Why is it that end of year ATP Masters cup is not counted as one of the ATP masters tournament wins? Roger Federer should have had 27 titles now instead of 21

For starters this is the end of Dana air. Would u enter their aircraft after all this has died down? For me,no way. Just like ADC,SOSOLISO,BELVIEW...they should go down. That's the very least penalty for killing 153 prosperous Nigerians in one day. Preliminary reports indicate that this accident waited so long to happen!

If the above account is true the culprits in Dana airline should get nothing short of life sentence!

Oh good God...please have mercy. This is too painful to bear. Lord please. Bring succour to all the families and friends affected. Oh Lord,only You can heal these wounds. You that permitted it to happen will surely know how to heal the affected. We ask for Your mercy Lord. Please have mercy in Jesus ' name I pray. Amen.

Sports / Andy Roddick Wins The Memphis Final In Style by Octupus(f): 11:17pm On Feb 21, 2011
I am yet to see a more sensationally executed matchpoint as that which Roddick had against Milos Raonic yesterday.Andy ended up bruised and wounded from the shot but still won the championship. His desperation and never give up spirit endeared him to the crowd.Kudos Andy!!

Yeah,Kim is a great athlete and a very humble player.Its interesting she is achieving much more after coming back from retirement than she achieved in many years at the WTA circuit.It just goes to show how key emotional balancing and happiness are in tennis.Even though she has lost the world number 1 spot to Caroline,I have no doubt she will pick it up again bf she finally retires. kudos Kim.

I agree with the poster who said "Suggest sombody better if you think Soludo has not performed".Let his critics suggest somebeody better,and then let's compare his pedigree and qualifications for this job,with Soludo's.

Quite frankly,Soludo is the only CBN governor,whose impact I have felt since I began to hear about CBN governors.(I am close to 50 years of age).Others,I only see their signatures on Naira notes.I never as much as see how they looked,talk less of what poilicies they had right or wrong.

It's unfair to jettison Soludo's laudable achievements in the past 5years because of one or two moves he's made which some consider unwise.No body is perfect,including Soludo.Before writing him off,I suggest his critics should do a critical appraisal ofhis performance in the past 5yrs in all sectors under his juridisction.

If you ask me,here's a brilliant young man who has really given his best for Nigeria.And we need to appreciate him.He was one selection OBJ had right and I wont be surprised if our current President re-appoints him.

Family / Re: Moving To Separate Rooms After Many Years Of Marriage by Octupus(f): 12:07pm On Jul 11, 2008
I think STEAMING has got it right.The fact that couples sleep in different rooms does not mena there is a breakdown in the marriage.It could be by mutual agreement.The can still meet in the middle of the night in any of the rooms, to perform their conjugal roles.

The reasons for separate rooms include amongst others,
1. Longer marriage means perhaps more money and more properties.The couple can build their own house and create more space to accomodate their personal stuff separately so as not to suffocate each other.Many times there is a linkage door to both rooms.

2. The man may wish to have a room double as a study and bedroom.So he can work late at nights without disturbing the wife.

3. The man may wish to view his favourite DSTV programs (e.g Premiership league)undisturbed.Dual channel subsrciptions allow the wife and the rest of the family watch family programs elsewhere.
Family / Re: Is There Any Man Who Hasn't Ever Cheated On His Wife? by Octupus(f): 1:35am On May 30, 2008
By the way,what are the criteria for deciding that a man is faithful? I have seen men whose wives will swear with their last blood,that their husbands are faithful,yet it is a lie! No one should underestimate the ability of two consenting adults to deceive.Men have had affairs with their wive's best friend right under their wives noses and they knew it not!!
Family / Re: Is There Any Man Who Hasn't Ever Cheated On His Wife? by Octupus(f): 8:55am On May 29, 2008
Folks,
Men,like all male creatures,are polygamous by nature.It's only civilization and religion that puts them in check.

If a man has never cheated on his wife,good.Let him continue to pray that he is never TEMPTED ENOUGH.Many who beat their chests that they have never cheated,its either they have not been tempted enough or they dont have what it takes to cheat(Cheating doesnt come cheap, most times.It takes physical and financial attributes).

Forget about all those stories of "holier than thou conducts" and spouses not hiding anything from themselves.The heart of man is desparetely wicked,who can ever know it?
Family / Re: What Makes A Good Wife? Wife Poll by Octupus(f): 7:57am On Apr 13, 2008
@chychy,
I disagree.It's not a man's world.Every thing ,every struggle a man does,is to please a woman somewhere.That woman could be his wife,girlfriend,mother,sister,concubine or even an acquaintance.But for sure,without the woman,the man has little reasons for hardwork.

