Politics / Re: FUEL SCARCITY: No Solution In Sight After N413 Billion Subsidy Approval by Okimski(m): 5:48am On Nov 08, 2015
Hmmmmm
If it were Jonathan's time it would have been clueless, but now nobody is complaining. At the end of this regime, people will know that the previous administration managed things for better and I pray they change for the betterment of the country.
Politics / FUEL SCARCITY: No Solution In Sight After N413 Billion Subsidy Approval by Okimski(m): 5:30am On Nov 08, 2015
The scarcity of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly
known as petrol, which hit the country few days ago, is
beginning to subside following the approval of
N413billion by the Federal Government for immediate
payment of outstanding subsidy claims to oil marketers
in the country . The payment according to government
was to facilitate importation of petroleum products to
ease scarcity, which has become a recurring crisis,
especially in the last quarter of every year.
When Sunday Vanguard, visited some filling stations
within Lagos metropolis, it was observed that long
queues found initially at many outlets were disappearing.
But the situation at Apapa depots where petrol is often
loaded from and distributed to other parts of the country
was a different scenario entirely.
While going round some depots, Sunday Vanguard learnt
that buying petrol from depots poses a big challenge to
many marketers, especially those coming from the
eastern parts, Kaduna, Kano, far north and other places
outside Lagos. Our team gathered that while some
marketers buy from third parties almost at the official
pump price of N87, which they ought to dispense at the
outlets, others spend days, incurring so much expenses
before getting the products from the depots.
Some buyers at the depots, and among them women,
who spoke with our team, expressed displeasure with the
challenges they face in getting products from the depots,
even when there is no scarcity. Madam Lawal (surname
withheld), in a chat with Sunday Vanguard said, “Getting
the products from the depots is sometimes very difficult,
even where there is no scarcity in the country.
Sometimes my truck stays for days before being loaded.
Often, some of us after spending days at the depots buy
from third parties at exorbitant rate, instead of returning
without the products.”
In the same vein, a truck driver, who gave his name as
Baba Isa, said he has been robbed twice along Oshodi-
Apapa road while on queue waiting to get to the depot

In the same vein, a truck driver, who gave his name as

for loading. “I usually come from Kaduna with my
conductor to load the products in Lagos. Sometimes, we
spend up to a week, sleeping on the road before getting
the products. We have been robbed twice and because of
that we do not travel with much money again. We come
with only plastic and few plates. The plastic is what we
use to have our bath only at night along the road, beside
the truck, until we go back”.
Sunday Vanguard also gathered that the outstanding
subsidy claims currently stand at a little above the
monetary value of N400billion, which necessitated the
approval of N413bilion by the government. However,
many stakeholders in the oil and gas sector have advised
the current administration to find sustainable solution to
the recurring scarcity of petroleum products in the
country, stressing that paying marketers N413billion as
subsidy claims would only assist them to pay their debts
in commercial banks, but would not bring a lasting
solution to petrol scarcity in the country.
According to the Executive Secretary, Major Oil
Marketers Association of Nigeria,MOMAN, Mr. Femi
Olawore, government should fully deregulate the
downstream sector and stop controlling shares in the
refineries. “The plants should be given to the private
sector for prudent management. Now, we hear that the
refineries are being maintained by local engineers, which
is what one has always agitated for, that our engineers
have the skills and capability to maintain the refineries,
but the issue has always been ownership of the plants.
For instance, of all the refineries in the US, none is
controlled by government. Over 120 refineries are
privately controlled. So, it sounds very funny when
people challenge the statement that government has no
business in business”, he said.

Politics / Ijaw Group Counters Clark, Lists What He Benefited From GEJ by Okimski(m): 4:35pm On Oct 29, 2015
A group in Delta state, the Ijaw Justice Forum (IJF), on Wednesday, October 28, has criticised Chief Edwin Clark, a former federal commissioner for information for saying he benefited nothing from the former president Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.

