Mercedes-Benz has delivered the first Mercedes-Benz GLC F-CELL vehicles to selected customers in the German market.

The unique plug-in hybrid SUV ,which was unveiled last year at the Frankfurt Motor Show , runs on pure hydrogen as well on batteries.

That means instead of being powered by the traditional petrol or diesel fuel (with or without batteries) that puffs out unhealthy emissions , the F-Cell electric car uses pure hydrogen and it emits no CO2 emissions whatsoever during operation.

Two carbon-fibre-encased tanks in the vehicle floor hold 4.4 kg of hydrogen. The hydrogen supply can be topped up within three minutes -that's almost the same time you use when refuelling a petrol or diesel-engined car.

With a hydrogen consumption of around 1 kg per 100 km, the GLC F-CELL will achieve around 267 miles of hydrogen-only range.

In hybrid mode, it additionally delivers up to 51 km1 or about 300 miles on a fully charged battery. At the same time, an output of 155 kW helps to ensure high driving dynamics.

The GLC F-CELL SUV has four operating modes:

HYBRID: the vehicle draws power from both energy sources. Power peaks are handled by the battery, while the fuel cell runs in the optimum efficiency range.

F-CELL: the state of charge of the high-voltage battery is kept constant by the energy from the fuel cell. Only hydrogen is consumed. This mode is ideal for steady cruising over long distances.

BATTERY: the GLC F-CELL runs all-electrically and is powered by the high-voltage battery. The fuel cell system is not in operation. This is the ideal mode for short distances.

CHARGE: charging the high-voltage battery has priority, for example in order to recharge the battery for the maximum overall range prior to refuelling with hydrogen or to create power reserves.

For now, the market launch of the GLC F-CELL will take place only in selected cities that are well equipped with hydrogen filling stations, such as Stuttgart, Düsseldorf, Berlin, Hamburg, Frankfurt, Munich and Cologne .

Since we have no hydrogen filling stations to buy the hydrogen fuel that contributes to the lion’s share of its range, that means the unique SUV won't be available in Nigeria or may be available in the nearest future.

Mercedes-Benz also plans to expand the hydrogen refuelling station network within the German cities and hope other Countries can embrace the technology.

Both pets have been compared with Hachiko, the famous Akita dog that waited for its owner at Tokyo's Shibuya Station every day in the 1920s.

After its owner died in 1925, the dog continued to come to the station every day until his own death almost 10 years later. 

The story became legend and a statue of Hachiko was erected in the dog's memory in front of Shibuya Station, where every day hundreds of people have their photograph taken with it.

A faithful dog in north China has  touched the hearts of millions after it was spotted waiting for its owner on a road for more than 80 days after she was killed there.

Every day since its owner's death on August 21, the loyal dog in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia would show up at the same spot where its owner was hit, awaiting for her return.

Video capturing the devoted dog standing guard patiently in the middle of the busy road has been viewed nearly six million times, making the pooch an overnight star.

'It's been nearly three months now. The dog is always there, rain or shine. It's so touching,' taxi driver Guo Xinhua told China News. 

Guo said locals would try to help the dog by giving it food but it was scared of strangers, running away every time someone approached it. 

But it would always return to the same spot later, he said.    

Net users in China were moved by the dog's devotion while some expressed concerns for its welfare. 

'Sometimes dogs are more faithful than humans, really,' read one comment on Chinese micro-blogging site Weibo. 

'It's so dangerous for the dog to be lingering on the road,' one user said. 'I hope someone would give this little pooch a new home.'

'I'm in tears!' another said. 'This is so touching.'

Local charity Blue Hada is currently reaching out to the dog owner's family, according to the report. 

Earlier this year, Chinese net users fell hard for a 15-year-old dog named Xiongxiong who would wait outside a train station in Chongqing every day for his owner to come home from work.

Oil rich Dubai's Police has started training two of it's officers to fly the newly acquired S3 2019 Hoverbike with the hope introducing it to the force by 2020.

The Police department ,which already boast of the fastest and most expensive police cars ever ,said that the Hoverbike will primarily be used at locations that are difficult to access with it's fleets of supercars.

