Jonathan and the Rice Pyramid When I look back I remember those miscreants who at a point represented all that was wrong in my area, who are today the proud owners of large rice farms , I lift up my hands to heaven to Bless the king that never sleeps, for the life of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Whose initiative has transformed those haggard looking Boys whose only vocation was violence into vibrant and economically buoyant rice farmers overnight. Shared into groups of 20s these young rice farmers have transformed the wastelands of Nassarawa, Kebbi , Lokoja - Abuja Highway etc into viable rice farms . Today some of them are proud owners of Brand new motorcycles and tricycles which they purchased from the profits they made from selling rice paddy! The picture of the president beside these huge pyramids of rice is a clear testimony of the ''CAN DO'' spirit of the average Nigerian. The fact that the policies of this administration has led to a huge reduction of our food imports from a total of N1.4 trillion (about $7 billion) in 2009 to N717 billion (about $4.35 billion) as at December 2013, a decline of $2.65 billion (N429bn) is a pointer to the fact that given the opportunity Nigerians have the ability and the capacity to feed the Nation ! GOD BLESS THE PRESIDENT GOD BLESS THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA

President Jonathan welcomes Malala Yousafzai, renowned Girl-Child Education Campaigner to Presidential Villa, Abuja. Malala Yousafzai,is the Pakistani teenager shot in the head by the Taliban for championing the right of girls to education, she pledged to help free a group of more than 200 schoolgirls who have been held captive by Islamist militants Boko Haram since April. The activist, who turns 17 on Monday, held an early birthday celebration with some of the girls who escaped the mass abduction in the north-eastern village of Chibok in April. "I can see those girls as my sisters… and I'm going to speak up for them until they are released," she said during a meeting on Sundaywith some of the parents of the abducted children in the capital, Abuja. "I'm going to participate actively in [the] Bring Back Our Girls campaign to make sure that they return safely." Later, standing beside four visibly delighted children from Chibok, she blew out the candles of a birthday cake. Malala was shot shortly after boarding a school bus in 2009 by Taliban insurgents in Pakistan's Swat district, an event that turned her into a global symbol of defiance against the militants. Similarly, the abduction of 300 secondary school girls has shone a global spotlight on the atrocities of Boko Haram, whose name means "western education is forbidden". http://pic.twitter.com/5q2fMPfj1V

It’s the secret that could ruin Hillary Clinton’s prospective bid for The White House. President Bill Clinton once came clean that he was NOT in fact the biological father of the political pair’s only child, Chelsea Clinton. Even more shocking, he allegedly said the real father is the former mayor of Little Rock, Ark., Webster Hubbell, who’s also Hillary’s one-time law partner, claims former Clinton aide Larry Nichols. years ago Bill admitted to having an affair with a local Little Rock woman after rumors surfaced that the woman was pregnant with his baby. According to Nichols, Bill denied the allegations and revealed that he’s sterile. “We were discussing a woman’s claims that Bill had knocked her up and what we should do about it,” said Nichols. “But he denied that he could have gotten her pregnant. He said he had measles as a kid and that rendered him sterile.” “His exact words were, ‘I shoot blanks.’ Stunned by what I’d just heard, I asked him, ‘Then what about Chelsea?’ And he said, ‘Oh, Webb [Hubbell] sired her.’” Webb Hubbell is rumored to be the biological father to Chelsea Clinton.Reportedly, businessman Finis Shelnutt (who was once Hubbell’s brother-in-law) told The National Enquirer that Hilary Clinton and Hubbell’s alleged affair wasn’t a big secret. “That was rumored in Arkansas for years and totally public. A lot of people suspected that,” Shelnutt said, adding that the older Chelsea gets, the more she looks like Hubbell. “Chelsea kind of looked like Webb at that time,” he said. “That is what a lot of people talked about. Of course Webb never discussed it with the family. It was just never brought up.” The rumors of Chelsea’s biological father surfaced right around the time Hilary is expected to announce whether she will join the 2016 Presidential race. Chelsea is also pregnant with her first child with husband Marc Mezvinsky. What do you think This comes at quite a sensitive time given that Hillary will soon announce whether she will run for president in 2016 and her daughter is pregnant with her first child with her husband, 36-year-old Marc Mezvinsky. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3174601/posts

