Autos / Re: The Issue With American Suvs In Nigeria. To Do Or Not To Do. by Okejazz(m): 7:35pm On Aug 31, 2007
Unreliable !!! Common dude, there is got to be more to it why these American SUVs are seemingly axiomatic in Nigeria and enamored of in the US, other than their unreliability. I would suppose as a vast majority are bulky 4X4 they would come in good use for traveling in rural areas.

In any case, if made to choose among these vehicles (American SUV) which would you suggest? The Hummers, the Jeeps, Chevys, Fords,GMCs, etc?
Autos / The Issue With American Suvs In Nigeria. To Do Or Not To Do. by Okejazz(m): 9:13pm On Aug 30, 2007
Fellas, I would like to hear your input on this.

There is the general acceptance of the Toyotas, the Hondas and the rest of the likes of Japanese made vehicles in Nigeria. What about American vehicles and are they any good on Nigerian roads?
Dating And Meet-up Zone / Re: Atlanta Residents Only: Back Off Non Residents by Okejazz(m): 7:18pm On Aug 24, 2007
Personally, I think no Vick, no Falcons ****at least for this season ****because of the impact he has had on the team since he’s been onboard.

Listen, Micheal Vick is one of the fastest quarter backs in the NFL. It’s even often disputed that he is faster than most running backs in the league. Plus he’s got a great arm. Now in his current absence, the Falcons just have to move on.

My guess is, perfect their running game with Dunn while waiting on a God sent in next years April draft.

Travel / Re: Mardi Gras by Okejazz(m): 3:35am On Jul 24, 2007
j-girl:

Mardi Gras is really great.

Every February, Mardi Gras takes place. Most people get heavily drunk during the parades but not everybody.
It's just a joyous period and there is nothing evil about it in my opinion. They have tons of floats and parades where people in masks throw beads, cups, stuffed animals and some other accessories.

They name each float and there is always a Ball the weekend before the original Mardi Gras (Big Tuesday). Leading to the main Mardi Gras, they have about 3 weeks of parades. Not always everyday but the closer we get to Mardi Gras, the more the parades get. Some of the parades named are Proteus, Orpheus, Morpheus, and many other Greek names. In one of the Parades I went to, they also had an African parade (which made me proud of Course) where they named floats after Sango, Ogun and Osun.
During Mardi Gras, New Orleans becomes overfull because people come from every where and anywhere.
If it Mardi Gras was evil, I would have been affected but I've been attending it since 2005 (3 times). It's a really fun time.

Are you planning on going to it anytime soon?

I've been in the N.O (New orleans) for a hot minute and have attended quite a number of the coconut-hauling ZULU parades (including their after parties) but have never been fortunate to see the Sango, Ogun and Osun floats. It bet Naija still represented owanbe style.

I have a SAMSUNG IP 830w GSM/CDMA smartphone which i bought here in the US and I was wondering what applications i'ld need to get my phone to do anything for almost nothing.

Right now i pay $15 a month for a Power Vision access package with my service provider (Sprint) (different from my regular monthly plan)which allows me the privilege to watch CNN, Fox Sport, and listen to different radio channels on my phone.

If there is a way out , pls,pls hook a brotha up.
Business / All Business Should Make Profit by Okejazz(m): 6:46pm On Jun 08, 2007
Cool downu!!! No, no,, this isn't one of those get-rich-quick schemes usually proposed by a few hungry and persisting nairalanders in this section.  grin.
Like you, i've also seen enough.

Rather, this thread is to be used as a melting pot of ideas and viewpoints for our learning as to what the goal of business should be. The general conception is that a business is created to break even, make gains, expand or compete and make more gains. That if it don't money, it don't make no sense. What are your views about this?

Diana Krall….still climbing the ladders? I go fight you o

Please let it be known that Ms Krall captivates me with her music every time unlike the favorites mentioned above (KG, Coltrane, Miles, etc)
When I heard her the first time, I wan mara…, i say who be this?

Tell me of any woman in her league that delivers the same quality of jazz music.
When she sings I envision the beauty in her soul and heart, like it beckons onto me.
Plus, she has also added a feminine warm appeal to various jazz numbers of the notables.

To top it off, she is BEAUTIFUL.
(Lord knows i get tired hearing those brothas.)

