Angrygoat: Odeh. Better check for the level/guage for coolant reservoir, if u like turn all the coolant inside radiator with reservior. U go buy tokunbo engine las las when e overheat and gasket burn
he asked a sincere question you called him ode. is that really necessary? his question was not even directed at you.
AutoManual: for the past weeks or months i have been searching for a car on jiji.
my major determination is a car from the original owners that make a post. not the prices those car dealers a calling on jiji.
the few cars from the personal owners always sales fast because of pricing. my major problem was location, having price from them i couldn't go and before 24hours the car will be sold.
i manage to see one in my location from the personal owner. first i make call and arrangement met to inspect the car and we meet up somewhere.
although there are some things i think need fixing. car has been spread. but for the price I'm capped with i think it worth it. i was satisfy with with i saw at-least, the air condition blows well and engine abit sound but i wanted a mechanic to check the engine. i put a call to a mechanic but he was not around. so i rebook another time to meet this guy he told me the catalyst and thermostat are still intact. my concern was the people already making offer for the same car on jiji even more than my price. but i seems to be the serious and that's one thing i told the guy which he confirm but said others are coming to check it too.
my mechanic was available and he check it, the check the top gasket which was still intact. he check bottom of the engine and confirm oil there. he drive the car which move fine and gear select well. but a strange chock sound from the engine. the guy said its the engine seat. my mechanic confirm to me that the sound is not from the gearbox. he said it was from the gearbox it won;t have drive or select well. also he said if it was from the engine itself it wont have drive well too.
the car has custom papers and others. today we agreed to meet for the deal. he called me today to send me name and address to arrange change/transfer of ownership, he said he will only include a photocopy of the his driver license for me to go change the papers.
i don't even know the guy before where he lives or work. is there anything to be worried about?
how long those it take to arrange change of ownership he is yet to call me for the deal. its almost 12pm now and the guy has not called me to come over, the delay might be other people that are showing interest. maybe he is just try to get better bargain since he already secure me.
i need help
if you were really serious about sealing the deal, since you have checked and everything was good according to you why didnt you seal the deal immediately? what's the essence of going with mechanic for inspection, agreeing price with seller, checking papers only to not buy the car and then you come here to write story? you're now asking if there is anything to be afraid of? ofcourse if you really wanted to buy after all what you have done, you make payment and pick up the car. i have inspected several cars from jiji for several people and it is not rocket science. inspect, agree, make payment. it is beginning to seem like you are onluy making up stories for people to read. didnt you mention you were buying a car from the north the other day? now you are here again with another story
Victoronah1: I'm not sure. But I use torque app for scan. They say it can scan transmission as well. I'm only getting 02 sensor and powertrain
The systems of your car are much more complex than what that scanner can handle. which means you can't confidently rule out transmission fault until you do a full system scan. where is your location?
Victoronah1: My c300 is a mystery. I scanned the car using obd2 scanner and didn't detect any gear issues. So my car's gear is okay, however it won't enter gear until I push the panic button on the key hob and immediately it starts beeping and I unlock the car and put in gear, my car works. I noticed this anytime my battery dies, the car won't go into gear, and the panic won't work for a while, but immediately it beeps, then it goes into gear. But if I remove the battery and connect in the morning, automatically gears enters. I'm planing to change the transmission fluid tomorrow though
1. is your OBD2 scanner able to scan the transmission or just the engine? 2. you need to do a full system scan. somehow it sounds like you might have a CAN communication problem. probably when you press the key fob, it sends a wake up signal via the CAN network and that is why you can start it. this is just a guess. kindly start with scanning all the systems and then analyse the codes you retrieve.
mrcoolautofix: Sure the car is back lot of job done in attempt to get it back working, I just wonder how the car still runs with all that stabbing and butchering. But that's the thing I have one way to go, and that is getting it back working.
any picture or YouTube link to see what jobs were done? because all this one na just audio o
almsofgold: it affects fuel consumption a lot. It was after I plugged mine that I had peace of mind. Was doing 45 miles on ten litres before plugging, but got 77 miles after plugging. Stop misleading peeps
okoroemeka: which one be ESL,is it connected with the steering wheel?if it is programmed that means it is a module for the steering wheel!!what the hell, how does steering effect emissions, this is pure planned obsolescence,to make cars that last the warranty period and it will start to fall apart.
