AgricultureRe: IITA Hybrid Plantain, Banana, Pine Apple Suckers. Pls Share Your Experience by ogb5(m): 3:36pm On Aug 30, 2015
Do you work with them?

Anyway IITA is difficult to contact.
General emails to them are not replied. Getting relevant contact details has been difficult for me. Maybe others will have better experience to share.

On the good side, I was able to buy a tractor from them some years back. It afforded me the opportunity of buying my 1st tractor at a reasonable price by public auction.

PoliticsRe: Buhari’s Lopsided Appointments Split The North, His Supporters by ogb5(m): 10:09am On Aug 29, 2015
chacoonder:
I think PMB is only trying to work with the people he knew would help him deliver his goals and aspiration for this country.....Goodluck is being critisized today as a weakling and a failure not because he was bad or tyrannical but because of what some set of people (Madueke, iweala,oduah,orubebe,kuku,oritsejafor..etc) he worked with caused him...Please let us give this man every benefit of doubt that all these appointments he has made (and would still make) are all with good motives.
Was it also good motive for the nation when Buhari sited 87% of PTF project in the North as head of PTF?

These your wishful thinking will not help you. Face reality, you helped bring a tribal bigot into power, your wishful thinking will not make Buhari a nationalist at his old age. The man even told you that he will not treat all Nigerians equally based on vote distribution, yet you are still wishing.

There are competent people in all parts of Nigeria, so lack of competency is not an excuse for omiting any part of the country from the governance of the country.

AgricultureRe: Organic Garri To Hit The Market Soon. by ogb5(m): 9:13pm On Aug 18, 2015
Op if you want organic garri then go to Delta state. They don't use fertiliser on cassava farms, weeding is done manually, all processing is done without chemicals. This applies to most of the other areas in the south south.

So when you say you are introducing organic garri, note that we have been eating organic garri before now.

Cashew seedling. Jumbo is 100
Jumbo is 100 naira, do you have another type that is not jumbo and what is the price.

And there is a poster claiming that the cashew seedling has defect, can you elaborate on that. I am interested in buying a few thousand seedlings, can you raise seedlings specifically for me at a lower price?

Post pictures of your cashew seedlings

Grass vs herbicide. 1 week after the encounter .
Grass lost. And with pre emergent herbicides added to the mix, even the grass seeds in the soil can't stage a comeback.

Cleared 100 acres in one week, personal land cool. Dodo is feeling big because he is struggling with 10 acres of rented land. Say no to poverty

Open multiplication option. Plan B!
To be continuously watered by solar powered irrigation sprinklers. Entire farm to be protected from people like dodo with solar powered electric fence, barbed wires and something else.

What is better than multiplying your suckers. If you know what to do you can turn 1 sucker into 50 plantain plantlets. But that is if you know what to do. A section of my multiplication unit. When in full operation, it should provide 6 million plantain and banana plantlets per annum.

Dodo planted only 140 pieces of suckers and started insulting everyone. Poverty is a disease.

Farm borehole drilling. Lovely how you can drill through granite to get water. Coughed out half a million for this.

While dodo is roaming around looking for govt Fadama project to hang his life on for provision of water and forcing himself on the community, I get water right where it is needed by drilling boreholes.

You are doing 10 acres which is just 4 hectares and you think you have arrived, pity you.
How much do you think 4 hectare of farm will fetch you that is making you to be very pompous. You know what, screw yourself.

Rubbish, my plantains are doing swimmingly well enough and the flood plain isnt a swamp but fadama with two earthen dams, two ponds as artificial reservoirs to control the water level as well as allow for freeway to all water flow always instead of soaking the entire area thus our plantain sit on drier yet conducive deep black soil...... Now, sod off.
You are a big fool. Why do you now say your plantain sit on drier soil. Initially you were claiming that plantain does well on waterlogged soil. Big fool who knows nothing and thinks he knows something. If you don't want people to comment on your thread, then don't create a thread. Instead of coming online to insult those far better than you. Goat.

Rubbish...This isnt internet farming , if you dont mind.
Please yourself, experience is the best teacher. I have been into plantain for years and currently have lots of acres dedicated to plantain.
We can do a photo competition to know who is the internet farmer.

You can grow plantain and get 10 ton per hectare, someone else with better knowledge will get 40 to 60 ton per hectare.

AreaFada2:
Some plantain can do reasonably ok on wetland but may not be at their best. They can also become prone to fall/partially uprooted by heavy wind.
From observation years back, intercropping rice with okra is cool. Plantain can have large leaves/shade, which rice may not like. But if the plantain are sparse, rice would be grown & harvested before becoming shady.
Grandma had acres of rice and plantain back in the day.
Plantain does not like waterlogged land. It will not die but it becomes stressed and prone to diseases. From my observation in the riverine areas of bayelsa and delta states, plantain grown in the swamp does not do well, while those grown on the dredged soil above the water level does very well.

In commercial plantain farming in India in waterlogged soil, they dig trenches to drain the water during the monsoon season and use the trenches to irrigate the farm in times of low rainfall.