The single-seater Hoverbike can fly 16 feet (5m) above the ground and run for 20 to 25 minutes on a single charge, reaching a top speed of 60mph.

The Hoverbike can also cover up to 6km or fly for 40 minutes without a pilot .The swappable batteries needs about 3hrs to get fully charged.

The California-based Russian company Hoversurf, which showed off the High-tech flying bike in Dubai last year ,said buyers can now take deliveries of the $150,000 S3 2019 Hoverbike within two to six months from the time of reservation.

Hoversurf also plans to unveil a two-seater version of the Hoverbike in about four to five months,which will be available for purchase in 2020.

Tesla, Inc. has appointed Australian Robyn Denholm as the new chair of Tesla’s board of directors.

The former Chairman Elon Musk was forced to step down from the position after being sued by SEC for misleading investors that he wants to take Tesla private .

Part of the settlement was to step-down from the Chair role in addition to both Tesla and Musk paying a fine of $20 million each.

The new Chair has been a Tesla board member since 2014 . Before her new appointment, she was the CFO and Head of Strategy at Telstra, Australia’s largest telecommunications company.

She has extensive experience in both the tech and automotive industries, including Toyota,Sun Microsystems and Arthur Andersen & Co.

Tesla said

"Tesla’s Board of Directors is pleased to announce that Robyn Denholm has been appointed as Chair of the Tesla Board, effective immediately.

The Kaman K-MAX is the world's first helicopter specifically designed and certified for external lift operations.

The external cargo load helicopter was developed by Kaman Aircraft and designed to lift a payload of over 6,000 pounds . That is more than the helicopter's empty weight and almost twice as much as the "Bell 205" helicopters.

It uses a unique single-engine double-rotor system in which two intermeshing rotors (synchropter) cross each other.

This eliminates the need for a tail rotor found in conventional helicopters that is designed to hold it straight and to prevent it from spinning around in the opposite direction of the main rotor blades.

The K-MAXs two opposite-spinning and crossing rotors ensures a high lift performance in hot and high conditions than conventional helicopter .

Turkey’s president Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday October 29 opened the new Istanbul International Airport that is aimed to be the biggest by 2028.

The massive Airport will replace the Ataturk international Airport. It boasts of the world's largest terminal under one roof and is connected to the rest of the city through high-speed train, metro and as well as tarred roads.

In 1998,Volkswagen and BMW had a bidding war to buy the Rolls-Royce Motors when the owner , Vickers (also the owner of Bentley) , decided to sell the luxury brand.

The most likely buyer was BMW, which already supplied engines and other components for Rolls-Royce and Bentley cars.

BMW had the deal almost wrapped up with a final offer of £340 million before Volkswagen came in at the last minute with £430 million to win the deal for both brands.

But this didn’t mean that Volkswagen Group ( that currently sell passenger cars under the Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Porsche, SEAT, Skoda and Volkswagen models ) owned everything about the Rolls-Royce brand.

Volkswagen only bought the Rolls-Royce designs, nameplates, administrative headquarters, production facilities, Spirit of Ecstasy and Rolls-Royce grille shape trademarks .They didn’t buy the right to use the Rolls-Royce name or logo which belongs to Rolls-Royce plc.

Rolls-Royce plc, the aeroplane-engine maker, preferred BMW and for only to £40 million,it licensed the Rolls-Royce brand name and logo to BMW AG (the better part of the deal)

BMW also threatened to cut off engine supplies within a year ( which was part of their initial agreement ), a move that frightened customers and cut orders by 30 percent .

This means that Volkswagen won't be able to build new Engines that will power the Rolls-Royce vehicles within that time frame.

After a lengthy battle, the two German Automakers entered into negotiations and agreed that :

Volkswagen will use BMW's Rolls-Royce brand name and logos to produce Rolls-Royce branded vehicles between 1998 and 2002.

Also, BMW will continue supplying engines and components to Volkswagen's branded Rolls-Royce until the end of 2002, after which they will acquire the rights to the Spirit of Ecstasy and Rolls-Royce grill shape trademarks from Volkswagen AG. 