The group, in a statement jointly signed by its president and secretary, Karona Etonye and Ekenwan Akwagbe respectively, said it was wicked and mischievous for Clark to say that he did not get anything from the Jonathan-led administration, Vanguard reports.

The IJF said: “This is the peak of ingratitude from a man, who called himself the ‘father’ of the former president. He attracted patronage from the high and mighty from all parts of Nigeria and received gifts of cash and kind because of their perceived closeness of him to Dr. Jonathan.

“It is wicked and mischievous for Clark to say that he did not get anything from the Jonathan administration, including contracts. Perhaps, Clark made this statement to the Vanguard reporter in his dream, has he forgotten that his company was awarded a contract for the reclamation and shore protection of Amadi-ama community in Rivers State by the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs during the Jonathan era?”

In a lengthy letter, Clark poured out his mind, saying he had known Jonathan before he became the president and he didn’t at any time gain anything from being close to the former president.

The IJF said it was quite unfortunate that the elder statesman is still telling lies at the age of 90

“How would Clark say that he did not ask for jobs for his children or for his relatives? Has he forgotten the note he wrote to the former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Elder Godsday Orubebe asking him to use his good offices to make his younger brother, Mr. Isa Clark the Coordinator of the Sure- P programme in Delta South Senatorial District?” the group queried.

They listed some of the things Clark benefitted from Jonathan. They said he applied for and was granted a licence to establish a private university, the E. K. Clark University in his hometown, Kiagbodo, and the NDDC awarded a contract for the sinking of a bore hole in the university campus.

“There are many more gains that Clark made in the Jonathan era; never before in his political life has he gotten the kind of patronage he had under Jonathan,” they added.

The group noted that Clark was in the habit of benefitting from powerful people and then leaving them when the tables turn.
They cited the case of the former Delta state governor, James Ibori, saying Clark was one the elders that benefitted most from Ibori’s administration between 1999 and 2007 but he later sponsored a Delta Elders and Stakeholders’ Forum to petition the EFCC alleging that Ibori committed monumental corrupt practices while in office.

The IJF claimed that the former commissioner played a major role in the failure of Jonathan in the March presidential elections as the insults he rained on leading political figures across Nigeria attracted hatred to Jonathan and negatively affected the outcome of the election results.

Chief Clark was a staunch supporter of Jonathan before he lost the presidential election to Buhari. On Wednesday, October 7, he announced that he had quit the PDP,accusing Jonathan of lacking the political will to fight corruption.
, saying he had no moral justification to condemn Jonathan. They expressed disappointment that Clark would backstab the former president just so he could find favour with the President Buhari-led administration.

Politics / Buhari Disappoints Us, Governments, Read What He Did by Okimski(m): 9:05am On Oct 28, 2015
Justice Pindigi, the former chairman of the Rivers state
governorship petitions tribunal, has recounted his
experience at the tribunal.
He said, "Two weeks before I was removed as chairman
of the Tribunal, I got a call from an unknown number,
asking for an appointment for us to meet in Kaduna.
And I asked, what for?
And the caller said, it's on a need to know basis. That
the details of the meeting would be made known to me
in Kaduna. And I declined.
The next was a call from the DSS, saying they were all
expecting me at meeting in Kaduna. And demanded why
I turned down the appointment. And I said, I'm a
chairman of a Tribunal, and do not have the luxury to
attend meetings. Especially one without an agenda.
And the caller from DSS said there was a petition of
fraud against me, in a case I handled in Kaduna in
2009. And I asked him to charge me accordingly, in line
with the extant laws.
I was called again by another caller; who apologised to
me, on behalf of the DSS. And offered to compensate
me for the harassment I received from the DSS, and
rescheduled another meeting, in Kaduna. And I declined
again.
And the next was a letter removing me as the Chairman
of the Rivers State governorship petitions tribunal, and
replacing me with Justice Ambrosa. As is the practice, I
offered to brief Justice Ambrosa, on the proceedings so
far, but he said that won't be necessary that he has
been following the case.
Now, on the judgement delivered by Justice Ambrosa; it
will be unethical and unprofessional to denigrate, or
condemn the judgement of a contemporary colleague.
However, the Supreme Court has said, that for an
election to be annulled, the petitioner has to prove that
elections didn't hold at the polling units, where the
winner was returned elected. And I'm not sure that the
Ambrosa's judgement arrived through that route.”

