When married couples live like brother and sister. No sex for years and they insist they are happy. Are they deluded - or just honest? Read and tell us what you think...

Most evenings, with their little girl safely tucked up in bed, Charlotte and Chris Everiss (pictured right) enjoy a kiss and a cuddle on the sofa in front of the television.

Happily married for a decade, the couple cannot bear to even imagine their lives without one another. Yet, astonishingly, they haven’t made love for more than two years.

Both insist that their marriage, which followed a two-year courtship after meeting on a dating website, is stronger than most. It’s just that sex, they say, is not important to their happiness.



‘We still turn each other on but we don’t want to take it any further,’ says Charlotte. ‘We don’t have the time or the energy.

‘I find it hard switching off knowing that our four-year-old, Addison, is in the next bedroom. I think if Chris really missed sex he would tell me, or I’d catch him watching porn on the internet as a substitute.

‘But he doesn’t seem to want to go back to having sex, either.
‘We sound like Darby and Joan, I know - even though I’m only 34 and Chris is 40 - but that, to us, is contentment.'

Charlotte and Chris, it seems, aren’t the only ones whose sex life has dwindled to nothing. A recent survey estimated that 15 to 20 per cent of couples have sexless relationships - defined by experts as making love fewer than ten times a year - while around 5 per cent go without altogether.

Actress Helen Mirren spoke for many of these couples earlier this year when she said: ‘I think the power of partnership in marriage is under-recognised in our society. That’s what makes marriages work, not sex.’


In a sex-obsessed society, where everyone - young, old, male and female - seems to be boasting of how many times a week they ‘do it’, it may come as a relief to many that couples like Charlotte and Chris are happy to admit that sex plays no part in their marriages at all.

Most couples who find themselves at a point where sexual intimacy has died tend to confide their predicament to no one at all. But today three brave couples reveal to Femail how they have learned to live contented lives without sex.

You don’t need a degree in psychology to work out why Charlotte, a social media consultant from Great Wyrley, Staffordshire - who in the early years of her marriage made love to her husband three times a week - may have problems surrounding sex.

Three years ago, when their daughter was 18 months old, Charlotte almost died after an ectopic pregnancy resulted in her having a partial hysterectomy during a six-hour operation. Since then, she and Chris have made love only once, around ten months after her loss, an encounter from which she derived no pleasure.

Chris is understanding about her aversion to sex. ‘It can be hard knowing that our cuddles will never lead to anything more intimate,’ he says. ‘Charlotte is a gorgeous woman and I’m still very attracted to her, but she nearly died and I count my blessings every day that she’s even still here.’

‘I have an hour-long commute at either end of my working day so, to be honest, most of the time I’m too tired for sex anyway.’

Chris, a digital marketing manager, says he doesn’t discuss with friends the absence of sex from his marriage, but believes it is more common than people admit.
‘I don’t know that we’re all that different from other couples, we’re just more open about it,’ he says.

In all other respects, the Everisses have an enviable lifestyle. They live in a beautiful, four-bedroom detached home, have a Mini Cooper convertible and a VW Golf parked on the driveway, and enjoy several foreign holidays a year.

Tracey Dowler, 42, (pictured above with husband) spent several months worrying that husband Julian, 55, didn’t want to make love to her because he was attracted to other women. But she has now accepted that the stress of his demanding job as director of a motor mechanical and haulage company is the reason they no longer have sex.

And, while she admits there have been times when she has felt like walking out of their immaculate, three-bedroom semi-detached home in Rugby, Warwickshire, over the lack of intimacy, Tracey values other aspects of their marriage too highly.

‘We got married in 2007 after only knowing each other for six months, so it was pretty whirlwind,’ says Tracey, a wedding fair organiser. ‘When we were dating, we’d have sex up to three times a night, which was wonderful, but after the wedding we only made love once or twice a week. We started going months between encounters and now we haven’t made love for well over a year.’

