The defence headquarters (DHQ) has assured Nigerians that their lives and property are safe and secure wherever they reside in the country. John Enenche, director defence information, gave the assurance in a statement. There has been tension in the country following secessionist agitations in the south-east and a call by some northern groups for the Igbo to leave the region within three months. Enenche said the DHQ had received “so many requests in the recent past, to know from the military about the safety of Nigerians living in parts of the country, other than their aboriginal habitats”. “As such, it behoves the defence headquarters to reassure the general public that all lives and property in Nigeria are secured and safe at any location,” he said. “Thus, the armed forces of Nigeria are constantly on surveillance, in collaboration with other security agencies, to curb acts capable of distorting the peace.” The defence spokesman, therefore, urged the public to “report suspicious movements and any act that point to creating any situation of insecurity to lives and property to the nearest security agency”. “The armed forces hereby reaffirms its commitment to protecting the lives and property of all Nigerians living in any part of the country. Therefore, all should go about their normal life wherever they are living without fear or intimidation.” http://ogashub.com.ng/nigerians-are-safe-anywhere-in-the-country-says-defense-headquarters/

At least 57 policemen fled while two were killed when suspected Boko Haram insurgents ambushed their convoy in the Damboa area of Borno state, on Tuesday. An officer who witnessed the attack said his colleagues who took cover were yet to be found. He said men from men of the State Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) deployed to rescue the officers have not been able to rescue all of them. The officer said the convoy was conveying a corpse of a policewoman to Adamawa state when the attackers struck. “Some private and commercial vehicles which were heading to Biu, Adamawa, Hawul and Gwoza when the incident happened,” he said. “People abandoned the vehicles and took to their heels. “The bus conveying our female colleague for burial was riddled with bullets, because it was in front. “So far, only two people died but we are yet to ascertain whether others were killed or got trapped. SARS was deployed and the truck conveying the officers has been recovered.” But Damian Chukwu, commissioner of police in the state, said only one policeman was killed in the incident. He said six others sustained injuries during an exchange of gunfire with the suspects. Chukwu said the incident occurred around 2:30pm. “Some of our policemen who were heading to Adamawa for the burial of one of our own female officer police were attacked. Unfortunately, we lost an officer,” he said. “Fifty-seven officers who ran into the bush for their safety are safe and right here with us in the command. They will continue with their trip to Askira Uba tomorrow.” Hassan Usman, a Borno resident, said Zana Modu, district head of Chibok, and Umar Shikarfi, vice-chairman of the Chibok local government, sustained injuries in the attack. Usman said it was not clear if the insurgents took hostages. “The attack happened along Maiduguri-Damboa road. The passengers come with escorts and the insurgents attacked the convoy and so many people were injured,” he said. “They opened fire, they were sporadically shooting at the convoy, a lot of varying degrees of injuries. “Our district head, Zana Modu of Chibok was shot in his hand, then the vice-chairman Umar Shikarfi of Chibok local government was shot in the leg. “They said they have taken vehicles to the bush, there is an ambulance coming from Maiduguri for a burial, both the ambulance and the corpse, they have taken. “Some other vehicles are still missing, we don’t know if it is with them, we cannot confirm that one. They damaged a lot of cars.” Borno has recorded frequent attacks in recent times, especially after some military commanders were redeployed. More than 10 attacks have happened in the state in the last one month. On June 13, insurgents ambushed soldiers on Damboa-Maiduguri road, dispossessing them of two Hilux vehicles. Later that day, Boko Haram fighters invaded Maiduguri through Alidawari and Jidari Polo areas at a time Tukur Burutai, chief of army staff, was at his official residence in Maimalari Barracks. As if that was not enough, three female bombers donated improvised explosive devices (IEDs) at Goni Kachalari and Muna areas of the ancient town, killing 13 people, while 24 others were injured. Three days after, the insurgents attacked Gimsuri village along Damboa to Chibok road, killing two civilians and burning four houses. On June 18, Boko Haram militants killed three soldiers on patrol at Wajiroko village along Damboa to Biu road. On June 19, five female bombers struck at Kofa community in Dalori area of Maiduguri. 12 persons were killed in that tragic incident. The Cable learnt that the army authorities have summoned top officers in the state to Abuja over the resurgence in the activities of the sect. http://ogashub.com.ng/ambushes-police-convoy-kill-two-officers-57-missing/

