CultureRe: Town Or Clan Whose Original Dialect Is Closer To Central Igbo? by Obiagu1(m): 2:57pm On Jun 09, 2012
Odenigbo Aroli: You will never hear an Onicha man use"Ive"; Isuofia,Ekwuluobia and environs use "Ive". If you hear flavour nabania you will notice he has a accent and will usually use " Ive"for "Ife",thats because he came from tha Orumba area. One word that Onicha,Obosi and Nkpor are known for is " Isa aru"(to take a bath). They use ""Isa" in the place of "Iwu" which is used by some but not all Idenmili towns. Another town that use the letter "V" instead of "F" is Awka! Like I said before there is very little difference between Idenmili and Onicha dialects and it will be impossible for an outsider to point out!
Are you familiar with Igbo dialects in Njikoka and Anaocha areas? It seems the same as that of Idenmili.

I don't know what I speak any more; I use "isa" and "iwu" interchangeably without noticing it. The only thing I'm sure I don't use is "v" in place of "f".
CultureRe: Town Or Clan Whose Original Dialect Is Closer To Central Igbo? by Obiagu1(m): 6:33am On Jun 09, 2012
NRI PRIEST: Obiagu, my point is that there is a little to no difference between the Igbo spoken in Onicha city and the core Onicha dialect because the Onicha axis Igbo is a combination of Idenmili,Onicha and Asaba dialects which is very similar with little difference.
That's quite interesting. I probably do not know Onitsha dialect the way I think I do. There used to be slight difference between Enugu and Onitsha (city) dialects but these days, it's virtually the same only that Onitsha has more slang and flavour that gives is that "swag".

NRI PRIEST: But who are the "agbenu" ppl? I remember my dadd use to refers to someppl as "ndi agbenu" which make me think it most be a certain group in Anambra or even Enugu bevause my uncle alzo reffered to some Enugu guys as "ndi agbenu"? Just curious tho.
Ndi Agbenu are Anambra people that may include Oji in Enugu while Ndi Wawa are Enugu people, though both terms are archaic now.
Anambra and delta dialects aren't central igbo written or spoken.
I think the fact that anambra dialects are used in the majority of igbo movies has confused some.
I can hardly follow asaba or onitsha igbo biko unu
You're right. I think some people confuse what is spoken in Onitsha presently with Onitsha dialect.
CultureRe: Town Or Clan Whose Original Dialect Is Closer To Central Igbo? by Obiagu1(m): 3:13am On Jun 09, 2012
afam4eva: Asaba and Onitsha dialect seem to be easiest to follow plus they're like the english of Igbo language. Anybodyw who can speak these dialects are usually considered to be educated(Igbo wise). Even here in Enugu where our dialect is different, we speak the Anambra Igbo which I consider to be the spoken central. Igbo.
I think that the Igbo spoken in the cities of Enugu and Onitsha is different from typical Onitsha/Idemili/Asaba dialect. The currently spoken dialect in Onitsha and Enugu is actually a blend of several dialects but closely resembles that of Anambra dialects not necessarily Onitsha/Idemili. I think you'll observe quite a lot of difference when you read a bible written in Onitsha dialect.

Those spoken central dialects is what you'll hear in Kaduna and Lagos, places I've lived for long periods. I don't know what dialect is spoken in PH.

TravelRe: List Of Nigerian Planes And Their Ages - Read This Before You Fly. by Obiagu1(m): 12:44am On Jun 06, 2012
This is bullshit. You can't judge a plane just with one criterion alone. Age is meaningless when the plane has low nautical miles covered. The more important criterion should be nautical miles and not age.

Same thing with cars. I have a car that's 4 yrs old with just 25,000 km since I barely use it and it's still new. Can you compare it with a similar car that's 1 yr old but have 150,000 km?

