According to the OP, this is her first relationship, so it's not as if she has been a wayward girl. It's unfortunate she got pregnant out of wedlock but the right thing to do would've been to sit her down with the family and have a serious conversation with her about the next steps for her and how the family would support her, not beat her to a pulp.

Where I come from, a woman is not considered an adult until she is married. And the NPTJ never pointed out if that was her first relationship, and I doubt it is cos what made such a gal bold enough enough to go live with a stranger means she don't tear eye well well.

The beating was necessary, she messed up, as in, big time. The first daughter at that! As for the talking aspect, that's where the mother should come in. But how can you talk to a woman who has made up her mind to elope with a stranger? Obviously, the woman did a bad job raising that gal! She failed.

Obviously the man didn't have good friends, they would have advised him to go pay the gal's dowry and finalise the marriage rites. Was he even expecting to a hand shake when he was busy having sex with another man's daughter?

Sir, there is no coffee to smell, Igbos have been in the North since 1945 (go research it), Zik even grew up in the North. So...nobody is running from anybody. Secondly, Igbos didn't just wake up one morning to start hating the security operatives, the hate started when they started aiding terrorists in the land (again, go research this).

Even when innocent ipob protesters were massacred in their hundreds in 2017 (in think), there were no retaliation, just threats (which is normal for anybody that has lost one of their own in such a gruesome manner).

And mind you, those shooting and killing those police men are hired political criminals. The reason for the cheer by the masses is cos of the atrocities those security personnels have committed in the past. I will also cheer cos I have been a victim myself.