Crime / NNPC Staff Shoots Boy Dead For ‘chasing’ Daughter by Okimski(m): 8:39pm On Oct 27, 2015
*Family raises dust, accuses police of shielding suspect
*No, he was a robber — Police
*Why I ordered burial without identification — DPO

By Emmanuel Una

CALABAR—TONGUES are wagging in Calabar, Cross River State, over why the police are yet to arraign in court a dismissed staff of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, who allegedly shot dead a 22-year-old secondary school leaver, Douglas Ochaga Ojugbo, on March 10, for hitting it off with his daughter. Health officials from Calabar Urban Development Authority, CUDA, buried the remains of Douglas, who was preparing to write his 2015 JAMB-UTME examination, in a shallow grave on the orders of the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in the area without identifying him. The DPO said the killer informed the police that Douglas was an armed robber, who came to rob him in his house.

‘It’s cock and bull story’

Mrs. Maria Ojugbo

However, family of the deceased described the claim by the police and their son’s killer as a cock and bull story. Mother of the slain boy, Mrs. Maria Ogar Ojugbo, a director at the Fishery Unit, Ministry of Agriculture, Calabar, told Niger Delta Voice that her son went to collect money for a mini-notebook he sold to the man’s daughter, Mercy, when the assailant killed him.

Father of the deceased, Mr. Ogar Ojugbo, in a petition to the Inspector General of Police, said his son was not a robber and that the former NNPC staff killed him in cold blood because he was having an amorous relationship with his daughter. He asserted: “My son is 22 years old. Sometime this year, he sold his used mini-laptop to the daughter of the suspect, who leaves with him at his River Basin Authority home. The daughter made a part payment of the agreed sum leaving a balance.

“My son had been visiting the home of the suspect to collect or recover the balance of his money. The suspect, not pleased with the boy’s presence, inquired or demanded to know what he was doing in his house. “My son tried to explain to him his transaction with his daughter. Without any effort to verify the boy’s story, he asked him to leave his house and warned him never to visit his house again.

“My son was about leaving when his daughter asked my son to come on March 10 and collect the balance of his money. On the said day, my son went to the house hoping to see his daughter as they agreed, but unfortunately he saw the suspect.

Deadly confrontation

“The suspect, on sighting my son, ran into his room and fetched his gun. Douglas, on sighting him with a gun, took to his heels to save his life. “However, having made up his mind to kill my son, he pursued him until he caught up with him at the gate of Basin Authority, a distance of a kilometre from his house. “He shot my son first on the leg as a result of which Douglas fell down and to accomplish his goal, he shot him the second time on the arm to make sure that my son is dead.

“Furthermore, the suspect having accomplished his goal bundled the body of the late Douglas into a police van and took same to the Divisional Police Officer of Federal Housing Police station. “He conspired with the police to get rid of the body of Douglas in order to conceal his death.”

DPO’s story

When Niger Delta Voice visited the Federal Housing Police Station, the DPO, Mr. Mike Ezeweren opened up: “I got a call from one of my patrol officers, who said an armed robbery suspect was being brought in. “I called the control unit informing them that a suspect was apprehended at the Basin Authority area. When the patrol team came, I saw somebody at the back of the pick-up van and they brought him down.