Eleven soldiers will face a six-count charge including committing mutiny. The Nigerian Army has court–martialed 18 soldiers for attempted murder and mutiny in Maimalari cantonment,Maiduguri. In an internal memo seen by PREMIUM TIMES, the Commander, Army Headquarter Garrison, B.T Ndiomu, ordered the General Court Martial, GCM, to be presided by C.C Okonkwo, a Brigadier General. Mr. Ndiomu, who is also a Brigadier General, had ordered that a GCM be assembled at the garrison’s conference hall on June 26. The GCM is made up of seven members, two waiting members, a judge advocate and two prosecuting officers. Others include: a liaison officer, a contact officer, two officers authorized to sign any amendment convening officer and eight other soldiers who form a court secretariat. The 18 soldiers are to be court-martialed for an incident that occurred in May at the barracks On May 14, some soldiers, angered by the death of 12 of their colleagues in a Boko Haram ambush, opened fire on the vehicle of the General Officer Commanding, GOC, 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, Ahmadu Mohammed. The soldiers blamed Mr. Mohammed for the death of their colleagues killed in the ambush. Sources had told PREMIUM TIMES that the soldiers were ambushed while on a special operation in Kalabalge Local Government Area where locals on the Tuesday morning killed about 150 insurgents and arrested 10 others. After the operation, during which some military equipment were recovered from the insurgents, the soldiers who had arrived the council, at night were asked to return to Maiduguri. The soldiers reportedly pleaded to be allowed to return to Maiduguri the next morning, as the night trip would be too risky. Their request was allegedly turned down and the troop had to drive to Maiduguri at night. “Those commanding the troop declined their request to pass the night in one of the villages on the grounds that the top ranks at the headquarters of the 7 Division would not be pleased if they don’t go back to Maiduguri that night,” said a ranking soldier, who sought anonymity. The 7 Division, recently formed, is located in Maiduguri, the capital of the troubled Borno State. But half way through their journey, they ran into a Boko Haram ambush and 12 of them got killed while some others were injured, sources said. The military later claimed that only four soldiers died in the ambush, before it increased the figure to six. The survivors, in what seemed a vengeance mission, opened fire on their commander, Mr. Mohammed, when they eventually arrived in Maiduguri. Mr. Mohammed, a Major General, was immediately redeployed to another command which the military did not reveal. However, in its version of the attack on the GOC, the military said the soldiers did not shoot at their commander. “The fact of the matter is that troops on patrol around Chibok were ambushed by insurgents yesterday. Troops engaged the insurgents in a fierce combat and extricated themselves from the ambush killing several insurgents. “Four soldiers however lost their lives during the ambush. “On evacuation of the remains of the fallen troops, the General Officer Commanding addressed the troops who registered their anger about the incident by firing into the air,” the military spokesperson, Chris Olukolade, a Major General, had said in a statement. The Nigerian Army, however, instituted a military board of inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the conduct of soldiers who fired some shots. In a charge sheet signed by Mr. Ndiomu on June 28, it was specified that 11 of the soldiers are being charged with criminal conspiracy to commit mutiny among others. These eleven soldiers are facing a six-count charge of committing mutiny, criminal conspiracy to commit mutiny, attempted murder, disobedience to particular orders, insubordinate behaviour contrary to and punishable under the law, and false accusation. The charge sheet read that the soldiers inspired other military personnel of the 101 battalion to commit mutiny and also accused E. Azenda, a Lieutenant colonel who is the Second in Command of the 101 battalion of conspiring with other officers to kill the soldiers. One of the charges read “that you between 13 and 14 May 2014 at Maimalari cantonment in Maiduguri fired sporadically with the intent to incite other personnel of 101 battalion against the authority of 7 Division Below are names of the accused soldiers, their ranks and service numbers: 96NA/ 42/6235 Cpl Jasper Braidolor 96NA/ 43/ 10277 Cpl David Musa 05NA/ 57/ 3451 LCpl Friday Onun 09NA/ 64/ 4905 LCpl Yusuf Shuaibu 09NA/ 62/ 1648 LCpl Igono Emmanuel 09NA/ 64/ 4214 Pte Andrew Ngbede 10NA/ 65/ 8344 Pte Nurudeen Ahmed 10NA/ 65/ 7084 Pte Ifeanyi Alukhagbe 13NA/ 69/ 2898 Pte Alao Samuel 13NA/ 69/ 2907 Pte Amadi Chukwudi 13NA/ 69/ 2898 Pte Allan Linus The other seven soldiers also court-martialed but yet to be charged are: 93NA/ 36/ 1542 Cpl David Luhbut 97NA/ 45/ 7423 Cpl Muhammed Sani 03NA/ 53/ 816 Lcpl Stephen Clement 09NA/ 62/ 1648 Inama Samuel 09NA/ 64/ 5858 Iseh Ubong 10NA/ 65/ 6912 Ichocho Jeremiah 10NA/ 65/ 7343 Sabastine Gwaba. “Nigeria is aggressively confronting the Boko Haram threat” in response to Karen Attiah’s misinformed July 3 op-ed, “#BringBackMyEasyDays,”. Excerpts: “The claim that the president has a “do- nothing” attitude toward rescuing the girls is no different than what was written about President Obama’s decision not to disclose his efforts to seize and arrest the alleged ringleader of the 2012 terrorist attacks in Benghazi, Libya, that killed four Americans — until he did just that. Mr. Jonathan won’t put the lives of these girls at risk by publicly revealing details of the recovery operation for the sake of satisfying his