Ngwakwe: Who told you Churches use collective cup for Communion nowadays?

Apart from the differences in emblems, why should Government allow soft drink and snacks and jump to ban holy Communion?
Am suprised you are asking this question ask any Anglican,
The Anglican Church uses a handkerchief to clean the cup after each member susps
The Catholic church dips the bread in thesame cup the list goes on and on
PoliticsEBOLA:Why FG's Ban on Holy Communion is now a Necessity by ochejoseph(op):
Notice :This piece is without prejudice to the provisions of section 31 subsection 1 of the 1999 constitution as amended which provides for the freedom of thought,
conscience and religion.

SUSPENSION OF HOLY COMMUNION IN CHURCHES

Holy Communion is one of the most spiritual practices in the Christiandom, Our Lord Jesus Christ in 1 Corinthians 11 verse 25 Urged us to do it often In remembrance of him .

Scriptures also admonished us not to partake of the Holy communion if we examine our selves and find ourselves unworthy of partaking in that spiritual exercise.

1 Corinthians 11:27-28 New International Version
(NIV)

So then, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup
of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of
sinning against the body and blood of the Lord.
Everyone ought to examine themselves before they
eat of the bread and drink from the cup. For those
who eat and drink without discerning the body of
Christ eat and drink judgment on themselves.

The Nigerian church which is meant to be the conscience of the Nation has abdicated that role several years ago.

Nigerian Church has degenerated to a level were armed robbers and drunkards struggle for who takes the communion first.

A place were thieving politicians are made elders and given front row seat during communion and church services is not the kind of church our Lord Jesus is coming to marry.

Friends we are in a generation were ''pastors'' are general overseers in the day and ritualist and occult members at night.

Most orthodox churches today see communion as a mere ritual were those baptize in the mission are recognized, negating the spiritual relevance of the CUP OF JESUS !

This is the reason why many are sick in the body of christ
According to 1 Corinthians 11:30
"That is why many among you are weak and sick,
and a number of you have fallen asleep"

Communion services should be suspended because -

1. Ebola spreads via body fluids, and since some churches still use a collective cup for communion the risk of spread is quite high

Imagine the carnage that will be caused if an infected person takes the first sip in a communion of 1000 congregants

2. The Nigerian church has bastardized virtually everything! such that school certificate holders who are unable to secure jobs or admission now administer Holy communion as general overseers of the ministries they preside over controlling who administers the cup is virtually impossible.

3. Priests and Pastors have a high tendency of been infected with the virus. (The case of Miguel Pajares, the Spanish priest who died of Ebola 3 days ago is a classical example )

An infected priest due to the nature of his calling could also infect an entire community either via communion or interaction .

The Action of the Nurse who escaped from Lagos and went to Enugu which has now led to the quarantine of additional 21 people has shown us that drastic measures need to be taken because we are already in a drastic situation where things can change suddenly and rapidly .

As I write this piece a child is been tested for the virus in Ilorin, Kwara state if confirmed it will be the first case of the Virus in northern Nigeria, No where is safe anymore .

May God help us to help ourselves

passion007: Yet, most Nigerian tertiary hospitals have no running water; hospital staff use a bowl to scoop water, and then either use a soap bar or Morning Fresh.
What is more is the Morning Fresh is split in 5, and each part filled up with water.
You take a bowl to scoop water, contaminating the bowl, then after the sham called handwashing with Morning Fresh, you re-contaminate your hands with the microbes you had initially deposited on the bowl...what a thrill!
And I am not even talking about state teaching hospitals, or district hospitals, or worse still, primary health centres.

Saniitizers are a luxury in the hospitals where they are needed, but become necessities for political office holders!

I only hope Ebola leaves us wiser.

We're yet to recover from old threats by some 'elders' to make Nigeria "ungovernable". Nigeria certainly needs no new threats, we need peace
Politics2015: The Hypocrisy Of The Northern " Elders" by ochejoseph(op): 10:37am On Aug 13, 2014
It was Hillary Mantel who said that "History offers us vicarious experience. It allows the youngest student to possess the ground equally with his elders;
without a knowledge of history to give him a context for present events, he is at the mercy of every social misdiagnosis handed to him"

Over the years the Nigerian political landscape has been shaped by various characters masquerading as patriots, these class of people were individually and collectively responsible for the decay in our national infrastructure and the total lack of progress in the past, to these set of people any policy or government that does not have input from them must be sabotaged or pulled down at all cost.

