Sports › Re: Segun Odegbami Runs For FIFA Presidency by Okies27(m): 8:56pm On Sep 01, 2015 |
metronaija: https://footballlive.ng/footballnews/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/odegbamm.jpg African ace football legend and one of the greatest Nigerian players of all time, Segun Odegbami, has thrown his hat into the ring to contest for the post of President of FIFA – the international governing body of association football across the world, with election scheduled to take place on the 26th of February, 2016in Zurich, Switzerland.
The position of the President of FIFA is now vacant since the current president – Sepp Blatter – resigned his appointment in June 2015. According to Segun Odegbami, also known as ‘Mathematical Odegbami’ – a label he was given because of his masterful exhibition of engineered dribbles, technical control of the ball and goal-scoring skills during his footballing era – said, “The current scandal at FIFA is the organisation’s worst crisis in its 111 years of existence. Moving forward, FIFA thus require a new era of leadership that can restore the dignity of the noble sport and that of this esteemed international institution with global followership”
Odegbami believes that to address this will demand that FIFA purges itself, launders its image, restores its reputation and reinstates integrity into its activities and operations and that this would require a new form of leadership with a renewed vision. He said: “Times like this call for all concerned members of the global football family to contribute to the actualization of renewed objectives for FIFA by electing a deserving and qualified person, with the right character that can achieve the desired goals and restore confidence and integrity to the organization and its activities. The world is very interested in who becomes the next President of FIFA, considering the present image and state of this institution and I see myself fitting into this role”
A look at Segun Odegbami’s background reveals a wholesome and rich antecedent that reflects that this legendary son of African does qualify for this post and has what it takes to effectively represent the Nigerian nation and African continent at FIFA. Odegbami’s relationship with football, started when he was 5 years old With his pedigree, passion, vision, experience, knowledge and character – most of which are evidenced in his broad and global experiences and exposures – this epitome of humility and visionary leadership has demonstrated astute discipline and integrity in all his activities and endeavours, within and outside football. The former captain of the Green Eagles, with 46 caps and 23 goals for the national team and one of those that made the number 7 jersey popular, had also served as an administrator, an educator, a writer, international media personality and as Sports Ambassador of Nigeria.
The choice of an African, specifically a Nigerian, may look far-fetched in this pursuit, noting the international coverage of FIFA and the historical trend in its leadership representation. However, a closer scrutiny of the international footballing environment reveals the real possibility of such a change. Throughout the history of FIFA, the organisation had been led by 7 Europeans and one South American, never an African! This despite Africa’s tremendous contributions to the game. Therefore, Odegbami’s aspiration for the leadership of FIFA and noting that he is representing the African continent creates an opportunity to make it the time for Africa.
The bid, from this internationally acclaimed and highly decorated sports man, who has bagged many honours and awards, among which are the national honour of Member of the Order of the Niger, the Fellowship of the Nigerian Institute of Management, FIFA/Mastercard African Players of the 20th Century award, an Honorary Doctorate Degree [Sports] from Bradley University, Illinois, USA, and an Ambassador of the 1-Goal Education-for-All World Cup 2010 Campaign, will be positioned on core messages that this is an African bid, that it is Africa’s turn to lead FIFA, that the spirit and essence of football can reach and permeate far beyond a game of sport, and that football administration can be renewed and viewed from the unique lens of Africa. In his words, “football is what my entire life has revolved around. My life’s ambition has always been to use football to make a difference in my local space and across the world, to go back to the original mission of promoting peace and cementing the bonds of friendships amongst the citizens of the world, and maximizing the global followership of the game to transform the lives of people and communities and advance social causes around the world”
Hence, Odegbami’s approach will pay a lot of attention to issues beyond the current power struggles in football, by exploiting and exploring the sport in a holistic way and focusing on the positive products and by-products of the game that can positively influence and impact on the youths and broader communities of the world. Odegbami promises to steer the activities of the office of the President of FIFA with the highest sense of responsibility, integrity, transparency, probity and accountability, as reflected by the current spirit of value-based leadership now in Nigeria, thereby creating a new and optimistic future for football that further focuses on human, infrastructural, social and community development across the world.
The process for the attainment of the position of President of FIFA is a long and tedious journey, which Segun Odegbami is prepared to travel. He has already conveyed his intention to the Nigeria Football Federation, as required by the electoral guidelines and FIFA Statutes, as well as to the federal government seeking their support.