critics. Despite Ms. Attiah’s claims to the contrary, even before the abductions, the president was engaged in international intelligence-sharing involving West Africa, Europe and the United States, and he had also launched the Counter-Terrorism Centre in Nigeria. He has been working intensely on the very challenging situation posed by Boko Haram since assuming office, including declaring a state of emergency in May 2013 in the three most affected northern states. Nigerian women are being trafficked to Italy under the pretence that they will be working as nannies or in factories – but often end up working the streets as prostitutes. Their plight has been highlighted by Paris-based photographer Elena Perlino, originally from Italy, who began to notice the presence of young African women working on the streets during her commutes from Turin. www.theheraldng.com/nigerian-prostitutes-languishing-europe-photos/?wt=3

Oby I never expected an educated fellow like you to fall for such a Scam. 1. The technology that will erase an ink from a (cellulose or fiber ) based paper must leave a residue on the point of impact ! If this is the case then that Ballot would have been considered invalid. 2. Ink especially the one used for stamps and elections are mainly composed of dyes and pigments which leave an indelible mark on any paper it comes in contact with. 3.the procedure for elections is such that accreditation takes place earlier and no matter the size actual voting do not take more that 40 minutes to conduct ! If such chemical reaction actually took place the ''Disappearing'' acts would have been noticed as soon as counting begins. idumuose: Nyako's cup is full and overflowingyou can say that again |
The seven-member investigative panel constituted by the acting Chief Judge of Adamawa State, Ambrose Mammadi, to investigate allegations of gross misconduct by Governor Murtala Nyako, commenced sitting on Monday. The panel ignored the directive of the state government which had on Sunday declared Monday and Tuesday as public holidays. Mr. Nyako had declared the holiday to allow citizens pray for peace in the state, but critics said it was aimed at stopping Mr. Mammadi from inaugurating the panel he appointed last Friday. Mr. Mammadi’s tenure as chief judge ends on Monday, while the panel was expected to be inaugurated on Monday. No public inauguration was done. Speaking to journalists on Monday, the Registrar of the State High Court, Abubakar Babayola, said the inauguration of the committee is a mere ceremony and not a constitutional requirement. Mr. Babayola signed the Friday statement, on behalf of the acting Chief Judge, announcing the composition of the committee. “The Hon. Acting Chief Judge Hon. Justice Ambrose D. Mammadi by the powers vested in him under Section 185(5) of the 1999 constitution as (amended) has approved the appointment of seven (7) Man Panel to investigate allegations of Gross Misconduct of the Executive Governor of Adamawa State Admiral Murtala Nyako and the Deputy Governor of Adamawa State Mr. Bala Ngilari,” the registrar had said. The committee is chaired by Buba Kaimaga from Mubi Northern Zone. The other members are Laraba Hassan, Michika Northern Zone; Njidda Kito, Song Central Zone; Joshua Abu, Hong Central Zone; Binanu Esthon, Guyuk Southern Zone; Sa’ad Lawan, Mayo-Belwa, Southern Zone; and Esthon Gapsiso, Genye Southern Zone. The registrar had said the committee members would be sworn-in at a later, unannounced date. However, as at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, the committee was sitting amidst tight security at J & J Holiday Villa located at Atirwucha close in Karewa GRA, Yola. It is not clear if Messrs. Nyako and his deputy, Bala Ngilari, will appear before the committee to clear themselves of the allegations. Twenty of the 25 lawmakers in the state had, as part of the impeachment proceedings, asked the chief judge to set up the committee. Apparently reacting to the impeachment crisis currently rocking Adamawa State, the state government has declared Monday and Tuesday work-free days. In a statement made via SMS by the director of press, Mallam Ahmad Sajoh, the state government said it deemed it fit to make the declaration of the two working days work-free to afford the people of the state the chance to reflect on the current happenings in the country and to use the period to offer special prayers for peace in the country. “His Excellency Governor Murtala Nyako has approved Monday 7th and Tuesday 8th July as work- free days in Adamawa State. This is to enable the people to reflect on the current happenings in the country and to use the period to offer special prayers for peace in the state and the country. “The period is to also allow Adamawa workers reflect on their current challenges. It is also a thanksgiving period for citizens to appreciate God’s protection despite all the challenges,” the statement noted. The declaration of work-free days was a shrewd political calculation by Governor Nyako’s camp to prevent the acting chief judge of the state, Justice Ambrose Mammadi, from inaugurating the seven- man panel he had earlier constituted on Monday. Since his tenure will expire tomorrow, it means that by the time the two-day holidays expire, the tenure of the acting chief judge will elapse. Mammadi was