In my opinion, I think Evans should be prosecuted not just for being a kidnapper but for also being a fool. How the hell would you earn up to a million dollars and still continue kidnapping? If na poverty make am start am, if na capital him dey find to do business him don get enough to stop that useless and risky kind of business sef. He deserved to be hanged not just for being a kidnapper but for doing so with pleasure and unapologetically even. I am even amazed that some unscrupulous elements are beginning to clamour for his release on the basis that he's no worse than some of our politicians who have allegedly looted the country's funds near dry and still walk around freely but by releasing him what are u teaching our jobless and unemployed youths? What message are we passing across? Hmmm...your guess is as good as mine. The only basis on which he may be spared death is if he can refund to his victims their monies but come to think of it, what about those he killed? Can their lives be refunded? How about those families he plunged into poverty today by giving away their life-savings as ransome for the lives of their loved ones who he abducted? I heard he charged as ransome, up to a million dollars! Imagine!!! Most of his victims being his own brothers (Igbo men). The funniest thing even was that his wife with whom he had 5 kids living with him in the same house claimed not to know that he was a kidnapper, that the highest money she'd ever gotten from him was 200k. Wow!!! Now they're all crying and begging for his release. Imagine! On a final note, I am in the support that he be prosecuted according to the law so as to serve as a warning to those who are also in this dastardly act. And for those who will say "what about our politicians too..." yeah, let us start with kidnappers, politicians will be next. Good afternoon. |

AND THIS WILL BE MY LAST COMMENT CONCERNING THIS ISSUE Sometimes I am surprised to see people kneel or bow down to greet Nnamdi Kanu. This Man is in his early 40s but even older people kneel down to seek his blessings. Who does He think he is? Even the children of Israel didn't bow to greet Moses. South Africans didn't even kneel to greet Mandela. Humility and simplicity should be one of the hallmarks of a great leader. Even Moses did not talk rudely to pharaoh while seeking for the freedom of the Israelites. I have studied him now for a while now and found out that he is actually just a rebellious, inconsiderate, misdirected and ethnically biased individual who claimed to have studied history but never learnt from its lessons. With the way he's being worshipped by some gullible and illiterate Igbo youths lately, I wonder what will become of him if Biafra ever becomes a reality. For me, in my own opinion, I think being Igbo or Biafran, just like your faith, should be a thing of the heart; being conscious of your identity and roots in all you do. For me, I think being Igbo is not Just an identity but a state of mind. Just like the Jews, The Igbo race is a nation without walls but in our quest for Biafra, we tend to cage ourselves. After all, no other tribe drags the east with us and as such we can fully develop our region, maximize our potentials and make our regions a better place for our children even without declaring a sovereign state. If Biafra can be achieved peacefully and without bloodshed, FINE!!! But otherwise, No human being's blood is worth shedding for that cause. After all,The Igbo nation is Bigger than Biafra. *WE ANXIOUSLY AWAIT YOU, OCTOBER 2017* All Northerners should eagerly wait for October 2017 and brace up for a new dawn of Economic opportunities and properity. I am talking of the enormous Economic and Jobs vacuum that will be left by the Ndi-igbos after their mass exodus at the expiration of the deadline given to them by the Arewa Youth Groups, which will be filled by us, for our future prosperity and we’ll-being. It saddens me that for every Naira I spend, much of it goes to the Ndi-igbo on the purchase of one thing or the other. Who benefits more between the buyer and the seller of goods? I can do without certain goods but I cannot survive if nobody buys my merchandise. The deadline and the impending exodus cast my mind back to 1967. Prior to that first exodus, virtually every small, medium and big business in my hometown (by the standard of the time) was owned by Ndi-igbos. All the shops and all the tables of wares in the Commercial Area of Kiyawa were owned by them. Enter the