Tracey still feels very attracted to her husband, and he says the same of her. The couple are loving in other ways, holding hands when they go out together, kissing one another goodnight before going to sleep and saying “I love you” at the end of telephone conversations.

But Julian has 40 employees under him and says his job has become far more demanding in the years since their wedding. He gets up at 4am to start work at 5am, puts in a 12-hour day and, as he is on 24-hour call, his phone often rings several times during the night with drivers needing advice.
Weekends are no more relaxing as Julian also runs a photography business, which he is hoping will take off enough for him to concentrate on it full time.

They are both keen to have a family together. They’ve had IVF and plan to have another round of it in August.

‘We talk about rekindling our love life but never seem to get around to it,’ says Julian. ‘We had a weekend away at a country hotel a couple of weeks ago and I was so exhausted I spent most of the time asleep.’

Julian regards Tracey as his best friend and soulmate - a fact common, it seems, to many couples enduring sexless marriages - and believes that once he retires they will be able to rekindle some semblance of romance.


Once a couple gets out of the habit of having sex, however, this can be easier said than done.
‘Couples who don’t make love start living like brother and sister or friends and get out of the habit of seeing one another in a sexual way,’ says Relate counsellor Paula Hall.

‘If both partners want to reintroduce sex, we encourage them to do so slowly, learning how to be sensual with each other and gradually building up to intercourse

Twin #1, Tashina Ackley gave birth to a baby daughter while Twin #2, Erica gave birth to a son.

The Eastport Maine-based twin sisters delivered their babies at Down East Community Hospital in Machias, Maine.

This is the first set of babies for the identical twin sisters.

A teen raped his mother for revenge, according to police....

Police said a Marshall County, Alabama teen raped his mother for revenge after an altercation with his brother.

Police said 19-year-old Gary Helms, Jr., raped his 45-year-old mother at the trailer park in Willow Terrace Doyle Drive in Albertville. It is a twisted crime that police said Helms admits.

"From what I understand the rape stemmed from an argument between him and his brother. And apparently they were arguing over a girlfriend. And the rape was some sort of revenge against his brother," Sgt. Jamie Smith of the Albertville Police Department said. It was an unusual retaliation on an innocent victim.

Authorities said Helms' mother was apparently passed out drunk on the couch when the rape started. "During the attack she has come to recognize the assailant was her son," Smith said. That's when, according to the police report, the mother "tried to escape, but she was held down until the act was completed." "It's totally sick is what it is," Smith said.

Helms was arrested and charged with the 1st degree rape of his own mother. Smith says it's hard to wrap the mind around this. "Shocked, very shocked would be a better way to describe it. That someone would do something of this nature. It's a shock to the conscience of the general public," Smith said.

Helms is being held in the Marshall County Jail on bail of $100,000.

AN HIV positive woman from Kezi in Matabeleland South province committed suicide at a local hospital where she was admitted, police have confirmed...


Matabeleland South police spokesman, Assistant Inspector Christopher Ngwenya, said 29 year-old Jennifer Ncube from Sun Yet Sen area had been admitted at Tshelanyemba Hospital after her condition deteriorated.

"We received a report about a woman Jennifer Ncube who went for HIV testing at Tshelanyemba Hospital and came out positive. She was instructed to report on a daily basis for counselling while taking drugs," said Assistant Inspector Christopher Ngwenya.

He said hospital authorities however admitted Ncube on May 14 after noticing that her condition had deteriorated. On May 18, a night duty nurse is said to have attended to her around 4am but she was then found to be missing during a patients' roll call about an hour later.

Her body was found hanging from a tree behind hospital the following day by a 15- year-old herdboy, Ngwenya said. Police said people should seek counselling from community leaders instead of taking their own lives when facing challenging life situations.