inaugurated as the acting CJ for Adamawa State on April 8 by Nyako. Since he was appointed on acting capacity for three months, Mammadi’s tenure ends tomorrow. But a constitutional lawyer in the state, Mr Joshua Sunday Wugira, said the decision of the state government would not affect the constitution of the investigative panel as the extension of the tenure of the acting CJ was the exclusive reserve of the National Judicial Council (NCJ). With the prevailing situation in Adamawa, he said, he believed the NJC would take the appropriate action. Wugira further said that the governor has no right to interfere with the tenure of an acting CJ when it expires, adding that the issue has become the exclusive right of the NJC to decide whether to extend the tenure of the acting CJ or not. He faulted the declaration of work-free days by the government, saying he read mischief behind it as nothing serious happened in the state to warrant the impromptu holiday. “You can’t just declare public holiday as nothing serious happened to warrant its declaration. It could be declared a nullity,” he said. When asked to comment on whether someone other than the CJ can inaugurate the panel in the absence of the acting CJ who constituted it, Wugira said the inauguration can be done by any high court judge or any notary public. Similarly, the state secretary of the PDP who is also a lawyer, Mr A.T. Shehu, noted that section 188, subsection 1- 10, of the constitution provides that once the committee has been set up, any high court judge or notary public can inaugurate it. He noted that they were not perturbed by the antics of the government. The confusion was sparked by the war of words between Governor Nyako’s camp and the PDP’s camp. Nyako’s camp insisted that the acting CJ has no constitutional right to inaugurate the investigative panel while the PDP camp contended that the constitution permits someone other than the acting CJ to inaugurate the committee. But the public relations officer of the APC, Mr Phineas Padio, said that the acting CJ had adopted double standard by the way he has been acting. He said it was surprising for the same acting CJ who told the lawmakers that their action was against the law to turn around after a few days to give a counter-ruling. Padio added that, from the information available to them, the acting CJ has been hijacked by the military who asked him to constitute the investigative panel under duress. Already, Nyako’s camp has made known its intention to challenge the inauguration of the seven- man panel going by the court’s rejection of the assembly’s substituted charges. Speaking to LEADERSHIP on the matter, the director, press and public affairs, Government House, Yola, Mr Ahmad Sajoh, said, “We’ll challenge the setting up of the panel on the grounds that the same judge that gave a judgement in the day time took an action contrary to the judgement in the evening. We are looking at the issue from the legal point of view. “The same acting chief judge gave an order that there should be stay of action and then the House passed a resolution superseding his order; he cannot again take the resolution of the House and act on it. Our lawyers are working on the legal interpretation of the action and they will go to court.” Count us out – military The military authorities yesterday denied any involvement in the ongoing process toward impeaching Governor Nyako, especialy the alleged taking over of the residence of the acting chief judge of Adamawa State. According to reports, some soldiers have taken over the residence of the acting CJ, Ambrose Mammadi, with a view to intimidating him to facilitate the plot to impeach Governor Nyako and his deputy, Bala Ngillari. Last week, the acting CJ made the list of the seven- man committee to investigate the governor and his deputy. However, findings show that there was never a directive from the military authorities asking any soldier to take such a step. But a top military officer accused politicians of trying to blackmail the military over the impeachment matter which he described as “a purely political matter”. Neither the director of information, Defence Headquarters, Major General Chris Olukolade, nor the spokesman for the army, Brigadier General Olajide Laleye, agreed there was such a directive emanating from Abuja. Speaking in a telephone chat, Major General Olukolade said, “We are still investigating the story, but let me tell you that I am not aware of any directive from the DHQ asking soldiers to do so. As soon as we get to the root of the matter, I will get back to you.” That was the same position of Brigadier Laleye who simply said, “We will investigate the matter.” But speaking under a condition of anonymity, a top military officer cautioned the politicians against bringing in the military into a purely political matter. “I read the story but if you looked at the whole story, it was sponsored by some politicians who always like drawing the military into a purely political matter. The military has no business in the impeachment process; the position of the constitution is unambiguous about it. Tell those who want to involve the military to stop their unpatriotic agenda; it is not good for the military and the country. If the story is true, any soldier involved would face the consequence because it