This one is for the gentlemen, guys who truly care for the women they’re with and their looks don’t really mean much to them. It’s a common misconception about men that they care more about the looks, but let’s be honest, who doesn’t care about the looks at first? We all do. But what matters is that we don’t stay too attached to the looks and give other things more importance, things that should matter more and do matter more. Here are ten things men like in women more than good looks, let’s begin. 10. Their support Men love it when their ladies back them up and support them in all of their endeavours. I firmly believe in the saying that behind every successful man, there’s a woman. When your man truly loves you, menial and superficial things go out the window and what they expect from you is what’s going to matter in the long run. 9. Their time I cherish every second I spend with my girlfriend because it’s not easy for her to take time out from her studies etc. But she still takes out ample amount of time for me so that I never feel like I’m being ignored, she’s even met me during her exams even though she still had a lot to study, so I cherish every moment she’s with me. Men love it when their women devote their time to them, because time is one of the most priceless gifts you can give to someone. 8. Their trust Ladies, men don’t just care about how pretty you are, yes they will compliment you every single day because they love you and they don’t care about your looks. What’s more important is trust. My girlfriend had a rough past so it wasn’t easy for me to gain her trust, but I tried my hardest and I finally have it, I’ve finally gained her complete faith and trust in me, this felt like an accomplishment and it still does. 7. When they’re good listeners Men admire it when their women actually listen to what they’re saying and don’t just nod their heads without paying attention to the conversation. Everybody needs someone to talk to, about their days, about their life, about work, so many things happen and so many events unfold everyday and we all need someone to talk to about it all. For me, my day doesn’t feel right unless I call my girlfriend up and tell her how it went, and it makes me feel complete when she actually pays attention to every word I say. 6. Their sense of humour One of the biggest turn ons for me is a great sense of humour. If a girl knows how to joke around and laugh, nothing comes close to how I feel about a girl like that. Men love women with good sense of humour, when they can take a joke and equally give it back. Good looks aren’t everything, it’s more about the personality a woman holds, and sense of humour is one of the biggest parts of someone’s personality. You can tell how lively a person is by their sense of humour. 5. The food Men will be men, food will always be a weakness. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not one of those people who think women should be the ones in the kitchen, no. I sometimes try to cook, although I fail horribly at it but I still try. But the way she cooks is something I admire a lot, I would happily stay home and eat her cooking rather than go out to any fancy restaurant, she’s an amazing cook and I admire that a lot about her. Men love food, men love women who can make good food, it’s not all about good looks. 4. Their ambitions If the guy truly loves you, he’ll always pay a lot of attention to your goals and ambitions. He won’t just be flattered by your looks, he will love you for who you hope to be one day, for what you hope to accomplish one day, he will love you for all of your hopes and dreams and he will try his best to help you reach those goals with all of his heart and soul. 3. When they actually enjoy their food I love it when a girl knows how to eat! I used to date this girl who used to be extra dainty and sophisticated at every lunch and dinner, she used to leave most of her food behind because she was “watching her diet” calorie by calorie. It’s a huge turn off for me when women do that, women should know how to eat, without caring about anyone watching. My girlfriend and I actually fight over food sometimes and it’s something I love about my relationship with her, she’s not nice when it comes to food and I love that about her. 2. When they’re emotional I’m the sentimental type and I love it when she gets all emotional about me or our relationship. Whenever I do something for her, she gets these emotional moments when she just goes on and on about how much I do for her and I cherish her emotions more than her looks. Men love it when a woman can be expressive about her feelings completely. 1. When they’re independent I love it when a woman is self sufficient and independent. A lot of people I know actually feel insecure about this but I am proud of this one fact, it’s a huge turn on for me when a woman is successful in what she’s doing, when she’s ambitious, when she just wants to keep moving forward and keeps accomplishing her goals. My girlfriend is the same and when I see her talk about work, I feel a sudden spark of pride within me. http://www.relrules.com/10-things-men-like-in-women-more-than-good-looks/5/ |
