PoliticsRe: Nigeria Economics Loses To Politics As Buhari Takes Naira Stand – Bloomberg by obailala(m): 2:42pm On Apr 21, 2016
TonyeBarcanista:
My brother blame the leaders since 1980s that mismanaged the economy and not the policy itself. Naira is N200 against the dollar officially but how many businesses trade on that?
If the Naira is already devalued on the streets, so what is the fuss all about?... As far as I'm concerned, these so called foreign investors exploiters are just out to make mega profits from the misfortunes of Nigerians, hence their continuous frustration over the stubbornness of the CBN/PMB to devalue the currency. They keep leaving Nigeria, not because they make no profits, but rather as a form of blackmail to frustrate and arm-twist CBN/PMB to devalue.

The problem facing Nigeria today is a forex scarcity, devaluing will not fill in the gap in forex supply. The so called foreign investors who are leafing, how much of forex can they possibly introduce into NIgeria to balance the forex gap?.... Again, if you agree that bad leadership since the 80's mismanaged the potential economic benefits of devaluation, why are you so confident that we have better leaders today who would not also mismanage things if we devalue?... In terms of the calibre of our leaders, what has really changed since the 80's till date?
PoliticsRe: Nigeria Economics Loses To Politics As Buhari Takes Naira Stand – Bloomberg by obailala(m): 1:32pm On Apr 21, 2016
Still on external forces mounting pressure on Nigeria to devalue its currency. Since the 80's this has always been the advice to African countries. Nigeria has devalued and devalued and devalued from N1 = $1 to the present N200 = $1 but has all these devaluations in the last 30 years ever helped Nigeria?

TonyeBarcanista:
The benefit are enormous though not immediate, it outweighs the suffering we are subjected to at present
And you think devaluing will miraculously take care of the sufferings we are subjected to at present because some oyibo economics textbooks says so?... How much foreign investments can possibly come in instantly to counter the prevalent scarcity of forex?.... With sky-high oil prices and excess forex in the NIgerian system between 2010-2014, how much of forex was really introduced into the country by these 'foreign investors'?.... If they couldn't help or impact so much in Nigeria when the going was good, how are we so sure that if we devalue , enough investors would rush in to help the Nigerian economy now that things are bad?

EducationRe: Re: New National Curriculum: No Merger Of Crs And Irs by obailala(m): 10:07am On Apr 21, 2016
Religion has done more harm than good to Africa. In present day NIgeria, once the word 'religion' is mentioned, it strikes a paranoid chord in the minds of people. The news making the round recently was that IRS and CRS have been merged, as soon as this story filtered into the air, a lot of people went paranoid with the usual reaction of "Buhari is islamizing Nigeria." As usual, once politicians hear stories like this, they quickly capitalise on the religious paranoia of people by twisting the story to suit their political narrative. Just yesterday on facebook, I saw a news report posted on the Ohaneze Ndigbo group and it was sensationally titled, "CRS Removed from School Curriculum." The composers of these divisive articles know how lazy Nigerians are by reading ONLY titles before forming an opinion. At the end of the day, Religious studies should just be completely removed from our curriculum for the sake of peace and sanity.

Abeg stop running faster than your shadow! I am talking with facts on ground!! Take Ibeto cement to the North and see how many people will buy it! I visited Kano and wanted to buy pasta (Spaghetti) and my preferred brand is Golden Penny. All the shops i entered sold only Dangote! Same with their Noodles. I asked and was reliably told that it was like that because of the Northern affiliation to Dangote and i will only get other brands at Sabon Giri (inhabited by non-hausas). Ask your self why most yoruba people own a Glo line too!
IVM is currently the only Nigerian car manufacturer. By your argument, you may think you are protecting IVM interests based on tribe, but that is absolutely unnecessary and counter-intuitive; the real effect of your action is that it will impress it on the minds of people that IVM is an regional Igbo brand instead of promoting it as a Nigerian brand. If this continues, it wouldn't be long before even people like Ben Bruce start seeing IVM purely as an Igbo (not Nigerian) brand and that is definitely bad for business. This is definitely not a good time to tribalise IVM, hopefully you understand what I'm saying.

North and other states you say? Hatred, Tribalism and bigotry will not allow them to patronize Innoson even if he sells the cars for as low as N5k!

