Sincerely, I didn't know Nigeria's 419 has become this popular, to the extent that Obama referred to it in a public campaign! |
Adedibu doesn't control more than Ibadan. Saraki controls Kwara and Kogi, and no-push-over in the entire North(now chairman of Northern Union). Name any other Governor installed by Adedibu for Oyo after Ladoja and Alao Akala? Saraki has installed all the civilian governors that have ruled Kwara and Kogi since creation in 1967 and 1991 respectively. 1979-1983: Installed Adamu Attah(NPN). Saraki was in NPN then and senate leader 1983-1983:Adamu Attah fell out with him ,and he ordered that people should vote for UPN(C.O Adebayo). The rest is history. Attah, with all incumbency factor & ruling party lost to Adebayo of UPN 1990-1992: Shaaba Lafiagi of Saraki's SDP for Kwara and Abubakar Audu for Kogi, also of SDP 1999-2003: Lawal of Saraki's ANPP. All senators, house of rep(except Offa-AD) ANPP, including Gbemi 2003-2007: Lawal fell out with Saraki and with his incumbency factor, he lost to Saraki's PDP(Bukola). Gbemi now Senator 2007-2011: Bukky himself had come of age. Didn't need his father again. Which politician can beat this in Nigeria? Adedibu was not in AD when Lam won in 1999. Saraki's candidate has never lost in Kwara and Kogi |
bilymuse:Scientific politics and Political science are not the same. Political science refers to the study of the state, government, and politics. Experts in this field are called political scientists, not politicians. They do not necessarily participate in partisan politics, but knowledgeable in state, government and politics. Prof. Gambari is a political scientist Politicians participate in partisan politics. They seek power or assist those that seek power. You need not read political science before you achieve this. Just be charismatic, rich(in many countries), and maybe vocal. Adedibu and Saraki were/are politicians. Science basically involves doing things by experimentations, observation and calculations, such that it appears mysterious or miraculous prima facie, but just a rule of logic when probed deeper. By scientific politics, I mean politics that appears hard to imagine, but simply based on calculations, projections, insights, experience and logic, but only the player has the simple code(logic). Can you ever imagine the possibilty of having son and daughter as Governor and Senator at the same time. Complex to everyone, but simple for simple for the grandmaster!!! Saraki is a master in this regard!!! |
With due respect to Baba adedibu, I'll give it to Saraki. Installing two of his children as Governor and Senator at the same time is no mean feat. The first African to have his children as Governor and Senator at the same time. Saraki plays scientific politics. The major difference between him and Adedibu is that he rarely talks. He operates openly-silently, that is he makes everybody know this is his candidate and talks no no more. Recall in 1999, Adedibu, did not win Oyo state for his PDP. AD won. But Saraki delivered Kwara to his ANPP(Lawal) then, and before the next Saturday presidential election, probably angry that he was not given ANPP presidential ticket, he ordered that his supporters vote for PDP in presidential election. The rest is history. The PDP that lost gubernatorial election last week, won presidential the next week. Pls before you mention ruling party factor, PDP had not become a monster then, didn't have power at the federal level. Saraki was in CNC in the Abacha period, and his party won Kwara and Kogi in all the elections held. In other words, Saraki doesn't need ruling party/federal might to win Kwara and Kogi. Even if he was in Justice Party, he could have won Kwara. I doubt if Adedibu could deliver Oyo state to a non-ruling party. If anything, Saraki is even more consulted at the federal level than Adedibu. During the third term saga, Oloye was reportedly threatened to order the three Kwara senators to vote for third, or else the SGBN issue will be exhumed. He didn't, and EFCC dare not go near him. Saraki doesn't talk too much. He let election results do the talking!!! |
And the greatest criminals, looters, murderers and brutal dictators that ever lived Sanni Abacha Ibrahim Babangida Murtala Mohammed Suku buku Dimka All of them all illiterates with the brain of teenagers. --Morpheus Pls remove Murtala Mohammed from that list. He the best President Nigeria ever had. Take it or leave. Also to say IBB, bundle of wisdom, has the 'brain of a teenager' is most laughable. |
One thing I fear most is the loss of a dear one. Sure, I have lost not-too-intimate friends and other people I liked, but I have never lost a dear one. And I'm defining dear one here in the strictest sense-parents and siblings. |