By Abiodun Alade Former governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel has promised the people of the state, especially the civil servants better days ahead when the Peoples Democratic Party presidential and governorship candidate are elected into office in this year’s election. The former Governor disclosed this during the nationwide campaign for the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan of the PDP organised by the Women for Change project of the First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan on Tuesday. Speaking at the event, the former Governor reiterated the commitment of the party in ensuring women inclusive government, while berating the Governor Ibikunle Amosun administration for its lackadaisical attitude towards the welfare of the civil servants and the people of Ogun state in general. ‘When we were in government, we saw the need to provide low-cost housing for civil servants in Ogun State and we did that through the Laderin workers estate which we gave to civil servants at nine hundred thousand naira each but this administration in its attempt to hoodwink the people constructed its worker’s estate and awarded it to civil servants at a whooping twenty five million naira each. How can the civil servants who have been denied their basic entitlements and welfare and salries afford the deposit for this property not to talk of paying twenty five million naira for a low-cost house” Speaking on the demolition of properties, Gbenga Daniel stated that the PDP government will ensure that it rebuild all properties destroyed by the present administration once it gets into power. The first lady, Dame Patience Jonathan who was represented by the wife of the vice-President, Hajia Aminat Nnamadi Sambo, thanked the people for their continuous support for the President and the party, assuring that women will forever be well represented in the Goodluck/ Sambo led government. The event was attended by the PDP Governorship candidate in the state, Prince Gboyega Isiaka, the state party chairman Bayo Dayo, former Deputy Governor, Alhaja Salimot Badru, among numerous others. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/03/re-election-of-jonathan-will-ensure-better-days-for-civil-servants-gbenga-daniel/

Boko Haram Islamists have set fire to homes in Nigeria’s northeast town of Bama that are under their control, forcing residents to flee as troops advance to recapture it, witnesses said Sunday. The Islamists on Saturday told residents of Bama, 70 kilometres (37.5 miles) southeast of Maiduguri, to evacuate before setting fire to many homes as Nigerian troops inched closer in a bid to retake the town, residents told AFP. Women and children fleeing from Boko Haram attacks sit at Kabalewa Refugees Camp, Diffa in Niger Republic, on March 13, 2015. Governor of northeastern Nigerian Borno State Kashim Shettima recently visited refugee camps where Nigerians fleeing from Boko Haram Islamists attacks are sheltered in Diffa province of Niger Republic. More than 13,000 people have been killed and some 1.5 million made homeless in the Boko Haram conflict since 2009, while recent cross-border attacks from Boko Haram bases in Nigeria on neighbouring countries have increased security fears. AFP PHOTO Boko Haram Islamists have set fire to homes in Nigeria’s northeast town of Bama that are under their control, forcing residents to flee as troops advance to recapture it, witnesses said Sunday. The Islamists on Saturday told residents of Bama, 70 kilometres (37.5 miles) southeast of Maiduguri, to evacuate before setting fire to many homes as Nigerian troops inched closer in a bid to retake the town, residents told AFP. The blaze forced hundreds of residents to flee towards Maiduguri, capital of Borno state, the group’s hometown and stronghold. “They came into the town around 12:00 pm (1100 GMT) warning that anyone who wanted to leave should leave the town and soon after they began torching homes,” resident Umar Kaka said. “Not all residents could leave because some are too sick or old to leave and we are afraid they were burnt in the homes,” Kaka said. The arson followed the sacking of the Islamists from nearby