Are you people even considering the fact that he may have been suicidal before the whole result ish? Fine, suicide isn't the way but what if?!
What if he was being blackmailed for something? what if he had other issues? What if he was under some kind of pressure he couldn't tell anyone about? What if, what if...we do not know. Stop insulting his memory. You do not know what he had bottled up until enough became enough. It is sad though, rest on.

Let us drop the insults. People go through things o...Aiye le o, not everyone is mentally stubborn to weather the storms of life.

They are not referring to Medical doctors here. They are talking about other Schools inside LUTH like the school of Health information management, school of post basic nursing and so on. There are more than 5 of such schools inside LUTH. College of Medicine, LUTH is under the University of Lagos. If they were referring to Doctors, you won't miss the word 'Induction'.
Nairaland GeneralRe: Something Is Generally Wrong With Nigerians!!! by OdiaI(f): 9:51am On Oct 22, 2018
It is about what has been learnt from cradle. I am of the opinion that we can use our Schools, from kindergarten especially to begin this change process.

Our School curriculum need total overhaul. Environmental studies should be introduced to Schools. Children should be taught everyday about how to safeguard the environment. There are many things we should start teaching our children from School.

It is our mentality that is very poor and we need to catch the young ones early before they catch the poor mentality too.

This is highly unnecessary. I can't believe we channel our energy on trivial issues like this. How then do we expect our fathers and grandfathers in Aso rock to create spaces for us.

Youths who should be bombarding our elected everyday in solidarity to cause a change, the change we truly deserve.

They are busy arguing about irrelevancies. There is trouble ahead, no one seems bothered.

The west and her leaders are trying their best to help us contain problems that may arise in future if we continue with the way we are going. Our leaders don't care. The ones that do are not given any audience.

Nigerians better wake up. Now is the time to act, tomorrow may be too late.

FamilyIs This The Most Guarded Secret Of All Time? by OdiaI(op):
The most guarded secret of all time.

Did you know?
Working in any Coca-cola Company worldwide will not make you know what the major ingredients in Coca cola are (which is known to be the secret formula). Yes, you read right. Now that is the most guarded secret of all time. I am in Awe as to how this secret formula by Coca cola has not been discovered by anyone. Or could it be that there is no secret formula and this fact in itself is the secret?

Coca-cola has many production plants all over the world, many of which are franchised, including the Coca-cola plant in Nigeria. The Concentrate that is mixed with other ingredients like water, sweetener, preservative to give the final product is shipped from outside Nigeria, right from the Coca cola headquarters. This same concentrate is the same that is shipped to every other Coca-cola production plant in the world. Same source of concentrate. The secret which no one has been able to unravel lies in this concentrate. My question now is, how is it possible that since the conception of Coca-cola, no one has been able to say what the concentrate contains?

It is possible that there is really no secret to the concentrate which is listed in the ingredients of any Coca-cola drink as 'Natural flavours'. It may just be a facade after all to keep people guessing all the time. Kudos however to those in charge of guarding this 'secret'. I often wonder what the recruitment process is like. Like, will you swear an oath?

I haven't tasted Bigi Cola by Rite foods before but a woman I met who is in the know of operations in major beverage companies in Nigeria said with certainty that Bigi Cola is the only Cola drink that has ever come real close to tasting like Coca cola and that is why they were able to hold a large market share within a short time of introducing their products into the market. I disagreed though on the fact that they came in when Coca cola products became expensive but she insisted that if Bigi cola didn't give a closer taste alternative, Coca cola would still have people buy despite the price increase. I agree though.

Whatever it is though, kudos to the founder of Coca-cola, Dr John Pemberton and the businessman who took over it years later, ASA Griggs. Coca cola remains the most consumed beverage in the world. He gave Coca-cola life and this is why, despite his death many years ago, Coca-cola still stands - alive! He built a legacy that lives on. Same with the founders of Nestle, Unilever, GSK, Cadbury etc. The founders are all dead but their Companies live on, marching on to eternity.

FamilyNigerian Politics And Democracy: Who Is A Youth? by OdiaI(op): 4:54pm On Sep 16, 2018
A clearer understanding of who a Youth is as provided by the United Nations/UNESCO. There are a lot of arguments today on who a youth is, especially as the 2019 elections are fast approaching.

