PoliticsProf. Yemi Osinbajo's Speech At The 11th Synod Of The Church Of Nigeria by ojokolax(op): 6:48pm On Jul 26, 2020
WE WILL RISE FROM DESPAIR, PAIN OF COVID-19 PANDEMIC” – VP OSINBAJO

Though the Coronavirus pandemic has caused unprecedented hardship and disruptions to economies across the world, God willing, Nigerians and indeed all people around the world will survive the despair, pain and other consequences associated with the disease, according to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN.

The Vice President gave the assurance in a message sent to the 11th Synod of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Abuja Diocese, themed: Building a Sure Foundation. The Synod had started on Saturday, July 25 at St James' Church, Asokoro, Abuja.

According to Prof. Osinbajo, “Everything around us has been shaken and is being shaken by the greatest global threat to mankind in a century. We are in the midst of the greatest economic slump in history, every region of the world is experiencing an unprecedented slowdown in growth. It is my firm belief that, by the grace of God, very soon, this pandemic will be defeated.”

Speaking further, he said Christians must, however, put their hopes in Christ Jesus, noting that only in God’s name, can the present situation be overturned.

Recalling the depth of the crisis on the Nigerian economy and society, the VP said "there was a day in April when oil, our precious oil was selling for less than the cost of production. No one was even willing to buy. Suddenly all we took for granted, from air travel to hugs and even handshakes, have become neither safe nor advisable.

"Our own economy faces its worst period in history. We are earning 40% less than we should because oil prices have fallen and few today can afford to pay taxes.

Continuing he said “the sum and substance of what I am saying is that these past few months have shown us that human ingenuity and planning cannot even assure us that we will live to see the next day. Any hopes built on the foundation of human understanding and effort is a shaky and unsure foundation and is bound to fail when the storms and the turbulence come.”

REMARKS BY HIS EXCELLENCY, PROF. YEMI OSINBAJO, SAN, VICE PRESIDENT, FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA ON THE OCCASION OF THE 11TH SYNOD OF THE CHURCH OF NIGERIA (ANGLICAN COMMUNION), ABUJA DIOCESE, ON SUNDAY JULY 26TH 2020

Let me say how very honored I am, to be invited to another Synod of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Abuja Diocese. I am profoundly grateful to our new Primate, His Eminence, the Most Revd. Henry Chukwudum Ndukuba, Archbishop Metropolitan, Primate of All Nigeria and Bishop of Abuja.

I say our Primate because I am one of your congregants having been born of Anglican parents and raised in the church. My father until his death served in various lay capacities in the Diocese of Lagos and Diocese of Remo and my mother remains a committed member of the St. Jude’s Church, Ebute Metta.

Your Eminence, I have earnestly looked forward to meeting you personally since your investiture in March. Certainly, this Synod would have afforded me that special opportunity, but the realities of the "new normal" in the Covid-19 pandemic, dictate the maintaining of some form of social distance.

It is my firm belief that, by the grace of God, very soon, this pandemic will be defeated, and I would have the privilege of that personal meeting with you.

The selection of the theme of this 11th Synod, "Building a Sure Foundation", is certainly divinely inspired. Everything around us has been shaken and is being shaken by the greatest global threat to mankind in a century.

We are in the midst of the greatest economic slump in history, every region of the world is experiencing an unprecedented slowdown in growth.

There was a day in April when oil, our precious oil was selling for less than the cost of production. No one was even willing to buy. Suddenly all we took for granted, from air travel to hugs and even handshakes, have become neither safe nor advisable. Our own economy faces its worst period in history. We are earning 40% less than we should because oil prices have fallen and few today can afford to pay taxes.

The sum and substance of what I am saying is that these past few months have shown us that human ingenuity and planning cannot even assure us that we will live to see the next day. Any hopes built on the foundation of human understanding and effort is a shaky and an unsure foundation and is bound to fail when the storms and the turbulence come.

But there is a sure foundation, one that never fails. One that cannot fail because the cornerstone and the rock on which it stands is the creator of life itself, the one who made all things on earth, beneath the earth and in the heavens - Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Indeed scripture reminds us of the futility of trying to lay any other foundation. 1Cor 3:11, reminds us “For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.” That foundation; because it is based on the righteousness of the son of God and not our own righteousness or effort; because it is based on His grace, his love for us; because it is given to us as a gift from the owner of life, cannot fail us.

