Politics › Re: Can Nigeria Learn Anything From Sierra Leone's Civil War? by OAM4J: 5:54am On Nov 21, 2011 |
Whao! So much to learn. I am more pained by the atrocities the people of Serra Leaone committed against each others. ECOMOG might have stopped the way but not on a clean slate. And the most painful part of the whole story is that nothing was gained or achieved by the war, the several thousands that died and amputated, and the millions that were displaced suffered in vain cos the real motive of the war remained unfulfilled for " The richness of the country is still in the hands of foreign corporations" Something for the tribal Warlords to think about. |

RICHIE BOI: the $16 Billion dollars he squandered on power in the eight years he was in office, what has he got to show for it. You need to update yourself. Even the follow up stories on the $16B power story are stale already. @ topic. While we crucify obj ( and I have no problem with that) let's not loose focus on his message. |

Radiant: Welcome aboard. Now you understand my stance.
If the guy is an addict then we should send him to rehab and while he's there let his family move into a safe environment and set up a business for the wife. That is if the man is mentally unstable. I support your view. I wish this is as easy as raising money for him. A phone call would have fixed that somewhere else but not in Nigeria. But also not impossible if there is any of us that has the time and the right connection with the authority to pick him up for examination, counselling/treatment and offered his wife and kid the contributed assistance. But the big question is; where can we get the man with the time and the right connection with the authority? |

Radiant: So, does he want to remain under the bridge and have a business? That's why I said that whoever is reporting this news is not giving all the details.
I suggest we find out where he wants to live with his family, move them and set up a business for him. I doubt if he's bent on the building materials business. I'm sure he has other options. Someone needs to sit down and chat with the family. Please don't say beggars don't have a choice.
I remember in Menek's case. We didn't advise him to do provisions business instead of his dream to run a pharmacy. He wanted to run a pharmacy and we made that happen for him. (Haven't been on that thread in ages ) We can also do the same for this man. We're all willing to help just a bit confused atm We are not just relying on what we read, one of us Ifyalways actually met with the family and remained in touch with them all these while. The reality of the case confirmed by Ifyalways is that: 1. The man was offered a 2 rooms apartment he rejected it claiming he wont be able to maintain it (fair enough) 2. A room apartment was gotten for him and Ifalways sent his driver to move him and his family to the room, he refused to move cos he wants to have a job 1st 3. He said he wants to be selling building materials (nobody forced a job/trade on him), he was offered a shop and some finances but he claimed he wants N100K cash instead.
Even in Menek's case, we didn't just give him cash, we knew what he wanted to do and had an idea of his budget before we gave him the money, this man's case is totally different. Something is definitely wrong with his reasoning and until that is addressed, there is little or nothing anyone can do about his case. I am not in support of just giving him 100K to spend as he likes. |
Nairaland General › Re: Nairaland Charity Organisation- E-Helpers Network by OAM4J: 3:12am On Nov 18, 2011 |
r231: 1. Should projects be executed on a monthly, quarterly or annual basis? Or as they pop up?
Annual preferably end of the yr for less privileged (and we can deal with special case as they pop up depending on the facts)
2. Should we 'pass the basket for donations' each time a project comes up, or we disburse from whatever has been collected/saved before?
Depending on how much we are trying to raise
Just my view. . . . please don't just agree because i said so 1. Yeah, I agree with this. We should have an annual end of the year project for either orphans, widows or the elderly people starting with this year end. (especially now that Mr. Obus case no longer look feasible) And other cases will be attended to as they pop up and we see the need to do something. 2. Monthly or Quarterly or annual contribution for the end of the year project depending on the individual, but special fund raising for each case that comes up during d year. While minor urgent need can be taken care of from the account. 3. We should open an account domicile in Nigeria with at least 3 signatories and a paypal account too. |

r231: The U.K. based Nigerian then offered Obuh and his family a room at 13, Church Street, Off Gbajobi Bus Stop, Itele Road, Ota, Ogun State. Obuh again rejected the offer.
He demanded for N100,000 cash instead.
Obuh also demanded for a business he could do to sustain his family. To this request, a lady banker based in Lagos who also craved anonymity, was moved by the family’s plight and offered to assist him. The young lady bought buckets, stove and other things for Obuh. Obuh and the lady later visited a kiosk around Itele Road, Ota where he could be selling the building materials. Obuh again rejected the offer to stay at Ota and demanded for cash.
The banker expressed disgust about Obuh’s attack on her integrity saying, “he has a criminal mind. He has an ulterior motive. He insisted the money I gave him was not enough, insisting on N100,000.”
Did you read that part Yeah, I missed that part. Guess we let him be till he come to his senses or someone talk him to his senses. Let's focus on the charity organisation thing jare and plan how to put smiles on some children's face during this xmas. |
Jobs/Vacancies › Re: Unemployment Rate In Nigeria Hits 23.9% - NBS by OAM4J: 11:27pm On Nov 17, 2011 |
Kobojunkie: I think the more pathetic of all this is that WE allow the idi0ts to rule over us.
I mean think of it. You are being told that, even in the middle of all the GLOBAL FOOD CRISIS or 2006-2008, your Agricultural sector, near never missed a beat -- it continued to provide your GDP with at least 40% quarter after quarter. And then since late 2009, the reports have had it that the real GDP has maintained a 7% growth trend. That is very close to what China has been recording in the same period, but strong growth regardless, much of it championed by your Agricultural sector. I mean come on!!! ^What do you recommend as the way out? In a country where poverty has made many gone insane and lost their sense of value and dignity. I agree with what fstranger/meonbooty said a day or two ago; majority of Nigerians are like prisoners serving life sentences with verrrrryyyy haaaarrrrd labour. |

Am really at lost with the way forward with this man.
@Ifyalways
For the sake of the pregnant wife and the child, do you think it is a nice idea to persuade him to accept the accommodation offered him with a promise that we will support him with N100K?
But we will also like to have an idea of what exactly he wants to do with the money. |

Too bad. Some people's problem are more spiritual than physical and until you solve the spiritual problem, no physical solution will work. I suspect such is the case of this man. My empathy to the wife and kid too. |

ifyalways: Contd. So Mr Obuh said he suggested they go get a single room, something he's sure of maintaining and finally, they got a single room at the outskirt of Ayobo.I then instructed my driver to still wait and convey them to the house as me and Olowotee intends visiting on sunday but to my chargin,my driver said they don't seem to like the idea as they were taking their time to pack and unpack. After waiting for close to an hour,I instructed him to come back but not without arranging with Mr Obuh to come back on sunday noon @ Cele bus stop to come wait for me(I assumed they wud leave later today) so I can go know the place(and pick Olowotee too)I shared this information with Olowotee and that was around 10 am today.
Sincerely, from the moment they refused leaving with my driver,I grew weak and sceptical, not to mention the risk of going to "an outskirt of Ayobo".
Any other Nlder can go meet Mr. Obuh on sunday(im sure he wud be there) cos for me,I have logged off his case esp with this latest PM news. Now i get the whole picture. Thank you my sister. God bless you. |