Mikel is a Chelsea-class player not at all national class sef- Dr Kitaun A Chelsea-class player has higher class than a Nigeria(National)-class player. 75% of Chelsea's players are World class. Nobody will play in Chelsea and will not make Nigeria's national team, even First 11. So if Mikel is Chelsea-class, then he's more than national-class. As for his world-classness, take it or leave it, Mikel is world class(Class 3, as the starter of this thread put it).Mikel is respected globally. I stumbled on a thread on American soccer forum BIGSOCCER titled WORLD U-21 11 recently, and almost all the contributors from every part of the world put Mikel in their team. I was wondering, is this not our Mikel? Is he that good? This is one characteristic of world class players-global recognition!!! There are better players than him who will not be regarded as World class. This world class thing is not 100% about being good. Beckham is more World class than the level of his game. Finidi was the best winger in the world for 2yrs dwarfing Figo in the process . .yes ! but then how did he prosecute and end his career clubwise and internationally ? The way a player ended his career does not matter. What is important is how he fared when he was active, especially when the ovation was loudest. Finidi at Ajax made Nigeria proud, shining like million stars in Champion league and Dutch league, and that was the golden era of Ajax. Being an Ajax player then is like being a Madrid or AC player today i.e not meant for average players. He made his marks at Ajax so much so that the club's wing position almost became exclusive to Nigerian players as they his two successors at the club were Nigerians(Tijani Babangida and Ikedia). That is Finidi's legacy. He did not fare bad at Betis too. He is perhaps only second to Kanu in terms of club achievement. And unlike many other Nigerians who were not able to replicate their club performance at the national level, Finidi's performance in Green and White was even better. Nigerian players are known for either being excellent in national colours and fumbling at club level or vice versa, Finidi was one of the few Nigerian players that made their marks at both fronts. Who then is asking how he 'prosecute and end his career clubwise and internationally'? |
kingdavid1:Did you know the subject of this thread at all? We are talking about Africa's best 11, not Euro team of the tournament. |
Personally,I don't know where I belong in this Obi Exclusion debate. I can't say it's a bad decision but at the same I don't see it as totally faultless. Leaving Obi out,as a disciplinary measure, I believe, sends important message to other players(not only this team but at all levels) that no player is above punishment. Another strong case for Mikel's exclusion is that if he was finally included, he will surely get the automatic shirt, to the dissatisfaction of the midfielders that laboured during the qualifying series, causing division in the team. However, saying Siasia's decision is a great gamble is not out of place. It's a big gamble,I think. Mikel would have surely been of immense importance to that team. But if I were in Siasia's shoes, I would have demanded a written and published apology from him,not only to the coach and team but also to all Nigerians. After that, I'll include him in my list. P.S.:This decision can further make or mar Siasia. If the team don't have a good outing,Nigerians will situate the cause within his decision to exclude Mikel. Trust Nigerians!!! |

Diarra(Real Madrid,Mali) and compatriot Sissoko (Juventus), I think, also deserve a place. |

I always wonder how short-sighted Mikel is. Olympic would have provided him another platform to shine at the world stage, but maybe the guy thought he would still be named in the final team, even if he doesn't play in the qualifiers. Now Siasia has served him right and he has missed another golden opportunity to prove his worth,at least among his peers. I have read about the likes of Drogba, Ronaldinho offering themselves as 'over-age' for their olympic teams. I have seen the team list for Holland team, and the players are those that are well known in world football. Messi is going with the Argentina team. Please can anyone tell me what is wrong with this Mikel? |
I don't know much about Ife MBA but I have seen people who are rich enough to go for MBA in UK or at least Lagos business School going for Ife MBA. I have also seen several top CEOs having Ife MBA. It seems it's well recognized. But anything Ife has always been recognized. |
mahatma G:'Who are you?' and 'Let's meet you?' are two ways on asking the same question. Some other interviewers will put it as 'Tell me about yourself?'