CultureRe: Why Do Yoruba Guys Mostly Marry Igbo Girls Than Vice Versa? by Obiagu1(m): 5:36pm On Jun 05, 2012
Interesting . . .

mimifonwon: I am a mixture of Yoruba, Igbo, and fulani. My father is Igbo and Fulani and my mom Yoruba.
mimifonwon: My mom is igbo and my dad is yoruba/hausa, so I claim yoruba cuz thats my dad's paternal grandfather's people.
CultureRe: Why Do Yoruba Guys Mostly Marry Igbo Girls Than Vice Versa? by Obiagu1(m): 1:29am On Jun 04, 2012
mimifonwon: Well according to igbo traditions whatever your father is, is what you are, there is nothing like am mixed this and that, but it was my yoruba side that made me understand that i wasnt full yoruba.I mean growing up my parents forced us to learn igbo, yoruba and hausa, it amazed me that though my mom learned my father's language, he indirectly refused to learn hers. I remember whenever i went to visit my grandma in umuahia, abia state, she always treated us as if we were igbo, and rarely acknowledged the fact our father wasnt from igbo tribe, she even insisted that we teach her some yoruba language so she can surprise her inlaws. But my paternal relatives, especially my paternal grandma always made side comments about us not being full yoruba. Anyways when i was with my paternal relatives they at times made my siblings and i feel out of place, even though compared to some of them, we spoke better yoruba than them. So when it comes to identifying myself i used to say yoruba only growing up, because my mom said as long as we dont bare her father's lastname that we belong to our father. My mom says because her igbo heritage is exactly like that of the hebrews, where though a man might marry multiple women, the offsprings belong to the man's culture because when a woman marries, she is suppose to adopt her husbands tribe as hers, and no longer her own.But when i turned 16teen and my paternal cousins kept on calling us omo igbos, i just decided-against my mother's wish to claim both.
Why not claim your Igbo side wholly then, after all Igbos treat "umu nwadiala" with great respect and do not discriminate against them?

You're very stupid.
So when your Igbo women were posting bigoted tribalistic threads, were you blind?
What happened to Freewilly, Ohsisi and Aloy.emeka who are more bigotted than "Ileke-IdI" and " Desola"? Even though Ohsis and Aloy.emeka were running after anything Yoruba-man, posting about Yoruba dccik size and what not.
And FYI, knowing Igbo culture, "desola" and "ileke-idi" would rather date Fulanis before your Igbo kinsmen.
The true fact of it is that Yoruba ladies marry outside of Yorubaland too, but they don't want Igbo men. Swallow you ego. When it comes to anything Igbo men and marriage, don't mention my name again you fuktard.

I was going to ignore this thread until the ediot posted my name here.
Shut up there! It seems you're getting more frustrated everyday; use and dump wahala I guess.

well i just have seen more of the igbo woman, yoruba man pairing than yoruba woman, igbo man pairing, not to say it doesnt happen. also I was just curious. I felt considering you NLrs like to bring everything down to igbo vs yoruba, i wanted to open up a discussion, so i can learn why the data is more skewed to more igbo women marrying yoruba men than yoruba women marrying igbo men( which does happen).
Your story sounds a bit weird though; a Yoruba man complaining about your ethnicity when you are Yoruba paternally.
Also, I think you should have titled your thread: "Why don't Yoruba guys marry Igbo girls" based on your story except you want to know whether Igbo men are readily open to marry Yoruba girls.

@ OP, the answer is right there in front of you. Look at Nairaland!
Imagine an Igbo man marrying someone like Desola, Ileke-Idi, etc. The simple answer is that Yoruba women are too bigoted compared to Igbo women.

Nawa for this country. If this ugly trend of renaming already established universities after some politicians is not stopped, believe me every university in Nigeria will soon be bearing someone's name; very pathetic. By the way, who gave him the authority to rename the university, even if he is the president and the university a federal university, without consultation with interested parties that include the university management, faculties, students and alumni? This is silly and should be reversed!

There's a new university in Ekiti, if MKO deserves a university after his name, that could be named after him. Leave established universities along!

PoliticsRe: Will Nigeria Break Up By 2015? by Obiagu1(m):
Onlytruth: I personally am not trying to appease anyone. Believe me! lol How can an aggrieved party be trying to appease anyone? lol!
My concern is that history must not repeat. I have read enough account of what happened that I have come to understand why A LOT of top Igbo persons distant from any talks of secession. They honestly have not seen smart moves by MASSOB or any other organization so far. What I maintain is that a situation whereby nearly ALL southern groups are allied against Ndigbo is a strategic nightmare which the likes of me would NEVER allow to see the light of day, if I can. cool My father also told me how Igbo contributed more to the failure of Biafra than even outsiders. That is why I insist that Igwe bu ike should by my motto. If we cannot join a collective effort, all our individual efforts are in vain. If we had not supported Jonathan, at least the first time, it would not be good strategically. I was amongst those who initially opposed him until I started to read from some of our top Igbo politicians, and also did my own introspection. At the end, I saw that we had no choice. In 2015, if the strategic calculus does not change, we will likely support him again. It is called facing reality.