It led to an incredibly short starter marriage. Once she realized that she and her new husband had absolutely zero sexual chemistry, she counted down the days until she could get a divorce, which happened six months into their marriage. Here are five reasons to get rid of that purity pledge and do the dirty before you say “I do.”
Sexual chemistry.
Jessica Ciencin Henriquez, who kept her “purity” until her wedding night, writes in Salon:
“Our bodies wanted different things from one another, so what we ended up with was a horizontal battle. I would hear married girlfriends talk about the joys of make-up sex and continue to sip my coffee in silence. We would fight, and then have bad sex and then fight some more. Not everyone is great in bed, and most people don’t start out very good at all. A lot of good sex is about listening to your partner and being able to respond accordingly. But how do you know if someone is a good listener or responder unless you try it first?
Size.
Don’t you want to know if your husband is packing a hunting rifle or a tiny little plastic kid’s pistol? After all, he knows how big your boobs are. I’m not saying size would be a dealbreaker, but don’t you have the right to know what’s down there?
Sexual issues.
Sexual problems like premature ejaculation, inability to get an erection, or even an allergy to your partner’s semen are all possibilities, wouldn’t you rather deal with those issues before you’re married? This way you know if your future is even going to address them.

Lots of your colleagues are always in one scandal or the other but you are not. How do you avoid scandals?
Nobody is perfect and nobody is above mistake. Sometimes it may not be the fault of those you see today enmeshed in one scandal or the other. We don’t need to condemn them. We are not above scandals too. We only pray to God to see us through all our decisions.
P-Square have made themselves differentiable. How can we differentiate you two?
You don’t need to. Anytime I wake up and I see my beautiful sister, and I realise that is exactly how I look, I thank God for making me as beautiful. We do not want people to even know the difference. Maybe if you are close enough to us, you will know the difference.
How are you coping with fame?
We were popular even as children. You know that twins are easy to spot, and as twins we have enjoyed a little bit of attention from a very young age. Today the thing is hyper. You will see some people who just jump on you from nowhere, and we will be dumbfounded. Some will come close to us and even kiss us. But we still try to be ourselves. We know where we are coming from. We once roasted plantain by the road side so we remain down to earth.
How did you know you could act?
When we were small, we used to act in church dramas. Then later, we started getting little roles.
How difficult or easy was it for you to attain stardom?
It definitely wasn’t easy. If you are watching Ini Edo and Genevieve and you think it is easy to be where they are, then you must be joking. But if you are ready to work hard then the sky will be your limit. The industry is so wide and it can accommodate anybody who has the necessary attributes. Everyone have their own special talent, and everyone their own time. When your time comes, it would be difficult for anyone to bring you down. So in essence, we don’t see those in the industry as challenges or rivals. Some may be bigger than us today and tomorrow, we could be bigger than them. All we have achieved is by the grace of God. Whatever we want to do, we leave to God. Once God is involved, He finds a way for us. God will not give us a vision without backing it. Also we knew we had the talent for it and we developed that talent.
Is there any major sacrifice you made to become stars?
That will be when we left school for acting. Our mum was not happy with it. She said that we can do whatever we wanted as long as we finished school, so we had to retrace our steps and we are better off for it today. But back then, we felt we had to concentrate fully on Nollywood to become successful.
You produce movies, and producers do complain about piracy. Is it affecting you too?
Yes, piracy is always the number one problem. We need the government to help us fight piracy. It is these 10-in-one CDs that are the problem. You will see a DVD for N150, and it has 10 movies in it. How can we sell the original which is N250? We really need the government to help us fight piracy.
Identical twins are known to play tricks on people who can’t identify them. Do you do so too?
We did that a lot when we were younger. And even when one of us was reported for doing something wrong, we both took the blame and we both got punished.
Who are your boyfriends?
We are fine, God is our love life. Nobody has ever told me I love you and I said I love you too. We don’t have boyfriends. They may be distractions sometimes. We are okay for now; we are concentrating on our work.
But you are not getting younger. Don’t you want to get married?
We are willing to get married but we are not ready to rush into marriage. If we rush in, we will rush out. We will wait for our own time. We were brought up to take the marriage institution very seriously. Our parents were together till our father passed on and my mother never remarried. It was till death do us part. So when we are getting married, you surely will know.
Will you say your being identical twins is contributing to your success?
All is by the grace of God. I agree that twins are a blessing from God so God’s favour is always on us. I am sure that even P-Square will tell you that they also had God’s guidance to get them to where they are now.