is purely a political matter,” he said. The constitution is silent on inauguration – lawyers Some lawyers yesterday expressed their view on the appointment of a seven-man panel set up by the chief judge of the state to investigate an allegation of corruption against Governor Nyako. Some have argued that the CJ needed to inaugurate the committee before it can commence investigation. But some have said that section 188 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) is silent on inauguration. Malam Abubakar Malami, a senior advocate, said the constitution only talks about appoinment and says nothing about inauguration. “I think the CJ has acted according to the law,” Malami said. Another senior advocate, Chief Awa Kalu, agreed with the argument of Malami but said that an inauguration will not be out of place as their terms of reference would be spelt out to them. “The constitution does not talk about inauguration but inaugurating the panel will not be out of place since they have terms of reference they will work with,” Kalu said. The chief justice had constituted a seven-man panel on Friday to investigate allegations of gross misconduct brought against the governor and his deputy by the state House of Assembly. Controversy over soldiers’ presence at CJ’s residence Controversy has continued to trail the alleged occupation of the house of the acting chief judge of the state, Justice Ambrose Mammadi. The incident has led to tension in the state as opposing camps continue to throw brickbats against each other. The public relations officer of the APC, Mr Phineas Padio, has condemned the action of the soldiers, saying that it was the height of impunity. He added that they learnt that the acting CJ was even coerced to constitute the investigative panel at gunpoint. The development, he said, is a big minus for democracy as anti-democratic forces seem hell-bent on ousting a legitimate government through the use of force. While corroborating the position of Padio, a source close to the acting CJ who did not want to be quoted said the acting CJ had been under intense pressure from the authorities since the impeachment process commenced. He has been under the surveillance of soldiers since then, he said. Security sources told LEADERSHIP in confidence that the deployment of soldiers to keep tabs on the acting CJ was to ensure the security of his life as any of the contending sides who felt threatened by his actions might try to harm him. But, when contacted, the army public relations officer of the 23rd Brigade Command, Captain Nuhu Jafaru, said he knew nothing about soldiers being deployed to guard the acting CJ’s house. Mercenaries were smuggled into the state to kill or kidnap our members – speaker The speaker, Adamawa State House of Assembly, Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has raised the alarm over the smuggling of merceneries whose job was to either kidnap or kill members of the state House of Assembly following the impeachment move against Governor Nyako and his deputy. The speaker made the position known through his chief press secretary, Mr Solomon Kumanga, yesterday in Yola. Kumangar said followng threats against members of the House of Assembly, each member was attached a security detail to ensure the safety of his life. “Some people who are not happy with what is going on in the state have brought in mercenaries to either kill or abduct our members; as such, each member was attached a security detail to safeguard him. “We have it on good authority that those mercenaries have been given the photographs of all our members for them to carry out their nefarious activities.” Kumanga also said the House was not aware of the holiday declared by the government and will go about its activities unperturbed . www.leadership.ng/news/377060/nyako-moves-outwit-adamawa-assembly |

Abdullahi Maibasira, the national youth leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in this interview with CHRISTIAN OKEKE, speaks on how the transformation going on in the party is already bringing goodwill to it as well as the party's plans to win back Osun State in the next month. YOU are a member of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP and only recently, your party secured victory at the Ekiti governorship election. How will you describe the election and what can you say gave PDP the victory? First, we must thank the people of Ekiti for coming together across the 16 local governments and showing support by voting for our candidate. I must also cease this moment to thank the youths of the state, most especially, the various students' movements within the state. They chose to identify with the party in the electoral process. All credit must go to the people of Ekiti, who worked tirelessly to ensure that the poll was free and fair, devoid of any form of violence, and this is what the PDP has always stood for: one man, one vote; one woman, one vote; one youth, one vote. The belief in Nigerian politics is that it is difficult to defeat an incumbent. How does the PDP assess the incumbent governor of the state, Dr Kayode Fayemi; Does your party believe that he performed creditably at all? The issue of governance is people-oriented; it is the people that will pass the verdict and it is either they pass a yes verdict on your performance or