No mind these IRRESPONSIBLE beings here who come over to america to live on Credit cards and above their means, then turn around and blame it on America. . . as if dem force them. What happened to RENTING if you cannot afford to buy? Do they also need LOANS to pay rent??

I am with you . . . I had a friend, who on a mere CNA salary was able to buy his first house cash down out in Newjersey. He knew he could not afford NY and he knew it would be senseless for him to live above his means but he wanted to buy a house so he went down to Jersey to buy.

I can't believe someone even posits that inability to pay back loan is sensible argument against Nigeria. Most of these things would not even be offered a loan even if their lives depended on it, had they been in Nigeria. But they get the chance and instead of using it wisely, most of these misuse and then blame the system for allowing them that opportunity. I am so pissed that someone would even argue the way some of these have so far.
You know, youre replies arent needed. If someone fields an opinion thats different from yours just respect it. No need to blow steam and derail a thread by insults.

America's Native population is on a decline. Very few still cling to the old ways, few practice Animism, intermarriage has complicated things, and very few can speak their native tongues. I'd be surprised if there were 1 million Natives in America.
CultureRe: How Did The Populations Of The Igbo, Hausa, And Yoruba Come To Be So Large? by odumchi(mod): 1:21am On Jul 26, 2011
Cool down.

Theres no such thing as pure-breed Hausa. The original Hausa people were based in Sokoto, Kano and some parts of Souther Niger. Their population grew in the same process that i explained to you earlier, or atleast thats what i think. Hausa is spoken by non-Hausas all throughout West Africa. Who knows, in a few centuries they too might be fully "Hausaized".

But, i digress.

O'boy Lagos is not the movie capital of Nigeria. Most Nollywood films are shot in Enugu.

I won't bother discussing in this thread. I just wanted to point that out.

Richfella:
Hmmm, bros. Kindly check your facts. E no reach $1 Billion or did you mean to use naira? shocked
Israel's population isn't up to 10 million, so how do they have 13 million adults?
About Nigeria, that amount is only the amount of active military personnel. Nigeria has hundreds of thousands of reserves and if necessary can draft up to 90 million males (if they can be fed, trained, armed) and females. Egypt or Ethiopa have at most 20-30 million males each. Egypt has a limited amount of troops because Islam has certain regulations with women in the military.
But despite this Nigerias military is the largest in Africa.

kodewrita:
Its standard procedure in Israel to always alter the american f-16s they recieve with more high-tech accessories. They also have a national fighter jet called the Kfir( the original Kfirs were modelled on the french Dassault fighter jet) which is also very fast and specifically designed to handle Migs.

They are world leaders in drone tech too.

89k+ troops doesnt count as being the largest. Ethiopia has way more i believe (will confirm and edit this post). The trend in more advanced countries is to have a trained populace capable of fighting wars if given the necessary weapons and having a small dedicated professional army.

Example: Switzerland has been at peace for 300 years but this peace is guaranteed by the fact that every swiss male recieves compulsory military training and a package containing uniforms and a rifle always kept in an accessible location at home. Notice of an invasion would bring instant mobilization of the ENTIRE MALE POPULACE. Israel too. Young students spend a year in compulsory military training. If necessary, the entire adult population of this tiny 13 mil strong country can go to war if threatened. Thats POWER.

that is the Aro version of the war dance. It's the same as the Ohafia one but the only difference is the wrapper, in the Arochukwu one the warriors wear Omu Aro. Arochukwu adopted it from Ohafia since in the olden days, both of them were close allies.

You werent always Hausa you know. Your people might have been part of the Kanem Borno empire and migrated to Hausaland for several reasons. Islam has nothing to do with this. The majority of Hausas were Animists until Usman Dan Fodio launched his Jihad in the 1800s. Before then, only Hausa elite (kings, nobles, and the rich) practiced Islam.

It's highly possible that your people might have migrated to Hausaland after it's Islamatization explaining why you aren't muslim. Also, Islam doesnt preach forceful conversion so your ancestors might have chosen to remain animists. Generally the benefit of being a Muslim was exemption from taxes. But Pleeps right, more than Half of the now "Hausa" people weren't originally Hausa.

You can speak Yiddish if you like but it still drops to bare basics, you either have your culture with you ro you dont. Implementing foreign languages as an excuse for ethnic ulture doesnt cut it.

