TonyeBarcanista:If the Naira is already devalued on the streets, so what is the fuss all about?... As far as I'm concerned, these so called foreign The problem facing Nigeria today is a forex scarcity, devaluing will not fill in the gap in forex supply. The so called foreign investors who are leafing, how much of forex can they possibly introduce into NIgeria to balance the forex gap?.... Again, if you agree that bad leadership since the 80's mismanaged the potential economic benefits of devaluation, why are you so confident that we have better leaders today who would not also mismanage things if we devalue?... In terms of the calibre of our leaders, what has really changed since the 80's till date? |
Still on external forces mounting pressure on Nigeria to devalue its currency. Since the 80's this has always been the advice to African countries. Nigeria has devalued and devalued and devalued from N1 = $1 to the present N200 = $1 but has all these devaluations in the last 30 years ever helped Nigeria? TonyeBarcanista:And you think devaluing will miraculously take care of the sufferings we are subjected to at present because some oyibo economics textbooks says so?... How much foreign investments can possibly come in instantly to counter the prevalent scarcity of forex?.... With sky-high oil prices and excess forex in the NIgerian system between 2010-2014, how much of forex was really introduced into the country by these 'foreign investors'?.... If they couldn't help or impact so much in Nigeria when the going was good, how are we so sure that if we devalue , enough investors would rush in to help the Nigerian economy now that things are bad? |

Religion has done more harm than good to Africa. In present day NIgeria, once the word 'religion' is mentioned, it strikes a paranoid chord in the minds of people. The news making the round recently was that IRS and CRS have been merged, as soon as this story filtered into the air, a lot of people went paranoid with the usual reaction of "Buhari is islamizing Nigeria." As usual, once politicians hear stories like this, they quickly capitalise on the religious paranoia of people by twisting the story to suit their political narrative. Just yesterday on facebook, I saw a news report posted on the Ohaneze Ndigbo group and it was sensationally titled, "CRS Removed from School Curriculum." The composers of these divisive articles know how lazy Nigerians are by reading ONLY titles before forming an opinion. At the end of the day, Religious studies should just be completely removed from our curriculum for the sake of peace and sanity. |

@Myndd44 Rule no 8 being broken by this thread. |
ilawanson44:IVM is currently the only Nigerian car manufacturer. By your argument, you may think you are protecting IVM interests based on tribe, but that is absolutely unnecessary and counter-intuitive; the real effect of your action is that it will impress it on the minds of people that IVM is an regional Igbo brand instead of promoting it as a Nigerian brand. If this continues, it wouldn't be long before even people like Ben Bruce start seeing IVM purely as an Igbo (not Nigerian) brand and that is definitely bad for business. This is definitely not a good time to tribalise IVM, hopefully you understand what I'm saying. |
ilawanson44:The problem with tribalism is that while you think you are fighting off tribal hate and protecting your tribe, you are actually fuelling the tribal division and promoting hate and envy. Some of the comments here are purely constructive criticism which can help improve the brand. For crying out loud, IVM is the first and only indigenous commercial automobile manufacturer in Nigeria. They have gone a long way, and still have a long way to go. IVM is the pride of Nigeria and should be promoted by all. But while you may think you are protecting the brand, your paranoid comments here actually portray IVM as a regional Igbo car, this de-markets the brand and shouldn't be the case. Sometimes we need to view opinions with an open mind and not view every single issue as a fertile ground for tribal fights, this isn't politics. |
mamaafrik:Well, just mentioning it here might just be all I can do. I'm sure there must be people close to the management who would read this and communicate this across. |
These guys are actually bokoharam escapees migrating away from the north east with their blood thirst. |
chizidgreat:8 hours between PH and Enugu is a nightmare, but 48 hours between PH and Kano is almost a death sentence. It is cheap though, so that should be fine for someone who needs a cheaper and safer alternative. |
OLADD:Swerve.. |
PRXPERT:I raised a valid point which is quite relevant concerning the growth of IVM. Innoson being the only indigenous car manufacturer in Nigeria needs some extra rebranding and brand marketing to move up to the next level. My simple submission has absolutely nothing to do with tribe or ethnicity or religion or politics, my point is very clear and should be understood by any homosapien who has a brain. Unfortunately, some paranoid humans have automatically interpreted negative meanings into this my simple submission, some tribally depraved twerps claim I am tribally antagonising IVM by my statement and I cannot help but feel embarrassed at this mental affliction that has befallen some of our youths. I obviously assumed IN ERROR that there were sane and intelligent humans in this thread when I made my comment, I expected some intelligent contributions (as it used to be on Nairaland years back). But unfortunately, the least thing I expected was the thread to be filled with empty brained paranoid tribal-fighting lowlives. Mr PRXPERT, I made a simple comment which has absolutely nothing to do with tribe or ethnicity or religion or whatever. My comment was also in no way antagonising the effort and ingenuity of IVM. I am fully aware of the foolish tribal wars that go on on this forum and other Nigerian social media platforms and I understand your criteria for measuring a person's Igboness is for the person to indulge in this imbecilic tribal war between Yoruba vs Igbo. But I'm sorry, I choose to pitch my tent with common sense and objectivity and I am happy standing by the side and ignoring the tribal foolishness. Taking a position I consider foolish is not and can never be the criteria to be Igbo. In view of that, I suggest you take your worthless opinion about my origins and shove it up your stinking a**; your opinion does not change who I am. cc: Uduak2019 |
Uduak2019:Bro, I am obviously not the sick, paranoid, deluded twerp here. I pointed out things which I believe can make a great enterprise greater, but only a foolish soul thinks everyone they meet online must be an idiotic tribalist who turns everything into a fight. Gerrarrahia! |

I keep saying it, IVM needs a lot more adverts and a lot of re-branding to fit into the world and get to the great height it ought to get to. It's a shame that in 2016, they still have glaring typos on the frontpage of their website, it's sad. |
OLADD:Facts and precision you say?... but so far, all your submissions have been nothing but melancholic emotional rants. Get yourself together and understand that Buhari isn't the cause of your problems man. Just a reminder (just incase you have forgotten), politics is a game, a dirty game which politicians play to attract favours and development to their people. However when someone plays the kind of politics which wouldn't benefit his people, then that is obviously not dirty politics, it is foolish politics. You are free to keep fighting and accusing Buhari of insincerity in his decision to bring some developmental projects to the south, but remember that while you keep accusing Buhari, smart politicians are out there diverting projects to their domain. But at the end of the day as usual, you would still return to blame Buhari for neglecting your village. |
OLADD:Rubbish... Please I aint got the time for all you Jonathanians who are so bitter and confused to the point where you dont mind cutting off your own limbs because you think it would spite PMB. Good day! |
www.nairaland.com/attachments/3620354_img20160419211913_jpeg9efb9229cf4685e0687708ea462b4ee2 Did PDP actually tweet the above? |
kutchs:No! on the contrary, you are the one who is being too smart for your self and your over-smartness is negatively eroding your objectivity. The freaking fact is that Buhari wants this project to go on and while you are trying to be too smart for yourself in your hatred for Buhari, you are questioning his sincerity and in the process, pitching your tents with the very people who cancelled the project. In other words, you are letting your hatred and distrust for Buhari get the better part of your reasoning here. Cut if off! |
OLADD:At least they were not dumb enough to play the kind of political game where they would be the sole losers. That is where the difference lies, just in case you are to challenged to see that. Today Lai Mohammed's party is sitting tight at Aso rock and Lai himself sits comfortably as the honourable minister of education. You claim you want to copy Lai's style of politicking but here you are, supporting some northern appropriation committee members who cancelled developmental projects in the south and moved the funds to the north; in your peculiar wisdom, opposition politics simply means standing against whatever Buhari says or stands for, even when it obviously doesnt favour you. Such impeccable wisdom! |

kutchs:The point is that buhari intends to carry out this project and he has further indicated his interest by refusing to assent to the budget until the project is re-included. I don't understand what you intend to achieve with these barrage of pointless questions except for just an inordinate desire to turn everything to a political fight even in situations where it hurts you. |
OLADD:Mr Man I am not spreading any falsehood, it doesnt matter if the project was put in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd or ghost budget. The fact is that Buhari refused to sign the budget because certain projects meant to benefit southern Nigeria were removed by his brothers and the funds channelled to the north. On this case, Buhari's stance clearly favours the south and I find it very strange and silly that any southerner would choose this occasion to want to fight against Buhari. I also find it very strange that any southerner would choose this particular case to celebrate or glorify anyone fighting Buhari as is being done on this thread. You guys should grow up out of your political oblivion, it is not in every case you must have to play politics. |
erunz:Whether the project was in the first or the second or the third version, the fact is that the president is interested in having this project done, hence he withheld his assent. But strangely, instead of southern senators supporting this, they seem to prefer the political fight with the president, how can any southern senators possibly think this budget issue is a good ground to pick a fight with the president?.. For crying out loud, who does that? Let us be honest with ourselves, assuming this was in the time of GEJ when the northerners were still in opposition, do you think northern senators would be silly enough to use a case like this to fight the president (whose argument favours the north)?... We claim to be educated and enlightened in the south but we really need to grow up and understand when to and when not to play politics. |
PFRB:Speak what you know and stop letting prejudice and irrational hatred becloud your reasoning. What do you mean by saying PMB stopped 2nd Niger Bridge project?... Kindly pick up the 2015 budget drawn by your GEJ and point out to me if one kobo was budget in 2015 for the project. If nothing was budgeted by GEJ for it in 2015, kindly tell us how the contractors should have continued work without payment and kindly tell us how that was Buhari's doing?.... And what do you even mean by 2nd Niger Bridge isn't Buhari's project?... Is it supposed to be a person's personal property?... What fraction of the total sum for the bridge was even provided by GEJ?.... So if that bridge is eventually built, you and your ilk would start jumping around singing the bridge belongs to GEJ? You guys need to grow up! |
Ezenwammadu:Projects meant for the south are expunged from the budget and the funds diverted to vague projects in the north. Instead of southern opposition senators to push for this injustice to be instantly reversed and the budget passed, they rather think this is the most suitable time and scenario to apply the laws of karma by fighting Buhari.... This is a bizarre case of 'Iberiberism.' |
With Poorverty, anything can be bought. |
Another case of much ado about nothing... |
With all the importation and forex restriction aimed at discouraging imports, of course the revenue from import duties would keep going down. |
hakanai:Yeah the point I was trying to make is that those external nations will never leave what they have to do to come and develop Nigeria as a form of charity. They only 'agree' to do business with you (for their own profits), it is then left for Nigeria to make use of the business opportunity to develop itself. |