In their words, "Ahhhhh! Ironi....i can not buy that yeebooo car" and "Kai...dan iska...nyamiri motor....shege na!"
The problem with tribalism is that while you think you are fighting off tribal hate and protecting your tribe, you are actually fuelling the tribal division and promoting hate and envy. Some of the comments here are purely constructive criticism which can help improve the brand. For crying out loud, IVM is the first and only indigenous commercial automobile manufacturer in Nigeria. They have gone a long way, and still have a long way to go. IVM is the pride of Nigeria and should be promoted by all. But while you may think you are protecting the brand, your paranoid comments here actually portray IVM as a regional Igbo car, this de-markets the brand and shouldn't be the case. Sometimes we need to view opinions with an open mind and not view every single issue as a fertile ground for tribal fights, this isn't politics.

TravelRe: A Nairalander's Experiences On The Train From Port-Harcourt To Kano In Pictures by obailala(m): 3:23pm On Apr 20, 2016
chizidgreat:
...

First, I observed that the train was faster than many people think. We left Portharcourt by 7am and reached Enugu around 3pm, something I never thought would be possible with the Nigerian train. Well, you should know that there is no traffic jam associated with the train. Secondly, I observed that the train have many advantages over the buses like space, enough natural air, table to place your things and even read your books if you want to, and the convenience to move about as you like and with that, you will never get bored throughout the journey no matter the length of distance. Also, the train is very cost effective especially in this kind of time that fuel determines almost every move we make. In fact, the fare from Ph to Enugu is just 650 ( I mean sixty hundred and fifty naira ) and from Ph to Kaduna; 2,100.

....

Now, let me encourage anyone that wish to travel a long distance and don't have the money that the train is a good alternative and is safer than you think. I also made few inquiries and discovered that the train moves from Portharcourt on Tuesdays by 7am and arrives Kano by Thursday Morning. It also leaves Kano that same Thursday and arrives Portharcourt by Saturday Morning. That means the movement is once in a week; this is apart from the one that shuttles between towns like Aba and Ph on daily basis though. So, if you are travelling from Enugu to Ph, just come to Enugu railway station by 3pm on Saturday and from Enugu to Kano or Lafia or Kaduna should come to Enugu railway station by 3pm on Tuesdays. Any other information about other locations would be duly communicated
8 hours between PH and Enugu is a nightmare, but 48 hours between PH and Kano is almost a death sentence. It is cheap though, so that should be fine for someone who needs a cheaper and safer alternative.

you are not only a liar but a hypocrite.. and functional one at that. you have repeatedly claimed to be igbo, whereas I have never seen anything in your post that point at that.. I dare you screen grab the typo and paste it here.. even cnn had made worse mistakes, and that is your basis for condemning them, mind I'm also a staunch critic of innoson, but you are deceiving yourself oye ofe mmanu like you.. Another stop claiming intelligent you very far from it..
I raised a valid point which is quite relevant concerning the growth of IVM. Innoson being the only indigenous car manufacturer in Nigeria needs some extra rebranding and brand marketing to move up to the next level. My simple submission has absolutely nothing to do with tribe or ethnicity or religion or politics, my point is very clear and should be understood by any homosapien who has a brain.

Unfortunately, some paranoid humans have automatically interpreted negative meanings into this my simple submission, some tribally depraved twerps claim I am tribally antagonising IVM by my statement and I cannot help but feel embarrassed at this mental affliction that has befallen some of our youths. I obviously assumed IN ERROR that there were sane and intelligent humans in this thread when I made my comment, I expected some intelligent contributions (as it used to be on Nairaland years back). But unfortunately, the least thing I expected was the thread to be filled with empty brained paranoid tribal-fighting lowlives.

Mr PRXPERT, I made a simple comment which has absolutely nothing to do with tribe or ethnicity or religion or whatever. My comment was also in no way antagonising the effort and ingenuity of IVM. I am fully aware of the foolish tribal wars that go on on this forum and other Nigerian social media platforms and I understand your criteria for measuring a person's Igboness is for the person to indulge in this imbecilic tribal war between Yoruba vs Igbo. But I'm sorry, I choose to pitch my tent with common sense and objectivity and I am happy standing by the side and ignoring the tribal foolishness. Taking a position I consider foolish is not and can never be the criteria to be Igbo. In view of that, I suggest you take your worthless opinion about my origins and shove it up your stinking a**; your opinion does not change who I am.