Market on Friday – the market day. All you see in the market stalls were Ndi-igbos. All you could hear was their singing and drumming on wooden boxes. You would hear more Ndigbo language spoken than Hausa. Kiyawa was then a very prosperous commercial town as a result of farming activities. Groundnut, cotton and hide and skin were the major attraction. The Ndi-igbos had a head start in commercial activity that led to their dominance for the very reason that all Manufactured goods came through the South or were made there. So they got hold of them first and then brought them to us. But the penchance for domination by them extended even to other activities, including Sports. I could remember that in my home town only one local young man forced his way into the all-Ndi-igbo team practising in the local Public Primary school’s Football pitch. They freely moved around every part of the town, and prowdly too, unpurturbed – men in shorts and women in skirts. The Northerner even today will feel a total stranger walking on the streets of Aba in his native Arewa attire. In the evenings they would go the abattoir for vultures, search the traditional neighbourhood for bats, or the river side and ponds for frogs. They ate some, smoked and sent some to the East. What a Celebration of some sort if it was a Donkey,Horse or Cow were to die? Since Muslim tradition prohibits eating of dead or hoofed animals, the site became a temporary abattoir for the Ndi-igbos. Vultures, bats and frogs were becoming extinct until that fateful event of 1967 when they were asked to return home by their then leader, Chief Emeka Odumegu Ojukwu to establish their own State of Biafra. As we were told by our elders, they abandoned their Businesses, after taking what they could. Of course a lot of the locals wept for losing their friends and classmates, who were leaving, not realizing that it was a new door of opportunity that was opening for the shrewd ones among the locals. Very soon, many people started merchandising in what was thought to be the preserve of only a particular ethnic group. Things have never been the same for the local Economy since then. When some of the Ndi-igbos, especially the adult, came back after the Civil War, see how people gathered at the Palace of the Village Heads, their first port of call, to welcome them. Every now and then, news spread of the arrival of yet another surviving Ndigbo. “John is back. He’s also alive.” The news would go round and recieved with joy. It was like relations that were thought dead, returning after all hope was lost. The returnees came back only with clothes they were wearing, as their only assets. I could remember a certain John’s shirt sleeves were folded to the elbows because they were dead at the elbows for over-use. And that was all he had. They soon picked up through borrowing from the local Businessmen with the guarantee of the Village Head and other notables in the town. Well, history is about to repeat itself come October. Whether the whole circle of that history will be repeated is doubtful. But this time the Ibos will be gone forever. If,it happens, an even bigger door of opportunity will open for Northerners. We are more Educated & are financially stronger. The sources of all these goods are more known to us than in the past. And we are more Business-minded now. How many Northerners are dreaming of establishing their own Business in spare parts, building materials, drugs, transport, fabric, electrical appliances, electrical fittings, furniture-making, boutiques, generators and water pumps, toilet fittings and tiles, etc, but for the unhealthy competitive attitude of the Ibos who will tell their union members to slash down price to bring you down, or bribe your sale-girl to divert your customers to them, or bugle your shop, or set fire to it, or simply waste you away if you engage in their kind of business? In addition, our youth will now get the jobs that the Ndi-igbos will vacate. We all know that no Ndigbo at the helm of affairs in any organization gives jobs to any other than his ilk. We’ll get cheap Houses to buy and cheap Shops to rent. *I keep wondering whether our so-called leaders who castigate those who gave the quit notice are aware of the positive benefits that will accrue to the people they lead when the Ibos leave* ?. *I wonder why Ndigbo leaders were all silent or supportive of the activities of their miscreants, while our leaders are always quick in castigating and condemning those who respond in a well thought-out and mature manner* ? Would they rather protect the interest of ungrateful strangers than that of their own people? *We have to look at the positive side of the creation of Biafa*. We should support them and wish them well rather than insisting they should remain with us against their wish. We should be awaiting October anxiously.
