pcoolioz: Hello All, So I have a quick question. I am not so experienced with inverters and all so my question might be basic to some of you. From my research, I read deep cycle batteries get bad when you use below 50 percent of its power consistently and when you overcharge. I have a solar panel so my inverter is hardly ever dead or I hardly get to 50%, but how about overcharging? Does the solar panel constantly charging it everyday damage the battery still? The inverter is hybrid so it stops charging when the battery is full. So my problem is will the everyday usage affect it somehow?
That is my question. So long as your CC is able to stop charging when your battery is full. Normally lead acid are better charged at .1C so if your solar is charging at that rate or a little bit higher, you should be fine. |

obinna37: yes I have done that, no current exist And no difference in the battery voltage between when it's off-load and when the inverter has AC input? If yes then you may indeed have a faulty inverter. I once had a 1.5kva inverter, it stopped indicating the charge icon but it still charges the batteries. |

Cool, can you share your cost as well. What inverter did you go for, hybrid? Which charge controller? How much was your 12v 100AH LFP? Enjoy your lithium! simydan: Okay! It's been quite some time now since I set up my system... System was initially grid dependant and did fantastically well in terms of backup and stability.
Now the system is off grid and still going strong... Though raining seasons are always dark days for off grid set up except for set ups with more than enough solar arrays.
Personally, my 520watts solar array is not bad at all for my design, considering that it's a 12V 100A set up and with the battery able to charge in a short time.
Now, the challenges I currently have is the season. With more cloudy days, my solar array is not enough to compensate for it, so I have to still switch to grid in between and sometimes also boost the battery with grid...
Truth be told! My days without power are over with or without grid supply, I still have something to go through the night.
On a sunny day, battery charging and load run complement well with the generated harvest except for days when battery was drained for more than 50% during the night.
Indeed the advantages of going Lifepo4 can not be over emphasised, starting from: 1. DOD and life cycle, 2. Charging rate and discharge rate, 3. Volume and weight...
My set up 12V 100AH Lifepo4 battery can be related to 12V 200AH set up if using a lead acid battery which is better explained below:
Lifepo4 Battery: 12V 100AH = 1200W or 1.2kWh Which can be discharged up to 80% or 100%(though, discharging to 100% is not advisable) You'll also need less solar panels to charge a 1.2kWh bank which translate to less cost of solar panels
Lead Acid Battery: 12V 200AH = 2400W or 2.4kWh Which is highly recommended to discharge at not more than 50%. But will need more solar panels to charge a 2.4kWh bank which, translate to more cost of solar panels
With high consumption rate, it's always very difficult to stay within the 50% DOD threshold. That's why Lifepo4 should be the preferred choice as it can with stand abuse of up to 100% DOD and still last longer than it's lead acid counterpart.
Trust me, mine has undergo such abuse. Especially the early days of installation during my load test and it's still standing strong. I doubt how many lead acid will survive that within six months.
So far so good! System is over seven months old and battery is still performing very well...
I guess it's time to help someone build a system too... |

My Conclusion: Morgan has made money or has money right now hence they don't need your kobo kobo deposits .Their live trading platform still seems better though but pride goes before fall. They need to watch it.
Meristem Customer service is in a world of its own. If they maintain those quick responses they will go far . ceaser: A "different port" BMS should be easier to work with in such scenario but I also believe "same port" BMS will work.
The urge is too much and knowing myself, I will still try it out one of these days but with a dirt cheap but functional BMS of course. Will be good to hear your findings The 24/320 BMS is LFP, I guess
Still acquiring some cells, so funds aren't available for high strung BMS just yet. Yes it's 320A but can do 3.2v or 3.7v(LFP or li-ion) it's also a 7s to 16s BMS with Bluetooth. |
Satellite TV Technology › Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by ojeysky(m): 12:36pm On Jul 12, 2020 |
Hmm...... Now I get your point, this would be an interesting experiment, thinking through this logically am not sure it will work; which of the BMS will terminate charge, unless there is a way the BMS exchange information I don't think the Daly BMS will do this out of box. Which of the BMS will connect to the battery positive and charger negative. It's somewhat complicated something o. Fyi - I have a unit of 24v 320A ANT BMS left ceaser: Not the way you mean it.
For instance, a 24v 200ah LFP with at least a C rating of 1 will still allow 200A charge-discharge BMS. But you only have 60/80 amps charge/discharge BMS installed.
If one isn't able to get a 200A BMS, can one get similar BMS and connect in parallel with the existing 60/80 Amps BMS to get a 120/160 amps charge/discharge rating on the battery pack?
Of course most times the emphasis will be on the "charge" amps because I don't expect to approach 120 amps discharge @ 24v on regular home appliances but I would love to have my battery bank full within 2 hours of the sun emerging.
And I believe this can be achieved. These LFPs are now the types co-opted to electric cars in recent times shifting from Li-ion 18/65/0s use. And these cars when recharging can reach 50% capacity within 15 minutes (fast charge phase) and then full 100% charge in 45 minutes. |

I actually lived off grid for almost a year and it was fun but also with consumption planning as I don't yet have a sufficient bank/solar array to completely stay off grid and 110k won't make that happen. mank1234: The issue with such low voltage is the stabilizer Asume you're on 86v converted to 220v, that's 2.56 times conversion. If power suddenly changes to 220v your stabilizer will momentarily output 562V before it reacts to the change. That's is enough to damage some equipments. This happens in milliseconds but some equipments can only withstand such for few microseconds.
Low cost power strips with no self protection for their MOV will catch fire in such situations. Some electrical fires you know nothing about starts this way.
Please listen to oshiomo12 advice. Noted, the Servo does a very good job at managing occasional surges as indeed I have experienced situation where it gets to 200v occasionally. Nevertheless I will take necessary precautions now that I know... Thanks! |

I was very lucky though, this almost burnt down a building some 3 streets away about two years ago. Nepa now added insult upon injury, i was told to bring another 70k for prepaid meter, the one that got damage cost 50k, worked for about a year. Since then, i just stay clear of Nepa for good. They were even at my place yesterday asking me to rethink my decision after two years of NOT using them. It's me, my solar and gen, which i use once in a while around this period. Justin288: Simply reduce your charging current to the lowest, it will charge. Then increase it till the inverter stops charging. That is the sweet spot. My brother so I thought o....I reduced to 10A(2A was the only one a didn't try) it still didn't move, even the bypass to supply current in line mode didn't happen. Though it recognise there was AC input My 5048MK will never charge at 60A, with my big generator. The quality of utility supply we get here has made charging beyond 30A via AC a dream for me. If not for my stabilizer that supports beyond my expectations, the 120v utility that I get would have been almost useless. I keep charging at 20A but occasionally 30A when am lucky to get 150v. Will find time to further diagnose the Gen disagreement with my 3024GK |