It may not be asking for too much if Dangote is urged to conduct a DNA test and make the result public. This writer will not be surprised at all if the DNA result shows that somewhere in the past, one of his forebears may have been Igbo. T. B. Joshua is a Nigerian pastor and televangelist. He is also a self-styled prophet. This weekend in Ghana four people were killed and a further 30 were injured in a stampede at one of his services....


The stampede occurred when the excited crowd rushed forward for the church’s signature 'holy water' which is believed to cure ailments as well as offer relief from all manner of ills; from business problems to interpersonal issues.
We take a closer look at Temitope Balogun Joshua the charismatic leader of The Synagogue, Church of All Nations (SCOAN).


He has amassed a massive fortune
According to a BBC report in September 2012 Joshua is thought to be worth in the region of $10 - 15 million. The same number was quoted by Forbes when they compiled a list of the wealthiest pastors in Nigeria. The source of this income is unconfirmed, but with several products for sale through SCOAN it is fair to say that the pastor is doing well.

He has several high profile fans
Several world leaders have visited the prophet. In their 50 most influential Africans feature, the BBC reported 'Ghana's President John Atta Mills, Zimbabwe's prime minister Morgan Tsvangirai and Nigeria's first lady Patience Jonathan are just a few of the political heavyweights who have patronised his church'. Nelson Mandela’s ex-wife and high-profile struggle veteran Winnie Madikizela-Mandela is also known to have visited the pastor.


He claims to be a prophet
Joshua claims to be able to predict the future. This 'gift' extends from minor predictions such as football results, to his (now debunked) prediction that Boko Haram would be history by 2012. The most famous of Joshua’s predictions came in February 2012 when he predicted that an elderly African leader would soon pass away. Later he narrowed it down, by saying the leader was not in West Africa. In April Malawi President Bingu wa Mutharika suddenly passed away, and the internet exploded with followers of the Nigerian prophet claiming it was evidence of his status as a prophet. Naysayers claimed it was a coincidence or clever use of the Forer effect (a technique used by con artist that gets people to fill in the missing details of a vague statement without realising it); while others went even further and hinted that there may have been a political conspiracy at play.


His Anointing Water
The Anointing Water, now in its third manifestation, is believed by the SCOAN faithful to cure all manner of ills - from the physical to the spiritual. The latest version of the water claims to be 'The Blood of Christ' on the bottle. It is this water which caused the stampede in Accra which resulted in the deaths of four people. A post on the official TB Joshua Ministries Facebook page on 16 May 2013 read: “Right now we are seeing a testimony on Emmanuel TV of Mr. Echu, a man who came to The SCOAN with the incurable disease of HIV/AIDS. After receiving prayer at The SCOAN he received his healing and went back to the same hospital where he had gotten his positive medical report and after testing his blood, it came out negative to HIV/AIDS.” Much of the church’s literature and activity online is made up of testimonials about the effectiveness of the water in curing diseases and ailments.


His Ministry is international
He has millions of followers worldwide, with branches in Nigeria, London, South Africa, Greece and Ghana. The popularity of the church in these far-flung locations is most likely a result of the spread of the large Nigerian and Ghanaian diaspora worldwide. The next international branch will likely be in the United States, although if that is the case Joshua should be prepared to face tough competition from home-grown televangelists.