Secondly,have you not heard that even though the man is the head,the woman is the neck that TURNS the head?

IT IS A WOMAN'S WORLD!!

@ajebota,

Family / Re: Caught Your Housemaid With Your Spouse by Octupus(f): 7:17am On Apr 02, 2008
Windywendy,
I just stumbled into this thread.I find it amazing how you are spending so much energy trying to convince some people on the seriousness of infidelity and God's opinion about it.I guess your arguments are pretty sound and clear.

However,I want to make the following submissions:
1. ONLY a man who has trully had a personal encounter with Christ can stay absolutely FAITHFULL to his wife.This is a fundamental fact every wife needs to understand.If a woman is born again and her husband is not,she needs to understand this especially.Therefore,as she continues to wait on God to touch his life,she may have to put up with a few things.Unfortunately infidelity may be one of them!

2. An unredeemed man who has the financial resources and is not impotent,is INCAPABLE and I repeat,INCAPABLE of staying with one woman,no matter how pretty or good she is.This is because,by nature,all male creatures are polygamous.(If you dont agree with this point,it simply means to me,you are insufficiently experienced in these matters).This ranges from Lizards to Cocks,to Lions etc,who control territories of females.Unfortunately this tendency is also innate in homosapiens(MAN) albeit suppressed by social restraints. That such an unreedemed man has not been caught commiting adultery does not mean he is not doing it.Dont forget that even looking at a woman lustfully constitutes adultery.So one asks- When do you say a spouse has been caught in adultery?? Note that it is only a Spirit filled man that has the ability to flee from fornication.

3. Painful as cheating is,a wife needs to understand these facts before taking a decision to leave her husband on the grounds of infidelity.The question is,when you leave him,do you plan to remain celibate the rest of your life or do you plan to re-marry? If you re-marry,what's the guarantee that your new husband wont be worse than the first.And if your worse fears are confirmed,are you going to run off again.Now,counsellors will ask you: HOW MANY TIMES DO YOU INTEND TO RUN FROM ONE FAILED MARRIAGE TO ANOTHER? And if you choose to be celibate ,what is the gurantee that you can handle it without sinning against God?

4. I totally agree that adultery is a biblically acceptable ground for divorce but remember,you dont always have to apply this right especially when it may not be expedient for your situation.Past records of one's husband must be taken into consideration.I dont believe an incorrigible,indiscrete adulterer should be put on the same pedestal as a one time offender.This of course,is the same basis for judges in our courts commuting sentences or giving paroles or even outright acquittals to some offenders.Secondly,genuine repentance from the offender should be carefully assesed and considered.

5. One should be very careful not to say NEVER when it comes to matters of adultery.I fear so much when I people say "I will NEVER commit adultery". When one comes across the "RIGHT" person under the "RIGHT" circumstances,carefully schemed by the ever patient devil,will power alone may be insufficient to save.That is why the bible advises us to FLEE fornication.Dont wait to resist it,why? because we can't.

6. In summary,there is a place for forgiveness in cases of infidelity and I know countless marriages where wives or even husbands, have forgiven there spouses and the marriages have been TOTALLY healed and they have moved on as though nothing ever happened.If you consider all the points I raised above,you will see that it is an issue to be handled with a lot of tact and wisdom.Not one to rashly decide on.Some things ought to be weighed carefully before opting for divorce,which of course,is one's entitlement.Pls dont get me wrong.Adultery is a serious breach of trust and must ALWAYS be viewed as such.

7. I WISH ALL OF US SAFE,TRUSTWORTHY AND BLISSFUL MATRIMONIES.

Computers / Re: No Internet After A Month Of Paying (Starcomms) by Octupus(f): 1:43am On Jan 15, 2008
Dear all,
I am surprised to hear there are other reliable networks and yet Starcomms can afford to mess up.I am a relatively new user of Starcomms.On two or three times,I could not get access for about three weeks after payment.Each time you call customer service,they promise they will connect soon,only not to do so.It was frustrating as I had very busy international correspondences to follow up at that time.I had just spent about 37k buying the EVDO,so I felt I should hang on with them cos if I changed network,what will I do with the EVDO card?

Anyway on one of the occasions they claimed they were upgrading their services.I saw nothing new thereafter.The connection speed is still pretty slow for EVDO in Ogba where I live!!

Someone just told me to pay at GTB or Zenith bank,rather than at their office,next time I want to renew subscription.I think they are discouraging payments at their office 'cos they have deals with these banks and the banks have to recover their money.They need the customers to do so!!