Boboshe and Yale villages by troops as they marched towards Bama, said Kaka who arrived in Maiduguri on foot on Sunday. “We learnt soldiers were coming. They advanced on Bama on two fronts and met some resistance at Boboshe and Yale but succeeded in crushing the Boko Haram gunmen,” said Bama resident Ibrahim Kyari. “They asked residents to leave which came to us as a surprise because they kept us captives all these seven months and would not allow us to leave,” Kyari said. Bama, a strategic and historic town in the state, has been under the control of Boko Haram since early September. “I left large groups of people including women and children on the way trekking towards Maiduguri while soldiers moved towards Bama,” said Kyari, who rode to Maiduguri on his bicycle. Boko Haram seized Bama, the state’s second main city, during the rapid capture of several towns and villages in northeastern Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states on the border with Chad, Cameroon and Niger. The Islamists carried out mass killings in the town, forcing hundreds of residents to flee while others remained trapped there. Nigerian soldiers aided by troops from Chad, Niger and Cameroon have in recent weeks reclaimed most of the areas under Boko Haram control. In Borno state, Bama and Gwoza towns were the only remaining towns still under Boko Haram control. Nigeria vowed to reclaim all of its territory occupied by Boko Haram before the general elections which commence on March 28. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/03/boko-haram-burns-borno-town-as-troops-advance-residents/

The chemicals and sugar contained in fizzy drinks ruin your health, check below to find out exactly how. Any doctor will advise that anyone watching their diet and keeping track of what they eat and drink should avoid coke. Drinking Coke is a very bad habit that is not easy to let go because it is very addictive, do not drink it if you want to stay fit and healthy. See what harm Coke actually does to your health. 1. Bad teeth- Cavities occur when we consume too many sugary and acidic foods and drinks and Coke is no exception. It contains both and ruins the enamel. To fix the problem will cost you money. Dental work is never cheap. Of course, you can try and brush your teeth after drinking sodas, but the smarter choice is to avoid them and drink water instead. 2. It increases the risk of diabetes- Carbs is another name for sugars. Most foods contain a lot of carbs. Pouring Coke on top will only make the problem worse. It takes only 20 minutes to increase your blood sugar. It’s extremely hard to treat diabetes, hence, you should stop drinking all brands of sodas, Coke included. 3. It slows down your metabolism- Coke prevents your body from burning fat as fast as it should, causing you to add weight. Drink plain water! 4. Aspartame, known to cause a lot of diseases and affect inner organs, is a chemical found in Coke, so, Coke ruins your body. 5. Coke plays a role in infertility- The chemicals found in Coke might have a negative effect on your reproductive organs, thereby. leading to defects in the reproductory organs. The cons outweigh the cons of drinking coke so, fans of coke, please, take note. A few seconds of pleasure is not worth ruining your health. http://pulse.ng/wellness/healthy-living-5-reasons-why-coke-is-bad-for-your-health-id3558971.html?utm_campaign=art-healthy-living-5-reasons-why-coke-is-bad-for-your-health-2015-03-14&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook |
The Indian prime minister's salary is just 1,900,000 rupees a year, which comes to little over $30,000. That's according to an official response to a freedom of information request submitted by local media. He might be in charge of the world's second largest economy , but Chinese President Xi Jinping's salary is just $22,000 . And that's after a 60% pay rise at the start of this year.

Merkel's salary as German chancellor is set at 216,000 euros a year ($234,383). The chancellor and her ministers got a 2.2% pay rise at the beginning of March, according to government documents. The British prime minister earns £142,500 ($214,782) a year. That includes his salary as a member of parliament, which is £67,060. The French president would have ranked much higher on this list, had he not taken a 30% pay cut the moment he took office in 2012. Without the haircut, Hollande would have earned 255,600 euros a year ($274,522), second only to Obama. Now he makes $194,251. In the face of his country's worst economic crisis in years, Putin said last week he was cutting his salary by 10%. He now earns roughly 8.2 million rubles per year ($136,000) as Russian president.

