Prevent the wild-fires. Keep the forests wet and damp during summer/dry season - drought seasons. How possible can this be? What makes wildfires spread so fast and dangerously so? It's very dry air/atmosphere, drought. When the weather is very dry and hot, it becomes easy for fire to start and spread fast, destroying lives and properties. It's why here in Nigeria, during harmattan season characterized by excessive dryness, fire incidents are very common. So why do wildfires spread so fast even when drastic measures are put in place to stop the fires while the fires are burning? These wildfires usually start in forests, in the midst of abundant oxygen. While humans breathe in oxygen and expire carbon dioxide, the reverse is the case for plants, trees. Fires will not start in the absence of oxygen. And when there is an abundance of oxygen in a place, coupled with other factors that make fire burn well like dryness of a surface or the material to be burnt; the fires burn well and when there is a congestion like in a forest, it becomes difficult to contain. Interesting to note also is that when a material is wet, it will be very difficult for fire to start. Take a wet matchbox for instance. Strike a matchstick against it. No matter how hard you strike, and inspite of the availability of oxygen in the atmosphere, it won't light up. Take a dry matchbox however and at the first strike of a matchstick, you get fire. This means that fire requires 2 things to be present for it to start: Oxygen and dryness of materials to be burned. Yesterday, I read about an article where President Buhari promised to help Turkey fight the wildfires and I remembered an idea that was laid in my subconscious on the wildfires while asleep some days ago. I decided to google the possibility of artificial rain (once read about this on Nairaland where it was reported that Dubai created artificial rain by leveraging technology) in preventing wildfires. The results that popped out were all about using artificial rain to stop the already raging fires. A forest fire that has already started and is spreading fast and wide may be difficult to put out by natural rain let alone artificial rain because of the intensity with which forest fires burn. The solution to prevent future recurrences may be employing a preventive strategy, and not a curative strategy. What I mean is that it's better to prevent it from happening altogether than wait for it to happen before looking for ways to stop it. Countries that are prone to having forest wildfires yearly should adopt using artificial rain to wet their forests at the start of dry seasons - summer, fall. This should be done constantly throughout the season until the rains start again or until it starts snowing or when the weather becomes 'wet.' As long as the trees and plants in forests remain wet/damp, even in the presence of oxygen, fires won't start. This is a good preventive strategy to prevent wildfires. Even though this method is expensive, more expensive are the loss of lives and properties so it's better to go for a method that is less expensive and has better outcomes. 2. Alternatively, they should create artificial dam reserves for their dry seasons only. Then during summers and dry seasons, water is released gradually through underground channels and other means like showers to keep the forests damp. It may not be possible to keep every part of the forests damp. However, they can make sure that the forest extremes from every angle, entry point are so damp/dense with water that when the fires start, it's contained within the forests. The downside of this is that the intense heat can dry out the damp trees and eventually, they catch fire too. So it's best to try to keep the entire area damp. It will cost a lot of money to do this but this is nothing compared to the loss of properties, wildlife and human lives that these wildfires cause. dauddy97:Sorry about what you are passing through even though I am wondering what Haemorrhoids have to do with impregnating a lady...The symptoms about your sex life may be something unrelated. Please visit a specialist hospital... |
NELLY1990:do not mislead people please. Even religion doesn't work in isolation. He should visit the hospital and back up with prayers for any medical condition. Sometimes, religion complicates things when we don't apply sense to things. What if a 'fake' pastor decides to use broom to cast so called demons from him and a part gets into the site of the growth and gets infected? |
stineb1:I saw too many of this during my surgical posting in BPSU unit. He still has to visit the hospital though. His history and examination of the mass will confirm the diagnosis. When he gets operated on, the excised mass will be taken for a laboratory test. |
dobaduro:. Some comments on this nairaland are strange. Dear, please do yourself a favour and visit a tertiary hospital like Luth, Uch, Oauth, Oouth etc... depending on your location. Just visit any specialist or teaching hospital (also specialist) closest to you. You will be referred to experts. I wish you well... |
2extremes:OP, this is a lipoma. The diagnosis is usually clinical, you don't need any specific test whatsoever to arrive at a diagnosis for this. It requires minor surgery. You will even be awake while they remove it though under local anesthesia. If you are in Lagos, visit Luth. You have nothing to worry about too because it is a benign growth...sellah! |
Hello, do you have expert knowledge on creating excellent animations? 2D or 3D? I am working on my first movie length Animation project centred around medical themes. I am animating myself, however, I need to partner with other Animators. It is a very impactful project. If you are interested in being a co-creator on this project, send me a message or simply reply here. |
Sofistcatdmoron:As a matter of fact, it came quite early or unexpected. Last year, the PG exams were not in July. Moreover, Unilag just released the exam timetable about two weeks ago...The lady has no blame here. |
GrabHisBalls:Don't be quick to castigate people dear... I am sure this wedding date must have been fixed since last year...Unilag on the other hand just released their post graduate entrance exam time table last two weeks or so. Last year, Unilag didn't even write their PG exams in July, it was quite late...I think September or October, not sure...So you see, she must have factored that in. Or do you think if she knew of the exam date before fixing her wedding date, she would have still gone ahead to pick the same day with her wedding? Which woman would want that. This was just an unforeseen circumstance. Never be in a hurry to judge what you do not understand. |