The deadline for candidates to formally present their nominations through their home football federations, with other supporting documents, is 26th October 2015. Candidates will also undergo an integrity test, through FIFA’s ad-hoc election committee. Segun Odegbami now seeks the support and prayers of all Nigerians, the African continent and, indeed, the whole world, in taking up this challenge to recreate a new image for the game of football and reposition its developmental influence and possibilities across the globe.

Who are you to stop the government from informing the citizens the state of their country as managed or mismanage by Jonathan. Nigerians have begun to see light, the days of PDP's impunity to its members and Nigerians is the last chapter of our history. State you views as loud as you can as the opposition, Nigerians don dey see light, if you wail with you eye closed na you sabi. . Every Nigerian knows corruption has been instituted since 1805 and GEJ tried fighting it but he couldn't in totality and he was termed weak. But the institutions he created to fight corruption should not be discarded because it will make them start all over again and as you know,APC has just 4yrs to prove their manifestos. They should stop the propaganda but continue with the nation building blueprint left by the last dispensation if they couldn't come up with one for 100 days. |

Whynotthetruth: Its about 100days of President Buhari in office, and I feel if APC and Buhari's media crew thinks it is too early to judge Buhari; they should kindly note too that it is too early to bamboozle us with lies and phantom achievements; let's recover from the shock of the ones we were inundated with during the polls, which they keep denying daily now. Does it mean we cannot take our President's words to the bank?
It should be noted here that President Buhari ran on the platform of a political party(APC), as Nigeria constitution does not recognize independent candidature. Hence it holds true that he's bound by the actions and inactions of his political party and just like he stated during the palace coup of Dr Saraki & Dogara in NASS elections that the party is supreme. So it will go against his hyped integrity to now deny promises, and pledges made on his behalf by his party. While his party & media crew goes on to mock us more by shifting the blame to a faceless group, while forgetting that they garnered some votes due to these promises they are denying today.
LET'S EXAMINE SOME POINTS RAISED BY SHEHU GARBA(Buhari media chief). http://sunnewsonline.com/new/understanding-buhari-in-100-days/#comment-1513299
A. President Buhari media crew need to answer these questions as regards denying such documents as; "One Hundred Things Buhari Will Do in 100 Days" & “My Covenant With Nigerians".
1)Does it mean that Shehu Garba is saying he's incompetent to manage the media group of the president if he can't control his imaginary out of control media partners? If he couldn't manage a campaign outfit, are we to expect more excuse for failure at presidency now?
2)Would he have maintained silence if the news were detrimental to Buhari success at the polls? ...Doesn't he know that his principals integrity & change mantra contradicts obtaining favours(votes) by false pretense or deceit as in this case? Or were they out deceive Nigerians by maintaining treacherous silence even they knew those documents were not real?
3)Does he know the number of people who voted Buhari thanks to those promises and publications? Or is he accepting that Buhari obtained such votes by deceit? which is a crime or specifically corruption in itself?
4)So if they are denying those promises, can he kindly release a copy of the authentic promises of Buhari?
B. ACCORDING TO Shehu Garba, a national emergency with regard to SALARY payment IS ONGOING.
1)Isn't there the risk of some governors especially those who mismanaged their allocations in the past repeating same with this bailout?
2)Didn't the president deem it fit to set up a committee to actually find out the exact state of finance in some of these states, to know if there are other causes outside reduced allocation for these salary arrears accumulation?
3)Didn't the President feel it was important to know why states like Anambra are not indebted while others with similar fortune are? Because it is a pointer that something is definitely wrong with some indebted states outside the general crises of reduced allocation...
4)Where's the fund coming from? Government or commercial banks? If government, was it appropriated for
C.OUR SECURITY & OUR NEIGHBORS
1)Isn't it same President Buhari that slammed his predecessor for lobbying our neighbors to support and join in fight against insurgency that you're eulogizing for doing same thing?
2)Even Kaduna state governor; Elrufai ridiculed former president Jonathan for same action. How come same fit is now recorded as an achievement under Buhari?...
3)Are you per chance insinuating that you undermined previous government by those acts above; thereby politicizing security of lives & property for political gain?
D. WAS IT FOREIGN POLICY OR FOREIGN TRIP?
1)...because I am yet to read any with regard to the former initiated by this administration.
