Cuddlemii: @op
Please where do I sign up for this section? I am very much interested. What does it entail asides boldness? I am serious O!
Can you give me a tour around your section and a mini orientation or information section. Good! send me your YIM id, facebook id and telephone numbers . . . kidding Seriously you are welcome to post your opinion on any thread here, if anyone challenges your opinion nicely, you can engage him/her in a debate, but if he or she insults/bullies you, simply ignore him/her and report the post using the report to moderator button or on the complaint thread of this board. And I can assure you that the person will get another one of my stupid private messages that wastes peoples' valuable time, and if repeated will get a 'nice message' from the admin or the supermod. I look forward to reading your posts on this section. |

jay bee: Ok here is another handle to look at it, It certainly ain't only the females that aren't bothered about the political section as i know quite a few goons that would rather stay on the sideline whilst observing from afar for various reasons i.e. What's the point in engaging people when most political section posts either have tribalism undertone or just regurgitated arguments with no end insight?
Why engage people whose number one aim is to cause trouble or better still relive their frustrated lives on the WWW?
Could it be that under shoiwng their political savvinness isn't classed as being productive in their respective dictionaries. Afterall most have the hardest job in town. Combining 9-5 jobs with added responsiblity of being a wife and mother in most cases ain't for the faint hearted
Above all, why bother engage, salivate, waste precious time about affairs of a country that's in the hand of the devil and ain't changing anytime soon?
Arguing over Nigerian politics is absolute waste of time and i believe there are other sections on NL where more intelligent discussions are being heard on a daily basis eg Family section I get your points. But rather than ignoring the threads totally, you can make your point and ignore the trolls. Any discerning mind reading can always separate the shafts from the wheat. dayokanu: Its only natural and it happens everywhere in the world. Most women dont like Politics.
You want to test it Give your mom, sister, gf or wife a TV remote control and you would never see her watching CNN or any other Political news channel guess where she would be on?
MTV, Fashion TV or some reality shows.
While most guys would watch News, Movies and maybe Sports
But on NL some women are holding it down e.g Ileke-idi, Desola etc I want more of them jare plus including the pretty cool 'odunnus' |

y me: Just to add to it not wanting to contribute to a section one has low interest for and coupled with the fact that most political topics are turned into War Zone thread does not make it tough Tough in my definition is putting together constructive facts or reason for another person with different opinion to thrash out in a modest and sensible form but unlike here ones opinion is ruled out with insults. Not every one has time for that diminishing act I get your point, makes lot of sense. But is this peculiar only to Politics section debates? I thought such insulting habit from posters exists in most high traffic prone sections. |

manny4life: TRUE, The politic section is a SERIOUS WAR ZONE, at times I just get on to make a comment but seriously get discouraged after hearing statements from most people. I think women are more calm when it comes to politics and not everyone has the headache; like someone said, politics is NOT being discussed here, what I see is constant bickering and internet yelling and shouting. On a few occasions, I've been caught up in the midst of the shenanigans, but on the most part, I try to avoid all the rubbish. Manny, it takes 2 to fight/war. All I do is to express my POV to any topic I found interesting, if someone disagree nicely I respond but if he/she uses gutter words I simply ignore. You can never win a fight with a pig in the mud. |

damilola15: From another angle, "Why do men treat condescendingly, women's opinion when it comes to politics?" Do guys really do that? I think majority of them are more tolerant to ladies POV than they do to other guys. y me: Because the politic section is a WAR ZONE hence I deviate from it coupled with the fact that I'm not much of a political person In other words, you and many females like you are not tough enough to withstand the heat? Odunnu: ID yourself sharparly sharparly. Are you a foe or friend? Dont tell me you cant identify her logo, she is the one and only Militia aka Almondjoy aka Blazay who will soon become my girlfriend |

Are you talking about d same Nigeria where parts of d country is ruled under sharia? place where some of the same sentiments about gender roles is shared across the country? speak loud and clear? stand up and fight?
well, if women had d power to do so, they would. but for now they don't. let's wait and see. As more and more join d work force and gain economic freedom, things most likely will start to change.
i'm not saying this is for good or bad. but at least in d direction you seem to want it to go.
You have a point about areas under sharia, but why haven't we seen many women participation in politics in areas not under sharia? And this forum is not under sharia laws, why don't we have many ladies participating in political discussions here like they do with romance discussions? |

