The West African Examinations Council, WAEC has released the May/June 2015 WASSCE results, withholding the results of students in 13 states that are owing the Council. The Head of Nigerian Office, Mr Charles Eguridu who disclosed this at its Yaba Office said:”Out of 1,593,442 candidates who sat for the examinations, only 616,370 candidates, representing 38.68% obtained credits in five subjects and above including English Language and Mathematics.” Justifying the slight improvement in the results from previous years, Eguridu said that in 2013, a total candidates who obtained five credits in English and Mathematics were 639,760 representing 38.30 per cent. He said, in 2014, 529,425 representing 31.28 per cent obtained five credits in English and Mathemstics. Meanwhile, Eguridu said that 6 states among the 19 states that are owing the Council have paid their debt, left with 13 states. The HNO who refused to disclosed the names of indebted states explained that he would not want politicians to hijacked the situation against their opponents. He, however noted that if any of the states that are owing can get an advanced payment guarantee from any reputable banks, students results in such states will be released. His words: ” I alerted the nation on the challenges which the Council was facing in Nigeria as a result of this indebtedness, and its adverse effects on our operations. I had stated then that the Council may be constrained from releasing the results of government-sponsored candidates of the affected states. “After my pronouncement, a few of the debtor states responded by paying their debts fully or partially; while a few others made promises, indicating their willingness to pay as soon as they are able to do so. Others have not made any efforts in addressing the matter. “After reviewing the situation, the Council has decided that the results of government-sponsored candidates of indebted states would be released if such states endeavour to produce bank guarantees, so that the Council will be assured that the fees will be paid. This decision is in appreciation of the general prevailing economic challenges in the country, and in order not to jeopardize the educational careers of the candidates of the indebted states.” He said that the results of 118,101 candidates, representing 7.41% are being withheld in connection with various cases of examination malpractice. According to him, the cases of such students are being investigated and reports of the investigations will be presented to the Nigerian Examinations Committee (NEC) of the Council in due course for consideration. Also, he noted that a total number of 109 blind candidates registered for and sat the examination. From this figure, 20 candidates, representing 18.34% obtained credit in 5 subjects, including English Language and Mathematics. In the brake down of results, Eguridu said: “A total of 1,605,248 candidates registered for the May/June 2015 WASSCE, out of which 1,593,442 candidates, consisting of 864,096 male and 729,346 female candidates sat the examination. “Out of the total number of candidates who sat the examination, 1,498,069 candidates, representing 94.01% have their results fully released, while 95,373 candidates, representing 5.99% have a few of their subjects still being processed due to some errors mainly traceable to the candidates and schools in the course of registration or writing the examination. ” Such errors are being corrected by the Council to enable the affected candidates get their results fully processed and released subsequently. “Of the total number of candidates that sat the examination, 758,849 candidates, representing 47.62% obtained six (6) credits and above; 949,862 candidates, representing 59.61% obtained five (5) credits and above, while 1,114,988 candidates, representing 69.97 % obtained credit and above in four (4) subjects. In addition, 1,295,915 candidates, representing 78.81% obtained credit and above in three (3) subjects, while 1,376,743 candidates, representing 86.40% obtained credit and above in two (2) subjects. However, a total of 616,370 candidates, representing 38.68%, obtained credit in five (5) subjects and above, including English Language and Mathematics. “Candidates who sat the May/June 2015 WASSCE will be able to check the details of their performance on the Council’s results website: www.waecdirect.org within the next 24 hours,” he said. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/08/breaking-news-waec-releases-results-withheld-13-indebted-states/ |

HIV can be flushed out of its hiding places in the body using a cancer drug, researchers show. The cornerstone of treatment, anti-retroviral therapy, kills the virus in the bloodstream but leaves "HIV reservoirs" untouched. The study, published in PLoS Pathogens, showed the drug was "highly potent" at reactivating hidden HIV. Experts said the findings were interesting, but it was important to know if the drug was safe in patients. The power of the HIV reservoir was shown with the case of the Mississippi baby. She was given antiretroviral drugs at birth. Despite appearing to be free of HIV for nearly two years after stopping treatment, she was found to be harbouring the virus. 'Kick and kill' A strategy known as "kick and kill" is thought to be key to curing HIV - the kick would wake up the dormant HIV allowing the drugs to kill it. The team at the UC Davis School of Medicine investigated PEP005 - one of the ingredients in a treatment to prevent cancer in sun-damaged skin. They tested the drug in cells grown in the laboratory and in parts of the immune system taken from 13 people with HIV. The report said "PEP005 is highly potent in reactivating latent HIV" and that the chemical represents "a new group of lead compounds for combating HIV". One of the researchers, Dr Satya Dandekar, said: "We are excited to have identified an outstanding candidate for HIV reactivation and eradication that is already approved and is being used in patients. "This molecule has great potential to advance into translational and clinical studies." However, the drug has still not been tested in people who are HIV-positive. Prof Sharon Lewin, from the University of Melbourne, said the results were "interesting" and marked an "important advance in finding new compounds that can activate latent HIV". She told the BBC: "This study adds another family of drugs to test to potentially eliminate long-lived forms of HIV although much more work needs to be done to see if this works in patients. "Although PEP005 is part of an FDA approved drug, it will first take some time to work out if it is safe to use in the setting of HIV." http://www.bbc.com/news/health-33720325