“Under such circumstance, when a suspected armed robber is killed, we heave a sigh of relief because we refer to the deceased as minus one. They brought along with him some iron bender and a locally-made pistol and told me an angry mob seized him. The suspect was there with the mob. “He said he was in his compound, a twin flat, when he heard dog barking from the other end and that when he sought to find out why the dog was barking, he saw someone rushing out from the sitting room of the other flat.

“He said the suspect (Douglas) threatened him with the machete he was holding, but he retreated to his flat and brought out his double-barrelled gun with which he shot the suspect. “He said after the shooting, the suspect still managed to scale through the fence in a bid to escape but when people around heard the shout of thief, they responded and pursued him, brought him down and continued battering him before they even called the police.

Unknown victim!

“At that point, I sought to know the boy’s identity but nobody knew him in which case it was an unidentified corpse. I then told my men to take the statement from the suspect, who acted on self-defense, after which I contacted the health authorities to come and convey the corpse out of our premises. “The corpse was unidentified and besides I cannot raise N35,000 to deposit in the mortuary for an unidentified corpse. Under what sub-head will I even tag that money or do they expect me to use my salary? “It was that reason that made me to call the health authorities to go and dispose of it in their own way.”

Police know nothing about boyfriend/girlfriend affair

The DPO also said: “I do not know anything about this issue of girlfriend and boyfriend. The man said the boy came to rob in one of his flats with iron bar and threatened him with it. “Therefore, it was a case of robbery; it was even the mob that first said the man shot the boy and the man later confirmed that he actually shot the boy. “If there is anything in the matter, they should not face the police, they should face the man that shot him and the man is not on the run.”

On the hasty burial of Douglas, the DPO said: “Where do you expect me to keep the corpse when I do not have the financial backup to send the body to mortuary? We have health authority that we call upon at any time to dispose unidentified corpse. “Where they would have faulted me is if someone had come to identify the corpse and I still went ahead to the health authorities to bury the corpse. I did not follow the health authorities to where they took the corpse.

“We normally call them to come and dispose corpses, especially unidentified ones. At every point in this whole encounter, I communicated with the Commissioner of Police and also sent signals.”

Suspect warned deceased—Neighbour

A neighbour of the suspect told Niger Delta Voice that the suspect’s daughter, Mercy, and Douglas were friends and the suspect had warned Douglas a number of times to stop coming to his house before the tragedy. The neigbour said: “The man had warned the boy not to come near the daughter again, but the two of them could not keep away from each other and we hear that it was because of the relationship between the boy and the girl that the man decided to take that horrible action.

“On that fateful afternoon, we saw the man running after the boy, who was panting and running but the man caught up with him around the Basin Authority gate and shot him with a gun. “After shooting him, he called the police that he had shot an armed robber. All of us were running for our dear lives because the man is dangerous and everyone around knows him for that.”

Mother’s agony

Mrs. Ojugbo, however, bemoaned that the suspect was bragging in a cozy room at the police clinic, where police kept him, that nothing would happen to him.

Politics / Sambo Dasuki Protests Planned Secret Trial By FG by Okimski(m): 4:03pm On Oct 26, 2015
Abuja – Following the filing of fresh charges of illegal
possession of foreign and local currencies said to have
found in the houses of former National security Adviser,
Colonel Sambo Dasuki (rtd), the ex-NSA has protested
the plan by the Federal Government to arraign him in a
secret trial.
At the resumed hearing of the earlier charge of
possession of illegal firearms filed against Dasuki
Monday, Justice Ademola Adeniyi of the Federal High
Court Six, sitting in Abuja expressed surprise at the
decision of prosecution counsel to bring additional
charges against immediate past National Security
Adviser (NSA) on a day set aside for definite hearing on
the one count charge preferred against him.
Recall that on September 1 this year, prosecution
counsel, Mohammed Diri, had told the court that Dasuki
was charged with the unlawful possession of firearms
without a licence which Dasuki pleaded not guilty.
Justice Ademola then granted Mr. Dasuki bail on self-
recognition but ordered that his passport and other travel
documents be deposited with the Deputy Court Registrar
while the case was adjourned to October 26 and 27 for
the hearing.
When the court sat today (October 26, 2015) however,
M.S. Labaran, appearing for the prosecution announced
instead that the one count charge was now being
expanded to include additional charges bothering illegal
possession of various amounts of local and foreign
currency in his Abuja residence and family house in
Sokoto contrary to Money Laundering Prohibition Act
2011.
He also requested that the trial be conducted in secrecy
by providing special cover for witnesses from using
public routes; use of private witness room; use of facial
masks; and also that only accredited members of the
press be allowed to cover the trial.