Russian President Vladimir Putin is taking a pay cut of 10% as his country's economy sinks into a deep recession. But how does his salary compare to those of other world leaders? Here is how the pay of prime ministers and presidents of the big developed and emerging economies stack up, according to the most recent official data and converted into U.S. dollars at the current rate. President Obama leads the pack with $400,000 a year. The presidential salary doubled when George W. Bush became president in 2001. In addition, Obama gets a tax-free expense account worth $50,000. http://money.cnn.com/2015/03/10/news/economy/world-leaders-salaries/index.html?iid=Lead

Soldiers on guard in troubled Southern Kaduna, on Sunday allegedly opened fire on Church workers killing six and injuring three others. The Soldiers allegedly shot watchmen of St. Peters Catholic Church Gidan-Waya area of Jama’a local government who had mounted a temporary stop and search check point in front of their Church as service was on in the morning. According to Christopher, a resident of Gidan- Waya ” It all started when a Soldier who has been in the area went to the Church’s watch men popularly known as Cadet and ordered them to dismantle the temporary check point during the Church service. The boys refused the Soldier’s order on the excuse that Church service was on and that they will do so as soon as service is over. ” But dissatisfied with the explanation, the Soldier went back and mobilised his other colleagues who came and started firing at the local guards. “The gunshot automatically ended the church service. Women and youths immediately reacted to the shooting by confronting the soldiers and as a result one soldier and three other civilians got wounded,” said Christopher. The situation led to a serious clashed between residents and the army personnel. http://thenationonlineng.net/new/soldiers-shoot-worshippers-in-kaduna-kill-six/ |
Gunmen attacked a Sufi mosque in Kabul on Saturday evening, killing at least six people and leaving five others wounded, police officials said, shattering a recent calm in the Afghan capital. The rare attack on the Sufi minority struck around the time of evening prayer at about 7:00 pm (1430 GMT), and though no group claimed the unrest, security officials swiftly announced the arrest of five suspects in connection with the killings. “A group of armed men entered (a Sufi mosque) … and opened fire,” Kabul police spokesman Hashmat Stanikzai told AFP. Deputy interior ministry spokesman Najib Danish confirmed the details of the attack, with the ministry issuing a statement putting the toll at six dead and five wounded. The ministry said five suspects had been arrested, while Stanikzai said an investigation had been launched to “identify the attackers and the motive behind the attack”. Though no group claimed responsibility for the attack, Afghanistan remains plagued by a Taliban insurgency more than 13 years after the militant group was ousted from power. NATO ended its combat mission in late December, leaving a residual force to carry on a training and support mission to Afghanistan’s 350,000 security forces, who now lead the fight against the Taliban. The election last year of President Ashraf Ghani, who pledged to make peace talks a priority, as well as supportive signals from Pakistan which has long held significant influence with the Taliban, has boosted hopes for possible dialogue. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/03/gunmen-kill-six-in-kabul-sufi-mosque-attack/ |

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, minister of finance and coordinating minister of the economy, says she is ready to face advocacy group, Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), in court over alleged missing N30 trillion. SERAP had filed a suit against Okonjo-Iweala at a federal high court in Lagos, challenging her to account for the missing money – an allegation levelled by Chukwuma Soludo, former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria. “It has come to our attention that a so-called civil society group, the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), has brought a politically-motivated suit against the coordinating minister for the economy and minister for finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala based on the discredited N30 trillion allegation by Professor Charles Soludo,” she said through Paul Nwabuikwu, her special adviser on Tuesday. “The suit is the latest in the campaign of falsehood and politicisation of the economy by persons and groups who are getting more desperate by the day because the economy, despite their propaganda, is still standing and will continue to stand. Like their previous efforts, this latest one will fail because Nigerians can see through their antics.” Okonjo-Iweala stated that SERAP was “nothing but a political tool of the opposition hiding behind the façade of advocacy”. “We look forward to meeting SERAP in court,” she added. http://www.thecable.ng/okonjo-iweala-will-meet-serap-court

