Travel / Re: Thinking Of Relocating Back To Nigeria From Canada by ogawisdom(m): 2:47pm On Apr 10, 2023
Bigcoconut:
Hello, guys
I don't want to bore you guys with long epistle. Yes, as the title suggests.

I travelled to Canada through the study route this January but I can tell you for a fact that I'm already bored with this place.

I'm redoing a 2 year program that I have already concluded in Naija but just because I want japa, I redid it. But that's not the issue.

The issue is that I'm working in a company but the department I was posted to was a physical demanding one..

To the extent that if I work for a day, I feel pain all over my body for a week. And this is seriously affecting my education because anytime i go to work, i wouldn't have the energy to do anything again as i would be so weak. but i have to work because i have bills to pay.

Nobody send you for here except you want sleep for cold outside.

Even half of my salary goes in the form of settling bills.

The work makes me depressed. This is not what I bargained for. .

For me to raise money for my tuition fees and travel expenses, at least I wasn't doing bad in Nigeria before i left. In addition, I hardly have time for myself.

My situation is even better, most of people who we came same time haven't found jobs yet.

My thinking is if I should ask for refund of my remaining tuition fee and relocate back Naija, or go back Naija and take some courses online, as there seems to be an option for that.

Coming back to Nigeria should not be an option except you are coming back with enough money to invest.

As if any Nigerian referee is there. Why was it necessary to check value in naira? This is tooo pooooor. The least should be 10k GBP.

You pay an average player 30k GBP per week n paying referees peanut?

There is nothing wrong in what he did or said. Chosing Moslem Moslem ticket in a country like Nigeria is the actual religious bigotry.

This testimony is very encouraging and strengthens the faith of those of us preparing for this but has any self petition gotten approval here.

Hiring an attorney is very expensive and most of us want to do self petition.

Anyone with sample petition for higher degree route should please kindly share.

Possible with self-petition on DIY route or through well tested immigration lawyers.
Whether through lawyers or DIY, critical is to understand the bolts and nuts.

I am researching about it in great details and gathering evidence to support my claims in my petition.

Can anyone share a sample petition letter for scholars?

It's will be enough with better savings if they don't spend on wants but needs. Plus if they cut their coats according to their clothes.

Why put on gen every night even when weather is cool n u can use only rechargeable lights? This is where common sense is needed or wisdom.

Budgeting and management is also paramount.

Food should be portioned n controlled to last.

You must not attend 100k per term sch, when there is 25k per term sch

Travel / Re: My Experience With Loneliness After Canada Migration by ogawisdom(m): 7:42pm On Feb 17, 2023
Confusedgirlie:
Before I left Canada for Nigeria in 2020, I had heard severally that it was very lonely there for Nigerian immigrants. I didn't quite understand what people meant exactly when they said this. However, over time I now have a very good understanding of this particular challenge with migration. Here are some of the things I've learnt on the way. But first, a little background about me.

I'm an introvert and I like my introversion. It gives me a lot of time to think and to be in my own space which I enjoy a lot. I read, write and love to watch documentaries. Those are the three most important things to me in life. When I lived in Nigeria, I lived a mostly secluded life that didn't have a lot of people in it. Regardless, it wasn't boring to me. I went out when I wanted to and took my time for my own activities.

Since being in Canada, my observations have been that it is a lot lonelier here. The reasons are very obvious: there are not a lot of people around me from a culture I'm familiar with (Nigeria), so it's definitely a lot more difficult to interact with others. That's one key point. Another is that I don't really have to go out to purchase things (even groceries), compared to when I was in Nigeria. I can simply order everything I need while sitting in the comfort of my home. Hence, the temptation is to go this way. In addition, I don't have family around, so I'm mostly by myself. And finally, the few friends I have are often busy, so there's hardly time to get together.

That's about it. I think these are some of the challenges Nigerian immigrants face. But the real question is, do I feel lonely?

The honest answer to that is a No. I find that my life is exactly the same way I lived it in Nigeria, only a lot more convenient and comfortable. I can't trade this for anything. In addition, as an introvert who likes to be by herself anyways, it's just a lot more enjoyable.

Nevertheless, there are steps I'm planning to take to change a few things. I am now taking more opportunities to actually go out and buy things even if I don't have to, e.g groceries, clothes, etc. Secondly, I say hello first to strangers and neighbours and get to ask them a few questions. This I wouldn't have done on the first place. Finally, I downloaded a social media application called clubhouse and have been making new friends in my area using this. As a cautious person, I'm taking baby steps here and not jumping straight into friendships I may not like.

Overall, what do I think of being in Canada as an introvert? I enjoy it. My life and choices are a lot better and I find that I have the time to do much more than I was doing back in Nigeria, not hampered by lack of power or resources.

My advice to others is to gauge their expectations carefully as they come to Canada with or without family. It can be lonely here, but that's not because Canada itself is lonely. It's just because you need to dig deep and find yourself in a new country where family is absent and culture is unfamiliar.

As if that is the reason for going to Canada?
Everyone should know their reason for traveling and stick to it.

No extension of this policy, it is working already in our polity.

Look at low turnout at Katsina yesterday for APC bc of scarcity of cash to rent crowd.

Let's endure it will reduce vote buying.

The most important thing is to make sure you have money to cater for yourself at old age.

Money answereth everything

Abroad, care jobs are popular because of the needs at old age.

Life has no guarantees, it's unthinkable to plan ones retirement around your kids. Children are not retirement benefits.

Broke and old can finish anyone

Thortp:
A family going on a student visa may experience a very rough 1st year due to the fact that only one spouse works full time as the student can only do 20 hours.
2nd year will be okay when both spouse works full time. Even the worst is both couples earn £1,500 each after tax = £3k/month.
House rent PCM - £800 for 2bdrm apartment.
Groceries - £300 maximum.
Bills (electricity, water, gas) - £200
Internet - Home and mobile - £50
Transport - £200
Miscellaneous - £150
Balance = £1,300.
That means the couple can conveniently save £1,300 every month provided it's a low job o.

Save the £1,300 for 24 months (2years) = £31,000 that is 28million naira.
You can now take it to Nigeria and invest in something good for yourself. That's another income without working.
Now you get it

Wow

This is interesting

This is worth it by far

I don't know why Nigerians in UK has launched a campaign to discourage ppl from coming.

Most people in Nigeria earning over 500k monthly can't save 28m in 20 years self

Imagine if the couple can save 1500 to 2000 monthly?