they pass a no verdict on your performance and in this case, the people of Ekiti passed their verdict. They chose to change their path; they chose to change their direction. They chose to be led on a different political platform with different ideology altogether. As leaders, there is a time to be elected and there is a time to work and that is exactly what the result of the election has shown us. Across the 16 local governments of the state, our candidate got majority votes. The people spoke and that is the beauty of democracy that not only do the majority carry the day, but the will of the people will always prevail. The PDP is people-oriented, people centred, with our perspective always driven by an ideal to put the people in the frame of development, advancing their goal and participating fully in democracy. I think we must also give it to Dr Fayemi, who, I think for the first-time, conceded an election magnanimously in line with the verdict of the people. I think his concession and ongoing steps towards a smooth transition showed that Nigeria's democracy is coming of age and advancing and I believe that most Nigerians, who are aspiring for political offices, will toe the line of Dr Fayemi. We must definitely praise him for his statesmanship; we must salute him for his courage; we must also identify with this position he has taken and we hope that parties will also toe this same line in future elections. Recently, we saw that some notable members left your party. Ironically, the PDP has just won an election in a state some pundits believed before the poll that it was not possible. What has happened in the PDP? The beauty of democracy is greatly enshrined in certain fundamentals and these include our rights as Nigerians: to freedom, liberty and association. You can choose at your free-will to associate with whoever you may wish to associate with and that is also one of the central elements of politics: that where perhaps you are best suited, you pitch your tent there. As a party, we have shown Nigerians that this is a party for all Nigerians; a party where you can rise to any level irrespective of what you are and where you are coming from; to aspire for any office. To play your part in building this country, this is the only party that can guarantee you that. We have shown it time and over again and the PDP is the most formidable political platform ever built in the country. Why? Because we have maintained Nigeria's democracy since 1999, the longest period in our democratic experience and it is the PDP that has done that. So, the party is a very big family; it is a very big party. Therefore, it accommodates everybody and you must also give it that the NWC of the party has opened the doors for everyone to participate and of course, the national leader of the party, the president has also provided leadership. Our agenda are working, the fundamentals of our macro economy are stronger, and that is why I think you are seeing the change in tide. In every human word, you will find there are times when you have challenges but it is not the challenges that build a political party. It is how that institution responds to those challenges and as a party, I think we have shown to Nigerians that we can brace up to our inherent challenges and we will continue to rise up to the occasion to ensure that the mandate given to us by Nigerians of protecting this democracy and advancing our common wealth. The next governorship election is coming up in Osun State in August. What is the PDP looking at? Every political party goes to an election with the hope of winning. That is why there is competition for votes and of course, we are moving towards Osun with hopes and prospects to win the state. This has been a PDP state before and we still want to bring it back to PDP. We believe that the state should also follow the line of the transformation agenda that is going on at the federal level. I want to believe that our politics and of course our victory in Ekiti will propel and give us the necessary confidence to be able to approach Osun election. Of course, we are in contact with our people on the ground. For the youth structure there, we have already begun our mobilisation and we are working towards a strong and victorious show in Osun. With few months now to 2015, do you think that APC is a threat to PDP? I don't think the APC, as presently constituted, with no real manisfesto, with no plans for youths inclusion in governance, with no definite alternative policy proposals to PDP's and with no concrete alternative measures for national unity, is a threat to PDP. Giving our party's structures, our chances, of course, are bright. We are the largest political party in the country. The transformation agenda is working, we have thousands of youths in federal government-led youths empowerment programmes and we have had transformation in the agricultural sector. We now have federal universities in all the states of this country. We have advanced infrastructural development and the roadmap for power sector reform that will provide greater electricity for the generality of Nigerians. We have continuously opened up the gate to Nigeria's economic growth and that is why we are still the most investor-friendly country and we still receive the highest foreign direct investment in