Segun Kehinde’s outward appearance can be deceptive. Under his genteel posture lies a criminal soul. At age 24, he and his late friend of his, Saheed Babalola have committed what could rightly described as abomination against God and His household. The two young men specialized in robbing churches and mosques.

While being paraded recently, Kehinde revealed that since 2003, he and his late friend had embraced the business of breaking into churches and mosques. Their target, he told whoever cares to listen, were generators, fans and other electrical appliances in the House of God.

It was a hobby the duo was committed to until Babalola was caught in the act six months ago. His death could not serve as a lesson to Kehinde. Rather as someone bounded by a blood covenant, he carried on the baton of robbing God’s abode.
Recently, the long arm of the law caught up with Kehinde and his three accomplices, among who was a popular Ibadan-based fuji musician. They were paraded with 14 generating sets of different sizes and two giant standing fans.
Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Baba Adisa Bolanta, told newsmen that Kehinde was arrested by his men at Yemetu Division, Ibadan.

“He was arrested by our men at Yemetu Division. He specializes in breaking into churches. He knows the time when nobody will be in the church, especially by midday. He will go in there, remove the generator and other church facilities like fans and later dispose them off.
“He has stolen about 14 generators from different churches. And he has ready market for the stolen goods. These are some of the receivers. He used to sell off the generators at give away prices like N6, 000. You can see the inscriptions of some of the churches on the generators. This one belongs to Voice of Christ Universal Church, Oke-Oluwa.”

Kehinde corroborated Bolanta’s disclosure as he confirmed that he has been in the business since 2003 when he met an old schoolmate. A drop-out, he said he learnt about carpentry and furniture-making but he opted out after he fell from a roof top of a newly constructed building. He confessed to Daily Sun:
“I am 24 years old. I am from Atipe area of Ibadan. I actually trained as a furniture-maker. I fell from a building while participating in the roofing exercise. I was injured in one of my hands and decided to quit.

“I later met a former schoolmate at Holy Trinity Grammar School, Saheed Babalola, by name and jointly formed a gang. I dropped out at JSSC3.
“I can ride motorcycle while Saheed claimed that he was repairing generators. Occasionally, he would call me to help him take generators from churches. Saheed always tipped me with N2, 000 after each operation. Later, I got to know that the generators were not meant for repair as Saheed would want me to believe.
“I sat him down one day and told him about my observation. He confessed to me that he was stealing the generators. It was from there we formed alliance and started operating together.

“Later, Saheed was killed. He went to steal a generator at Amuloko area when he was caught and killed. After Saheed’s death, armed robbers also robbed me of my motorcycle at Gate Bus-Stop area. That was last year. It was then I decided to commence the operation.
“It is about six months now that I started stealing generators. I stole all the generators here. But there were some I have sold out. I don’t operate on daily basis but so far, I have stolen not less than 18 generators from churches.

“I know my accomplice through social interactions. I will just be chatting with them and in the course of our conversation, I will tell them I have somebody who wanted to dispose a generator and they will tell me to bring the generator for them to see.”
He disclosed that he was not caught in the act like his late friend but was arrested at his rented apartment by police detectives:
“I was in my house when the police came for me. They cane around 4a.m. I was still sleeping beside my new wife.

They came for me a day after our wedding introduction. I was contemplating of starting my real work and stop stealing so that my wife will not know I was into stealing when the police come for me that date.
“We have not even woken up to thank our neighbours and relatives for attending our wedding introduction the previous day when the police came for me.”
The three accomplices paraded along with him confessed to have either bought generators from him at give-away prices or facilitated the sales to other interested parties. They nonetheless denied any knowledge that the generators were stolen.
According to the musician, who was sweating like a ram at the slaughter slab during the parade, his undoing was his decision to buy a generator from the devil’s incarnate.

His words: “I knew him about two weeks ago. He told me he repaired generators. One day, we were doing carnival when our generator packed up. He then came to us and assisted us with another generator.
“In the morning, he told me that the owner of the generator wanted to dispose it and inquired whether I was interested in buying it. We negotiated and I gave him money. That was my undoing.”
The Commissioner of Police said the four culprits would be made to face the law immediately investigations into their cases were concluded.

He stated that the situation in Anambra State at the moment, especially the poor state of infrastructure and the economy requires urgent action that would practically address the myriads of problems that have held the state down since its creation.
“Anambra has remained backward largely due to bad leadership and lack of focus by its leaders and this has made Awka, the state capital to remain a glorified village for too long.” He lamented that the commercial city of Onitsha with the largest market in Africa has been deserted owing to dearth of infrastructure, insecurity and poor economy.

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, yesterday expressed his wish for the adoption of Option A4 in the conduct of February 6 election.
Soludo, who was reacting to questions from reporters at the PDP National Secretariat on his level of preparedness for the coming poll, said the method would enable people to determine the clear winner without much delay.

He said: “I think we are getting set. It is not over until it is over. Preparations are in top gear and I think the campaign has gained a lot of momentum. All the opinion polls that have been released so far indicate that we are far ahead of the crowd and one is fairly optimistic that if the election if free and fair, we will have a resounding victory at the poll.

“We are praying for free, fair and credible election. For me personally, I would have preferred option A4 for the purpose of this election so that it becomes loud and clear who has won and who has lost. I’m ready and set and I believe that come next week, Anambra people will vote for me.

Meanwhile, Senate President David Mark, Federal House of Representatives Speaker Dimeji Bankole, 28 PDP governors and other party officials and members across all levels are expected to gather in Onitsha, Anambra State tomorrow for a grand rally in honour of its gubernatorial candidate, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo.

A statement by PDP National Publicity Secretary, Prof. Rufai Ahmed Alkali, called on all members of the party to grace the rally for a new Anambra State.