Oh, my all time favorite (eventhough tagged Afrobeat) is no other but Baba himself Eba mi da, Fela Anikulapo Kuti simply because he speaks of issues we all can identify with in Nigeria, SUFFER SUFFER, YELLOW FEVER, DEAD BODY, HUMAN RIGHTS,ETC.
(him pickin them dey try but no measure up to their papa)

Poems For Review / Re: Fond Thoughts (An Original Poem) by Okejazz(m): 3:44pm On May 15, 2007
I love poems like this, very romantic

But I must confess

On reading the 1st few lines i almost dismissed the credibility of its originality.

Simply because it reminded me of Teddy Pendergrass's "You're my latest, my greatest inspiration" ( an oh so lovely piece)

On further reading, i was quickly enraptured in a daydream right in my office

with a beautiful Nigerian lady with an alluring ambience and a bodacious curve

Talk of wishful wanting, till i spilled my coffee all over my desk cry

Anyway, i love it , keep it up.
Religion / Re: Are Nigerians Truly Religious Or Mere Pretenders? by Okejazz(m): 10:27pm On May 13, 2007
The word Nigeria across the world is often synonymous with “419”, ”dubious”,  “cheats”,  “money hungry“ and  “political unrest”. But we have all these all over the world and the sins of a few does not make all sinners (pretenders). Besides it is proven that it is much easier to do wrong/evil than to act accordingly in truth.

You can’t tell me we don’t have the religious-acting in the US or UK that is supposedly a better country. They are just better at it.

With Nigeria our country, we shouldn’t see the cup as half empty but half full.

What we are going through, believe me has happened in other countries in some form, if not going to happen, or currently happening. If you do some further research on America (mentioned earlier) that seeming is religious and purports freedom, you'll find out the waters of the vices in this country run really deep. They just have some measures to curb their negatives.

I believe Nigeria will be great again. It will. But it would take us the people to put aside our differences and really work together "in truth" to build our country.

Religion / Re: Are Nigerians Truly Religious Or Mere Pretenders? by Okejazz(m): 3:19am On May 12, 2007
Sleekmike, thanks for this thread and I wish to add to the discussion by first saying ”all this una gra gra and talk talk so tay spit don full my computer, QUIET!!!” Please at ease on the personal joust.

This leads no where. Listen, until there is a renewal of the mind in every Nigerian; man, woman, boy, girl, even babies we will continue to be “mere pretenders” irrespective of our religious beliefs.

I called my distant relative in Nigeria (still in elementary school) months ago and in our conversation he said he wanted to be a politician in future. I asked why, he replied “ so he can eat his national cake”.

Sadly but true, you don’t have to be a politician to be a “pretender” or fake in Nigeria. The ubiquity of this stench is everywhere; churches, mosques, banks, governmental positions, traditional leaders, policemen, etc whatever, u name it, u can actually SEE it. And as long as we decide to shelve these issues rather than deal with them squarely, we can not make any headway. I mean look at our last election.

I for one, personally have no moral right to point accusing fingers on anyone; PDP, EFCC, Atiku, and so on. But I do think what we need in our country is a stronger judiciary so we can curb these nonsense.

My people have a saying that (s)he who speaks the truth will live long.

My hats off to those Nigerians living the truth.

A virus that drinks (invigorated by) Star too? smiley

The pathophysiology of the hepatitis B virus (HBV) is totally different from chronic liver problems (alcoholic liver disease, more likely) attributed to years of alcohol abuse.

On the greater scheme of things, i’m more interested in this study and the sampling and demographics of this population size.

11.Chevy Tahoe 2003
Health / Re: Hepatitis B by Okejazz(m): 4:42pm On May 11, 2007
To my understanding the hepatitis B virus isn't anything like HIV simply because:

a. For one, the body's immune system can hold off the Hep B virus longer than HIV i.e. one can be a carrier in the event one is infected with Hep B much longer than with infection with HIV.

b. While Hep B affects the liver (and its related functions), the HIV attacks the body's own immune system (specific and eventually non-specific) leaving one open to all types of pathogens. You could die of AIDS (from HIV) due to infection from both foreign pathogens and normal flora (microorganisms on our body) while with hep B you can die probably from cirrhosis, cancer or hepatic encephalopathy.

c. In the worst case with hep B, surgery can be done (where 60% of a donor liver is transplanted, (problem, compatibility, so be ready to be on a list ). Most people seek family members and the liver regenerates completely in 8-10wks (donor and receiver). But in HIV , there is still NO CURE.

At least, there is a vaccine for Hep B.