Africa and to cap it up, we have made Nigeria the largest economy in Africa. We have made heavy and critical investments in the rail sector. I personally believe that ideologies should drive party affiliation. Of course, all nations have challenges and we do have challenges as a country but we are pushing forward to ensure that these challenges become a thing of the past and that is why I believe the youths of this country will generally identify with the PDP. More so, as a party, we have given young people opportunity and it will continue. We are moving towards effective and sustainable strategies for youths inclusion in politics, in both appointive and elective positions. But, do you think there is any challenge the PDP may need to sort out before 2015? We have our internal dispute-resolution mechanism and that is the beauty of PDP as a party. Over time, we have developed internal processes that will ultimately resolve different and varying degrees of challenges that will come up politically. As a party, we have demonstrated, we have proved to Nigerians that we have the mechanism and strength to solve our problems and maintain the unity of the country and with that, we will approach this election. http://tribune.com.ng/quicklinkss/politics/item/9601-why-pdp-wants-to-win-back-osun

New Media, dominated predominantly by Social Media, may not determine who wins elections but it will determine who influences perceptions. Ask yourself when was the last time you heard a breaking news on TV that had not already broken on New Media? The fact is that New Media influences perception but as Ekiti has shown us, perception itself is not reality no matter what spin doctors say. Now, perception may not be reality but if you do not take care of your perception, it will interfere with your reality. However, perception is not the same as propaganda. I got a lesson in the difference between perception and propaganda when I went to school in England. The brochure of the school had a picture of this amazing hall and when I arrived on campus I asked for the whereabouts of that hall and received a rude shock when I was told I was in the hall. I looked around and it was indeed the hall, but it did not look as grand as it did in the brochure. They had taken the picture of the hall from an angle that emphasized its grandeur. That was an example of perception influencing reality which influenced choice. Elsewhere in England, a fellow Nigerian student had gone to his university only to find that the halls in the brochure of his schools existed, only not in that school. The school had used pictures of stately buildings. They did not expressly say those buildings were in their campus, but they knew it would be assumed. That was an act of propaganda influencing choice. But while I remained at my school, the other Nigerian did not. The moral here is that perception can be tolerated by reality but propaganda will be rejected by it. The President, as one having the largest Facebook following of any political leader in Africa (almost 1.6 million followers) could engage in propaganda if he were so inclined, but that is not the Jonathan way. His way is to deliver results while his detractors deliver activity and then let those results speak for themselves. And the results are speaking for themselves with his Facebook page being the most visited FB profile in Africa, with one single post commanding over 110,000 likes and over 36,000 comments. For now though, let us consider the word ‘clueless’. It is defined by the Oxford English Dictionary as ‘having no knowledge, understanding, or ability’. Now, this tag is a major arsenal in the propaganda unit of the opposition. The higher echelon have given their foot soldiers the order to tar the President with this adjective. Now let us touch on reality for a bit. In Nigeria, the two states with the highest population density are Kano and Lagos. Incidentally, these two states are right now being governed by the opposition. Anybody who knows these two states will attest to the fact that the major issue facing Kano is the sheer number of school age children that are out of the formal education system. It is estimated that there are at least 2 million itinerant scholars known as Almajiri in Kano who do not have access to formal education. In Lagos, the major issue has been how to deal with the traffic situation that keeps Lagosians trapped in ‘go slow’ thereby depriving the economy off the man hours lost to this unproductive drudgery. State and local officials have for almost half a decade been ‘clueless’ as to how to resolve these two debilitating municipal issues. The problems have grown in scale each passing year and appeared to be insurmountable. But there has been a revolution of late which has addressed these two malaise and which is providing a solution in the present while turning adversity to opportunity. In Kano, multiple schools have been purpose built for almajiris. They are called Almajiri Model Schools. They have Quranic recitation halls, Malams Quarters, libraries, hostels and science laboratories. These schools are now in operation. They do not follow the traditional curriculum. They have a special curriculum which is built around Islamic education and science. The direction of the schools are determined by the Malam in charge and