bros you just dey vex anyhow... hehehe. no worry God go bless you wella na only latest motor you go dey buy
autologic: I have handled alot of German vehicle and my experience is that you don't even need any Bosch scanner to have access to all the modules on the vehicle network ,most professional scanner eg autel , launch etc can handle them well with ease .And i need to further emphasis that scanner are mere data retrieval tools and useless if u don't have the core foundational skill and the core skill is knowledge of principle of operation and u will need to have the some foundation knowledge of sciences especially electrical, mechanics ,thermodynamics etc to understand all these jargon u will read about in all the workshop manual cos modern vehicle technology has upgraded over the years . For instance now , there is a thread (https://www.nairaland.com/6661079/speedometer-not-reading-honda-pilot) and the vehicle in question is still a Japanese brand that average nigeria feel that it not complicated ,inspite of the fact that i describe to the op of this thread vividly the logic route of the signal flow to the speedometer that is not working so that his technician can know have idea of where and what to troubleshoot, he still didn't get it except revert to their crude way of "part throwing to solve problem " Why ? he lack the foundation core skill and for that case i will conclude that It no use beating a dead horse . The basic difference between the Japanese and the Europe brand is that u have more signal flows paths cos of more modules ,the foundation architecture still remains the same nothing really have changed much if u know your basics . Also the auto repair industry is not attractive and rewarding enough to keep the smarts and bright one to stay , the smarts one will prefer to go for for attractive sector eg medicine or IT where their input and value will be rewarded correspondingly unlike auto where customer pay peanuts for highly skill troubleshooting and repair job , so how do expect semi illiterate artisan to understand basic signal flow fundamental talkless of troubleshooting Can network system So when the industry start get rewarding enough , maybe it will start attracting the bright ones .
okoroemeka: I just watched a repair video on YouTube of Scotty kilmer on a 2012 Volkswagen Passat,it has 45,000km and the wiper is not functioning,to even diagonise the problem you want need a German made Bosch obd scanner, not any Chinese scanner and the problem is a bad wiper module, now if I drive such a car in enugu or owerri do you seriously think I can get a car repair shop with the Bosch scanner,I don't think so
lol do you know Scotty Kilmer is biased against american and german cars? have you noticed he is always praising the Japs particularly Toyota & Lexus? See we fix VWs, Audis, Mercedes and BMW with Autel, Launch etc. it is not rocket science baba. it is knowing what you're looking for. and how to find it.
without scanner how will I diagnose & fix this problem you mentioned? 1.With a wiring diagram. check your powers and grounds to the module. Ensure you have a good wiring integrity and all signals required are received. 2. do a full system scan. can you access the module. the answer to this will tell you your next step. 3. lets assume you can access it, can you command it to turn on the wiper? if you do so, does it carry out the command? 4. now let's get the wiring for the wiper it only needs power and ground as it is an electric motor. find the socket. apply power and ground. does it work? yes it does. now you have narrowed down your problem. you have a faulty module.
i didn't need a Bosch scanner to fix this problem. with a test light sef I can gather data I need tho it will be more stressful. why not check another video of another person fixing similar issue. are they all using Bosch scanner?
okoroemeka: most of these advanced modern cars are simply not meant for Nigeria, even in advanced countries repairing some problems and electrical issues can be irritating, experienced car mechanics like Scotty kilmer and the car wizard encounter difficulty repairing some of these German cars, they have complex electronics and different separate modules that control almost the whole car function, imagine having a brainbox for your wiper + the relays, fuses, etc, many things that can go wrong.
several modules controlling several systems actually makes diagnosis easy. what is lacking in this side of the world is easy access to manufacturer information. even those who have access have to pay alot. these things cost alot. but when you charge a customer for these they tell you "it's too expensive" and then go back to a "road side tech" who will keep doing trial and error. eventually the car owner will start to swear that onw brand is good one is not good.
anyways my point is, it is wrong to say certain cars are not meant for us. if we had access to information it would be a whole different ball game.
so much comic relief ... you can open your empty brain to abuse people but that shit brain can properly compose or spell correctly.
omo you need to really get your shit together. why you dey over hype yourself bayii? you bragged so much about eating and sleeping with germans cars but till today you never see that Audi fix...
Why do you never finish fixing something? half half stuff everywhere but you dey claim jagaban?
anyways your public show of $tupidity has really made car-talk section much more interesting. pls give us more entertainment. and i hope your fake crowd are from the US and not Africa... Ode
does the key suck? can you turn on ignition? what have tou noticed that doesn't work compared to when everything worked perfect? pks provide more information...
Jamal64: The steering is locked to one position, and the car won’t start.
Please how can I fix this?
did you travel in water? or can you check to see if water got into it?
CAN network/ communication problems can cause this issue. your best bet of accurate fix is starting with a full system scan. anyother thing na just guess work and waste of money.
find a tech with a capable scanner. scan the car. post codes here.
mrcoolautofix: Lots of sensors were rip off like maf, IAT, Purve valve, Presure sensor, ECT lots even futher the ac system is butchered, yes it's serious
oh I see.... if thats all that was burthered then it is truly a big job.
mrcoolautofix: OK here we go again.. for the update this car is up successful engine rebuild, next is sensor troubleshooting, system restoration and it's all going up....