THE 2015 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME billed to commence on Monday, March 9 has been greeted with confusion and irregularities, as candidates struggle to access the website of JAMB to print examination slips without a success. Complaints from candidates revealed that they were subjected to pay extra charges of N100 to check their examination centres at JAMB office. Just as they also alleged to have paid N700 to register for the exams earlier. While JAMB stated that examination commences on 9th March, many candidates, however complained of being confused about the different examination dates in their slips. On Monday, over 1.4 million students who registered for the 2015 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, will sit for the examination beginning 9th March. Candidates for the first time in the past three years, will compulsorily write the tertiary examinations via Computer-Based Test, CBT, without options of the Paper-Pencil Testing, PPT, or the Dual-Based Testing, DBT. The examination which will commence on Monday, according to JAMB, will run for 10 days, leaving candidates to jostle for the 800,000 admission slots in Nigeria’s tertiary institutions. Although candidates have been informed since 2013 that from 2015, those writing the examination will no longer have the paper-pencil or dual-based testing options but just computer- based testing, it seems many of the candidates are yet to come to the reality of this development. Professor Dibu Ojerinde had in 2013 said: “The CBT is not compulsory, as every candidate would have the choice to choose either the PPT or the DBT but in 2015, it will be compulsory for all UTME candidates.” The Registrar who gave reasons why it was inevitable to do away with the PPT and embrace the computer-based test stated that it will curb examination malpractice and enhance quick release of examination results. He explained: “The idea of the CBT is that after 30 minutes of the examination and the candidate leaves the exam hall, a graphical result of the test will be sent to the candidate’s mobile phone number, while the specific scores will be released within the period of four days.” At the début of this initiative in 2013, the examination body secured 77 centres across the country where the computer-based test held. However, speaking with Vanguard Learning, its Public Relations Officer, Mr Fabian Benjamin said the centres have been increased to 400 across the nation. Whereas in 2013, JAMB recorded just 4,000 registered candidates that showed interest in computer-based test, the remaining 1.7 million did either paper-pencil testing or dual-based testing, but today, the 1.4 million registered candidates will compulsorily sit for CBT. Comparing the statistics of early years of UTME candidates’ registration, we discovered a steady decline since 2013 when the CBT was introduced. In 2013, about 1.7 million people registered for UTME, in 2014, the number fell to 1.6 million, while about 1.4 million have registered for this year’s examination. Performance of UTME candidates The figure for the 2014 UTME shows a decrease of 129,139 when compared with last year’s total figure of 1,735,892 applicants. There is a decrease this year compared to the last year which might not be unconnected with the introduction of CBT. For instance, when it was PPT in 2013, a total of 1.7 million registered for the examination. What could have been responsible for the steady decline? First thing that comes to mind is that our students have improved academically and gained admission to their desired institutions of higher learning. However, the performance of UTME candidates in the past three years have been abysmal. In 2014, only 47 candidates scored 250 and above in the Paper-Pencil Test and Dual- Based Test. In 2013, 10 candidates scored 300 marks and above, while 127,017 candidates scored between 1-159 marks. So, based on the above records, the decline in UTME registration cannot be as a result of academic improvement of students. A school of thought posits that the increase in number of Nigerian universities has absorbed the backlog of unadmitted students. Looking at the capacity of the nine universities added to the existing ones in 2013, you will discover that the total number of students admitted in those public universities are not up to 500,000. So, where have the students gone? Another school of thought believes that private universities have since absorbed the backlog of UTME candidates to their schools. The question begging for answer is: how many parents can afford the fees of these private universities? Many of the private universities in Nigeria collect between N400,000 and N1,000,000 as fees from each student depending on their course. Where have the candidates who registered and failed in 2013 and 2014 gone to? Have they resorted to polytechnics and colleges of education? I am not sure they are there, because of the incessant ASUP strikes, the last which lasted almost a session. Where exactly are these students, over 300,000 students are no where to be found.Could the introduction of CTB have discouraged UTME candidates from registering for the