Sgt Rogers crippled in car crash

Leading member of the Abacha-era Strike Force Sergeant Barnabas Jabila, alias Sergeant Rogers, has been crippled from the waist down and has just been discharged from the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Gwagwalada after a vehicle incident that occurred along the Jos-Abuja highway last November, Daily Trust learnt yesterday.
Sergeant Rogers, who is a principal witness in the ongoing trial of Major Hamza Almustapha and four others for the 1996 murder of Alhaja Kudirat Abiola, suffered head and spinal cord injuries in the accident.

There were contradictory accounts of the incident. While sources told Daily Trust that Rogers’ car was rammed by another car along the Jos highway and it somersaulted, his brother told our reporters yesterday that a mechanic who worked on Jabila’s vehicle before the accident failed to tighten the bolts of the back tyre. He said, “While he was on motion within Abuja, the back tyre pulled out and the car somersaulted and crashed in November 2009.” Although Jabila was in hospital for some weeks, family members managed to keep it a secret, until yesterday.

There were also conflicting reports on the severity of Jabila’s injuries. Hospital sources said he suffered serious spinal injuries and is now paralysed from the waist down, but his brother said the family has concluded plans to take Rogers to another hospital to undergo a CT scan because of the pains he complains about in his shoulder region. According to him, the consultant handling his case discharged him yesterday so that he can recover fully at home.

At the accident/ emergency ward unit of the hospital yesterday morning, plain-clothes military intelligence officials carrying guns were seen providing security in the ward where the accident victim was and only close family relations were allowed to see him after going through strict clearance.

From a distance, our reporter sighted Jabila lying down on a hospital bed inside the ward and a nurse said that medical officials in the ward had earlier been warned by intelligence officers not to allow people to go near him or reveal his identity.

Chief Medical Director of the hospital Dr Peter Alabi expressed surprise to learn from our reporters that Rogers was admitted in the hospital. He made several phone calls before confirming Jabila’s admission in the hospital.

The chief medical director declined further questions, while other hospital officials said the accident victim had declared his intention earlier not to speak to anybody outside his immediate family members.

Determined to actualise his re-election ambition in 2011, the Bauchi State governor, Isa Yuguda, has dismantled his cabinet of commissioners and redesignated them as special advisers, just as he approved the appointment of about 1,000 personal aides who were mostly politicians that would work for him to achieve his political aim.

The deputy governor, Babayo Gamawa, is now the Commissioner for Land and Survey.

The affected commissioners, according to a press release from the Governor’s Office, were Salisu Ningi of Youth and Sports Ministry, who is now in charge of the tourism sector as special adviser; Mr Samaila Tella of Ministry of Health, who is now the special adviser, technical and Dahiru Garba of the Cooperative and Poverty Alleviation Ministry, who is now the special adviser, Finance and Hajj Affairs.


Other commissioners affected were, Mohammed Lago, Dr Altine Bello, among others.

US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton has blamed failings by Nigerian leaders for increasing "radicalisation" among young Nigerians.

She pointed to poor living standards and "unbelievable" corruption.


Why can't people just talk about the point raised in the first paragraph which is 100% true about Nigeria, we are so used to chasing shadows in this country.

I married for the second time in June of 2003. I am 46 and my wife is 37. She has a 4 year old son with a man that has little to do with the boy. There was also a call to a male "friend" about the same time. Neither of these calls was over 2 minutes. I confronted her over these calls and she ended up going back to her Mom's for about 10 days.

We eventually worked things out and she stopped calling her ex. so often. However, from November-January, the calls started getting heavy again. Finally, I told her that she needed to cease contact with her ex. unless it was child-related. She agreed to do so and has kept her word(as far as I know).

I have always suspected that she had slept with her ex. and it had been eating at me for the past year and a half. This past Sunday night, right after the Super Bowl, she finally admitted to me that she did sleep with him two months into our marriage while she was staying at her Mom's. I had been preparing myself for this revelation but the shock, anger, and hurt were still overwhelming. The images of my wife sucking his d*ck and having his d*ck inside her haunt me every waking moment. She says it was just this one time but I have my strong doubts.

My first impulse was to divorce her and forget about her. What kind of woman would have an affair 2 months into a marriage? The problem is this; she is truly remorseful and is willing to do anything to save our marriage. I am 100% certain that their affair is over and that she loves me with all her heart now. And even though I hate her right now and don't know if I want to stay married to her, I really do love her.

It's always amusing how people jump on the "down with landlords" bandwagon forgetting that they might be landlords someday.Collecting 3-5 years rent ahead of time is suffocating on tenants (i'm a tenant myself so i know what's up) but there are some tenants that make life a living hell for landlords.For example, both my parents are deceased and i'm managing the properties they left behind.As i type this, i have three Igbo guys in court for not paying up.One of them hasn't even paid a dime for 4 years and counting.I didn't even increase his house rent or anything of the sort (imagine someone still paying N65,000 for a 2-bedroom flat in Lagos of all places).The Nigerian court system is ineffective.Endless adjournments upon adjournments.Even your own lawyer doesn't want the case to end so that he can continue to extort you endlessly.This is one of the reasons why landlords demand huge amounts upfront to that they can start dealing with you early on before you become a terrorist in their property.You cannot compare Nigeria with UK or America where the legal system is straight forward and justice is meted out without delay.How many of you guys leaving abroad can dare owe the landlord 3-6 months rent? You all know what will happen.Dat one na no long tings. Try the same system in Nigeria and you'll see someone paying 3 months rent and living the next eight years free in your house due to endless court proceedings that lead to no where.

Something tells me, this is another tales by moonlight. How can a sane man live in your house for 4 years without paying rent? Greater part of this write up is exaggerated!.