He has vociferous critics
Joshua has gained the ire of a vocal minority. Some of his critics are other charismatic pastors who are in direct competition with him. Yet others have no competitive motivation for their critique, but find they are compelled to point out the inconsistencies in his prophecies and conduct. One such critic is the author of the blog TB Joshua watch, who claims, 'We’re not writing to mock a self-proclaimed prophet whose “prophecies” really don’t stand up to scrutiny. No, we’re writing because we’re angry. We’re angry that someone representing Christianity is using a tragedy for self-promotion. We’re angry that what he claims was a prophecy was useless for anything except giving him bragging rights.' The site's 'about' section claims the motivation for the blog is, 'to critically examine the ministry of Nigerian mega-pastor TB Joshua and attempt to separate truth from lies. “ The site then goes on to mention testimony from former church members who make claims of cult-like behaviour and also reference abuses committed by the church.


He has a television station
What’s a televangelist without his own TV station? The television station Emmanuel TV has its headquarters in Lagos and the channel broadcasts 24/7. Established in 2006, the channel now broadcasts church services as well as programming about the church’s charitable activities and youth and children's programming.

It could spell an end to laundry days – or at least make them a much less frequent chore. Manufacturers claim they have invented a shirt that stays clean even after 100 days of wear..


The garment resists odour so effectively that it even smells fresh after being worn during rigorous exercise, its makers claim. It is also said to need no ironing because it is made of wrinkle-free material that can withstand even the roughest of treatment.

American company Wool & Prince said they developed the shirt for men who hate having to wash their clothes so often.

They sent researchers around the world wearing the shirts doing everything from backpacking in the Andes to dancing in sweaty New York nightclubs to test their design.

The shirts are made of wool which lasts six times longer than cotton. Laboratory tests have shown that wool fibres resist tearing and can bend back on themselves more than 20,000 times without breaking. Cotton breaks after 3,200 bends.

Wool is also highly resilient to wrinkles because it has a natural crimp.

And the company said that while sweat itself has no odour, it creates an unpleasant smell when it remains on the skin and bacteria develop, but wool reduces this because it is more efficient than other textiles at absorbing sweat and evaporating it into the air.

The company has spent six months developing its trade-marked Cotton-Soft wool fabric for the shirts.

A spokesman said: "We use the finest wool shirting yarn out there-usually reserved for the luxury fashion industry. Our fabric will redefine what you think of wool."

A Chinese man who was abducted as a child about 23 years ago said he was able to find his family with the help of Google Maps...

Luo Gang said he was abducted at age 5 near his school and raised by adoptive parents in Sanming, Fujian province — and all he could remember about his hometown was that it had two bridges, The Daily Telegraph, Britain, reported Friday.
Luo said he posted about his desire to find his biological parents on a Chinese website aimed at reuniting families with missing children, and a contributor replied with information about a Sichuan province couple who lost their son 23 years ago.
Luo said he used Google Maps to research the possibility and found the two bridges he remembered from his youth in Sichuan’s Linshui county.
Luo said he was overjoyed to be reunited with his parents, Huang Qingyong and Dai Jianfang, who had since adopted a daughter.
The parents told Leo of his original name, Huang Jun.
“I felt heartbroken. I couldn’t eat or sleep and I cried every day thinking my son was missing and didn’t have enough food or clothes out there,” Dai said of her son’s disappearance.

Thirty one persons were killed in Imo State when a tree fell on them. The incident happened at the Ukwu Uko evening market at Umuejinwaoke Umudagu Village, Mbieri, Mbaitolu Local Government Area of Imo...

About 16 others sustained various injuries during the incident, which was caused by rainstorm on Thursday night.

A resident of the community, Nnaemeka Emenyonu, said that the tree fell on the affected persons around 8:00 p.m. He said the tree also destroyed the Village Hall.

“The big tree fell suddenly on 31 people, who died at the spot and injured 16 others. Those injured were taken to hospital.

“The victims include two sisters, who sell tomatoes. Honestly, this is a saddest event in the history of our community,” he said.

The traditional ruler of the community, Godwin Duru, lamented that such a tragic incident had never occurred in the community.

“I do not know what to say. God, what can we call this? My people were destroyed within a twinkle of an eye. What a pity,” he said.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Joy Elemoko, declined comment on the incident after several efforts to get the command’s reaction to the issue.