We were told this ac have only leaks before purchasing but now, after getting it fixed air tight, pulled vacuum, charged it up, the compressor was snoring in the cemetery..
This car look great on the body but needs extra job to get it back in shape.. For the serious ones, dial this number 08061371793 let's get down to business if your vw or audi is giving you attitude like some of the folks in the comment section here and I will get it back.. Just keep ya wallet loaded with dead papers
Yeah most Nigerian mechanic suck at rebuilding engine as much as complete car restore to have a look like new,
I will go first.. let me show y'll how it's done.
OK those of you who think he is just ac guy or electronics guy, sorry you missed the bag.
This very brand of car is like a home away from home to me, so any issues such as ac, electrical, engine, trany, control system, computer diagnostics, have been my recipe for breakfast, lunch and dinner, last part I would be hitting would body detailing.. which will include painting and detailed body work, body compounding and polishing..
Ok now that you know this, you have a better view of my kind of technician not just a mechanic. Ok mind you this 2.0L aspirated engine block is aluminum not cast. See you on the other side... 20 valves meaning 5 valve per cylinder............... Still four banger
Let me leave a quote, yes I am the jack of all trades, you can add master of non, Then I go, hahaha nah Still better than master of one, if you catch my vibes, I will be rocking steady.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u8tMoXvehbY
ehsir pliz what do you mean by "sensor troubleshooting" ?
Blacklaurel: It's not a must to share your methods Oga. Many great people have perished with their knowledge and the world still exists despite that but remember nobody is an island of knowledge. Many a times you even get suggestions on how to get things done faster and better when you share.
thank you o my oga. i remember a tech that was too proud, he didnt take any apprentices to teach the work, he said because he didnt want competition as he felt he was the best in fixing that brand. when he died mysteriously that was the end of his workshop. his family had to start finding how to fend because the guy didnt create a system that could outlast him.
mrcoolautofix: Nice write up, if it as you said how come on three to four counts trial with his pro techs they couldn't get it solve? You sound deficient to my liking, read my thread again I said without unscrewing a dime thing
Can you give the details of this pro-techs? Abi because you fix something for your mind u don assume "pro-techs" na him try check am. God forbid I ever have the need to sound "un-deficient" to a tech who is bragging on Nairaland because he fixed a battery drain.
come here and tell us when you fix a CAN communication issue using an oscilloscope or narrow down the cause of a misfire concern on an engine without loosing a screw.
Then you fit dey proud. Till then oga, road side guys dey fix battery drain. So why you dey proud?
thaqib: Thank for your inputs. The mechanic checked the vehincle and found that three out of the shock absorber is bad. So I changed the shock absorber and the linkages in all the wheel and did alignment. the swerving upon stepping or coming down from a little bump had stopped/ reduced
However the car still swerves dangerously. This characteristically happen on a wet ground. Not on dry. I then changed the set of back tyres that is bad but alas, the swerving on little sleep still here. Today's rain made it more obvious. I hear some little noise on turning d steering on the driver side, especially in wet weather, but the steering isn't stiff at all
Is there anything I have missee
1. which vehicle is this? 2. Does the vehicle swerve anytime on wet road or only when you step on the brakes? if yes, check brake calipers. a stiff caliper or if there are unequal braking power applied to the tyres could cause similar symptoms. 3. also can you confidently say you have checked every component of the suspension and they a re fine?
the precious information you hoard is all over the internet free for people to tap from. what is difficult in finding a battery drain?
every current draw comes from the battery. then through a fuse/relay.
Every system has a fuse through which current runs through to power them. The fuses serve as a safety device within any circuit in case there is a high amp draw due to short circuit or whatever.
Now to narrow down which system is responsible for this current draw, first put the car to sleep. open the doors (this is to allow easy access during diagnosis) but lock the latches (to ensure the BCM sees the doors are locked).
place an amp clamp on the main positive or negative battery wires to monitor the current beeing drawn from the battery.
next let is seat for am hour atleast just to ensure all systems are asleep.
with a multimeter, check each fuse. and note the fuses with higher than normal millivolts reading.
with this you can narrow down which system is responsible for the amp draw since we already know this is the fuse powering the system.
from here disconnect each module being powerwd on the system. there will be a drop in amp draw once you disconnect the module or component responsible for the amp draw.
The above methods are one of many accurate ways to diagnose amp draw on any vehicle which i have used to fix difficult battery drain concerns on many vehicles.
All these information is available on the net. no dey feel like say you be champ @OP.
