ifyalways: @oAM4J,I deliberately kept my distance from this thread today cos Nigerians have a way of making an 1diot out of a sane person. Yesterday,I sent my driver to the Obuh's,he called me from there,I spoke to Mr Obuh and he confirmed the accomodation story and their possibly relocation to Ayobo today to me. This morning,I sent him again to see if they've moved and possibly drive them down(and know the place as me and Olowetee intends visiting on Sunday) and guess what?He met there still @ under bridge and with a new song. Mr Obuh(I spoke with him on phone) said the good samaritan took them to a room and parlour ensuite kitchenette and washroom at AYobo and wanted to pay a year rent for them but he(Monday Obuh) declined the offer cos he felt he wont be able to maintain the house on expiry.
ps:I'm mobile Thank you Ifyalways. What do you reckon we do with him at the stage with this new development? I ask because you have met him, listened to him and can assess him better. |

Well well well. Lets keep our effort going in the meantime. Lets plead with Ifyalways to confirm the story from him. If confirmed to be true, I will say we keep the funds together till we have another worthy case of genuine need. |

Am happy for the new development. The most important thing is that the family is taken care off irrespective of the people who took care of them.
May God bless all of u who have it in mind to help.
Well I will suggest we keep a structure such that when a genuine case arise again we would be able to rise to the occasion on time.
I think we should now shift focus on the Nairaland Charity thread and see how we can develop good structure that will be able to respond promptly to genuine need |

In a country where there is decency many of them would be sacked, but I won't be surprised the same incompetent people will be given higher responsibilities tomorrow.
Yeye people, planning to give the same honour Allele Williams received 10yrs ago to her again. Wont be surprised millions were spent to organise this show of shame.
If they can't organise a simple National Award well, how can they organise the affairs of the country well?
Very Incompetent people! National Shame! International Embarrassment! |

@OP
We are all aware of the many problems facing Nigeria before GEJ assumed power, no one is blaming him for the past woes.
The question everyone is asking is: What improvement has GEJ made on the system since over a year he became the president and C in C? |

ifyalways: HLbroker,I don't think Okada and okirika biz is the best for this couple. Both are high risk.Okirika does not necessarily bring in steady daily income(you might not make sales for 1 week) plus bike can develop faults, get seized by police.
We should be looking at something that would guarantee daily income/profit no matter how little with minimial risk.
Mowe accomodation sounds cool though. When you meet them on Sunday, find out from them what they can do that doesn't require much capital. I do not support putting the money into their hands directly at this stage, else some other priorities different from our program eat up the fund. We are trying to get another trustworthy Nairalander in Lagos that can work with you. Finger crossed |

ronkebp: Guys, abeg lets do something fast to help this people, what is the account number, where we can send the money to ?? because the faster we do this the better for the family member and let us make sure (whoever is in charge) the money is not stolen by a dubious person who is posing to want to help the people, because i hardly trust some of these Nigerians. Ifyalways I can trust. |

r231: ^^^^^Thanx bro. . . . I know that i can count on you
I spoke to ify today and she has agreed to be our main contact in naija for these project.
Obviously she has gone to visit them and number one priority is accommodation to start with and she gave a list of what is needed as well.
So we just need to arrange the funds and get it down to her ASAP as she has a limited time of stay in Lagos.
For the accommodation I have contacted couple of people on property section including Lawyer and still waiting on reply.
The only one that replied is in mowe area but I don't really think its a problem
Hopefully we will get these sorted soon Good job bro. Pls get Ify details and pm it to as many people willing to contribute. |

So sorry about the plight of these people.
Funny enough I lived for many years in that area, Okota, and I drove through Cele almost on daily basis. Wish I am in Naija now.
I am in support of helping them, get a room accommodation, and support them with a bizness that can sustain them.
But I think we should ask them what kinda simple trade/biz they can or will like to do, rather than assuming one for them.
You can count me in for whatever we finally decide.
When Ify visits them on Sunday, she should ask them what kinda job they can do.
In the meantime, we can start putting funds together, We need someone trustworthy resident in Lagos to keep the funds together. I dunno if ify will volunteer
We also need someone who can find an accommodation for them, we might post a thread in property section |