So, in these uncertain times those who know Him, those who know the Lord Jesus Christ, will do great exploits. We will rise above every challenge because we are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus, and his promise to us is contained in the words of the prophet Isaiah, in Isaiah 3:10 where it says, “Say to the righteous that it shall be well with them…"

So, I say to you it shall be well with you. And for your sakes, it shall be well with our nation and the world. We will rise from the despair and pain of this pandemic, from the tragedies of insecurity and the deprivations of our economic circumstances to a bright new day of abundance, prosperity and joy in the mighty name of Jesus.

Once more I congratulate your Eminence, our Primate, and their Lordships, Archbishops and Bishops present, all members of the clergy of the Anglican Communion, and friends from other denominations on this auspicious occasion of the 11th Synod and I pray that the almighty God will bless and prosper the Church of Nigeria Anglican communion and you all in Jesus mighty name, Amen.

PoliticsEfcc's Mr. Ola Olukoyede, Has Never Worked For Vp's Simmoncoopers by ojokolax(op): 1:27pm On Jul 26, 2020
it is funny how all those peddling false news about Prof Osinbajo are like Roaches, the more you kill them, the more they multiply. Another FakeNews has been dispelled with the first investigation into the claims by the Nation Newspapers.

It was gathered that Olukoyede had worked as a consultant and managed corporate intelligence portfolio before joining EFCC.
Social media reports had claimed that the EFCC Secretary was unduly favoured by Osinbajo to be appointed to the position.
But the document seen by The Nation showed that the claim was “not only false but also discreditable to the person of Ola Olukoyede.”
The document said: “Oluyede has never stepped or walked into the office of SimmonCoopers all his life, not to talk of working for the law firm.

“In his career profile and curriculum vitae, which he submitted to the Senate during his confirmation hearing in November 2018, Olukoyede worked for a finance and investment company Ecodev Investment as an investment officer for about five years before he started his law career with Legal Research and Corporate Development Projects (LRCDP Consulting) as a research partner.
“At LRCD, he acted as a consultant and managed corporate intelligence portfolio with a number of high profile organisations in clientele, including financial institutions and law enforcement agencies from 2002.”
The document gave more insight into the antecedents of Oluyede as an expert on anti-corruption strategies.
It added: “In 2008, he established Global Compliance (GRC) a governance, risk and legal consulting outfit as a managing partner where he led and managed as an attorney, Investigation and Civil Litigation of fraud and corruption on international aid projects.
“He has also been involved for several years even preceding the establishment of SimmonCoopers partners, in the development and implementation of strategic policy documents for operations, legal and administrative units of various anti-corruption agencies, including EFCC, as a trainer and consultant.
“Also in the same year 2008, he established his Law practice, Ola Olukoyede & CO, from where he joined EFCC.”

PoliticsFAKE NEWS: Sun Newspaper Power Reforms Story Malicious, False by ojokolax(op): 1:03pm On Jul 24, 2020
When the Sun Newspapers went online with their fictitious story about the Senate gunning for Vice President Osinbajo and former minister of power Mr. Raji Fashola, the only thing they had on their mind was a few extra Naira in their pockets from the impressions to be generated with the click bait.

As expected Nigerians did not take long to go gung-ho with the news, without trying to check its veracity. A couple of badly laid claims propped up all over the piece but the most glaring one that should have marked it for the hatchet job that it was, was that it tried to allude that Prof Osinbajo was a member of the Power Sector Reform Committee before 8th of March 2020, when he was so appointed by President Buhari.
https://punchng.com/buhari-appoints-osinbajo-to-head-power-sector-reforms-group/

A cursory glance at the twitter handle of the Nigerian Senate @NGRSenate would also show that the law makers also did not have an axe to grind with the former minister of power but rather their angst was fully centered on the privatisation committee of the Jonathan Administration who performed a botched job in the sale of the DisCo’s to incompetent persons.