A homosexual group known as The Right Defense has expressed its displeasure over the unfair treatment meted out on gay people in Nigeria saying it is a violation of their fundamental human rights...
In a statement released by the group on Tuesday in Ibadan, Oyo... state after a meeting of its members, the group said they have been harassed and humiliated in many parts of the country.
“Everyone should have the liberty to life and choice of living as endorsed by the United Nations on universal declaration for freedom of expression and choice for all nationalities,” the group reportedly said.
The statement went further to state a few instances when homosexuals have been victimised in the country saying, “Amongst many others was the case of Mr I.O. Ibrahim, whose home and family were attacked and raided by unidentified security agents, thugs and still declared wanted by the agents some months ago. He is currently living in abroad and
struggling for human rights and egalitarian society globally.”
The group also condemned “the dastardly act perpetrated by group of youths who molested and intimidated four Nigerians in Ekwe village of Njaba LGA, Imo State.”
They were attacked, stripped and paraded across the cities over accusation of indecent practices- homosexuality.

The Entertainment Industry Foundation's Revlon Run/Walk for Women on Saturday drew cancer survivors as well as those honoring the memories of loved ones.

The event, which kicked off in 1994, took place at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum at Exposition Park, where more than 30,000 people were expected to hit the pavement.

The EIF Revlon Run/Walk events in Los Angeles and New York have raised over $65 million over the years to support research, deliver treatment services for medically underserved women and provide support to women facing cancer and their loved ones.

Mourners at a funeral in Zimbabwe were stunned when the dead man woke up as they filed by his coffin, state media reported today....

Brighton Dama Zanthe, 34, was being laid to rest inside a coffin last Monday after he apparently died at his home following a long illness.

The transport worker's grieving family covered his body with blankets and made arrangements to transfer him to a local mortuary, according to a report in the Herald newspaper.

But the next day Mr Zanthe's friends and relatives scattered in disbelief when he started moving as they filed past to say their emotional goodbyes.

The dead man's boss Lot Gaka told the Herald of the moment he realised his employee was still alive.

He said: 'I was the first to notice Zanthe's moving legs as I was in the queue to view his body. This shocked me.

'At first I could not believe my eyes but later realised that there was indeed some movements on the body as other mourners retreated in disbelief.'

Mr Gaka, who runs a bus company in the midlands city of Gweru, told the newspaper Mr Zanthe had been persistently unwell before his 'death' last week.

He told how he visited the family's home to offer support when his employee's wife called to say he had passed away.

He said: 'Zanthe had been on sick leave for some time and everyone at work was aware that he was critical.

'We would visit him at his home.

'I was not surprised when I received a call from Zanthe's wife on Monday night last week saying that her husband had died.'

He added: 'I visited two local funeral parlours for quotations before I drove to Zanthe's house so that we could take the body to the mortuary.

'Zanthe's body had already been put in a coffin and people were preparing to conduct a body viewing procession so that his body could be taken to a mortuary.

'It was during the body viewing procession that he "resurrected".'

Another witness told the state-controlled newspaper how the family desperately pulled blankets off Mr Zanthe's body to try to revive him after realising he was still alive.

He said: 'Gaka later removed some blankets from Zanthe's body after we noticed some movements and this was when we all realised that there was still life.

'We then called an ambulance which came within seven minutes.

'It's really a miracle and most people are still in disbelief.'

The Herald, which is owned by Zimbabwe's government, reported that Mr Zanthe spent two days on life support after being rushed to the Gweru Provincial Hospital following the incident.

He was discharged last week and has since returned home.

The shaken family man told the newspaper he had only a hazy recollection of the event.

He said: 'This issue can be best told by people who came to my house to attend my funeral.

'I don't know what happened and I only remember being on a life support system in hospital.'

He added: 'Everything is history to me.

'What I can only confirm is that people gathered at my house to mourn but I was given another chance and I am alive. I feel okay now.'
