I have noticed a trend on NL as a non-Igbo.
[li]Igbo man opens a sob thread[/li]
[li]Eko Ile and his crew pop in and starts crying foolishly about Lagos[/li]
[li]Their supporters join in the "Lagos issue" and it becomes a free for all[/li]
Can we just stop stirring up these ethnic issues?
This is really a smart post. Whenever some intellectual progress is being made in any matter regarding the East, or Midwestern people, Lagos is brought up and the whole topic changes. Honestly, it is really boring to have to revert to this Lagos matter all the time. Lagos is nothing more than a commercial center where people go and sell goods/do business/take advantage of the large consumer population and then go back to their home towns nothing more, nothing less.

I thought Igbo people are not supposed to have kings:

IGBO ENWE EZE: THE IGBO HAVE NO KINGS
Igbos have kings while Igbo has no king. See the difference?

I now recall when you guys made those exampls. My Igbo is of the Anambra dialect, but I understand the Imo Igbo very well, when spoken.
I somehow knew that you were from Anambra. Anambra/Enugu Igbo is well known for adding "go" to words. And I'm from Abia, but I guess you could say Abia and Imo dialects are very similar.

TV/MoviesRe: Nollywood Inferiority Complex: Portraying Traditional Religions As Evil by odumchi: 10:20pm On Oct 16, 2011
@ OP that's not always the case.

In modern Christian-oriented movies, Traditionalism is operated negatively most of the time inorder to attract people to Christianity.

However in pre-colonial themed movies, Traditional religions are exalted. Most of the time there are "good" native doctors and "bad" native doctors who are engaged in conflict against each other. One example of this type of conflict in a modern movie is "Pipiro". In this contemporary film, a guy living in Lagos is called to his village to serve as the native doctor and uncover the roots of events which are perpetrated by another wicked native doctor.
PoliticsRe: Nigeria Now 200 Million People :o by odumchi: 10:11pm On Oct 16, 2011
The population of Nigeria is very controversial. With up to 20 million nomads, millions more in remote areas of the country, and the suppression of accurate population records in certain states, we could easily have a large amount of people on our hands.

I thought 'Ahumgi' is more like 'I see you or I saw you'?

I did not see you, should sound more like, 'Ahumrogi', my spelling might be way off, but it appear you are missing the negation,
Generally, I think the idea is when you extend a vowel in a verb it means the opposite. Here are some example: "Ogbara" means he kicked while "Ogbaa" means he didnt kick. "Okwara" means he cried while "Okwaa" means he didnt. Based on what I know, Ahuumgi is "I did not see you" while "Ahurumgi" is I saw you".

CultureRe: Is The Igbo Language Dying? by odumchi(mod): 12:26pm On Oct 14, 2011
OP

O contrare. The Igbo language is doing the exact opposite of dying: it's growing by leaps and bounds. In Nigeria it is very rare to come across any Igbo person who cannot speak or even understand Igbo (I personally have not met any). Also let's assume that what you said about your friend was true, and so what? Does 1 person in that situation mean that Igbo is dying?

Also, the majority of the Igbo people reside in the East. In Eastern Nigeria, Igbo is spoken in courts, on television and radio broadcasts are done in Igbo. I really don't understand where you are drawing this argument up from.

I watched a documentary on the Ngwa and also looked at a few articles.
CultureRe: Ikwerre Names & Their Meanings by odumchi(mod): 11:26pm On Oct 12, 2011
I was told that the main Ngwa sub-clan were expeditioners from Umonoha somewhere around Owerre and hastily crossed the Imo river earning the name "Ndi ngwa-ngwa" and settled in their present location.

That's interesting. I was thinking that the largest subgroup of all could have had answers to origin, but come to think of it Ngwa were settlers themselves.

It's funny how you continue to rain down insults, parade your "Smarter than thou" attitude and then in the end say that you cannot hold a meaningful conversation with me.

I suppose every tiger knows how to sneak back into the bush and lick his wounds.

Im not concerned mainly about the population of the Igbos. What I'm concerned about is your claim that the West has more people than the East, and therefore deserves more states. It doesn't work that way.

aribisala0:
population has nothing to do with ethnicity it is about inhabitants

and that figure is the 2006 national census figure which has now been signed into law in nigeria, if you don;t agree with it you can approach the tribunal for example according to the figure i quoted lagos is 9 million . the state government disagreed and have gone to the tribunal but for now it stands,

those 8 states are 10 million more than the 9 in the east

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nigerian_states_by_population

i have not made it up and so far i have not disrespected anyone

let us continue to respect ourselves and avoid name calling
PoliticsRe: South East Govs Demand For 2 Additional States by odumchi: 1:19am On Oct 12, 2011
It's common added with the Internet. Igbos living in Igboland (excluding those outside of Igboland) are in excess of 30 million. Ijaws are 10% of Nigeria hence they are 15 million, Ibibios are around 4% so they are +-5 million, Efiks are around 3 million and other minorities are 2m. All of these groups are in the old Eastern Region and their numbers are substantial.

Also according to this 1953 UN census if Nigeria (which is the only widely accepted census of Nigeria),

Hausas were 5,548,542 17.81%
Fulani 3,040,736 9.76 %
Igbos 5,483,660 17.60 %
Yorubas 5,046,799 16.2 %

Ibibios 766,764 2.5%

Making the West 20.4% of Nigeria
And the East 25.6% of Nigeria.

Youre numbers make no sense at all. According to this, you're telling me the Old Northern Region has 100 million people ? huh

ChinenyeN:
'Dii to akhu Ngwa la i di ikwu' (So, what type of Ngwa do you speak?)

I maintain that people are really overstating the degree of inherent intelligibility. Urbanization, 'central Igbo', and 'watered down' dialects has made a lot of people very unaware of the inherent degree of unintelligibility. People are just assuming now that all our dialects are 'mutually intelligible'.

Ezeagu, the majority of people in that Enugu/Owerri-Ogwashi/Aro axis are Isu or Isu-connected.
Nna Igbo nke inyi atala akpu. I see a connection with my own "Nda udi Ngwa inasuje?" But I must admit there is are an interesting array of words found in what you wrote.

Igboland alone has 30+million people. Ijaws have 15m, Ibibios have 5m, Efiks have 3m, others in the East have 2m total of the old Eastern Region is 55 million. Eastern Nigeria is the most populated Region in the federation.
PoliticsRe: South East Govs Demand For 2 Additional States by odumchi: 5:14am On Oct 11, 2011
Most of the time, the Larger a state in land mass, the less development it receives.

Imagine it this way, there are two related families that both have 5 people and receive N100 daily for food. If they combine that will make 10 people feeding on food meant for 5.

Also the entire reason for zones and states is based on ethnicity. Ibibio amd Efik are very close but not the same hence they live in different states.
CultureRe: Ikwerre Names & Their Meanings by odumchi(mod): 2:59am On Oct 11, 2011
I couldn't interpret "Dii to akhu Ngwa la idi ikwu"

But I'm suspecting the ending "la idi ikwu" means "na idi ukwu" as in that you are great.
It's funny though that when Ngwa dialect was spoken to me by a relative of mine who lived in Aba, it seemed much more clearer and understandable than what you wrote. However, I must admit that the "urban" Ngwa which he spoke seems clearer than your, I presume, "interior" form.