LOL, yes I was there already. grin

But I agree that the Ibibio, Efik and Annang can be the same. Their languages are slightly different and their culture is also similar. Yeah, its unfortunate that Pagan had to find out the hard way. Who knows what his ethnicity might have been before the pre-Hausa days. And how many ethnicites Nigeria might have had if these three different groups didnt unite so many different peoples? Maybe 1000+?

There's better stuff than f-16 I think. ( perhaps the f-22) And even if there isn't eygpt still doesn't have stealth bombers Military satelites and all the top secret stuff that I'm sure the u.s is giving to isreal.

If the isrealis haven't developed it themselves. undecided
The only nation that uses f22s are the USA and at 1Billion USD each, hardly anyone else can afford them. Besides the f22, the US's main jets are f-18s and I dont think they're ready to give those away just yet. So F16 will be flown for some more time.

Yinkay:
Just wondering where is Nigerian military in all this, what is our strategic military objective as a nation?
Nigeria has Africa's largest military in terms of "numbers". Egypt is arguably Africa's most experienced, and advanced military. Nigeria flies mig-21s, has virtually no heavy or medium tanks, but does have an exceptional air-defence organisation (SAMs, anti-aircraft airtillery etc).
Egypt flies Mig-29s and Sukhois, uses T-72s (whhich arent that great but are superior to Nigerian light-tanks) and has an excpetional air-defence sytsem like Nigeria.
Foreign AffairsRe: How Did The British Run An Empire With Such A Small Army? by odumchi: 4:31am On Jul 25, 2011
@ OP:
The British Empire expanded for several reasons.
The main reason was its navy. from 1588 to 1945, Britain had the worlds largest and strongest navy. The main purpose of the navy was to protect the British isles for invasion and also to further the interests of the British crown. Britian did not bother maintaining a large army becuase it had a small population and was an island.

The British were notorious for using foreign troops. All throughout the 18th and 19th century, the British used Hessian mercenaries (Prussian troops) as the backbone of their foreign military force and by the time they conquered Mughal India, Indian troops ebcame the main soldiers of Britain outside Europe and teh Americas. Britain, with its strong navy and large reserve of Indian troops, came to dominate over 400 million people at its height in the Victorian era.

Britains navy did not invest much in aircraft carriers and relied on battleships and cruisers in the second world war, which eventually caused the decline of its naval presence on earth. And as India gained independence in 1947, the brightest days of the British empire were foever gone.

You need to ask yourself why you have a stick up your arse there when it comes to OTHER people's liberties/rights to choose for themselves what they will cling to. And here I thought maybe by this time we have people who have learnt to respect the right of others to choose a different path for themselves.

A.D.M.:
The only real, true Americans are Native Americans. This land is technically theirs, so they're really the only ones who can lay claim to this land. Hey, did you know "black" is used in Britain? The first black folks Britain were from the English-speaking Caribbean and arrived in Britain in the 1950s due to a labor shortage (they're descendants of slaves from West Africa, too). The term was used at that time, a time when "black" was considered an insult in the U.S.

You keep making these claims about the term. Show me a survey or a study that corroborates your claim. I can't take your word for it without evidence. I really don't like it when people make a claim and don't back it up. And yes, black (U.S.) culture has been influential in astronomical ways (I'm a black American, too, so of course I know that to be a fact), but black culture outside the U.S. has also been influential. You seem very hateful and ignorant. Since you can't see why, I guess there's no getting that into your head. I guess you support the unjust wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and the drone bombings, too.

And "black" is still just a color, nothing more.
In that period, American blacks were called Negros or "coloured".Im sure they were happy to be called "black" instead of "negro"

BABE!:
OP: That one be small matter now. At least Africans can still manage "BLACK". The issue that angers me the most is not putting an option for the "mixed people". Very annoying.

Those yeye forms should either have the "mixed" option, or give the mixed people a chance of ticking more than one option.
You're right. I'm just happy to see that Im not the only one who sees this type of form a form of disrespect.

July 23rd was an exciting and fun-filled day for both the attendants and hosts of an Aro-Okigbo event in NY, USA. At this event, hundreds of guests from all over America and Igboland contributed to what is called "the hottest dance of the year" and some stumbled into Nollywood stars Desmond Elliot and Innocence. Both of these guests had made their unnancounced debut at the event to support Igbo culture, and the Arochukwu people in diaspora. Although, Desmond Elliot mysteriously slipped away a few hours into the event, the atmosphere was still very lively with dance and merriments, and the famous Aro-Ohafia War dance.  cool

Here are some shots of the event:
