odumchi: Why not just accept the fact that people's dialects differ. There is not a universal word for everything in Igbo. Where I come from alligator is known as aghu, kite as egbe, and ant as ijere. And I'm pretty sure the central Igbo for kite is egbe. As for camel, I purposely left it as jaki since no one came up with an alternative for it. If you want it removed, I can do so.

We never had tigers in Igboland, true, but we never had horses and we still have a name for them. Like I said earlier, agu means 'leopard' but it was extended to mean 'tiger'. In fact, agu is just a term that refers to any fierce forest-dwelling cat.

For egbe meaning kite, refer to 1:04 in this video and you will see someone refering to kite as egbe.

I recognise that dialects differ but not when an animal is given a name that belongs to another animal.
I try to incorporate the different dialects if I know them. Alligator is found mainly in North America. Aghu/Aghi is actually a small alligator looking reptile; I can't find the name now. Just a little bigger than lizard.
Ijere is a type of ant and not a name for ants.
Camel is anyinya (there's nothing like enyinya). I don't know the name for a horse.
Calling Kite egbe by someone does not change its actual name. Kites remain Nkwo, ogankwo etc but not egbe. Egbe is bigger than kite (nkwo).

You people should stop writing what you don't know. If you're not sure, don't write it and when you're corrected, try to correct your post(s) to the right one(s) instead of confusing people.

Igbo have no name for tiger, we never had tigers in Alaigbo.
Peacock is not torotoro.
Kite is not egbe.
Alligator is not aghu.
Ant is not ijere.
Camel is not jaki.

PoliticsRe: Enugu International Airport Re-opens (16-05-12) by Obiagu1(m): 2:57am On May 19, 2012
As seen from the bolded, FAAN says a new terminal building is being constructed. I just wonder why there's not much detail on it by way of cost or pics of the present stage of construction. Everything seems to be shrouded in secrecy huh. But if you're waiting for updates/pics from our Enugu peeps, forget it mate- they're so slack over there it's annoying.
That's why I said until I see the terminal, everything they say now is just bullshit to me. When I see the terminal, compare it to what we have in Abuja and Lagos, then I'll say whether we have an "international" airport or an airplane park.

Until I see a terminal, the runway is just a glorified highway!
Enough of this bullshit sad
PoliticsRe: Fashola Renews Call For State Police by Obiagu1(m): 8:31pm On May 18, 2012
jason123: Fashola, GOD FORBID IT IN NIGERIA! You hear me so?! GOD FORBID IT!

So people like Ibori, Tinubu,Orji, Akala, OGD, Timpre sylva, Ohakim etc and co can hold us to ransom abi?! I reject state policing in JESUS NAME! Amen!
Having state police does not mean we won't have a federal police as well. Anyway, I believe that policing should be in the hands of local governments and communities as well as the federal government. States should not have police.
Again, you are underestimating these Dangotes, Ibetos, and Innosons. They may seem untalented to you. But they must have had something that distinguished them from their peers.
Not at all but they are not any different from every other Joe out there that are into trading. It's unlike, let's say, Larry Page or Jay Z who undoubtedly got to where he is today from pure talent.
PoliticsRe: To Become A Millionaire In North America Is Hard! by Obiagu1(op):
afam4eva: Hmm, you made a very good point there. Take those Igbo traders in Alaba for example. If they were in a country like the US, it will be very difficult for them to become millonaires but here in Nigeria, someone just leaves a remote village in Anambra and in two years the person is driving a nice courtesy trading. Many of them are even way richer than those that attended a university.
You can't hear such stories in North America, never.

I discussed this with my boss when he was lamenting that he was tired of working for someone but couldn't find what else he could do. Everywhere he thought of could not give him as much money as he currently makes working. I tell you many of them are in the same situation.

I have a friend that quit his job early last year, moved back to Nigeria and he's doing pretty good. If he continues on the same slope as he is now, in 4-5 years time, he'll count his first million dollar. Whereas while in Canada, he tried everything possible including the US but hit a brick wall.
PoliticsRe: To Become A Millionaire In North America Is Hard! by Obiagu1(op): 7:40pm On May 18, 2012
So the US sucks because although poor talented people can easily become millionaires, poor, untalented ones can't?

Which country on earth do large #s of poor untalented people become rich? undecided

I think you underestimate these people that you believe had/have no talent...

In any case, for the vast majority of people across the world, they'd choose to immigrate to the US over almost any other country..
The word "easily" is an overstatement; you just overstretched the truth. The poor talented ones in other countries could become millionaires as well, couldn't they?
The question is, could the poor untalented ones make it?

Having studied the economy of North America, I can tell you no, they can't make it or it's very difficult for them to make it. However, in other less developed countries, they could. Now how is that possible? The only sector of the economy that could happen is trade. Anyone could make it there, talented or not. This is why I emphasized that Nigeria should protect that sector and prevent the likes of WalMart and Shoprite from keeping the poor forever poor. If not for trade, we won't have the likes of Dangote, Ibeto or Innoson.