. They all mean the same thing. In fact the question is usually the first, and perhaps the surest question they will ask you in any interview. And as far as I'm concerned it's the simplest question. Being the first and usually simple, anwering it well makes you gain confidence, balance and composure and that will be a good way to start. The answer is simple because nobody knows you more than yourself, and you will able to flow well, but try not to lie as it can lead to inconsistency. Try to emphasize your achievements e.g I finished Secondary school in 1999 as the 2nd best student in my school or I graduated from UI in 2005 with First Class honours, but don't exaggerate or appear too boastful as some interviewers hate this and may want to question you further(e.g some of your interviewers may be a 2.2 graduate and may want to test you). A typical answer should be like this: MY NAME IS ADESARE OLUGBAGI I WAS BORN 23RD JANUARY 1984 (OR I'M 24 YEARS OLD OR I WAS BORN 24 YEARS AGO) I HAD MY PRIMARY EDUCATION AT IYANFOROGI PRIMARY SCHOOL,FIDITI OYO STATE WHERE I FINISHED IN 1994. THEREAFTER I PROCEEDED TO OMU IYA DUN SECONDARY SCHOOL, IWO OSUN STATE AND FINISHED IN 2000 AS THE BEST GRADUATING COMMERCIAL STUDENT. THE FOLLOWING YEAR, I GAINED ADMISSION INTO OBAFEMI AWOLOWO UNIVERSITY(NEVER SAY GREAT IFE) TO STUDY ECONOMICS, AND I FINISHED IN 2006 WITH SECOND CLASS UPPER DEGREE I HAD A BRIEF STINT AT ORIJA MICROFINANCE BANK AS ACCOUNTING OFFICER BEFORE PROCEEDING ON NYSC. I SERVED IN TARABA STATE AND FINISHED IN FEBRUARY THIS YEAR I'M CURRENTLY IN STAGE 3 OF ICAN MY HOBBIES INCLUDE WRITING ARTICLES AND WATCHING FOOTBALL. THAT IS ADESARE OLUGBAGI IN BRIEF SIR.(OR THAT'S MY PROFILE IN BRIEF SIR). THANK YOU It appears quite long and brevity is very important but this is something about you and you should be able to flow well, and I tell you,you can say all these in 2 minutes. You may even rehearse two, three days earlier at home so that you can perfect it.It's simply saying what you have on your PERSONAL PROFILE and other relevant things in your CV. Not necessarily everything in your CV,just key things. Now le's look at the areas I have boldened in the mock-answer I gave above: AS THE BEST GRADUATING STUDENT: It's a way of emphasizing your achievement. You are selling yourself.Bring in your achievements in relevant areas, but don't lie, exaggerate or appear too boastful or else you are inviting tough questions! THE FOLLOWING YEAR: You are indirectly telling them you were not a victim of JAMB. You gained admission into university the next year after finishing Secondary school. But if you are the type that had spent 5 years battling JAMB/WAEC English, then cover it as much as possible by saying something like 'I had my secondary education at xx sec. schl and my university education at yy university where I studied Economics and finished in 2006'. Here you were silent on when you finished S/school and when you entered University. You only mentioned when you finished University. However there is no way of escaping that in your CV as the YEARS you had your certificates are mandatory. But what you say,and not what you have on your CV, passes you in an interview, except where there is contradiction. But this is not contradiction,it's silence over a minor issue ECONOMICS,ICAN: Studying Economics and now writing ICAN may trigger, from your interviewer, another question like 'You are now writing ICAN, but you studied Economics, why didn't you study Accounting then' You may answer as: 'Studying Economics and qualifying as a Chartered Accountant makes me versatile. It's going to help me a lot. Both,I believe, will be of help to me if given this job. In fact one of the world's most respected Chartered Accountants,David Dafinone, studied Economics. Frankwood, the author of the world's most popular Accounting textbook, also studied Economics for his first degree. So sir,I needed not study Accounting for my first degree before I become a successful accountant'' I bet it, this answer alone can win you the world. OAU: Never say I finished from Obafemi Awolowo University GREAT IFE. Never first say it,as your interviewer ,if not an Ife product, may develop beef for because of it. But if after you say OAU and your interviewer adds GREAT IFE,just smile. He wants you to feel at home. But don't first go that way. If it's a one-on-one interview,he may even go informal and begin Ife gists,it is then that you can begin to talk about Ife,but immediately another topic is started,be business-like again. WRITING ARTICLES: This may trigger questions like:' What do you write on?' 'What do you do with the aricles?'In my case, this question is another opportunity to sell myself. I tell them(and truly too) that I have written over 40 articles that have been published in Nigerian national dailies, and I like to write on Economic, sport, and socio-political issues. But I always try to avoid anything political,as private sector organizations may not like activists/politically inclined people. Anyway,I'm neither an activist nor a politician, just like to comment on national/global issues. In my last interview(where I'm working now),I was asked whether I like politics, and I answered 'I don't like participating in politics, but I follow politics' and one of them asked me who was the new EFCC chairman, 'Farida Waziri'. WATCHING FOOTBALL: If you truly watch football, you may include it in you hobbies and may mention it when talikng about yourself, but don't ever first say you are a fan of any club. But if you are asked then say it. In my last interview for example, the lead interviewer(the company's CFO),towards the end, asked which club I support and I said Arsenal. Another member of the interview panel(who happens to be my very friendly oga now) asked 'why Arsenal? Why not Enyimba?' I smiled(even laughed) and said ' I support Arsenal in the Preniership but Kwara United, being an indigene of Kwara, in the Nigerian league, nad everybody burst into laughter. |