In 2011, several factors coalesced to unleash the unprecedented post election tragedy witnessed in several parts of Northern Nigeria , a critical analysis of these factors has shown that the activities of the northern elders prior to the 2011 general elections was largely responsible for the carnage witnessed during the period. Fast forward to 2015 and the same set of people have returned with the same sectional and divisive politics, this time choosing to exploit the misfortune of the grieving Chibok families and the insurgency they have midwived into maturity.

It is important to note that these disgruntled self imposed Northern "elders" have never proffered any reasonable suggestion on how to end the current insurgency, neither have they sat for one day to appraise the impact of the 12 brand new Universities 9 of which were located in Northern Nigeria which should have been a norm if they really cared about the education of the Northern youth.

We expected these "Elders" who have served several governments in the past and are familiar with the problems facing millions of almajiri children to conduct an impact assessment of the effect of the over 200 amajiri schools built by current administration in northern Nigeria but these "elders" don't really care about education.

Elders who have the interest of their people at heart would have set up a machinery that will expose business men and women within the region on how best to position themselves so as to take advantage of Nigeria's first speed train service which will connect Kaduna the heart of northern Nigeria to Abuja the nations capital city, but these elders will rather do politics than help Northerners reduce haulage cost by helping them take advantage of the new rail links that now transverse the region .

As at today, the economy of northern Nigeria is largely driven by agriculture, it is regrettable to note that no meeting of the Northern elders in the past 4 years had agriculture on its agenda . The Farmers e- wallet which has revolutionalized the distribution of subsidized farming inputs and fertilizers but which the northern farmer has been finding very difficult to key into, is not an important issue to these "elders".

On a visit to one Nigeria's oldest Museums with some colleagues few years ago we came across several photographs that captured the British royal Merchant ships discharging finished products and loading agricultural produce bound for the west from inland ports in Northern Nigeria ,one had expected that with the dredging of the Niger river completed and the Inland dry Ports nearing completion the elders would channel their energies towards ensuring that our people not only take full advantage of the project but also position themselves as key players in the sector.Sadly, that also will never happen because these "elders" are more interested in politics than development .

As Northerners, our greatest mistake will be to think that the ''pretro'' dollars from the Niger delta will last forever, because when the oil finally dries up we will have nothing to fall back on, as such we must look beyond oil ,we must extricate ourselves from the desire to grab power at all cost and channel our energies towards raising strong entrepreneurs and economically sound communities by encouraging young people to start businesses rather than take up arms .

Until we create the enabling environment that will encourage investors to explore mineral deposits and invest in our region our economy will continue to suffer.
To date we have ruled this nation far longer than any other region, with little or nothing to show for it. Its time to stop blaming others for our woes and start taking responsibility for our future

PoliticsPresident Jonathan Congratulates Aregbesola by ochejoseph(op): 2:20pm On Aug 10, 2014
President  Goodluck Ebele Jonathan congratulates Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State on his victory in Saturday's governorship election in the state. The President commends the Independent National Electoral Commission and national security agencies for ensuring that the elections were free, fair, credible and peaceful in keeping with the avowed commitment of his Administration.

President Jonathan also applauds the people of Osun State who came out en masse yesterday in all the local government areas of the state to peacefully and freely exercise their democratic right, trusting in his assurance that all necessary measures would be taken to ensure their safety and the sanctity of their votes.

The President  believes  that the free, fair and peaceful conduct of the elections have fully reaffirmed his administration's determination  to positively reform Nigeria's electoral processes.

The outcome of the election has also given the lie to the false, unfair and uncharitable allegations that measures put in place by the Federal Government for the Ekiti and Osun State elections were partisan and designed to achieve a favourable outcome for his party.

As Governor Aregbesola prepares to begin a second term in office, President Jonathan looks forward to continuing to work with him and other state governors to further improve the living conditions of Nigerians in Osun and other states of the country.

He wishes Governor Aregbesola continued good health and a successful second term in office.