Hmmm, this was common in unity schools back in the day. This particular senior used to wake us up in the middle of the night to punish us over something as flimsy as we didn't come first during Saturday inspection. Many times, she lined us up to flog us on our backs, very heavy strokes with hangers. If I knew what I know now about the anatomy of the human body, I would not have allowed her. Worse cases happened in government boarding schools. I don't know about now. This case is very glaring. I see that she is guilty of what the school accused her of from all that her Father narrated. At the same time, the school exaggerated some things. It is clear the school took the stand to pacify the parents of the punished students. I hope they would have taken this same stand had the parents not raised the alarm against Demilade? As for Mr Malaolu, he should use this opportunity to get closer to his daughter and teach her how to be humble. |
Buckubuck:Yes, very okay (at least WHO recognizes it). However, you still need to brush with toothpaste because of Fluoride...If it were the days when we still got water supply directly from water corporation, you could be certain that you had a fluoride source...most of these sachet & table water are empty...so best you stick to brushing with fluoride containing toothpastes. The ones I mentioned are within W.H.O's recommended amount. |
Angelfrost:Alright, I saw where you were coming from though...have a pleasant time |
Laeroy:Lol, welcome dear... |
Angelfrost:When people group Nigerian girls/ladies, I wonder if they also remember that the Nigerian population is made up of almost 200million people and about half this population are females. Now that is about 100million. Of these 100million, more than 50% are youths. I presume that when you say Nigerian girls, you are referring to about 50million girls. Now my question to you is, how many girls do you know and see? I bet you won't count up to 1,000. You won't even count up to 200. My point is this, let us stop generalizing and grouping females especially. There are millions of people who still buy and use standard creams and bath soaps. That only a few bleach doesn't mean everyone bleaches. Moreover, if Nigerian girls no longer buy Nivea, Dudu Osun and co, how come these products are still in the Market? |
BRRR:Many thanks. |
Iamsammy:Lol, funny...I see what you did there...I push for personal hygiene because I am a medical student. These things are easy, personal hygiene is easy. You do not have to break a bank... |
Buckubuck:I am an oral hygiene advocate dear. I also take my personal hygiene very serious. I read wide too. |
Body or Mouth Odour is not the end... Anyone with one or both should just step up his/her personal hygiene. Use good bath soaps, don't go about using all those liquid gels or shower gels... I recommend: Eva soaps for their great scents Dudu Osun for those who prefer Natural For Body cream, avoid using bleaching cream. I recommend: Any Nivea cream Palmer's Revlon Jergens Or Shea butter (Ori) with coconut oil or olive oil. Use good deodorants/roll-ons like Enchanter (avoid the one with licorice), Nivea. Also use good perfumes (avoid spraying on your skin). Then, most importantly, BRUSH TWICE DAILY with good toothpastes. I recommend: Pepsodent Oral B Sensodyne Or any other good toothpaste. Also, watch what you eat... |
This is barbaric... How do people even believe these things? Just how?!!! |
This is prolly the title of his new single...I love his marketing style... |
QueenSekxy:I am sure he knew better. Your comment is insensitive. Even Ukraine that has a large number of Blacks still has some of her citizens being mean towards Blacks for no reason let alone one of the so called 'stans'...it is sad our Countryman went this way but I am convinced he didn't ask for it knowingly or otherwise. May his soul rest well. |
Trippledots:I remember throwing up in my dad's car too but I realized early enough that cars with A.C and air freshener trigger my motion sickness...I haven't gotten over this still, I try to avoid cars with air fresheners and AC...I prefer natural air in moving cars |
Thank God for His mercies...I rejoice with the couple and pray for the safe return of the lost kids...I am sad however that despite the emotional pains they were going through at the time, our security force still collected 50k from them...for what actually? |
Evangkatsoulis:Wikipedia is very very easy to edit which is why it is not advisable to reference it in School projects and assignments. What is worse, even with your registered username to login to edit, you are still anonymous hence can't be traced...If the process was very tasking and required you to submit personal I.D for verification, a lot of people won't have time editing 'rubbish' into other people's profile... |
abbeyty:What if he felt it was just a normal stomach upset? What if the lady wasn't showing signs yet? What if both of them ate so much they thought it was symptoms of mere 'purge'? So many what ifs? So don't conclude...No body will know they are faced with death and not cry out for help, no one! |
sweetilicious:The surgery is a risk. I have had the surgeries done on my legs…Let me just say, ‘thank God’... I pray for her every time I remember that God shouldn't make it result to that...I seriously pray it straightens on its own. |
apelike1:Insensitive! |
deomelo:Ha ha ha, you had to even add pictures |
About the "Fake it till you make it", I think the person who coined the sentence didn't mean it the way it is being interpreted. True. I used to be very active in Paulo Coelho's Facebook page because I loved reading from him. I remember him posting 'Fake it till you make it' in one of his posts one day and I commented that I am surprised that came from him, I asked if he was encouraging people to be who they were not. Then one of his followers replied me and actually explained it in its actual context. Far different from how we see it. Of a truth, the explanation made sense but I didn't store it in my long term memory because then I was still holding on to my own understanding of the sentence. Modified: So I just looked up results from google for 'fake it till you make it' and I enjoin you all to try to read up the meaning. It actually means something good, more in line with the explanation given to me by one of Paulo's followers. Please, let us clearly understand the origins of certain things before representing them as bad. |
