chukwudi44:whose duty is it to make that pronouncement? PDP or Jonathan or IG or the Court? |
chukwudi44:Politics is a game of number. There might also be PDP members who still prefer Tambuwal as their speaker. Afterall some PDP members with the support of opposition elected him speaker against the wishes of the party (PDP). If Jonathan and PDP feel otherwise, let them test their number on the floor of the house and not use self-help because they command the security forces. |
chukwudi44:I expect a court pronouncement asking for maintenance the status quo in matters of days, if Jonathan/IG will honor that is left to be seen. OBJ tried this against Atiku and he failed. |
We might soon have two houses of representatives, except that this will be too damming compare to having 2 Governors' forum. Anyways, I hope the judiciary will salvage the situation before things degenerate and get out of control. |
"...I think there is something the First Lady is using as a secret weapon against the President that we don’t know. No President has allowed his wife to be this power drunk. What is happening is not normal.”hmnnnnnn.... |
maclatunji:I dont think apologetic is the right word. I wish there is a younger more versatile Buhari, but in the absence of that, I still prefer this Buhari by faaaaarrrrrrrr to Mr Stealing-is-not corruption, even if Buhari were to be 80 and above. |
This week I remember where I have fallen... One good Gameweek and I moved back to where I have fallen in top 20 from the past 3 weeks of free fallen to page 2. Thank you Iku Aguero, Thank you Costa for your timely injury, thank you Ikupayi Boyd for coming from the bench and giving me a good differential. About time Librans FC sack their manager... ![]() Moving on.... |
Ngwakwe:Can you please give us links to the bold above? I mean links to petrol subsidy scam, pension scam, employment scam, non-remitted missing fund, armored car purchased scam, illegally transported money perpetrated by Buhari's subordinates and the likes... waiting, Google has not been my friend on those. Thanks. On topic...very interesting! I wont be surprised if the result change overnight though. |
naijababe:Iyalode, another thing I like about Buhari is his ability to identify capable hands and delegate powers to them without competing for limelight with them. From the coup that brought him to power, he requested the people behind the coup to allow him choose his deputy outside the team when they asked him to lead them after Bako was killed, and Buhari chose Idiagbon. Also he found capable hands like late Dora Akinyuli while heading PTF to get the job done. I expect he will do that again if he is voted to power... honestly with the likes of Fashola in his cabinet running the show, it will matter less to me if he has to spend a week every month to rest due to old age. |
bnovative:I cant respond to hearsay. Where are the facts and records to support your claim? I saw the impact of PTF in d south west, IMO, PTF is the best thing Abacha did right and thanks to Buhari. |
donroxy:May be its better maybe not for now, we can never say for sure until those candidates are tested with the electorates. Buhari won the core North votes against GEJ in 2011. Many in the South bought the 'no shoe' story and felt Jonathan can easily identify with them until they found out he spends a billion Naira for feeding. I want to believe many are wiser now. BTW, APC I think is better organised and have a wider spread compare to CPC under wish Buhari contested in 2011. |
donroxy:I agree with some of your views even though am not sure Kwankaso or Wamakko can pull the numbers Buhari can pull especially in the North. My Uncle lives in Kaduna and he told me there is no politician with half of Buhari's influence especially in the core Norths. They just trust the man rightly or wrongly. The common saying in the North is that "All that Buhari needs to give me is his word and I can take it to the bank". But the point is, in the event that Buhari gets the APC ticket ahead of Kwankaso or Wamakko, should we not support him knowing that failure not to do so means continuation of 'stealing is not corruption'? |
Sincere9gerian:Lets be civil as much as we can. We can have an healthy debate without throwing insults. We all want a better Nigeria, so we can agree to disagree on the means. Pls edit your post and remove the word rats. Thanks. |
IbnJumah:I dont think Debosky supports Jonathan, he only wish for somebody better/younger than Buhari. |
anonimi:My grouse with Jonathan has never been with his oratory gift or lack of it. You might need to read the reasons why I think he should not be re-elected in the link I provided. |
naijababe:Buhari does get his idea across, albeit not brilliantly like Fashola does. Those who understand Hausa language claim he is more articulate and fluent when expressing himself in Hausa language. |
naijababe:I have met many brilliant 1st class materials who cannot brilliantly express themselves in English but very good at what they do. |
brownlord:I NEVER made that assertion sir. I know much better than insinuate that. Please read what you quoted again. |
naijababe:We all know that Buhari is never an orator or an articulate person. But those qualities good as they are, are not the only criteria for dettermining a good leader |
waternogetenemy:You want to talk about Nigerian politics without the realities of ethnic sentiments in 2015? As much as I wish, this country is not yet United States of Nigerians |
naijababe:Iyalode, the point here is facing reality. El-Rufai is not contesting as President, rather he has chosen to become the Governor of Kaduna State. Ribadu is out of the equation, the reality on the ground is that the election is going to be between PDP and APC, most likely Jonathan and Buhari. So will you pick Jonathan over Buhari if you must choose? Do you think Buhari is more clueless than Jonathan? |
@Gbawe I agree with you. I just cant imagine another 4 years of Jonathan as president and I doubt he will change for the better. |