Politics / Lagos Donates N50m Each To Adamawa, Borno, Yobe by Okimski(m): 7:39pm On Oct 21, 2015
Lagos State Government on Wednesday made a donation
of N50million each to Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States,
worst hit by the nefarious activities of the Boko Haram
sect, just as Governor Akinwunmi Ambode condemned
the insurgency in the North East.
Ambode, who made the donation at the Presidential Villa,
Abuja, commiserated with the State Governments as
well as the families of those who either lost their loved
ones or have been displaced from their homes.
He said they were not alone in their current plight as the
prayer of every Nigerian is for the insurgency to end so
as to enable them return to their normal lives.
We share in the pain and discomfort of our brothers and
sisters. The situation is unacceptable, pathetic and
desirous of our assistance. As a flagship state, Lagos
must show leadership and compassion notwithstanding
the harsh times in the country”, he said.
Governor Ambode also commended the Federal
Government for its ongoing efforts geared towards
bringing the insurgency to an end, expressing optimism
that the promise of the security chiefs to rout the sect
from the North East before the end of the year is
achievable.
Responding on behalf of the states, Governor of Borno
State, Alhaji Kashim Shettima thanked Governor Ambode
for the gesture and promised to channel the money to
people of the state who are in dire need of it.

Politics / Arik’s Planes Collide At Lagos Airport, Grounded by Okimski(m): 10:44pm On Oct 20, 2015
LAGOS—Two planes belonging to Arik Air, yesterday,
brushed each other while manoeuvring out of the apron
at the General Aviation Terminal, GAT, of Murtala
Muhammed Airport, Lagos.
The two planes had their wing tips damaged and have
been grounded to allow further investigation into the
incident.
Reacting to the incidence, spokesman of the airline, Mr.
Adebanji Ola, said in a statement: “Two of our aircraft,
Boeing 737-800NG were this afternoon (yesterday)
involved in a wing-tip brush at the General Aviation
Terminal, GAT, of Murtala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja,
Lagos.
“One of the aircraft, 5N-MJP, was marshalled out of the
ramp for a scheduled flight, when its wing brushed that
of another aircraft, 5N-MJQ, parked on the ramp.
“There were no incidences as the safety of passengers
was not jeopardized. We have grounded the two aircraft
and are looking into the incident.”
A similar incidence happened recently at the Murtala
Muhammed Airport Terminal 2, MMA2, in Lagos, when
there was a ground collision of two aircraft belonging to
FirstNation Airways.
Another similar incident also occurred at the airport on
July 6, following the collision of two aircraft belonging to
Emirates and Hak Air.
The incident, which happened at about mid-day, involved
two Airbus 330 conveying no fewer than 250 passengers.
The two aircraft had their bodies partially damaged.
One of the aircraft was taxing from the runway to MMA2
to disengage passengers, while the other aircraft was
preparing to take off to Port Harcourt Airport from the
same terminal.
It was alleged that the pilot may have been misdirected
to the wrong part of the apron.