I wish to advise my brothers to tone down their words against these groups because there is no need whatsoever for those words. They should spend more of their energy to get us strategic infrastructure in SE. Our journey begins there.
As it stands now, if those Igbo in government(Anyim Pius, Ngozi Iweala, Stella Odua et al) do not get us those infrastructure, how can anyone even talk of an Igbo nation seceded from Nigeria? Let us start by learning to work together and think for the GROUP rather than self.
I disagree we had no choice. However, let the new direction open our eyes further at the end of the day and let us see it as it is without the need to spin our way out of it. There is, also, no need to shift the blame to Anyim, Ngozi and co when they only do the bidding of their master; it'll be disingenuous to do so. In addition, I will not face a reality if the impeding reality is my demise without trying to fight my way out of it.

As for "Igwe bu ike", that's only true when there's a unity of purpose. "Igwe abughi ike" if you and I are fighting for the same thing while I harbour an ulterior motive.

bayooooooo: I am still laughing cheesy grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin kiss No be small thing
You need to build bridges even if you want to secede. Apart from the North (no one will resist them anyway), no group group alone, except may be South South (if united) with oil driving the interest of world powers, can successfully secede from Nigeria. Secession can be made easier if there is dominant political structures and economic integrations in the East, another one in the West and another one in the South. If these three units have some sort of understanding and proclaim secession at the same time, it's all over for Nigeria.

While I am not advocating Nigeria's disintegration (because Nigeria problems can easily be solved by restructuring to a more loose federation with a weaker centre than the current one, make the presidency unattractive and less bullying), with realities on ground, you can't achieve it without some sort of understanding with others.
Anyone talking about secession is deceiving himself. No group can secede! Nigeria can only crumble and when it does, then new countries will emerge.
PoliticsRe: Will Nigeria Break Up By 2015? by Obiagu1(m):
I will never allow myself to be fooled. Let appeasers talk whatever they want all in the name of building bridges even if it means lying against your people and turning logic upside down; bridges to where if I may ask? Until people understand who they are dealing with, they will forever be used as a means to an end. Minority domination over the majority is the new game!

By 2014, some people will understand why I resisted GEJ's administration during the elections. The question will be, what was his presidency all about and where did it leave us, the Igbos.

Any talk of SE/SS is a farce and that union could only happen if forced on us by the world because everyone of them dream to be like Qatar and the UAE. Well, that's still a dream because there's still Animal Farm hovering over their heads.
So trying to appease is unnecessary and insulting to fellow Igbos. When we are forced into a union with anyone by the UN in any post Nigeria scenario, then we can talk how thinks will be best for everyone. If we are not forced into any union with anyone, all your talk is useless because you're talking to people with special dislike of you and see you as a parasite.

Again read this:

Dede1: I am of the view you are better than this disingenuous and despicable display on the thread. After the unsuccessful July 29, 1966 coup, due to the fact eastern region was no-go area for Gowon and northern soldiers, Nigeria (which include northern, western and mid-western regions) and Gowon decided to invade eastern region. In fact, with urging of David Ejoor, Gowon relocated LGO under Adekunle to Escravos to be bloated into a brigade or possible a division. It was at Escravos, Mid-western region that less than a battalion LGO was built into a brigade with young men from Yoruba, Edo, Itsekiri, Urhobo, Eshan and Isoko. Also, David Ejoor procured some of the sea-landing crafts LGO needed to launch amphibious operation on Ubani (Bonny) in eastern region of July 16, 1967. By the time Bonny was captured on July 26, 1967, LGO has grown into a full division with designated name of 3rd division.

I do believe you are intelligent enough to discern that July is a month ahead of August. Since Nigeria, including Mid-western region, had been attacking eastern region from July 6, 1967, a person wonders what instigated you to deduce that Biafra punitively launched a military attack against a country such as Republic of Mid-western Region.

As matter of fact, Biafra would have launched military attack on Nigeria through mid-western region earlier than August 8, 1967 when it did. I guess in your neck of wood, they count the months of year from December to January that is reason you thought Biafra first initiated attack through mid-western region.