debosky:While I also prefer a younger person, I dont think he should be dismissed base on age alone. If he is a good leader that I think he is, he can assemble young viral cabinet members that will reduce the effect of weakness that can be brought about by his age on governance. True, I agree Buhari is not the ideal or the best candidate, but should the 2015 election be between him and Jonathan, do you think Jonathan is a better choice over Buhari? |
Some months ago, I wrote a piece on why I think Jonathan should not be re-elected in 2015 and I did promise when asked on the thread to let the people know my opinion on Buhari’s 2015 presidential ambition. I think the time is right to talk about this since the general has formally declared to run. Unfortunately, my thread on Jonathan went with the data challenge that affected Nairaland. But for those who didn’t read it and are interested in reading it, you can find it here: http://oam4j..com/2014/04/why-jonathan-should-not-be-re-elected.html Let me digress a bit and talk about my preferred candidates… If God calls on me today and tells me he is going to let me singlehandedly decide who should be the next president of Nigeria, then come May 2015 Madam “Due Process” Oby Ezekwesili will be sworn in as the next president. This is one person I believe understands the challenges of Nigeria and knows what must be done to move Nigeria on the path of greatness. Madam Oby is one courageous woman who I believe will without fear of favour pilot the affair of this nation like a true mother to greatness. Till date the government of the day is yet to take up her challenge for an open debate. I was also not surprised with her frank and sincere speech when APC invited her to their meeting. But I doubt the political parties of the day will field someone like her. I also don’t see the likes of Dangote, Otedola etc putting their money in her campaign. But should this woman decide to contest for the highest office one way or the other, she has my support and vote, even if am sure she will not win. My second preferred candidate is Babatunde Raji Fashola: In 2007 I was rooting for Funsho Williams as the next governor of my state - Lagos, then Funsho Williams was killed and I shifted my support for Jimi Agbaje. I disliked the way Tinubu came up with Fashola because at the back of my mind I felt he was trying to push his “boy-boy” on us, and I felt bad when he won but hoped for the best. But 2 years down the lane I came to Nigeria again and I saw a new and better Lagos. I breathe True Fresh-Air at Oshodi and drove on tarred road to my house unlike before. Everywhere I went I saw Fashola’s government working. And I said ‘thank God Fashola won’. Needless to say I supported his re-election in 2011. With Fashola as the president of this country, I see our power problem finally solved and massive construction everywhere and Nigeria joining the league of developed Nations. But in 2015, I doubt majority from the North will support any southern presidential candidate because they still feel cheated with the death of Yar’Adua. And all the likes of Peter Obi need to do is campaigned that Fashola ‘deported’ thousands of Ndigbos from Lagos and Fashola is Awolowo’s pikin... your guess is as good as mine on possible outcomes. Even if Fashola does not become a president in 2015 I hope for the sake of the nation’s progress he is made the Power or Works’ Minister should the opposition win. Now back to Buhari, in 2011, I supported and campaigned for this general and truly believed he could make a difference if elected, but it didn’t come to be. So I expected Buhari to follow through his promise of not contesting again. What I had hoped for was Buhari becoming a model to young, bright, fairly honest and courageous people to take over from him, giving them all the moral supports they need to succeed. But that didn’t happen. The question therefore is: If I have to pick between Jonathan and Buhari who will I support? While I would have preferred a more articulate and younger Buhari, I will certainly not choose or support a man that think stealing is not corruption... definitely not Jonathan. My views about him from my write up have not changed. So I will pick Buhari over Jonathan by miles. Buhari's records as Petroleum Minister, head of state and chairman of PTF speak volume. I don’t place Buhari in the same intellectual capacity with Oby and Fashola, but what Buhari lacks in this department he has more in integrity, courage and ability to identify capable hands and use them. If we must face reality, as things stands in the opposition now, Buhari has more chances to send Mr I-had-no-shoe back to Otueke with million pairs of shoes to last him three lifetimes than any other opposition candidate. “…if we are unhappy with what we have, the logical thing to do is to attempt to change it with our votes and to change the next one too if we do not find what we want until we find what we all want. That is when the people would truly have attained power” – Babatunde Fashola Let me end on a light note with something I observed here on Nairaland and other social media; anytime Buhari’s name is mentioned I see PDP supporters and Jonathanians suddenly become special consultants/advisers for the oppositions on how to choose the best presidential candidate. They will suggest 'better' candidates, analyse how Buhari is unelectable and how Buhari’s candidacy means easy passage for Jonathan. But IMO, I think they are afraid of Buhari. If they are sure Buhari is a walk-over for Jonathan, they will be encouraging the opposition to field him rather than advising them to choose another. Thanks for reading. For me, these elections must not be so much about what the opposition brings as some people have argued.Very True! |

Marotzke:If they also have American passports, then they are also American citizens and have the right to travel back to their home in America since America has refused to do the right thing for them. But banning all West Africans from travelling because some Liberians are transporting the disease doesn't sound right to me. Banning all flights from countries affected and citizens carrying passports of those countries makes more sense to me. |