Politics / Breaking: Appeal Court Adjourns Judgement On Saraki’s Case Indefinitely by Okimski(m): 3:26pm On Oct 19, 2015
The appeal by Senate President, Bukola Saraki against
the jurisdiction of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), to
try him over alleged false declaration of assets, was on
Monday, adjourned indefinitely by the Appeal Court,
sitting in Abuja.
Recall that Saraki is challenging the legal propriety of the
13-count criminal charge the Federal Government
preferred against him before the Code of Conduct
Tribunal, CCT.
He had also gone before the appellate court to query the
constitutionality of the warrant of arrest earlier issued

Besides, the embattled Senate President, through his
team of lawyers led by a former President of the Nigerian

higher court to ascertain whether the Justice Umar-led
panel subscribed to the appropriate legal procedure
when it ordered him to mount the dock and enter his plea

trial.

Politics / Female Suicide Bombers Kill 11- Police by Okimski(m): 10:58pm On Oct 18, 2015
Two female suicide bombers killed at least 11 people in
northeast Nigeria after hiding among residents fleeing a
suspected Boko Haram attack on a remote village, police
and a local official said on Sunday.
The attack happened in Dar village, in the north of
Adamawa state, on Saturday evening, the former head of
the Madagali local government council, Maina Ularamu,
said.
Boko Haram has repeatedly attacked the area, which is
near the border with Borno state to the north and the
Islamists’ Sambisa Forest stronghold, prompting calls for
better security.
“Residents fled to the bush. After a while, two women
who disguised as fleeing locals blew themselves up…
while the gunmen shot at survivors,” he told reporters.
Ularamu said “so far 12 corpses have been found” but
the Adamawa state police spokesman, Othman
Abubakar, confirmed 11 dead.
On October 1, seven people were killed in the village of
Kirchinga, near Madagali, while four people were killed
on September 30 in two other villages close by, both in
similar raids.
On September 11, seven people were killed when a bomb
went off at a camp for people displaced by the conflict
outside the state capital, Yola — the first time Boko
Haram has attacked refugees.
Thirty-one people were killed when two male suicide
bombers detonated their explosives at a market in Yola
on June 4.
Suicide bombings are fast becoming Boko Haram’s
preferred method of inflicting mass civilian casualties,
accounting for seven of the eight recorded Boko Haram
attacks this month in Nigeria.
Increasingly, the group is using two or more bombers,
detonating the second or third explosives after people
rush to help those caught up in the first blast.
Similar tactics have been seen in Boko Haram attacks in
Chad, Cameroon and Niger.
This month alone 101 people have been killed in Nigeria,
according to an AFP tally, while nearly 1,370 have died
since President Muhammadu Buhari came to power on
May 29.
On Sunday, soldiers shot dead a suspected suicide
bomber outside the main military base in the Borno state
capital, Maiduguri, detonating explosives concealed in
her handbag, a civilian vigilante and a military source
told AFP.
At least 34 people were killed in a wave of attacks on
Thursday night and Friday morning on the outskirts of
Maiduguri, while last month 117 died in explosions in the
Ajilari Cross area of the Borno state capital.
The military source, who requested anonymity as he is
not authorised to talk to the media, said the use of
human bombs was a sign of the group’s desperation and
frustration at a fight-back by troops.
“They are looking for every opportunity to hit back,
which is why they have resorted to soft-target attacks on
mosques and markets and such attacks on a military
base is intended to show the terrorists are still strong,”
the officer added.

Politics / 12,700 Dump APC For PDP In Kogi by Okimski(m): 10:38pm On Oct 18, 2015
LOKOJA—The campaign train of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, hit Igalamela/Odolu and Ofu Local Government areas, weekend, with the governor and the candidate of the party in the November 21 governorship poll, Idris Wada, assuring the people of continued delivery of democracy dividends.

At Ofu Local Government Area, the home base of the candidate of the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, Prince Abubakar Audu, 12,700 APC members officially defected to PDP from All Progressives Congress, APC.

One of the defectors, Simeon Adejoh, told Vanguard that their decision was hinged on the transformation agenda of Governor Wada.

