Well, for my program, cramming just won't cut it. For example, I had to learn a programming language from scratch (no regrets at all, actually fun now) for my studies. Cramming won't help you write software, or develop an IT Strategy, or draw business processes, etc... If you cram in my program, you will most likely fail and end up unemployed after school...

1) For your survival in germany, you need to learn the language. its the gateway to opportunities. and when we say learn.. it not "Jelenke" and broken german.. You speak "sehr gut deutsch etwas B2" then you'll see opportunities flying up and down. As for Private Lesson, I cant say much but talk to others like Frau Amafili, Frau Tosin. Herr Ismaila is planning something but not yet revealed. with time, you will know.

2) The question is: Have you gotten admission to study in Germany? If yes, I'd advise you to go to the embassy with the admission letter (2x), blocked account form (filled but not signed 2 copies), passport data page (2x) this process will allow Deutsch bank to open a student blocked account for you. After some weeks.. 4-8 weeks precisely, your new account number will be communicated to you. Proceed to UNION bank HQ, to initiate the transaction. Other banks also initiate Form A transaction like Stanbic, Fidely, Sterling, First bank, and Access bank. but Union bank has been confirmed to be the fastest but expensive means of Form A transfer. So the option lies with you. but ensure you visit the head office of the banks stated above to carry out the transaction. Stanbic bank is fast as well. but Union bank is tested and confirmed.

3) Hamburg is a great place to study and jab. Aachen is in NRW which has cities like koln, dusseldorf, dortmund, and so on. you will always get something to do when you land but your language skill will propel you to a higher paying job. though menial students jobs are readily available. But oga, that ya mindset of not touching your Blocked account get as he be.. To be very candid with you, your first 1-2 months will be spending spree/Galore... Housing and kaution, semester fees, city registration, Insurance(esp if you are over 30 undecided), Visa renewal appointment, internet, food, clothes, und so weiter.. Just zero your mind and trust/hope in God. Your second year will always be sorted out when you settled down.

4) Since you'll be going for studies. The only means your wife could join you will be via "Studentship" I doubt if a student can file for family re-union.. (no sure though) but Oga, the best and surest way for your partner is via studentship. as for the work, she has to learn the language as well. its not automatic/instata. even though.. she'll also get a menial job.

Gemeinsam Sind Wir Starke !!!

At the bolded, don't go to a village in any part of Germany. Kleve is a village in the North, but people there can tell you how it is.... you have to travel to köln or dusseldorf to get work. People in postdam, frankfurter oder and Cottbus get job in berlin but the travel time is killing.
It's not about East, South, West or North. If your sending your blocked account money back home or you are using sponsorship, let the big or relatively big cities be your target. Please and please don't go to a place with 50k population because it's in the west or south.... you go cry eeeewwweeee. No matter how bad it is in a big city, you will always find something to do to sustain you.
For example in Berlin, 1. you get 2 years straight residency no need to get another 8k for the 2nd year, 2. relative to other big cities in Germany, accomodation/social life is cheap here, which means you can save more than someone in Munich for example 3. You can earn up to 950/month b4 u start paying tax. These and many more are advantages of been in a big city.
He who has ear let him hear, do not fall for the north, West, south or east theory.

Peace
apart from berlin n dis very few cities u mentioned, please tell us more cities. Most of us our courses might not be done in those cities. Tnx

I hear job dey for after school...but again two things are involved. I guess you already know the first, and no its not grades. Then talk about the course, then the grade; I hear at least a 2.0 for company jobs; then again something very vital EXPERIENCE!!! I hear its neck and neck with language in the hierarchy of employment requirements.
Job dey after school, Baba..but you first have to survive the school first. wink

Exam dey by the corner, God willing I will give my own account from what I can see here.
But briefly, I will give you an example of what life after studies is like based on the very few examples that I know about.
My indian neighbour and his friends studied Automative Engineering in FH Aachen, and they both came to Munich in search of a job. His friend now works in BMW, (his friend told me personally) and his starting annual salary is around 46-8k, while my friend got one in Stuttgart to start very soon with a starting annual salary of 34-36k (can't remember exactly), all Bsc. and they are all.even looking for bigger offers from there.
They have one thing in common, (their German language proficiency is at least at B1-B2 and they did a STEM course. The other guy is now planning to start his process of applying for his EU blue card. These guys inspired me to go back to learning German. They said ALL their interviews were in German. However, these people don't expect you to speak like native speakers but at least be able to communicate.
I have heard about a few people that are frustrated after school without a job and the common hindering factor is that of language.