When I started this thread,I never knew it was going to become this popular. I was even surprised to see it pushed to the home page. Anyway it has been very interesting and a lot of facts(and little fabrications!) were exposed. We have seen logical arguments, bitter admissions and submissions, real and cooked statistics, etc. I'm a public affairs analyst and I've learnt alot here. Although the outcome may not be scientific, I believe the finding is still relevant and I may quote it in my future analyses/write-ups(something like, OAU students, arguably Nigeria's proudest and most bragful students, ) The hotly debated thread is declining in patronage and permit me to draw the following(half-scientific) revelations from the foregoing debate: -OAU is arguably Nigeria's most respected university(has the highest votes, even non-OAU people voted for it) -UNILAG unarguably leads the pack in terms of social life -The three schools, alongside UNIBEN(as many other posters acknowledged),arguably lead the comity of Universities in Nig. -The superiority battle between the three schools has existed for long, and may continue to be -Ife students and grads are Nigeria's proudest, most bragful and most intimidating -OAU leads in terms of structure(unanimously agreed--one funny guy even said he'll get a permanent house on OAU campus to be living forever when he returns to Nigeria) -A lot of respondents believe Unilag is not in the same class with these schools, and, insultingly, asked that it be removed from the list. -Academics Hmmm, UI and OAU shared the votes here. The outcome of the poll, where OAU led by wide margin,I believe, is an indication of RESPECT, which in addition to ACADEMICS, contains many other things like conducive learning environment, structure etc. So I have used the outcome of the poll to name OAU Nigeria's most respected Uni, but not necessarily the best in academics. A lot of people,in their posts, acknowledged UI for academic excellence too. It's a pity I can't count one by one the posts, but let me say its between Ife and UI-Another finding: The fact that Unilag students are highly socially inclined does not mean they are poor academically.Even some posters from other schools acknowledged that Unilag also has quality products Please do not hesitate to pick holes in my conclusions. Enjoy!!! |
Just to add this too: |

owee:Thanks very much. By the grace of God I'm already working. |
I'm tired of hearing 3m,4m as gross annual pay of companies whereas the the take-home pay is just N100,000 per month. A friend of mine for example works in Skye bank and she told me her employment letter read 3m per annum gross pay. That should, prima facie, be around 200,000 per month, but after all the deductions(tax, pension etc) she is left with less than 120k per month. I'm interested in monthly take-home pay of companies/banks in Nigeria for entry level. Nairalanders, kindly supply us with companies you know and their respective monthly take-home pays for ENTRY LEVEL POSITIONS. |
sherry lo:Sister Sherry,I understand. Being a female, you will naturally not want to share your husband with another lady. This is why most ladies don't want their husband to marry second wife, unfortunately many Muslim women with Islamic understanding also do this. Some people unfortunately bring weak argument that it is not possible to love and treat two women equally, so we cannot implement the Ayah that sanctions marrying more than one wife. Allah is our creator and knows all our qualities. The way out is simple: If naturally, you tend to like one wife more than the other, you can control it by trying not to let this reflect in your dealings with them. Treating them equally is something you have control over. So let all Muslims beware of the evil called MODERNIZATION that is gradually eroding our thinking. It's a pity you find some Muslims campaigning against polygamy, when Allah sanctions it. Since, monogamy is also allowed in Islam, why not stick to it if that is what you desire, but don't campaign against Allah's sanction of allowing us to marry up to 4 wives. There is no problem in marrying one wife, but recognize the fact that Islam allows up to 4 and it is very possible to treat all the four equally. If it's not possible Allah will not approve it.Allah doesn't place on us burden greater than what we can bear. |
Mukina, what of male list. Pls I want to know the exact meaning of my name. |
legba1:As the thread starter,I acknowledge this. But what the order is is the objective of the thread. In order to avoid bias,I have left out grads and students of these schools but they seem to have hijacked the whole thing. Only few independent posters have posted comments. The question again is: ELIGIBILITY:Are you a grad/student of schools other than those three? QUESTION: If yes, then which of these three schools would you have gone if they were the only Universities in Nigeria? |