examinations? Registering for the examinations Speaking in this regard, Professor Anthony Kila said: “The fall in number of JAMB candidates in 2015 tell us that Nigerian population is growing, access to Education is increasing and tertiary institutions are also increasing. What those numbers tell us is that people are not having faith in the Nigerian system of education any more. “The uniqueness of JAMB is that it is mainly for Nigerian education. So the fact that the number of candidates who registere for UTME is dwindling, shows that people are not patronising the Nigerian education system, they are looking elsewhere. “The question to be asked is: Why are they looking elsewhere? They are looking elsewhere because quality is low, they are scared of strikes, also people managing the education system don’t have their children in the system. As a result, there are no incentives for citizen to patronise the Nigerian education system. They are going elsewhere, abroad, neighbouring African countries, they are going to private universities. “The only people left to go to Nigerian universities are those that have no choice. It is a very sad and sorry state of affairs for the country. We all need to look into it.” Meanwhile, former Head of Department, Adekunle Ajasin University and Joseph Ayo Babalola University said: “Everyone is aware that the standard of our students sitting for JAMB has fallen drastically in terms of knowledge of the subjects examined by JAMB. We can’t place blame yet until we research into it. However, one reason is that the government, to me, is not doing much in the educational sector, in terms of providing facilities and paying teachers’ salaries as at when due, so that there will be no strikes and no disturbances from the students themselves. Because the disturbances and strikes cause inhibitions to learning and that creates a lot of problems for the institutions. “That is why the statistics is coming down and it will keep coming down, unless the situation is addressed properly by federal government, state government, retired stakeholders, religious bodies that are stakeholders in the sector, and so on. If we do not do this, I would not be surprised if next year it drops further. “During our days, education was not taken for granted as it is these days. Many teachers are not even qualified to teach yet they are employed to teach Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Physics and English Language. You can see the writing skill of the students has dropped drastically because they do not understand English language. Many of them cannot write a sentence correctly. “All these things put together are responsible for the decline in the registration of students for JAMB. Instead of ascending, the statistics is descending and this is because the situation is very bad. Admission to public universities “However, there are some of them who do not have the money to pay for the exam, just as there are others who have gotten admission to public universities but cannot even afford to go there. “Besides, We have seen some students who want to go to universities but their parents cannot afford to send them to public universities, even as low as the public universities charge. “Private universities are also suffering from lack of registration because many of the universities that have just been approved may not have students. Many of the students are staying at home because they cannot pay the expensive school fees. There are a lot of problems and they are mingled together.” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/03/confusion-irregularities-greet-2015-utme-as-exams-begin-monday/

Nurse Nina Pham, the first person infected with Ebola in the United States » has said that her hospital merely used her as publicity stunt, rather invading her privacy and failing to train her. In an interview with Dallas Morning , the 26-year old revealed that nurses in her hospital were ill- prepared for the admittance of Thomas Duncan, the first person diagnosed with Ebola in the United States » after he contracted it in Liberia. According to her, nurses were ill prepared and received little guidance on how to treat Ebola or protect themselves. "I wanted to believe that they would have my back and take care of me, but they just haven't risen to the occasion," she said. It would be recalled that Pham became infected while treating Thomas Duncan, but later recovered and was welcomed in the Oval Office by President Barack Obama. The nurse is now revealing that she plans to sue the hospital for lack of failing to adequately train and prepare its staff to deal with the Ebola situation, citing that nurses initially did not wear hazmat suits when treating Duncan and went in with double gloves taped to double gowns, double booties and face shields. She's also revealed that the hospital violated her privacy, and in one instance, she was videotaped speaking to a doctor and the video was released to the media without her consent. Meanwhile, the hospital did not address the details of Pham's allegeations, rather it released a statement saying that: "Nina Pham bravely served Texas Health Dallas during a most difficult time. We continue to support and wish the best for her, and we remain optimistic that constructive dialogue can resolve this matter. http://pulse.ng/health/nina-pham-ebola-survivor-is-suing-her-hospital-for-using-her-as-a-publicity-stunt-id3532508.html?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=art-nina-pham-ebola-survivor-is-suing-her-hospital-for-using-her-as-a-publicity-stunt-2015-03-03

