In 2006, the then governor of Anambra State from Uli, Mbadinuju with traditional rulers from most of Anambra south agreed upon Njaba state with the then gov of Imo state, Udenwa and traditional rulers from Orlu senatorial district.
Ohaneze Nd'Igbo then led by Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, adopted Njaba and took it to the NASS to be created as 6th state in the southeast area. Not much has changed since then.

Ebonyi was carved out from enugu and Abia state and by extension from old Anambra (Enugu) and old Imo (Abia)

The initial states were Anambra and imo created by murtala regime in 1976, then in 1991 babangida administration splits the two stats into two Anambra became Anambra and Enugu while imo became imo and Abia.

In 1996 abacha in a bid to achieve equity created Ebonyi out of enugu (old Anambra) and Abia (old Imo) , so I don't know how you came with Ebonyi being carved from enugu and old Anambra.

Imo state was not disadvantaged in any way

That is not how to judge the economy of a city,. The number of two to three story buildings springing up in enugu monthly can not be seen in Ibadan,Uyo and Warri in six months.

There also doesn't seem to be any wide consultation and broad consensus around the movement. The initiators of the movement, driven ENTIRELY by their own obsessive, selfish motives, seem to have arrogated to themselves, the privilege of representing the interests of other groups that they hope to annex to their new state which they have not adequately consulted (or even made any serious contact with). The arrogance alone of that is off-putting to many of those groups which is why every Anambra community so far included in the Orlu state has been either vehemently opposed or categorically stated that they haven't been part of any serious discourse and two Federal House of Reps members from Anambra have denounced the lack of any consultation. Some Ogbakor groups in Imo as well have similarly rejected being part of such a state - most amusing being the oil-producing communities in the Orlu zone which have claimed to have been marginalized by the same communities who claim they're marginalized by the Owerri cabal.

But what I still want to understand is how a zone which has produced the governor of the state for what would be 23 out of the last 27 years (when Uzodinma's 2nd term concludes) keeps talking about marginalization. I admit I don't fully understand, so maybe someone here can educate me.

Kepukepu is in charge of Abia development page on Facebook while Anambra first son is in charge of that of Anambra state and they are projecting their states in positive way and that is why I know what is happening in Abia than enugu.