Senator Gabriel Suswam who is the Chairman of the committee, alleged that from his experience of having been a member of @TCN_NIGERIA before his foray into politics was of the opinion that the problems we are currently facing was as a result of the hurried privatisation. He stated that unless something was done continuing to pump money into the DisCo’s would only amount to an exercise in futility.

While the full recommendation of the Senate is yet to be made public, it is safe to say that they are seriously looking to find a way out of the unwholesome and unbecoming contracts signed with these companies with no capacity to deliver. Senator Sabi Abdullahi, stated that the DisCos do not even know their customers let alone how much they are earning as revenue. He concluded by saying that the Senate might need to make drastic decisions so that the right people can be put in place.

As a frequent road user from the North to the West I can attest to the Ministers claim that the roads are a lot more pleasurable to traverse these days than a couple of years ago.
PoliticsSecond Niger Bridge Would Be Completed By 2022 – Fashola by ojokolax(op): 12:43pm On Jul 23, 2020
The minister of works and housing, Mr. Raji Fashola stated that despite the weeks lost to the Covid19 lockdown, the second Niger bridge was still on course to be completed in 2022, amongst many other things earlier today while fielding questions on the program, HAVE YOUR SAY on the Network of Radio Nigeria.

On the challenges on infrastructure posed by Covid19 and its impact on Nigerians, the minister said that Nations of the world, rich and poor alike continue to invest in infrastructure because that is the fastest way to grow the economy.

The value chain in construction of houses or roads ensures that money continually flows around the economy and we can notice this already from the way that the new drive of this Buhari and Osinbajo administration in infrastructure has helped push us up 37 places to our current position of 131 as released by the World Bank.

When asked what is the general state of our roads and why are some major ones taking too long to complete, Mr. Fashola stated the projects are looking long because most of them were inherited from the last administration which bare paid any service to them especially at a time when Nigeria was earning huge dividends from crude oil sales.

“Secondly these roads cover huge distances, for example the lokoja – Abuja road is about 300km, while the Lagos – Ibadan road is almost 200km. When we have to dig up laterite and relay the roads where bad, you can see that it is time consuming, but we are steadfastly working. We plan to have about 22 roads completed by 2021.”

“The recent announcement of the release of the SUKUK bond this past Monday, would see to the reengagement of our contractors especially on the major roads. As for the plight of the comuters on the Lagos – Badagary road, that project is being handled by both the State and Federal Government. Lagos State is in charge of the portion from Eric Moore till Okokomaiko and the federal Government takes it from there to Seme border. Work is ongoing and I receive a report from both teams on a weekly basis.”

“We are also paying back State Governments in a time of scarcity for roads they previously constructed in a time of surplus but were not attended to by the past administration. Of the 200 thousand kilometres of road network across the country, only 35 thousand belongs to the federal Government. The remaining 165 thousand kilometres belongs to the States and Local Governments.”

“Our roads are getting better as journey times are much reduced, hardly do you find major delays unless there has been an accident. People should also desist from making bogus claims as recently there was a comedian that alleged that the Niger Bridge was shaking but our engineers on getting to the bridge discovered it was a lie. People should always verify these claims before they broadcast them on Social Media.”

As relates to housing, Mr. Fashola stated that the ministry governs the Federal Mortgage Bank especially through the Broad policy framework. “Over the last five years, 5225 mortgages amounting to 34 billion Naira have been issued. It should be noted that these monies are raised by the monthly contributions of participants.” He added.

When asked about the use of alternative cheaper materials to bring down the cost of housing, the Minister stated; “we cannot tell the full picture of the housing story in Nigeria if we only fixate on the contribution of the Federal Government. The lands are controlled by the states and these alongside the Local Governments and most importantly the private sector have the biggest roles to play.” He added that the biggest contribution of the Federal Government is to provide an enabling environment for these other parties to play their roles.

“As for the innovative materials, we have recorded persons using mud, red bricks, Styrofoam and some are even converting containers. A lot of these are influenced by the prevailing climatic conditions as well as the availability of these materials. We have also come to notice that the North favours bungalows while the south has more preponderance to blocks of flats.”