Speaking on behalf of the people of the local government, the member representing the constituency in the state House of Assembly, Elder Friday Makama, assured the governor that PDP would win over 80 percent of the votes in the area.

He said: “I will continue to say it that APC cannot penetrate Igalamela/Odolu. All our political leaders here are PDP and our people have asked me to tell his Excellency that on November 21, they shall show their appreciation for all the governor has been doing in the constituency.”

Speaking at the rally, the governor assured the people that he will do more for them if elected on November 21.

He enumerated the projects he had executed in the two local government areas to include roads, healthcare facilities among others.

Former governor of the state, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, said the leaders of Kogi East had made it clear that Wada deserved another term, enjoining the people of the area to turn out en masse and vote for the PDP candidate.

Politics / I Deserve Ministerial Nomination, Says Lai Mohammed by Okimski(m): 6:25am On Oct 10, 2015

ILORIN – The ministerial nominee from Kwara state and the National Publicity Secretary of APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed insisted that he deserved the ministerial nomination from Kwara state which nobody,or group of persons could deny him.
Lai Mohammed in his reaction, to journalists in Ilorin, to counter protest against his ministerial nomination insisted that himself and his family registered in Oro, his hometown, adding that he contributed in no small means to the development of the party in his local government and the success of the member of house of representatives from that area and challenged the protesters‎ to cross check these facts.

The ministerial nominee who admitted that he was not in Kwara state during the elections also said that his national assignment to the party during the period was more important than coming to cast a single vote in kwara state.

He further said that since nobody could deny him of being a citizen of Kwara state, he reserved the right to stay in Lagos or any part of Nigeria and so he deserved the ministerial nomination.

The APC spokesman also explained that the emergence of his son as a member of Lagos state house of assembly was his own political reward for his service to the people of the area which they willingly gave him,and so had nothing to do with his own nomination as a minister.

Katsina – Governors elected under the All Progressives

APC manifesto.
Also absent was the Senate President, Speaker, House of
Representatives, Speakers of APC state assemblies and key
officers of the party.
The Chairman, Local Organising Committee, Alhaji

postponed due to poor attendance.
According to him, most of the expected dignitaries have
travelled to Saudi Arabia for the Hajj.

said although the state was fully prepared to host the event,
‘’the postponement was necessary in view of low turnout of
participants’’.
The Director General of Progressive Governors Forum,

the inaugural parley later.
Lukman said that the parley would assist APC governors to
adhere to the party’s vision and mission and translate it into

Politics / Why 5 Govs Walked Out On Jonathan At Convention — Tukur by Okimski(m): 10:05am On Sep 14, 2015
Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Dr. Bamanga
Tukur, has for the first time, given the reason why five of the
party’s governors walked out on him and President
Goodluck Jonathan at the special national convention of the
party in August, 2013.
Tukur, in an interveiw, rebuffed claims that he stopped
Governor Murtala Nyako from the convention ground.
Rather, he claimed that Nyako chose to stay away after he
was told that he could not come into the convention with his
factional chairman of the party. According to him the five
other governors decided to walk out in solidarity with Nyako
because most of the governors themselves did not believe
in the principle of internal democracy which he championed
as national chairman. He accused the governors of seeking
to push erstwhile national chairman of the party’s Board of
Trustees, BoT, Chief Tony Anenih, to undermine him as
national chairman of the party.
Tukur, in the interview, also affirmed that the defeat of Dr.
Jonathan in the March 28 presidential election was a result
of sabotage worked out by some persons around the former
president.
Tukur, who was compelled to resign as national chairman of
the party in January 2014, also defended his stewardship of
the party and dismissed assertions that the powerful
politicians he brought in as aides helped to fracture his
relationship with other members of the National Working
Committee, NWC.
In a stout defence of his role as national chairman, Tukur
took full responsibility for the action of his aides and said
that he was not at any time undermined by the aides he
appointed.
