Hello all, one rajat07me offered me a job to write 500 words articles for $1.25. I'm to write about 2500 words per day and the contract, as he says, should last for a month. Out of beginner's naivety, I accepted the project. Yesterday, I received my first two jobs on the project. The jobs were two 1000 words articles which I was instructed to submit in 20 hours. However, I quickly realised that the jobs were not worth the pay at all. In fact, the time it took me working on them almost made me not the deadlines set for me on the two other (better paying) jobs I'm presently handling, plus the fact that the said rajat07me is quite overbearing in his mode of communication. Another issue is that the jobs were sent to me by mail, and the said rajat07me insisted I submit by mail, without making provisions for payment, which I initially objected to, but had to succumb after viewing the myriad of positive reviews on his profile. However, though I have submitted the first of the two articles, but he has not acknowledged receipt ever since. Thus, I didn't bother sending in the second and the deadline for submission has since elapsed. I want to opt out of the project. Is this possible? Especially considering the fact that the price on the initial bid made by the said rajat07me was $88 and freelancer have already deducted $8.8 from my balance. I'm really confused on which step to take now. Peeps in the house should please help out brother. Thanks all. cc ladywriter, jonaboy, okunrimeta etc. |

ladywriter:Thank you very much Ladywriter. I don't have even a voters' i.d. Anyway, I'm not too concerned about withdrawing my money now , let it pile up first, and then i'll go and get an international passport (which I heard is quite easy to get) and apply for a payoneer card. On the issue of late submission, I have entered into an arrangement with a business centre close to where I live. They've agreed to allow me work there whenever there is no electricity, provided I contribute money for fuel once in a while. With that, I should be able to finish the work before evening and submit to my employer. Thank you very much once more. You've been of immense help. 2 Likes |

