unable to address what he should he gets my condemnation. Like I supported his appointment of the current Police IG, even when many were condemning it, because I briefly witnessed the IG performance while he was the Commissioner of Police in Lagos. Is M.D Abubarka from my ethnic group?

3. I am not a member of any party. I am for the right candidate and not for a party. During the last election I supported Buhari for president, Fashola for Lagos state, Ameachi for Rivers and Chime for Enugu(You can check my post history if you have the time). How does that make me a confused ACN operative or have disdain for anything not my own?

4.You my friend has just shown you are biased, you listed posters only from one side of the coin and failed to list the other posters from the other side as if they are the only ones guilty of tribalism. Well for your information the people you listed including others have bee banned many times this year. I do not check for people's ethnicity before recommending them for a ban when they break the rules.

5. There will always be ethnocentric threads for as long as you people enjoy creating and discussing them. I have no power to stop that. I am tired of reading them cos you people kept saying the same thing I have read from the very 1st month I joined NL. So don't blame the moderators for what you guys enjoy doing. Many of these threads wouldn't have existed or seen the light of the day if you guys don't create them or if you ignore them. You kept telling Seun and the moderators to stop tribalism while in you actions you prove it is what you love doing. How many serious/'intellectual' threads do you people seriously debate on like you do on 'tribal' threads? You don't need Seun or the moderators to stop tribalism. If you don't like it stop it or ignore the threads.

6. Yes GEJ should resign if he is not competent and able to address the situation. I do not care who takes over from him whether his name is Emeka or Sule or Bonyface or Seun as long as he is competent. Unlike you I do not support people because they are from my region or ethnic. I support people I believe are competent and honest. For instance, I will campaign for Chime, Ameachi, Duke, Akpabio and campaign against the likes of Gbenga Daniel and Akala.
