It's unfortunate that the so called "cattle-rearers" have been able to singlehandedly overshadow, dominate, and conquer you politically in such a way that you'd vote anything except them. I think people are too used to complaining "bad government" that they can't tell the difference between a progressive one and a useless one. It's a pity. Oh Nigeria, why? T8ksy: |
Also, Ori ihe Ori ihe is a salutation given to women since they eat alot. Chinenye, I've been meaning to ask you, is your Username full Chinenyenwa? ![]() |
sheyguy:The Igbo candidate doesn't necessarily have to come from PDP. There's still APGPA. |
T8ksy:Incase you didn't know, atleast means no less than. I didn't say that those would be the only states. And where did I say Anthything about Lagos being 75% Igbo? This is a modern world and you do not have to be my ethnicity for me to win your vote. GEJ is not Yoruba but yet he still won the majority of the votes in all if the SW except Ekiti. |
The ball is in our court, all we need to do is dribble. Gone are the hate-filled years of the 70s, the uncertain years of the 80s, and the strict military rules of the 90s, Nigeria is now a nation in which any group can grow politically. A perfect example of this is GEJ who, despite being a "minority", was able to overcome and become leader of Nigeria. Nonetheless, Igbos being a "majority" are also capable of seating an Igboman on Aso Rock. I think that if a honorable and worthy Igboman/Igbowoman vies for election, He or she will win atleast the SE including Delta, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Cross Rivers, and Lagos. |

Nnike- means by force Arinze (Amarinze)/Alinze (Amalinze)- means thanks be to God. Chioma- means good God or lucky Obi- is a name given to first sons. |
Nayah:Good morning, Nayah. You know if anything, I'd day that food is abundant now than it was then. Asian rice, potatoes, chickens and etc all came after that time period. Maybe there are just a large amount of mouths to feed but the same amount of food. Who knows? |
freecocoa:What I mean to say is that back then, people didn't need mosquito nets, mosquito pills or mosquito spray to survive. And also consider that at that time, most people went about "topless" so that ought to suggest a few things. This was also one of the reasons why Africans were sold of as slaves to work in the mosquito-infested Carribean. I'm bit saying that people never died from it, but not in the amount we see today. |
I've been wondering, how did we [Africans] lose our resistance to tropical diseases such as malaria and yellow fever? 200 years ago, we were virtually immune to these diseases and now they continue to claim lives. |
@ Ify Honestly, I dont know what the Okonko age grade is and I dont think its related to the Okonko masquerade. I think Chinenye will be better fit to answer your question regarding Okonk age grade. Also, the Okonko masquerade is a very dangerous and solemn masquerade. It is only worn by Ekpe members during special ocassions and is dangerous in that it is notorious for whipping people, and the wearer also loses control of himself. Unfortunately, I oculdnt find a picture of it for you. Omu Aro is the universal emblem/wrapper of all Aro people. It is the cloth in the photos. The gun and sword represent the strength of the kingdom, the hands represent the unity of the people, the eagles represents pride, and the crowns represent our Eze.

Culturally, beeing thin is seen as a sign of illness or poverty. Anyways, last time I checked the problem in Nigeria was lack if food. Those with inward and deflated bellies outnumber those with protruding beer-bellies. |
Yeah, Ify is right. You know concerning Ekpe, when I was a small child, I once ran into the Okonko meeting hall in my village when the ekpe members were having a meeting. All of the members grew furious and started to chase me around but luckily I escaped. Lol. They pardoned me because I was a small child. ![]() |
Ify isi na wo chirigi Eze nwayni na ogo gi? Biko, nda Ava obodogi? Agamagariri Ebonhu! |
Yes we wear beads like all other Igbo people but the practice of putting feathers in hats isn't common, atleast in the mboko hats. Ekpe isn't a chieftancy title, rather a masquerade society. In Aro, we don't have chieftancy titles like "ozo" or "nze". In fact, we don't have any chieftaincy titles at all. With Ekpe, it is a very exclusive society. It's members wore special attire, danced the ekpe masquerade, and also danced the okonko masquerade which is a very dangerous masquerade. Despite the fact that it isn't a chieftancy title, an ekpe member would enjoy similar rights as an nze such as the right to special attire, a special place in social gatherings, and a large role traditionally in the community. However, Arochukwu isn't the only community with Ekpe. Arondizuogu in Imo state and Arochukwu share joint Ekpe societies so if one becomes an Ekpe member in one community, he will also be in the other. The Efiks, some Ibibio groups and I think the Ngwa also have Ekpe. |
No, Ikenne is for girls while Ikenna is for boys. But Ikenna means "the strength of the father" |

@ NRI PRIEST What does it take for one to be titled ozo? I once watched a film in which a man had to pay 1 million Naira to be titled ozo. Is it true? |
yommysomguy:Yes, he's right. Arochukwu played a large role in the slave trade, but they didn't sell any if their own people. |
NRI PRIEST:Thanks."Odo" means "another". Usually for things that are said with a "z" we use "d". For example "nmiri na Edo". And no we don't have ozo or nze. We have ekpe. Ekpe is a very prestigious society in Arochukwu. Once someone enters the ekpe society, they can wear the "okpu ekpe" which is the black/white. Ekpe society members are honored and have a special place at social gatherings. They are the only ones who are allowed to wear the black and white "okpu ekpe" hats and the nsibidi wrappers as you can see the man in the ekpe photo wearing. They also wear that large knot around the neck. If a non-ekpe member wears any of these things, They will be fined by the community and brought for questioning. Also when an ekpe society member dies, he is rewarded with an ekpe masquerade and okonko dance at his burial ceremony. As for the other red "mboko" hats anyone could wear them. If there are any other questions youd like to ask, I'd be glad to answer them |
chimaobikanu:Mazi ndewonnuo! Ibu ezigbo nwa Aro, suwa okwu anyi! |
Is my Igbo that hard to understand :/? Anyway I said, if someone else had told me this, I wouldn't have believed it. So you meN that as a small boy you drank palm wine and wore the red cap while answering "ozo"? I'm not doubting you but j just find it amazing ![]() |

I personally find it rude to say something to someone which they wouldnt understand. But I said "Strong woman! You're showing off your people's Igbo" ![]() |
^ Yes. |
You don't have to be Igbo to enjoy Igbo films especially When they have subtitles. ![]() But Natasha, I never knew you watched this either. |
Lol it was last weekend but it's cool. Besides I didn't tell anyone. Thanks for the wishes though ![]() |
Oke Igbo isn't a recent thing. The term was established in the 18th century after Arochukwu went from a Kingdom to a Confederacy. I used both "ozo" and "odo" because I didn't want to keep repeating the same word. However, "odo" is our dialect. "Nye" is also our dialect and means the same thing as "Nwuye". Thanks for the interest. |