Hello all, I personally want to thank Ladywriter and everyone who has contributed to this thread. God will bless you all. I actually stumbled on this thread a couple of months ago and I was drawn to the idea of making money writing online as I am an avid writer and have many articles to my name. However, after procrastinating for a couple of weeks, I totally forgot about the idea. Recently, I came upon the thread again and I finally decided to take the plunge. I opened an account on freelancer about two days ago, completed my profile as much as I could and started placing bids. Eventually, one of my bid was accepted yesterday (a market research paper). I requested for a milestone from the employer which she agreed to create after sending me the project topic. She sent the topic this evening and subsequently created the milestone. However, the electricity situation in the part of the country where I reside is beyond debilitating and I don't have a generator. Consequent upon this, i don't think i'll be able to get the work ready before the deadline. Please, I want to know what the consequences are for not submitting a project on time. Furthermore, I don't have any of the required I.ds to get a payoneer card. Is there any way around the I.d. requirement? Equally, is it possible to withdraw my money in Nigeria without using payoneer? I appreciate you all. You've been a blessing and a source of inspiration to me. |
Career / Re: 8 Controversial Beliefs People Have About Lawyers by ogalawyer(m): 7:32pm On Apr 28, 2015 |
himkers:lolz..I do not completely agree with you. Though some lawyers outrightly tell lies, which is unethical and prohibited by the Rules of Professional Conduct, some do not. The veracity of a fact depends to a great extent on perception, thus what may seem white to you may be black to someone else. Remember the blue-gold dress that caused a storm on social media. Lawyers only try to propound arguments in support of their 'perceptions', which may not necessarily be acceptable to the layman. Sometimes 'white' may turn out to be 'black' or any shade of colour in between. All you need is enough evidence to ground your postulations. |
Career / 8 Controversial Beliefs People Have About Lawyers by ogalawyer(m): 7:20pm On Apr 28, 2015 |
Do you know that there are really weird and controversy-ridden beliefs most people have about lawyers, especially in this part of the world. Interestingly, despite this air of controversy surrounding the profession, it is still the toast of many. Listed below are some of these beliefs and why people have them. 1. Lawyers Are Liars. This might just be the most popular view about lawyers by most people. Some hold this view jokingly, while others take it so seriously. Lawyers are seen as a bunch of folks who will argue a black colour into a white colour. They are seen as people who will thwart the obvious truth, and leave you wondering why. People believe that the singular reason why they do that is for their selfish interest, that is, to win cases for their client; which will invariably bring money into their pocket. Huh? Is that true or false? I guess you will have to answer that yourself. 2. Lawyers Are Proud . There we go again... Most people see lawyers as always being dull of themselves, especially the female lawyers. I often hear some guys say they detest going out with ladies that are lawyers because they are haughty. Are you kidding me? Could it be that it’s not them that is the problem, but you? You know that poor self- image problem thing? Okay am not holding brief for anybody, I was actually thinking out loud. This belief is in no way gender discriminatory, as their male counterpart also have their own share of the belief. By the way, that title we claim exclusive right to- ‘Learned’ doesn't even help matters. Law students are not even spared of this belief. Whether it is because people are intimidated by lawyers, and so think of them as being proud is a question I usually ask myself in a bid to unravel this perception. Are lawyers truly a proud people, or is it just a misconception informed by a myriad of prejudices? Or is it a question of them being a victim of a profession that has a way of placing you, even without your consent, in a position where you are most likely going to be misunderstood? What do you think? 3. Lawyers Aid Criminals. As far as most people are concerned, they don’t understand why a lawyer will opt to defend a person that duped, assaulted or caused them one harm or the other. And the fact that sometimes these people get to walk away free compounds their confusion. Now somebody needs to explain this whole thing to them. Will they understand if explained to? We will find out soon. 4. Lawyers Feed on the Misfortune of People. Well, I think it all boils down to perception. While some see them as problem solvers, others see them as living off other people’s troubles. A lawyer handling a divorce case might be seen as making money out of a home that is about to be torn apart, and not bothered about it. Somehow you just get to always see lawyers in the middle of people’s troubles. Whether they are there to help or to complicate issues depends on who you ask. 5. Lawyers Speak Big Grammar They will always want to show off that they are lawyers by using big words even when simpler ones will do, some have also argued. Okay maybe it’s not their fault; maybe it’s just that people have refused to grow their vocabulary. Huh? Okay am not sure of that, but it’s a possibility too; am just saying. 6. Lawyers Always Think They Know it All. Of course they know it all! Aren't they the only learned ones around? Isn't that what it means to be learned? They are ready to argue you to death to prove they have a more valid point than you, which sometimes make them come off as obnoxious. Hey, those are not my own views, but I’m pretty sure that wouldn't be too different from the view most people hold about them. It is not in doubt that the profession has a way of attracting people who love talking, I mean the parrots that are highly opinionated; but remember also that lawyers are trained to argue too. But what is in doubt is whether they go around with that air of arrogance and perfection in presenting their views even while having just a simple conversation with friends. 7. Lawyers Are Unnecessarily Expensive. Just to draft a simple demand letter they charge you in thousands, they say. Simple? If it’s that simple why didn't you draft it yourself in the first place? Okay now am sounding like am holding brief for the lawyers, but I can’t help it when people talk like that. Some people believe that lawyers get to charge way beyond what they are supposed to charge. They just believe that they are too expensive, that sometimes the poor cannot even afford them. How about doctors, are they unnecessarily expensive too? 8. Lawyers Are Tools in the Hands of the Rich. A poor man gets into trouble, its either he can’t afford a lawyer, or he can’t afford a good one, and so he goes in for it. A rich man gets into a similar or maybe a bigger trouble, he hires the best of lawyers around and they simply get him off the hook. Now you see why people think of lawyers as simply being one of the weapons in the armory of the rich? Truth is, the list is not exhaustive. To prove that, just try sampling people’s opinion on what they think of lawyers and you will be dazed. Let’s hear what your thoughts are on this. http://threelegals.com/index.php/home/k2-tags/opinion/item/234-8-controversial-beliefs-people-have-about-lawyers

philips70:About Tompolo and the other ex militants, it will be foolhardy to deny the influence they exert on politics in delta state. Thus, he necessarily has to align with them, especially in the first stages of his tenure. However, he should systematically seek to decrease their influence by reducing their power bases through policies of mass mobilization and people friendly policies, which will secure his popularity and general acceptability to all deltans, thus reducing the need for endorsement by the ex militants and other power brokers in the state. As exemplified by the recent successes of the APC against the ruling PDP, power still belongs to the people and not some selfish cabal and supposed power brokers. 1 Like |

philips70:Okowa is from my hometown of Agbor and I have always followed his political development from the time he was commissioner for health under the Ibori administration to the present period where he is now Governor elect. I know him to be a very intelligent man with very sound policies. He was very vocal in the 7th senate and sponsored some well articulated bills. He has all it takes to succeed as the governor of delta state, given that he has a lot of experience in government at the state level. However, for him to have any taste of success, he must eliminate or significantly reduce the power of the cabal holding the state by the jugular and ensure that widespread corruption and capital leakages in the government are reduced to the barest minimum. He should also have people friendly policies, because humility is not one of his strongest points. |