the only external influence is supervision from the ministry of education. As a result, they are being utilized and kids are now leaving the streets of Kano to the comfort of the Almajiri Model Schools. Thus, a decades old problem is being solved. Of course it will take many more Almajiri Model Schools to absorb the over 2 million kids outside the formal education system, but now, we have a template that works. In Lagos, when Lagosians first heard of the air conditioned trains, they thought it was a rumour, a ruse. Those kinds of things do not happen in Nigeria, they thought. And then people started boarding the air conditioned trains that take you from one end of Lagos to another. They began taking selfies of themselves in these trains and tweeting or facebooking it. Soon the news spread like wild fire! You can now escape Lagos traffic by taking the new air conditioned trains. It will stop in Oshodi, it will stop in Agege. It is meant for the masses. It is used by the masses! And just like that, the number of people who travel by train in Nigeria has increased from 1 million per annum in 2009 to 5 million per annum and growing today. But the koko of the matter is that these initiatives were the personal initiative of President Goodluck Jonathan in the case of Almajiri Model Schools, and the joint initiative of the President and his minister in the case of the Lagos Air Conditioned Trains or ‘Jonathan trains’ as some call it. So this man, Jonathan, has in a space of a few years brought about a solution to two of the most pressing and recurring municipal issues facing the most populated areas of Nigeria. It takes knowledge to come up with these ideas. It takes understanding to implement them. It takes ability to focus on them in the midst of distraction from terrorists and their sponsors. It takes humility to do it in the sphere of influence of the opposition. The facts above cannot be dismissed. If these are the acts of a ‘clueless’ person, then we need more cluelessness in Nigeria. When the Jonathan administration launched the new National Automotive Policy in 2013, the opposition called it a pipe dream. But they were not dreaming when President Goodluck Jonathan became the first Nigerian to publicly drive the new Made in Nigeria Nissan on the 29th of May 2014. To cover their embarrassment at this feat, they said the cars were not made in Nigeria because not all the components were manufactured in Nigeria. In that case, no country manufactures a car because in this modern age, no single country makes all the parts that make up a car. Mercedes Benz for instance makes parts in different continents including Africa. The nationality of the car is determined by the location where the final product is put together. But for the sake of arguments, let us say that these cars are not even made in Nigeria. Is it not a fact that they are in Nigeria, they are inexpensive because of the National Automotive Policy, they are providing jobs for Nigerians and they are designed for our weather and environment? My people, things are changing in Nigeria and at such breath taking pace that the propaganda of ‘clueless’ cannot sell any more. Before Jonathan, Nigeria as a nation was importing cement today we are producing enough to meet our domestic demand and have enough left over to export to other African nations. As the cement is being manufactured, they are put on trains and hauled directly from the factory to Lagos port because the president had the foresight to extend the rail lines to the site of production. On Monday the 14th of July 2014 the President commissioned the largest rice mill in Nigeria in Nasarawa, the Olam Rice Mill. At that event the President said “our commitment is to continue to reduce our food importation bill to the barest minimum. To demonstrate our commitment, I am glad to report to Nigerians that from a total food import bill of One trillion, one hundred billion naira (N1.1tr) ($6.9billion dollars) as at 2009, we have reduced our food import bill to Six hundred and eighty four billion, seven million naira (N684.7billion) ($4.35billion dollars) as at December 2013″. That Nigeria is changing for the better under Jonathan is a reality. That he is solving decades long problems is a reality. That ordinary Nigerians have seen through the propaganda of the opposition is also a reality. It is also a reality that they can no longer sell the propaganda of a clueless Jonathan. In fact, the President’s abilities has begun to shrink the ranks of the opposition as we now read about defections from their ranks to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP on a weekly basis. They confuse the President’s meekness for weakness, forgetting that meekness is power under control ready to be unleashed if and when the situation demands it. They confuse the President’s thoughtfulness for foolishness forgetting that it is better to think then act than to act then think. They confuse his tolerance for timidity forgetting that as the leader of the nation he must think of the good of both those who love him and those who don’t while their only thought is for those who love them. So, let them continue with their propaganda. The best answer to them is one crafted by MKO Abiola of blessed memory who said ‘if you change the name of honey, it will still be sweet’.