2)Do we really need those sweet words from foreign governments massaging our ego to know we are getting it right here?
3)Isn't it also too early to gloat in those accolades given that this government is yet to find its feet hence no policy, no cabinet, no nothing?... So what criteria or indices did they use in assessing this government to arrive at such conclusions for which we should roll out our drums?
4)Does President Buhari believe that outsiders(G7 & co) would solve our problems better than us? Would they offer us any free lunch? At what cost is their love for us coming?
E. ECONOMIC MANAGEMENT
1)If President Buhari's body language fixed power(Note that some areas in Southeast like Anambra state, recorded average of 16-20hours already by late 2014); kindly request him that he allow same body language to fix our security agencies as bribes are still collected in broad daylight from motorists. Even cost of foodstuffs isn't listening to this body language yet; including armed robbers, ritualists etc. This body language should be extended to other sectors including our roads...
2)Is he planning to invest in distribution sector of power that has been privatised by declaring it as next phase of challenge? Have we gotten our transmission sector which is government responsibility up to optimal capacity?
3)Maybe Shehu Garba may need to be reminded the exchange rate at handover to this government. Inflation rate was single digit too, so why add it to President Buhari who has no economic team or policy to absorb the economic crises around the world today.
4)Doesn't Buhari media crew know that NSE has lost over 2.7trillion worth of investment thanks to Buhari's lack of economic direction, focus, policy & team So which imaginary Nigerians are enjoying his phantom economic management prowess?...
5)Doesn't President Buhari know that SME's are having hard times while some are downsizing because of CBN recent monetary policy? And its multiplier effect is seen in increased unemployment group...
6)Didn't his media crew read from NSA that new job creation decreased to around 2.35% from 3.86% but around this time last year, same was 7%?
7)What has Buhari done in agriculture sector? Maybe its time he acknowledged his predecessor's achievement for which he wants to take glory from backdoor.
F. CORRUPTION:
1)All we hear daily is media prosecution, media blackmail, & media conviction. Only if he can respect our constitution that says that one is innocent till proven guilty.
2)Only if he can reduce the noise and allow his actions do the talking...
3)Only if he can let us into his numerous allowances as challenged by Governor Fayose and not mere salary cut; which even RMFAC law doesn't recognize.
4)Only if he knew the damage he is doing to workers morale by stunting career growth via he's appointing outsiders(Retirees) to head some bodies eg DSS, Custom etc..
5)Only if he knew to what extent he has divided & polarized the country by his 95%/5% analogy including his skewed appointments and central government outlook in general...
Thanks...
God bless us all...as we watch this change . Change mantra indeed. I think it worked o cos no August break this year o. Are we going to see any good soon? Chaiiiee, diaris God o |

Politics › Re: Appointments: Buhari, APC Move To Pacify S’east by Okies27(m): 2:07pm On Aug 30, 2015 |
Yhunoos: There were indications on Saturday that President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress had begun moves to compensate the South-East for not getting any appointments so far in the current administration.
SUNDAY PUNCH reliably gathered that some states in the geopolitical zone might get more than one ministerial slot.
The Presidency and the APC sources, who spoke to SUNDAY PUNCH on condition of anonymity, also justified the appointments made by Buhari on Thursday.
A top member of the party said the President was not unmindful of criticisms that greeted the alleged lopsided appointments.
He said, “The President has assured us that all zones that have not been represented in the appointments he has made so far will be compensated.
“For example, some states in the South-East may get more than one ministerial slots. The President is going to make board and ambassadorial appointments. All zones, including the South-East, will be represented in this government.”
Prominent Nigerians and socio-political groups, have criticised the appointments made by Buhari so far.
Out of 31 appointments made so far, 24 of the appointees are from the North and seven are from the South. The South-East has no representation in the Buhari-led government.
SUNDAY PUNCH however gathered that the emergence of the new Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Pastor David Lawal, and the Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari, was the result of the politics among power blocks in the APC.
It was learnt that the two appointees belonged to the Congress for Progressive defunct Change, which Buhari led, before it merged with other parties to form the APC
A Presidency source told one of our correspondents that Lawal and Kyari were picked because of their closeness and loyalty to the President.
The source said, “Although the President is a loyal member of the party, the levels of trust he has in the members differ. There are various blocks in the APC.