Congrats to the man of the people, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa. Now it is time to show that useless Uduaghan how to properly govern a state. Politics / Re: Ayirimi Emami defects to APC in Delta by ogalawyer(m): 8:00pm On Apr 08, 2015 |
donphilopus:lolz..nobody has deserted Jonathan. Rather it is based on Jonathan's instructions that politicians are deserting the PDP. There's a plot to prevent the PDP from claiming the Governorship seat in Delta state and some other states in the south. This is partly due to the fact that the PDP governorship candidate in Delta state, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa is not popular with the political heavy weights in Delta state and the fact that he is from Delta north region of the state and the Urhobo's, due to their very partisan nature, want to hold on to power by all means. Another reason is that Jonathan wants to ensure that APC wins some oil states to ensure a smooth administration at the centre, thereby garnering more goodwill and buying a bigger stake in the incoming government. Expect more defections from the PDP to the APC in the next few days, especially in the south south states. Also, expect APC to win some key PDP south south states in the up coming elections. Nigerian politics is a very dirty game and there are a lot of conspiracies hidden from the eyes of the masses. 1 Like |

Politics / How I Was Almost Mobbed Today In Ado Ekiti by ogalawyer(m): 2:10pm On Apr 07, 2015 |
I'm still in shock over what happened to me today. I'm a youth corper serving in Ado Ekiti. On my way to the office Ado Ekiti this morning, I observed that the Fajuyi park area of the town was blocked by security operatives and motorcycles were not being allowed to ride through. I was puzzled as to what was going on, as I just got back to the state from my hometown d night before. Anyway I proceeded to my office. About two hours later, I heard some singing and noise from outside. As l was kind of bored, I decided to go and observe. On getting to the outside of my office complex, I saw a large crowd of people singing and walking on the main road. I realised they were protesting. But since there were no sign of violence, I presumed, albeit wrongly, that it was a peaceful protest. Therefore, and in order to test the picture quality of the phone I just bought, I decided to take pictures. That was a very grave mistake, I now realise. Immediately, a man saw me taking the pictures, he descended on me. The crowd followed suit and before I could mention Jesus, I started receiving blows and slaps from everywhere. The shirt and inner shirt I was wearing was torn out of my body. After the security men managed to restrain d crowd, I was told to delete d pictures, which I did. The crowd was not still satisfied and insisted that I give my phone to them, so they could smash it. I refused. Another round of beating then commenced, this time more viciously. I was pushed to the ground and they were all raining blows and slaps on my body. I managed to extricate myself from the melee and ran for my dear life. Some tried chasing me, but I was quicker. I then went to hide in a part of d complex. After about 5 minutes, a vicious looking guy came to meet me where I was hiding and said I should give him my phone, else he finishes me off there and then. He said he has been instructed by the powers that be to either smash my phone or finish me off. Or in the alternative, he will take me to d crowd waiting fr me outside so they can deal with me in their own way. I started begging him and told him I was just a youth corper and I was neither a politician or from Ado Ekiti. After showing him my NYSC I.d. card and giving him the last 500 naira in my wallet, which he requested for, as bribe, he let me go and instructed me to go and hide as best as I could. I was later transported outside the premises by a good Samaritan, before I found my way home. Though I'm an ardent follower of political happenings in the country, I have never been a fanatic, and I never expected this type of behaviour from rational human beings. Mehn, these guys where filled with anger, and they could kill without hesitation. Politics should not be a do or die affair. It is high time we jettison this culture of barbarism and embrace peace and dialogue. Anyway, I'm thankful to God, that it didn't get worse than it did. Though I'm feeling pains all over my body, I'll survive and at least I still have my phone. 122 Likes 20 Shares |