Sierra Leone’s Vice President Sam Sumana has placed himself in quarantine following the Ebola death of one of his guards, a government spokesman said Saturday, as the country reintroduced travel restrictions as the number of new cases rises again. Sumana “has decided to place himself in precautionary quarantine awaiting the results of tests by the health authorities”, the spokesman said. Sumana’s bodyguard, 42-year-old John Koroma, died from Ebola on Friday, medical sources said. Sources at the vice president’s office said Sumana is not in danger but had decided to stay out of his office for the next 21 days and work from his home in the west of the capital. The government voiced “grave concern” that the fall in the number of new cases seen in the west African nation in recent weeks has been reversed. “The common denominator in the new cases is involvement with maritime activities,” the presidency said in a statement. The authorities, therefore, decided that no boat can enter the country overnight, with marine police alerted to impose the rule. Restrictions were also placed on commercial vehicles and on the number of passengers carried by taxis, lorries and other vehicles. Ebola restrictions were eased in January as the number of new cases fell, in an attempt to boost the economy. However on Wednesday Sierra Leone said it was seeing a spike in Ebola infections, blaming unsafe burials that threaten to undermine the recovery from the deadly epidemic. The west African nation, which has registered some 3,400 deaths in the nine months since the outbreak spread from neighbouring Guinea, had seen a steady decline in new cases over recent months. Ebola, one of the deadliest viruses known to man, is spread only through direct contact with the bodily fluids of the recently deceased or an infected person showing symptoms such as fever or vomiting. More than 9,500 people have died of the disease since the west African epidemic emerged in southern Guinea in December 2013. Liberia has registered the highest death toll of 4,037 fatal cases while Sierra Leone has seen almost half of the total of 23,694 cases. While Liberia is showing only a tiny handful of new cases each week, Guinea and Sierra Leone continue to be a worry to the authorities, who say they still do not have the epidemic under control. Sierra Leone President Ernest Bai Koroma leaves for Brussels on Sunday to co-reside with the EU at an international meeting on the fight against Ebola and measures to facilitate reconstruction in the countries hit by the virus. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/03/sierra-leone-vice-president-in-ebola-quarantine/ |

The trial of the former Governor of Delta State, Chief James Ibori in England cost £14million (about N3.5billion), it was learnt yesterday. Chairman of the Senate Committee on Drugs, Narcotics, Financial Crimes and Anti- Corruption, Senator Victor Lar, announced this when the anti-graft agencies defended their 2015 budgets before his committee in Abuja. But Lar said the Ibori case was prosecuted at no cost to the Federal Government. He saw no need to amend the enabling laws of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC), the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) so they could receive funding directly from the Federation Account. Lar said: “ the conviction was secured with very limited or no funds. People are quick to celebrate the conviction of James Ibori in the United Kingdom. The truth is that to secure Ibori’s conviction, a whooping sum of £14million was expended. “That is more than 10 years recurrent and capital budgets of all the anti-corruption agencies put together.” He added that other countries were able to prosecute financial crimes successfully because a percentage of funds recovered or the proceeds of crime was usually retained by the recovering agency for funding their operations. He stated that most Nigerians are impatient and believe that politically exposed persons are corrupt and should be convicted. He, however said that “the truth is that we observe the rule of law and once you are accused you are taken to court. You have to go through court processes.” He added: “Once you are arrested and taken to court, it is outside the control of the enforcement agencies. “So it is not entirely the fault of the enforcement agencies that there is corruption in the country. “This administration has fought corruption more than any other time because we have more petitions; more people are taken to court and we have more convictions now more than ever before.” http://thenationonlineng.net/new/iboris- conviction-gulped-14m-says-senate/