LUSAKA (AFP) – Zambia has banned the entry of citizens from countries hit by the deadly Ebola virus, which is ravaging nations to the north of the continent, the health ministry said Saturday.
The ruling targets citizens of Liberia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Guinea.
Even delegates to conferences already organised in Zambia would be barred, Health Minister Joseph Kasonde said in a statement on the ministry’s website.
“Ensure that all international events that may involve delegates (from) affected countries are postponed, cancelled or such delegates excluded,” he said.
Zambians returning from travel to Ebola affected nations would be thoroughly screened and quarantined if they were seen to be at risk of carrying the virus, the statement said.
World Health Organisation chief Margaret Chan said in Geneva Friday that the epidemic in west Africa which has killed nearly 1,000 people in Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Nigeria was the worst of its kind in four decades. http:///99KX0Zy2Wl

PoliticsFactbox: The Effect Of Russia Sanctions On European Companies by ochejoseph(op): 8:01pm On Aug 07, 2014
The European Union and the United States are
tightening sanctions against Russia, targeting its energy,
banking and defence sectors in the strongest international
action yet over Moscow's support for rebels in eastern
Ukraine.
Below are recent comments and decisions showing the
impact on European companies of the Western sanctions
and Russia's retaliatory measures:
* Rheinmetall slashed its 2014 operating profit target after
the German government withdrew its approval for a
contract with Russia and the group shifted some of its
automotive business to a joint venture.
* Russia will ban all imports of food from the United States
and all fruit and vegetables from Europe, the state news
agency reported on Wednesday.
* Shares of Norwegian fish farmers fall sharply on
Thursday over fears that Russia, their biggest market, will
ban imports as part of its planned sanctions against
Western states.
* Commerzbank is not expecting to face major losses from
its Russia-related business, which may be affected by the
EU sanctions, Chief Financial Officer Stephan Engels said.
* German airport operator Fraport said the crisis in Russia
and the prospect of further sanctions being imposed has
led to considerable uncertainties regarding its stake in St.
Petersburg airport.
* UniCredit, the banking market leader in central and
eastern Europe, said the sanctions would have only a
"marginal" impact on its business there. Its regional
subsidiary Bank Austria forecast solid profits in Russia
despite the sanctions, thanks in part to its ability to raise
money locally, though it warned of lost opportunities.
* Russia's prime minister threatened to retaliate for the
grounding of a subsidiary of national airline Aeroflot
because of the EU sanctions, and one newspaper said
European flights to Asia over Siberia could be banned.
* A low-cost airline run by Russian national carrier
Aeroflot, Dobrolyot (Good Flight), said it would suspend
all flights after its plane lease agreement was cancelled
when the EU slapped sanctions on Moscow.
* Daimler has seen booming growth in the Russian auto
market weaken due to the Ukraine crisis, Chief Executive
Dieter Zetsche told Germany's Bild am Sonntag newspaper.
* Part-nationalised British lender Royal Bank of Scotland
said it had placed restrictions on its lending in Russia
following developments in Ukraine.
* Adidas, the world's No.2 sportswear firm, cut its revenue
and profit targets for this year and scrapped them for next
year, blaming a plunge in sales at its golf business and its
exposure to a weak Russian market.
* The head of Russia's second-largest oil producer, Lukoil,
said the sanctions would force the company to reduce its
investments due to limited access to funds.
* Russian mobile phone operator Megafon said it
converted its foreign currency deposits into roubles and
Hong Kong dollars to protect against any further sanctions.
* Italy's Enel is not considering the sale of its Russian
assets at the moment, the utility's CEO Francesco Starace
said. "It is not wise to sell assets in Russia at this moment,"
Starace said in a conference call.
* German retailer Metro AG said conditions were still not
right to list a stake in its Russian cash-and-carry business,
which was postponed in March due to the Ukraine crisis.
* French oil major Total said it had stopped buying shares
in Russia's Novatek when a Malaysian airliner was shot
down over Ukraine, but it was still too early to gauge the
impact of the sanctions.
* Oil and gas producer BP reported a sharp rise in second-
quarter profits but warned further Western sanctions on
Russia could harm its business there and its relationship
with Russian state oil company Rosneft.
* More than 25,000 jobs are at risk in Germany following
the fresh sanctions, the German Committee on Eastern
European Economic Relations said. "Further damage is
looming for the European and especially the German
export industry. More than 25,000 jobs are in danger in
Germany alone," it said

PoliticsRe: Obama: Too Early To Send Ebola Drug To Africa by ochejoseph(op): 10:49am On Aug 07, 2014
I woke up this morning with great sadness after reading the statement credited to the American President Barack Obama who was quoted as saying '' afflicted countries should focus on proven public health measures, rather than an untested drug, effectively foreclosing any hope of infected Africans getting any reprieve from the experimental drug ZMapp.