According to UNESCO/UN,

“Youth” is best understood as a period of transition from the dependence of childhood to adulthood’s independence and awareness of our interdependence as members of a community. Youth is a more fluid category than a fixed age-group.

However, age is the easiest way to define this group, particularly in relation to education and employment. Therefore “youth” is often indicated as a person between the age where he/she may leave compulsory education, and the age at which he/she finds his/her first employment. This latter age limit has been increasing, as higher levels of unemployment and the cost of setting up an independent household puts many young people into a prolonged period of dependency.

When carrying out its Youth Strategy, UNESCO uses different definitions of youth depending on the context.

For activities at international or at regional level, such as the African Youth Forum, UNESCO uses the United Nations’ universal definition.

The UN, for statistical consistency across regions, defines ‘youth’, as those persons between the ages of 15 and 24 years, without prejudice to other definitions by Member States. All UN statistics on youth are based on this definition, as illustrated by the annual yearbooks of statistics published by the United Nations system on demography, education, employment and health.

For activities at the national level, for example when implementing a local community youth programme, “youth” may be understood in a more flexible manner. UNESCO will then adopt the definition of “youth” as used by a particular Member State. It can be based for instance on the definition given in the African Youth Charter where “youth” means “every person between the ages of 15 and 35 years”.

FamilyThis Can Be Done To Help Entrepreneurs Overcome Erratic Power Supply by OdiaI(op):
Light has been a major need to smoothly run a business in Nigeria, however small it may be.

Many businesses have folded up because of how expensive it is using power generators to provide light. It is a really big problem affecting the Enterprise space.
It is not easy running a business in Nigeria because of the epileptic power supply. A lot of people have great plans for the Country especially in tackling unemployment through Entrepreneurship. It is only an enabling environment that can keep people in Business. As it stands, power supply in Nigeria is unstable and not reliable at all.

Something can be done to address this issue for small Businesses. The great Chief Obafemi Awolowo during his time established Farm settlements in the Western regions for training of young and old farmers and for the production and distribution of farm products at affordable prices. The settlements were located on large expanses of lands with houses and farms equipped with mechanized machineries for the ease of farming and of course light was not a problem.
The farmers were only required to pay a small token every year.

Chief Obafemi's government also established and ran efficient and productive Industrial Estates in Ikeja, Yaba, Ibadan, Benin, Warri, and Asaba, as the main industrial hubs of the then Western Nigeria. The government set up WNDC to establish various industries, agricultural plantations, in cocoa, rubber, commercial trees, cashew, palm tress and fruit trees." (source: google)

Same can be done for young entrepreneurs today by establishing industrial production settlements with the same objectives as the farm settlements where LIGHT is made CONSTANT and each person is given production units to make production/distribution very easy all at subsidized rates. This will make more businesses sustainable and also create more employment.

She will still be able to work there very well. Many illnesses present with similar symptoms...what I think is the mistake here is that there was a delayed diagnosis for the sepsis. He was being treated for something else probably…

Stop it. This woman is very competent. The death was neither deliberate nor intentional. If she was not a good doctor as in skilled doc, you can bet she would have lost the case. EducationQuestions Aswered by OdiaI(op):
I got messages from people who wanted to find out how I manage business and medical School effectively after my story was shared on Nairaland. I have answered some, I couldn't answer some because I was typing the same answers repeatedly so I decided to answer the questions at once and share the link with those I am yet to respond to their questions.

I will use this person's questions as a guide since it covers all the questions and is the same set of questions I was asked:

1) After your first degree, did you go on to do NYSC?

Yes. I did. I wanted to continue immediately with medical School but the Schools I applied to refused granting me an admission because I didn't have my NYSC discharge certificate. It is a directive of NUC and Jamb.

2) What was it like for you studying for jamb and since you had a first degree, why didn't you apply through direct entry?

I never wrote jamb after my first degree. The initial headline used to report the story was misleading and false. I only wrote jamb twice before my first degree and I passed both. I needed to change Course and that was the reason why I wrote a second jamb in 2009. Prior to this, I was a student in Uniben. My first jamb in 2008 got me admitted into Uniben.
After my first degree, all my applications were through direct entry and you don't write jamb exams for direct entry. Catchment area, NYSC, 2nd choice etc delayed my direct entry admission, not jamb.
I was surprised when I saw the headlines in several blogs that I wrote jamb six times. It is completely false.