“You don’t give appointments such as chief of staff and the SGF to your rival or his loyalists; you give them to those you can vouch for. Those posts are ears and eyes of the President and they are not subjected to the party’s ratification.”
It was also gathered that the latest appointments confirmed the existence of various power blocks in the APC.
It will be recalled that the CPC, led by Buhari, merged with the Action Congress of Nigeria, the All Nigerians Peoples Party and a faction of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, led by the Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, to form the APC.
They were later joined by five governors, who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar also defected from the PDP to the APC.
Meanwhile, the Presidency, on Saturday, assured Nigerians that by the end of the series of appointments being made by Buhari, no part of Nigeria would feel alienated.
The Special Assistant to the President on Media Affairs, Mr. Garba Shehu, said this in a telephone interview with one of our correspondents.
When asked if the South- East and other parts of the country, who are complaining of being marginalised by Buhari would be compensated, Shehu said appointments so far made by the President were just a few out of so many that would be made by the President.
He said, “There will be ministers, heads of government departments, federal boards and ambassadors. At the end of the exercise, no part of the country will be left feeling left out.”

Krucifax: Much has been made of President Buhari's recent appointments. Some see them as being nepotism, with him giving a majority of the appointments so far to Northerners. In response to this some have defended by saying that under Jonathan the Northerners were also not given a fair shot at key positions. This list below totally debunks that. It shows that whilst Jonathan had many failings nepotism and traibalism was not one. GEJ ran an inclusive government, and we admonish Mr President to do the same. Competence, ability and integrity is not the sole preserve of any one region. You should have a government that reflects the diversity of the great nation of Nigeria.
List of Northerners appointed under GEJS government
Vice President -North. Namadi Sambo Kaduna State Senate President –North. David Mark Niger State Speaker House of Reps - North. Aminu Tambuwal Sokoto State Head of Service - North. Danladi Kifasi Taraba State INEC Chairman - North. Attahiru Jega Kebbi State Inspector General of Police - North. Suleiman Abba Jigawa State Chief Justice of federation - North. Ibrahim Shekarau Kano State MD Port Authority- North. Habibu Abdullahi Kano State MD Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation – North Alh Umaru Ibrahim Kano State
Please feel free to share this list with other so they are also enlightened. . The north has been heading most portfolios since only God knows when and the country is this corrupt. Therefore, they're the most corrupt people in Nigeria. I thought they said the north are the least developed state when it comes to education and they still hold these positions. No wonder nigeria has become a joke in the world. |

Career › Re: Excuse Me, Mr. Self-employment Advocate! by Okies27(m): 8:52am On Aug 22, 2015 |
neahyo: The last decade has witnessed a surge in all manner of motivational talk in Nigeria. Hundreds of seminars and thousands of articles have been churned out by the motivational talkers and the frenzy continues to gain momentum. This is good, as everyone surely needs motivation.
One of the most common subjects of such talks is entrepreneurship/self-employment. Good subject. I believe it is good to be self- employed and seriously craves being one. The benefits of owning one’s business are pretty obvious: you are in full control of your resources (time, finance, etc), you share all the rewards. Fine point. Owning one’s business is clearly one of the best goals a person should desire to achieve. It even makes you exercise your brain more. Most of the richest people in the world own their businesses, their brands. Aliko Dangote owns Dangote Group (although being a PLC, he doesn’t have 100% ownership); Mike Adenuga owns the Adenuga empire; Michael Dell owns Dell Computers; Bill Gates owns Microsoft; Mark Zuckerberg and friends own Facebook, etc. These guys are bottomless moneybags. No disputing that. They have done their selves some good by coming up with some ideas and making money from them. The entrepreneurship advocates therefore have in them fantastic examples to draw from in their self-employment sermonizing. But that is where it ends.
The self-employment preachers in Nigeria, good as their intention is, are however beginning to go off the mark. And this is where my problem with them lies. There is a dangerous trend of demonizing paid employment in the thriving business of self-employment advocacy. Every Ade, Ada and Adamu that can string two words together has turned into self-employment preacher and the fad is to demonize paid employment. Being in salaried job, to them, is slavery.
First, our self-employment advocates oversimplify things and sometimes when you listen to them or read what they write, you begin to wonder why they are not Dangote themselves. To be sure, I don’t have a problem with self-employment preachment; indeed, it is my ultimate goal too to own companies and businesses too, on full time basis. I also hold that being self-employed, if one gets it right, is better than being under someone else’s control. But is everyone cut out for being self- employed? Capital NO.