The drug produced by Mapp pharmaceuticals has shown great promise in the treatment and management of Ebola patients ,However its use to date has been restricted to Americans leaving other infected nationals in the cold. Not even the Omar Khan the celebrated Ebola doctor who recently succumbed to the deadly virus was considered worthy to receive a drop of the serum.

Asking Africans to concentrate on proven public health procedure
at a time when Gods own country is administering the drug on her Nationals does not portray the Americans in Good light considering the recent hype about partnering with Africa.

The fatality rate of Ebola is near 100% as such the argument about risk factor does not hold water, I sincerely believe that west African countries are very much willing to sign any indemnity agreement with the US government on the potential risks of ZMapp administration on infected population.

As the world confronts this epidemic it is imperative to note that mutual cooperation and scientific synergy among Ebola free nations and Ebola infected countries is key if the disease must be contained.

PoliticsObama: Too Early To Send Ebola Drug To Africa by ochejoseph(op): 10:38am On Aug 07, 2014
Liberia declares state of emergency over outbreak as US
president says more information needed about
experimental drugs.
US President Barack Obama said it is "premature" to send
an experimental medicine for the treatment of Ebola to
West Africa, as Liberia declared a state of emergency
amid an outbreak that shows no signs of slowing.
Obama said on Wednesday that he lacked enough
information to green-light a promising medicine called
ZMapp that was already used on two American aid
workers who saw their conditions improve by varying
degrees.
"We've got to let the science guide us and I don't think all
the information is in on whether this drug is helpful,"
Obama said. "The Ebola virus, both currently and in the
past, is controllable if you have a strong public health
infrastructure in place."
But he said: "the countries affected are the first to admit
that what's
happened here is the public health systems have been
overwhelmed. They weren't able to identify and then
isolate cases quickly enough."
"As a consequence, it spread more rapidly than has been
typical with the periodic Ebola outbreaks that occurred
previously."
The World Health Organisation (WHO) said on
Wednesday it would ask medical ethics experts to
explore emergency use of experimental treatments.
There is no known cure for Ebola, a hemorrhagic fever
that has overwhelmed rudimentary healthcare systems
and prompted the deployment of troops to quarantine
the worst-hit areas in the remote border region of
Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.
International alarm at the diffusion of the virus
increased when a US citizen died in Nigeria last month
after flying there from Liberia.
Authorities said on Wednesday that a Nigerian nurse
who had treated Patrick Sawyer had also died of Ebola,
and five other people were being treated in an isolation
ward in Lagos, Africa's largest city.
Public health officials should do all they can to contain
the outbreak, and during the course of that process,
authorities can assess whether new drugs or treatments
can be effective, Obama said.
"We're focusing on the public health approach right now,
but I will continue to seek information about what we're
learning about these drugs going forward," he said.
US health regulators have authorised the use of an Ebola
diagnostic test developed by the Pentagon for use abroad
on military personnel, aid workers and emergency
responders, the US Food and Drug Administration said.
State of emergency
Health workers across West Africa appealed on
Wednesday for urgent help in controlling the world's
worst ever outbreak as the death toll climbed to 932 and
Liberia declared the state of emergency.
In a speech, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Liberia's
president, said that "ignorance and poverty, as well
as entrenched religious and cultural practices, continue
to exacerbate the spread of the disease."
"The government and people of Liberia require
extraordinary measures for the very survival of our state
and for the protection of the lives of our people," Sirleaf
said in an official statement.
The state of emergency was for 90 days, effective from
Wednesday. Liberia also shut a major hospital where
several staff were infected, including a Spanish priest.