The time will also allow BMW to build a new Rolls-Royce administrative headquarters and production facility.

From January 1st 2003,BMW-owned Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Limited became the exclusive maker of Rolls-Royce branded cars,with the Rolls-Royce Phantom becoming the first luxury car offered for sale .

A driver stuck in traffic behind a Porsche Cayenne in Australia has posted the image of an error spotted behind the rear of the SUV.

The SUV which cost anything between ₦24m and ₦62m ,is sporting a badge that is carrying the maker's name mis-spelled as "Porshce" instead of Porsche.

The Volkswagen-owned Porsche insists that the spelling error couldn't have been made by the Manufacturer.

Porsche Australia Spokesman said:

"Our attention to detail and quality control is second to none so I can’t envisage that happening on our end"

"At the factory in Germany, one of the key things that we check is that all badging is correct.

"It's then checked again during the pre-delivery inspection at the dealership in Australia as well. It's on two separate checklists.

"We do those things on every single car and take quality control extremely seriously."

He also pointed out that the Porsche model in the picture is not brand new and the owner is likely to be aware of the mistake .  

It could also be a mistake from a failed debaging where car owners try to customize the automakers badge by removing it and putting their desired one.

The Porsche Model was in the news 6 months ago when David Adeleke, popularly known as  Davido, bought the 5-door SUV for his girlfriend Chioma as a birthday gift.

The 336hp SUV shares its platform, body frame, doors and electronics with Volkswagen Touareg and Audi Q7. 

It comes with a 3.0-litre V6 turbo . A top speed of 152mph and will move from zero to 62mph in 5.7seconds.

Two weeks ago, Singapore Airlines reclaimed the title for the world’s  longest commercial flight with the relaunch of its 9,540 miles Singapore to New York route.

This record-breaking 9,540 miles/18.45 hours non-stop flight ( that's like flying from Abuja-Lagos-Abuja 7 times , and 14 times in terms of distance) was made possible due to the availability of cheaper fuel and the new generation of fuel-efficient airliners like the A350-900 ULR (ultra long range) twin-engine  passenger aircraft that uses 30% less fuel.

The A350-900 ULR's has a modified fuel system that can carry an additional 24,000 litres (6340 gallons ) of fuel,making an over 20 hours (or almost a day) of flying time possibly .

But why would anyone want to sit in an aeroplane for an over 18 hours flight journey ?

The answer is simply because they’re not flying economy class.
Both business and Premium economy class passengers can get a bed space or better legroom, more than one meal and snacks , Free WiFi to surf the web and an extra 200 hours of films and TV shows . So it's like real home from home.

On Oct. 15, 2018, NASA tested its Ignition Overpressure Protection and Sound Suppression water deluge system at Kennedy Space Center's Launch Pad 39B by sending 450,000 gallons of water (approximately two million litres) above the surface of the launch pad.

That's like shooting more than half the quantity of water in an Olympic size swimming pool to about 100 feet in the air in under one minute .

Chinese President has officially opened the 55km world's longest sea crossing bridge. The sixth longest bridge on earth took nine years to complete.

The new bridge connects Hong Kong to Macau and the mainland Chinese city of Zhuhai.

It will cut travelling time between Zhuhai and Hong Kong from about four hours to just 30 minutes.

Built at the cost about $20bn (that is about ₦7.3trillion) and designed to last 120 years ,the mega structure is strong enough to withstand earthquakes and typhoons.

Part of the total crossing consists of a 30km bridge that crosses the sea. A 6.7km underwater tunnel also runs between two artificial islands to allow large cargo ship containers to pass through.

To put the length of the bridge into perspective, the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos (the second longest bridge in Africa) has a total length of 11.8 km.

For now, only private transports that has special permits will be allowed on the bridge. Hong Kong residents will also need special permits to access the toll paying bridge .

China also boasts of the World’s Highest Bridge ,the ₦52billion 1.34 km bridge between Xuanwei city and Shuicheng county, that is as tall as a 200-storey-building.