@AKTOPGUN.
I am glad and also impressed to see that you are a Psychiatrist and yet have so much financial education.For long Nigerian Drs have been shortchanged by the system which keeps them so "hopelessly" bound to their humanitarian jobs that they are completely shielded from such knowledge.You must be an inspiration to many other Nigerian Physicians reading this thread,who have wondered for years how and why their contemporaries(many times not necessarily brainier in class)have always done better than them financially.Thankfully,all that is gradually changing.The likes of u will continue to be an inspiration to them.Drs need to take a break and get some financial and biz education.(Their, often times, bewildered wives, will be better off for it!). Perhaps this should be inculcated into their training curricula.

I hope you are spreading the knowledge amongst your colleagues wherever you work.

Keep up the good work and many thanks.

Not good enough ma.Next time share with the house whether it’s a hunch/rumour or confirmed. You never can tell,someone in the house may be in a position to confirm and spill the gist for all to profit.

Thank God i didnt listen, went ahead and bought me a few hundred k units, and see how una dey praise the so called dead bank!

Thank GOD indeed, you didn’t listen! It's good to speculate on stocks, but no body can be as accurate as The Holy Spirit. All Christians on this thread should note that. So always pray over your trades. Dont just follow the trend.Let the hunch from God guide you. We will do well to depend more on Him, than any equity fundamentals or technicalities. Whoever looks at dividends? Looks to me the real issues are bonuses and stock capital appreciation.I agree with Father of 2. Bail out of OCEANIC thursday or Friday with your "kill".From 28+ to 37+ is pretty good,especially if you have sufficient volume.

@ALL
Concerning POs,I welcome everybody's comment on this report on OCEANIC BANK,lifted from one of your referral sites on theis thread.

"Oceanic Bank over subscription absorption: Matters arising

A few weeks ago, Oceanic bank announced that it received net proceeds of NGN 175 billion from its recent public offer, versus expected proceeds of NGN 55 billion (215% over subscription). Reuters Africa reported on Monday October 8 that the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) had granted approval to Oceanic to absorb the entire over-subscription. NS views this development as a near to mid term negative for investors in the public offer.

First, absorption of the oversubscription will result in significant earnings dilution as Oceanic bank will need to issue about 10.6 billion new shares compared with its pre-offer projection of 3.4 billion new shares. Consequently, pro forma fiscal year ended 09/30/07 EPS (incorporating total outstanding shares of about 22 billion) would be approximately 0.9x, implying a PE ratio of 37x at 09/10/07 closing price of NGN 33.3. Similarly, estimated forward 2008 EPS would be approximately 25x; higher (more expensive) than industry average of 20x as estimated by IBTC Asset management.

Second, it is very unlikely that investors in the public offer will partake in any dividend or bonus that would be paid to shareholders for the FYE 9/30/07, based on a statement in the offer prospectus that precludes any dividend payment to primary market investors if Oceanic fails to receive the offer proceeds earlier than three months before fiscal year end. Offer proceeds were only received last week.

Third, NS believes the new shares will not be listed on the market early enough for investors in the public offer to participate in the likely fiscal year end run-up of Oceanic’s stock price. The bank’s 9-month ended 30/06/07 results suggest that the company is likely to beat analyst and offer projections by a wide margin. Interestingly, the stock price as appreciated by close to 15% over the last two weeks. Unfortunately, it is unlikely that primary market investors would benefit from this price appreciation as their shares have not been listed and may not be listed before the ex-dividend date.

The development with Oceanic only goes to confirm the increasing undesirability of investing in primary market offers as compared to buying directly from the secondary (stock) market. It also highlights the impact of the shareholder unfriendly CBN/SEC policy of capital verification on primary market investors. Additionally, SECs continued policy of allowing issuers to absorb significant oversubscription, even when they did not plan for it in their offer projections, would likely result in a glut of shares on the NSE and eventually lead to a slump in stock valuations. The SEC must desist from offering concessions to managements that do not have solid investment plans and accurate investment forecasts. Sound corporate management requires that management conducts accurate capital budgeting (within a reasonable margin of error) to take advantage of available investment opportunities. The absorption of 215% of initial capital projections does not suggest sound capital budgeting."

wink
Well,if we weigh this report in the light of recent ugly experiences with some POs,it appears like sound advise for one to "shine your eyes" properly before investing in the next PO that comes knocking.I welcome comments.

Here's wishing a all house members,a happy and funfilled investing year.