gestapo: The only post on this thread that makes sense so far
Simply put, Nigerian men in this section feels threatened and their heckles get raised quickly when they sense anyone from the female of the species who comes across as formidable. They are onto her like sharks to blood, SMH, even me sef wey wahala like me small bow the first time I mistakenly wandered into this section with the level of viciousness displayed towards my always gentle self, infact I am still traumatised till date Stop lying jor who can traumatise someone like you on NL. Beaf: Exactly, it is all about how the place is moderated. There is rampant ethnic bigotry, in fact it is encouraged. The mods are biased, in fact I believe some of the main offenders are mods logged in with different id's. Crazy things happen here. I remember getting a 5 day ban for linking to a picture of politicians that is on at least 10 threads and was uploaded by someone else; how does anyone think women would be attracted to such a dog eat dog place where IQ drops daily?
. . .But sis, you for no yab me na. The thread is not about you but about women's participation in politics and political discussions and you are equally guilty of many of the things they complain about. So let's talk about ladies participation in politics and political discussions abeg |

Rofl C'mon Ify, its not that bad at least of recent. Most of the stories here are stories from Nigeria news site and on current happenings/realities in Nigeria. People like you only need to get into the debates/discussions and put more light, and you can avoid the meaningless/ignorant threads and posts. |
Women will participate more in politics if there is a safe space for them to do so. but the truth is that men DO NOT want women involved in d first place and do their best to keep females out. Women also know that they are not wanted in politics.
If not for UN gender equality mandates, do you even think there will be as many female politicians in Nigeria at all? I don't think so.
in my opinion though, women do discuss politics among themselves. at least the parts of politics that have meaning and relevance to their lives. although they do not make it into a hobby like some men do. We have more relevant things to do with our time.
I'm speaking for naija because the reality is different for places like the US where there is pretty decent female participation. esp when many of the debate topics have relevance to females ex abortion being the most obvious example. in naija on the other hand it won't even be a question before a legislator places a ban on females "wearing skirts" (not that any woman in her right mind will obey such) That's messed up. The whole country might as well be a sharia state.
In politics nobody gives anybody space to talk or to contest election be it a woman or a man, its everyone's right. You have to speak loud and clear if you have something better to offer.
As long as there is no law that forbids women to participate in politics, then women have to stand up and fight for their space.
Politics is by number and there are usually more women than men. You don't need anyone (any man) to give you your God given right to speak and participate in politics. |

Beaf: What she does is really down to her, I can't answer that question. All I'm here for is to show my disgust at the falsification of news by desperate Nigerians, even half way across the Globe.
All hail 9ja! They can turn oyibo bad!
https://www.ithappensinindia.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/bribe.jpg 1st it was Saharareporters falsifying stories, after you were told the story is real and true from Heute, then u switched to Heute not doing a good job and attempted to discredit the media because it is a free Newspaper. The question is; What does Heute Newspaper stand to gain giving a false story about Allison Madueke? Or is Heute an extension of Saharareporters? And are you really saying the media was bribed to publish the story? |

Endless, senseless and meaningless arguments aimed at massaging dead egos and general online nuisance?with ofcourse, the resident female fly perching @ every piece of shyte in sight.
Long gone are the days when this section smelt anything politics. . .and im just being nice with words.
Greater percenatage of posters in this section are real life loners and depressed arzes coming on here to scream themselves hoarse, take them pills and hit the sacks. My opionion. Thank yous. Political discussion is about expressing opinions on political issues however silly or faulty the opinions may be, then different opinions are debated and we don't need to agree on any opinion but in the course of the debate everyone learn something. Since you have a better, more refined, more meaningful and more sensible argument, you should have expressed them and let the boys be educated by you. Or did anyone stopped you from doing so? |

REASON:NOT EVERY WOMAN IS INTERESTED IN BEING A CYBER-HO ON YOUR TERMS!
There! So in your opinion its because they got banned by moderators? Out there lies political witch-hunting, blackmails, harassment etc yet the tough ones got to be heard and win political offices. Are you saying women are not that tough? BTW, since I became a mod only one female has been banned from this section to the best of my knowledge and she was not banned for more than 24hrs. Also what gave you the impression am based in Nigeria? Is it written on my location or what? |

Why Do Ladies Shy Away From Politics & Political Discussions?
I noticed very few females actually participate in political discussions. We can count those of them who are active in this section on our fingertips. Why?
- Is it for lack of interest or should their interest be more on looking after their kitchen, kids and family? - Are they afraid of taking up men in political debates? - How are we going to have many women taking up political/leadership positions if many of them shy away from politics and political discussions? - Or is it just enough that they be given a percentage of political appointments? - And how can we encourage many females to participate in politics/political discussion?
Let's discuss this. |
