The Abia State Police Command have arrested the man who shot dead a lady he invited over to his place along Obohia road, Aba on July 9.

Parading the suspect, Ogbonnaya Igwe before newsmen on Friday, at the Command Headquarters in Umuahia, along with other suspects, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Adeleye Oyebade said that at about 11am on July 9, information was received that someone was shot dead along Obohia road Aba.


Sequel to this, a patrol team attached to Ndiegoro Division on routine patrol rushed to the scene at No. 22 Obohia road Aba where the deceased was met in a pool of her own blood.

The Divisional Police Officer, Ndiegoro mobilized other patrol teams and proceeded to the scene where Ogbonnaya Igwe, of 22 Obohia road was arrested in his hide-out at the ceiling of the house.
One Pump-Action rifle and double barrel gun with 15 live cartridges and four expended cartridges were recovered from the suspect and at the scene respectively.

Corpse of the deceased later identified as Ijeoma Chibuzo was deposited in the mortuary for autopsy. Investigation is in progress.

The Ondo State Police Command have arrested four undergraduate students for alleged gang r*pe of a female student of the Adeyemi College of Education (ACE) in the state.
The suspects were identified as Olakunle Adetuyi, Timilehin Akinola, Tobi Olagbaju and Adebisi Adeyemi, all aged between 24 and 26. A fifth culprit, Eric Nwage, is still at large.
The victim, a 22-year-old History and English student is also an estranged girlfriend to Timilehin Akinola of the social studies department in the same college.
Parading the suspects before newsmen in Wednesday, at the command headquarters in Akure, Hilda Ibifuro-Harrison, the Ondo State Commissioner of Police said the victim was lured to the home of Olagbaju, who is a part-time student of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic Owo.
After the student arrived at Olagbaju’s residence located at No. 17, Funbi Fagun Housing Estate in Ondo town, they took turns raping her.

A very close friend to the victim reported the case to the school private security outfit, who later arrested the culprits and after a discreet investigation handed them over to the police for prosecution.
“One of the suspects, Olakunle, took a video of their heinous crime as they took turns on their victim one after the other, and later abandoned her and threatened that they would use charms on her if she ever revealed the incident to anyone.” said Mrs. Ibifuro-Harrison.

“The phone and charms used in perpetrating the crime were recovered and the case was transferred to the Department of Criminal Investigation,” the police commissioner said.

She added that the victim, whose name was withheld, is currently recuperating at the hospital in Ile Ife, Osun State.
In his confession, Mr. Akinola admitted that he and his friends r*ped the victim.
“I have been a close friend to her (the victim) and always advised her to shun her wayward attitude, but she wouldn’t listen. One day, she called me after the class lecture and said that we should hang out. I later invited her to my friend’s place where we forcefully took turns over her,” he said.

A Nigerian woman, 24, identified as Oluchi Emeobi from Nnewi Ichi of Nnewi North LGA of Anambra State has been arrested by men of the Nigerian Police for selling a two moths old baby for the sum of N250,000.

The Nigerian woman according to the Anambra state police commissioner, Umar Garbage was reported to have used the proceeds from the illegal trade to purchase herself a motorcycle.

The Anambra State police command has however confiscated the property along with the woman.

Emeobi, according to the police had carried out the transaction with the help of a 26 year old, Nchedochi Richard, female, who stayed in the same location with her.

Nchedochi Richard, popularly known as First lady is however at large following the arrest of her accomplice,

Speaking during a briefing with journalists, the Police commissioner said Emeobi in order to conceal her act reported to the police that she left her baby in custody of an unidentified woman who kidnapped her baby.

He added: Exhibits recovered from the principal suspect include; Sum of Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira (#250,000) cash and One Motorcycle the suspect allegedly bought with part of the money realized from the sale of her baby.”

The Police Commissioner however noted that the matter was still under investigation and efforts have been intensified to catch the fleeing suspect and recover the baby.

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has adjourned the trial of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, until October 17. No reason was given for the adjournment but there are speculations that the adjournment may be unconnected with the fact that the Federal High Court has begun its annual vacation. Kanu is being tried alongside three others, David Nwawuisi, Benjamin Madubugwu and Chidiebere Onwudiwe, for treasonable offence. He was arrested in October 2015 and held in prison until April 28th this year when he was released after he was granted bail by Justice Binta Nyako. Part of his bail conditions was that he must avoid being seen in any gathering of more than 10 persons, not granting any radio or television interview and not traveling out of the country.

Ike Ekweremadu, deputy senate president, says he has pity for the people of Kogi state for having Ibrahim Muhammad as attorney-general.

Ekweremadu said this on the floor of the senate on Tuesday, while reacting to an advertorial signed by Muhammad.

“I must put on record that legal opinion of senator Ekweremadu on the role of the senate in the recall process, the senate has no role whatsoever in the recall exercise than to receive the certificate under the hand of the chairman of INEC stating that the provision of section 69 of the constitution has been complied with see 68 h of the 1999 constitution as amended,” read the advertorial.

But Ekweremadu said Muhammad conveniently neglected section 68 (2) of the constitution where it said the senate would still deliberate on whether Melaye should be recalled or not.

“This morning my attention was drawn to a three-page advertorial, pages 20, 21 and 22 of the Leadership Newspaper by Ibrahim Muhammmad, attorney-general of Kogi, who was responding to my contribution on the floor of the senate when Senator Dino Melaye informed this senate of the efforts of the people of his constituency to recall him,” the deputy senate president said.

“I want to advise the people of Kogi state and indeed his constituents to apply their time to more useful venture in view of the very difficult conditions of recall of parliamentarians and in reference to the attorney-general, I did say that my learned friend may not have advised the people or indeed the government appropriately.

“So, this morning, Kogi state government took an advertorial to respond to me and I understand that every page costs about N700,000. For this alone, they spent about N2 million and I understand that it is an about five other papers so we are looking at about N12 million spent to responding to my comment.

“I pity the people of Kogi state that hired this kind of attorney-general and this is unfortunate that are paying a public servant and he is unable to do a simple work looking at the constitution. We must emphasise that 68 (2) is not part of the amendment since 1999. This has been the original provision of the constitution.

“It has nothing to do with Dino or whoever. It has been there since 1999 for him not to know about it – I don’t know where he went to law school anyway. If he has been properly educated, I believe he should have been conversant with the basic provisions of the constitution.

“I’m even his senior at the bar, he ought to show some respect because that is what we were taught at the law school, to respect our senior. But for the avoidance of doubt, I want to believe I have better credentials in the legal profession and my interest was constitutional law, I have a doctorate degree in law and my area is constitutional law. I have been chairman of the constitutional review committee in this national assembly since 2010.

“I expect the attorney-general instead of displaying his ignorance to call and I educate him on the correct position of the law. So, I take exception to this and I believe that he needs to refund the amount spent on this to the people of Kogi. I call on the house of assembly to institute an inquiry on who paid for this and find a way of receiving the money back to pay salaries of Kogi state.”

Also speaking, Senate President Bukola Saraki, said it was irresponsible for a state government to spend over N10 million for an advert.

“One is concerned with the calibre of people in government. What is disturbing and irresponsible is when you spend over N10 million for advert. As said it is very unfortunate for the people of Kogi state,” Saraki said.