This is why I think in the process of advancing their advocacy, salaried jobs should not be demonized. I don’t believe salary job is necessarily slavery. I also don’t hold that you cannot be rich with paid job. You may not be as rich as Dangote or Adenuga, but if you work hard to become CEO of Shell Nigeria (a salaried job), for instance, I doubt your next generation can ever be poor. Not everyone will be as rich as Dangote, but with a dint of hardwork, becoming a manager in a decent company can earn you decent saving, and with sensible investment (preparing for retirement), you can live a satisfactory post-salary life.
I have seen some young graduates and prospective graduates vowing they can never work for anyone and they will go straight into entrepreneurship. Good one, if you have the idea. But managing businesses most times goes beyond the theories we read in those materials and the smooth talk of the self- employment advocates. Apart from the constraint of raising capital to fund the idea, there is an even more critical factor in management. Most times if you have never worked for any other person, you may find it difficult in running your own businesses.
Fola Adeola and Tayo Aderinokun founded GTB after working for other banks; Aig-Imoukhude and Herbert Wigwe apprenticed with GTB before breaking out to found Access Bank. Most of these guys cut their management teeth working for someone else. This is why I hold that learning by being under someone else’s employ is most times helpful. Of course, I have not said it is necessarily the case. It is very possible to go straight into one’s business after finishing school and still go ahead to make it big. Aliko Dangote is an example here. He started straight away. So, oh you self-employment preacher, before you tell me I am a slave for choosing the path of salaried employment (for now), know you that the CEO of Shell is a ‘slave’ to Shell. I want to be one.

eme40rald: Hello nairalanders
It is with sadness and hurt that I decided to ask guidance on what action I should take with regards to the event that happened in my life.
I met a guy two years ago and fell in love with him wholeheartedly in fact he is my first love. the relationship was fun and romantic. I lost my innocence to him. Although there were times I had suspicions and I would confront him about it but he always found a way to clear my suspicions. One issue I always felt bad about was that he never took me to his family. As at the beginning of the relationship about a month into it his sister got married and I was not invited I felt maybe it was too early and shrugged it off. he never used my pictures as dp claiming he doesn't feel its proper until we are married. apart from all these he was a sweet and loving man. we were like best friends.
Fast forward to two years later I did something I had never done before. I searched his phone while he was asleep and what I discovered was a blow for me. He was in another relationship!!! I stole the girl's contact and disguised as his colleague just to get information from her with time she was free with me. I discovered they had been dating for seven years and she lived in another state. just last week he said he was travelling for a business event only for me to find out he went for his introduction to her family.
confronted him and he has been begging me to forgive him.
Kind hearted nairalanders please what do I do? should I expose him to the girl or not. . You didn't tell us when u were enjoying it alone. Did u give us small of your juice? Nope. But now u want advice...move on and don't even bother reporting him. |

It is imperative at this junction to make us understand certain things. Lagos State University, the great citadel of Knowledge situated in Ojo area of Lagos State, has had certain issues in the last eight months which had even grounded activities at some period.
Today, 20th of August, 2015; a rainy Thursday, we have experienced two different actions at a time. As at 9am this morning, the students’ Union executive had called for a meeting with regard to the purported mass failure of 200l and 300l students offering General Nigerian Studies (GNS). Due to this, an agreement was made by students in attendance to create awareness by blocking the gates of the campuses. It is to be known that this did not affect movement of our lecturers uploading results in the campus.
Therefore, Dr Adekunle Idris, Chairman of ASUU-Lasu, should hold NANS Zone D (SouthWest) for their acts and not the Students’ Union. If our Lecturers think we would stop and hinder them from making us progress, then it cannot be so. I appease all involved to tread softly due to the owing fact that there is a need to avoid a crisis in Lasu especially at this crucial moment when our academic calendar is found wanting.
I applaud both my Union’s Exco act and the actions of NANS Zone D but we all must remember if we do the right thing at the wrong time then there is a problem. For ecery act, we must have the right timing and as such, I beseech them to take cognizance of that fact.
Repositioning Lasu is the duty of all Lasuites and well-wishers of the University. Let’s try our best to work towards that