3) What advice can you help me with that can enable ___ source for funds for medical school?

There are so many available options. Luckily, medical school in Nigeria is one of the cheapest if not the cheapest you would find in the world.
I don't know where your strength lies or what your skills are but trust me, if you have a talent and put it to good use, it will pay off.
Speaking for myself, I have made money from writing CV's and resumes for people and I got all the clients online. I didn't have to break a sweat to get jobs. There are so many people who are ready to pay for services like writing, graphics design, tutoring etc online. I put a stop to the writing service because it was eating deep into my time. And No, Fiverr doesn't work for me, I got all my clients from normal online interactions and I had referrals too.

If you are good with graphics, go for it.
Another way I get funds is through my personal business but I must say if you are not extra careful with time, you may lose it completely. I wouldn't advice a medical student to be involved in a business that involves operations though I am doing it. I had it all figured out before I got in.

Let me tell you some online businesses you can do that can get you funds if you understand the basics:

a). Selling information - This is very easy. A lot of people are on the blogosphere looking for answers to a lot of questions, identify the problem and if you have the solution, sell it. It can be in form of E-book, Video, audio, webinars, course package etc.
I only sell E-books, I haven't tried the rest.

You can buy the rights to an information based product and resell. Do your research properly to know how these things work.

Just find a problem and provide the solution.

b). Health products marketing - I have no interest in this but trust me, it is profitable if you get it right.

c). Affiliate Marketing - It takes time but it is profitable if you get it right.

d). Real Estate Marketing - You don't need to be involved physically. It works like affiliate marketing. All you need is your phone and internet then find the right real estate companies to work with.
You can do more research on this online.

e). There are other options like photography. I don't know anything about this but trust me, there is money to be made in photography.

f). Personal business of any kind that won't affect your study time.

g). Scholarship!

4) How do you cope with working and _____ the ____ of medical School?

It is simple. Focus on what matters. Plan your time well. Organization is key. I don't involve myself in any activity that will take my time. No school or departmental politics or activities that consume time. Just business and school. The time others use in going to parties or meetings that last long or anything that eats into one's time, I use it to study. I don't mix business and study time.

5) What inspired you to pursue a second degree in Dentistry?

I would rephrase it to 'what inspired your choice of study?

I first had an interest in the medical sciences when I was eleven and got admitted in the hospital for about three months. Prior to my admission, during my admission and post admission at the hospital, the whole experience was great for me and I started telling everyone I would like to be a Doctor. Even though at a point in secondary school, I changed plans and wanted to be a Lawyer because of my love for literature in English and the fact that I was excelling in it. But I still wanted the medical sciences and that was what informed my choice of Biochemistry, hoping to cross over with it in 200 L but it didn't work out and I had to finish. Biochemistry is both Industrial and Medical. I was exposed to both in School and somehow, I got interested in the food and beverage industry too. My seminar presentation in my final year informed my business decision. I presented the topic: Anti inflammatory activities of Bioactive compounds in plants. This topic made me to research more on plants and I realized that a lot of plants are under promoted. So I started the Natural drinks production business to promote these plants.

So that is it.

I hope I have been able to answer all the questions properly.

Chao!

My friends, i became useless. No
good clothes, no property, no
certificate to hold in the end. While my mates left for class, i go to
the virtual store to watch others play. From 2014 till now i stayed in school,
3 years of it was allocated to virtual
gambling. 1 year was to hang around
chasing girls. I became unpurposeful. I lied to everybody that i was in
school while i was not. If i should continue writing, nairaland
would not be enough to write what
virtual has done to me. My life is useless now, my mates are
graduating. All my friends have left
the school. So last year, i could not hold on to the
lies much longer because final year
was fast approaching.
What will i say then. So i took the
courage and broke the sad news. I am from a very responsible home. I
was accepted back in the family. My
mother cried so much. She could not
believe 4 years of my life wasted. My
friend, i almost developed high blood
pressure. I started masturbating to relieve my
stress but never helped.
I have sent you an e-mail, try as much as possible to reply. Your life is not over. Four years is okay to learn whatever lesson you want to learn in life. You can still get it right. okay?