The Minister also said the issue of collapsing buildings was one of enforcement. “People tend to go past their permits to add extra storeys or under utilise certain materials such as cement or reinforcement rods and these are either not observed or overlooked by the supervising authorities. As such until persons are brought to book and punitive measures taken against them for manslaughter we shall continue to have cases like this.” As soon as we make an example of one, people will begin to desist from such unpatriotic acts, he concluded.

The minister rounded up the discussion on housing by stating that as relates to the completed houses built by the Federal Government there were a few things left to do before they can work on how to advertise and offer them for sale. Some of these includes; internal road network, power and fittings, as well as pilfering and replacements in some certain locations. We also need to look into what percentage to give out to the State Governments that gave us these lands for free.

As for the 10 thousand houses to be constructed in each state, as bench marked by the Economic Sustainability Plan of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo led implementation committee, Fashola said that Nigerians can begin to look forward to the commencement as soon as land is allotted by the state government as the approval has been given from the Federal Executive Council.

PoliticsWe Must Sustain The Ease Of Doing Business Reforms by ojokolax(op): 8:52pm On Jul 21, 2020
The Buhari administration’s business reforms, through the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC), is an opportunity to significantly boost local and foreign investments in the country, according to the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

Prof. Osinbajo spoke today at a virtual meeting of the PEBEC to review the state of the reforms across a number of government agencies, noting that the Federal Government will continue to take the opportunity and ensure that more results are recorded.

As a result of the work of PEBEC, the World Bank has praised the economic direction of the Buhari administration and ranked the country higher in its annual Ease of Doing Business Rankings.

According to the Vice President, “This is a country with so much promise, this is a country that has so much resources and our administration has every opportunity to do something profound about investments in Nigeria.

“We must focus on how to get our business environment working.”

Earlier in his presentation, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Otunba Niyi Adebayo expressed optimism that the challenges observed in sustaining the successes recorded in the reforms will be addressed.

On his part, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Alhaji Mohammed Bello, said sustaining the PEBEC reforms is a priority for Nigeria as the country would not have risen in the Ease of Doing Business rankings if not for PEBEC.

The Special Adviser to the President on Ease of Doing Business, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, said the Enabling Business Environment Secretariat (EBES) will continue to drive the mandate of PEBEC through extensive collaborations, adding that the National Action Plan 5.0 has been extended to July 29, 2020.

Attendance at the meeting, chaired by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, included Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Otunba Niyi Adebayo; Minister of Interior, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola; Minister of FCT, Alhaji Mohammed Bello; Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Pantami; Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed; Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, Amb. Mariam Katagum; Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Folashade Yemi-Esan; Special Adviser to the President on Ease of Doing Business, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, amongst other members of the council.

The administration of President Buhari and VP Osinbajo is determined to leave a lasting legacy in Nigeria's infrastructural landscape.

Rail, roads, bridges are all taking major facelifts where available and new ones being constructed where not.

The sum of N162bn was recently approved to be disbursed across the six geopolitical zones for roads construction.

“This N162bn completes cash settlement for all capital road expenditures in 2020 budget. North Central: 8 roads, North East: 8 roads, North West: 7 roads, South East: 5 roads, South South: 10 roads, South West: 6 roads.’’ ️

This completely debunks claims by certain disgruntled elements that insinuate that the party intends to slow down it's rehabilitation and construction rate to use the projects as campaign propaganda.

Seun, why should Muslims or anybody be allowed to comment on Christian’s post without having to accept Jesus Christ as their lord and personal savior but we have to accept Mohamad as the prophet to alla. It’s not fair. You are a tech man if that’s what you would call yourself. Look at your fellow tech men around the world. Their minds have been evolving. I feel like you have just been stucked in 2005. Common look at your emojis but why the hell shoujd peope acecpt ala before commenting and the same preference is not given to Christians? What the hell is that? Isn’t that hypocrisy? Look at quota reddit and the rest. All you tech guys on this app, please for your next startup, look at creating a community where there is freedom okay? Please Seun, evolve.
As much as I'd like to reiterate that everyone is entitled to an opinion, your failing to even spell Allah properly shows that you are one of those giving us Christians a bad name. As accommodating as we are, I'm sure we all cringe when we see anyone spell Jesus in small letters.
And in conclusion, why not have the cajones to write your own piece instead of hiding beneath another's.