Facts and precision you say?... but so far, all your submissions have been nothing but melancholic emotional rants. Get yourself together and understand that Buhari isn't the cause of your problems man.

Just a reminder (just incase you have forgotten), politics is a game, a dirty game which politicians play to attract favours and development to their people. However when someone plays the kind of politics which wouldn't benefit his people, then that is obviously not dirty politics, it is foolish politics. You are free to keep fighting and accusing Buhari of insincerity in his decision to bring some developmental projects to the south, but remember that while you keep accusing Buhari, smart politicians are out there diverting projects to their domain.

But at the end of the day as usual, you would still return to blame Buhari for neglecting your village.

Oh! You now see the "victory" of Buhari in the last election and subsequent appointment of Lai Mohammed as minister of (mis)information as an imitable template on how to play dirty politics in Nigeria? Now I can truly decipher your personality even without setting eyes on you. If you care to know; the victory of the wicked is temporary. Didn't Abacha successfully outsmart MKO Abiola and Ernest Shonekan to become a military junta? How did he end in 1998? And as a point of correction my children and I would never, I repeat, would never take after Lai Mohammed's ways of life both in politics and other spheres of life.

I am not a tribal jingoist neither did I support cancelation of projects earmarked for any part of the country but as regards Calabar-Lagos rail, it was a smokescreen intended to ridicule the National Assembly by a crafty president (executive). It was an afterthought meant to score cheap political point, shore up Buhari's battered image and set the masses against the legislators. Be informed accordingly.

The difference between you and me is that you are easily deceived which is quite unfortunate. I keep wondering why a project as important as the Calabar-Lagos rail line is considered not important to be included in the Appropriation Act prepared and submitted by the president himself.
No! on the contrary, you are the one who is being too smart for your self and your over-smartness is negatively eroding your objectivity. The freaking fact is that Buhari wants this project to go on and while you are trying to be too smart for yourself in your hatred for Buhari, you are questioning his sincerity and in the process, pitching your tents with the very people who cancelled the project. In other words, you are letting your hatred and distrust for Buhari get the better part of your reasoning here. Cut if off!

Anyway, direct your advice on when not to play politics (with everything) to Lai Mohammed and APC. They established the norm of playing politics with even the blood of Nigerians. If you're short of memory, pick your phone and google APC press statements in the last two years.
At least they were not dumb enough to play the kind of political game where they would be the sole losers. That is where the difference lies, just in case you are to challenged to see that.

Today Lai Mohammed's party is sitting tight at Aso rock and Lai himself sits comfortably as the honourable minister of education. You claim you want to copy Lai's style of politicking but here you are, supporting some northern appropriation committee members who cancelled developmental projects in the south and moved the funds to the north; in your peculiar wisdom, opposition politics simply means standing against whatever Buhari says or stands for, even when it obviously doesnt favour you. Such impeccable wisdom!

You've started your beautiful nonsense again. Why is Apc DNA so compatible with yours. A thread was created reminding Nigerians how Gbajabiamila and APC tried fruitlessly to frustrate the passage of 2014 budget and you're here talking jazz about Calabar-Lagos rail project which was never in the budget proposal sent to the NA by Buhari. Why are you so mischievous in character? If the rail project was so dear to Buhari why was it not included in the initial budget proposal? Stop spreading falsehood on Nairaland.
Mr Man I am not spreading any falsehood, it doesnt matter if the project was put in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd or ghost budget. The fact is that Buhari refused to sign the budget because certain projects meant to benefit southern Nigeria were removed by his brothers and the funds channelled to the north. On this case, Buhari's stance clearly favours the south and I find it very strange and silly that any southerner would choose this occasion to want to fight against Buhari.

I also find it very strange that any southerner would choose this particular case to celebrate or glorify anyone fighting Buhari as is being done on this thread. You guys should grow up out of your political oblivion, it is not in every case you must have to play politics.

Whether the project was in the first or the second or the third version, the fact is that the president is interested in having this project done, hence he withheld his assent. We have to take between the west, East and others grin It will take centuries to do it alone and some decades to do it with others.
Yeah the point I was trying to make is that those external nations will never leave what they have to do to come and develop Nigeria as a form of charity. They only 'agree' to do business with you (for their own profits), it is then left for Nigeria to make use of the business opportunity to develop itself.