My point is that, Your proficiency in German is as important as your results and hunger for money during studies, if you finish your school and have not attained up to B1-B2 in German, then Germany MAY not work out well as a place to settle and work.
@ Bosses dolpaz and honourableseyi, why una dey use una boy play na... God is watching you o... I still dey loyal.
@eke40seven thanks for answern, you willll pass your exams in jesus name. Amen!! How about people with only german msc.

Your assertions about borrowing might be true based on location and your level of language profiency...
Men, the thread don reach 400 pages...

What i can say is this, Germany is not for the lazy bones (when you are working for 8 hours, you only have one hour break in between to chat and rest, for the working period, you will certainly be on your feet (literately or other wise)
You are certainly going to work at odd hours for some jobs.

If your heart is set towards making some money, then, DON'T go to backwater towns with little economic activities especially if you don't speak the language.

Some cities will not offer you long term extensions, as that guy mentioned, you could even get 8 months. (Luckily, Munich gives between 24-30 months at least but rent here is the highest in the country grin)

There are jobs here, plenty of them begging for workers but the language will restrict you in many. So, for those coming, your single most important meal ticket here is the German language, Learn, and you won't have any complaints like the majority of us here.
And men, the level of education here is on another level, if you are mediocre, make sure you pump up your energy to the power of ten, combining work and school will place some demands on your mortal flesh.
@eke40seven, please can you please enlighten urs on life after studies, I think dats where most of us are Really interested in. Like you said they are jobs, Do you mean student jobs or graduate jobs.

What exactly is your point here? That people shouldn’t pursue their dreams of studying abroad, even if it means borrowing the funds? You’ve been very informative with your post, thank you. But you’ve only succeeded in playing on people’s fears and you may have discouraged quite a few peeps in the process. You may never know. You criticised those you say come on here and paint glory pictures of Germany, while you have done exactly the same thing by painting sorry pictures of Germany. How about those that borrowed money to fund their blocked accounts, got to Germany, paid back their debts, go to school, work the regular menial jobs you say are available, make good grades and come back home with a very good certificate? It’s either those people are not in Germany or you’ve just been so unlucky not to have met them.

IF YOU HAVE DREAMS OF STUDYING IN GERMANY - DO NOT BE DISCOURAGED! DO NOT LET ANYTHING STAND IN THE WAY OF YOUR SUCCESS. FORGET THE STORIES THEY TELL YOU ABOUT THIS PERSON OR THAT PERSON. BE READY TO PURSUE YOUR DREAMS - EVEN IT IT MEANS “GOING TO WORK AT 4AM, COMING BACK AT 2AM, OR HAVING ICE BLOCK FALL ON YOUR HEAD”.

Over and Out.
@hampy do stay in germany? Some pips are even trying to port to canada, I really don't was going on there but I strongly believe in my God that my stories will be different and even the stories of everyone planing on going to germany. Amen!!

Oh yes, it is still active. You plan on taking both the exams this year. Not bad, but you're gonna put in some work. What materials do you have at hand ? Do you have experience working with network devices ? A PC, router, switch or even a LAN cable connection ?
You can always go via the ZERO to HERO route which I've recommended to others that have joined in the past. Go on youtube and watch all you can get yours hands on on Network Fundamentals.

by PHP, I am supposing you're conversant with the full LAMP / WAMP stack. It means you can still program, you may already have good algorithm knowledge, you can go for information systems or software engineering (note: you might most probably meet up with a Compiler Construction related course; if you fear that confirm from your institution's handbook). Its masters tho, they believe you can program already plus you'll meet many foreigners too that cannot program. YOU HAVE time to catch up. Though, if you plan to work, while schooling in a highly competitive town or in a highly competitive firm, "YOU MIGHT NEED TO STANDOUT", practice a bit more if you feel you're not there. You don't have to be as good as Taylor Otwell or Zuckerberg before you can be called a programmer.

Read the module handbook again, go for what pleases you or what aligns more with your dream.
how about a course with lots of networking, can't really find any. Please help out.tnx

The international programmes for civil engr are computational mechanics inclined(civil engr and programming)

3. Uni of stuttgart as Commass

I think u can get Enviromental ENG MSc with ur 1st degree, plus with the high CGPA u can possibly get a DAAD scholarship. Just take ur time nd research properly.

Modified: Why do you want to study Civil Engineering?
In my opinion Civil Engineering thrives in a country that is still developing, and I believe the Germans are already developed and I dont mean to be rude but "Wetin dem wan build again"?
You want to re-course your Career, please do something that would give you a job easily in the end. And I don't think that will be civil engineering. My advice: IT, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechatronics in no specifically defined order. Oh, I forgot the good'ol Chemical engineering "the Father of Engineering", and yes the Biggest 2 Chemical Companies in the world used to be German-owned.