This is not good news for African viewers as the biggest
reality TV show in Africa, Big Brother Africa (BBA) may not
take place this year as expected.
This is due to lack of sponsorship. The organizers of the
show, Africa Magic and Endemol were unable to get
sponsorship for this year’s edition of the show.
The Manager of Multichoice Ghana, Anne Sackey confirmed
to peganews that they at Multichoice Ghana have received
notice from MNET that this year’s edition of Big Brother
Africa will not hold.
She explained that MNET did not give them any reasons as
to why they will not be doing the Big Brother this year, but
then, she personally thinks it’s due to sponsorship
constraints. www.vanguardngr.com/2015/07/breaking-news-big-brother-africa-2015-cancelled/ |

One thing that is standing out now is that this government is
bent on fighting corruption?
I have no
objection to
that. I only say
that it should
not contribute
to our problem.
I added that
under the
recognition of
the confab, all
these things
have been
worked out. All
the activities of
the government
are under the
constitution.
Everybody
believes that the present Nigerian constitution makes the
president too powerful than anywhere in the world.
Obasanjo had the problem of changing this constitution.
What people are complaining about right now was there
before Obasanjo and he said he was going to do it.
He set up a fake confab group while he nominated Goodluck
all for himself and he wanted to run for the third time. And
when that failed, he left. We have not gone to the basics of
our problem. We are just scratching them. As long as we
refuse to get a balanced federation where everybody
believes that there will be fairness, we will continue having
this problem.
The President and the Vice President with some other
officials and state governors have slashed their salaries by
50%, do you see that as a solution to the corruption
problem?
The salary is nothing. Once anybody gets there, they want
to eat as much as they can. It is the allowances of the
government officials that is important. It is not salaries. It is
the allowances that is the issue and if they are serious, they
should cut down their allowances. There is too much money
in the centre.
The centre is too powerful. We have to reduce the
allocations from the centre to the states. This will reduce
the avenue of corruption but they do not want to go to the
roots. We have gone to the roots of these things and we
have discussed them. All these cosmetic approaches to
solving problems will not achieve anything.
The South-West voted profusely for this new government
and their leader, Jagaban was a principal figure in the ruling
party. But since the assumption of office, things have been
falling apart. Everything he wants has been jettisoned. What
do you have to say about that?
When people are coming together ,they are doing so for
their personal purposes. When they wanted to start this
APC, we knew the foundation was not right. We complained
about their compatibility. We said they were not compatible.
They did not agree with that and continued. On the surface,
they appeared compatible but the truth remains they were
strange bed fellows.
Jagaban knows very well the position of the west but he
thought that he would be clever enough to use the north to
achieve what he wanted. There was no agreement on how
the country should be run. He should have settled all these
problems of equity and fairness with them before doing
business together.
But they came in with vested interests just to come into
power. They did not agree on how to share power and all
that. It was not the right thing to do. They are now trying to
share power after getting into power. They never agreed on
how to share it before getting into power, it is a basic flop in
their arrangement. That was the mistake he(Bola Tinubu
referred as Jagaban) made.
Don’t you think this can still be corrected?
I don’t know if they can. It is left to them. I think they can
correct all that made them incompatible. One of the
corrections is going for the recommendations of the confab.
That is the basic thing that the country needs and my
campaign then was that we needed a change of the
constitution. When you change the constitution, most
problems will be solved. Go and read the recommendations
of the confab. When we implement them, a lot will change.
You know this winner-take-all syndrome of Nigerian
politicians is really affecting the country?
That comes because we have not gotten to the basic
issues. If you agree on the constitutional change, winner
cannot take all. Under the recommendations of the confab,
winner cannot take all. Everybody knows what is right,
where to get it and how to get it under a stipulated rule. A
constitution that allows a governor to acquire massive
wealth when leaving the office is not fair.
They are now getting wardrobe allowance. Were they
appearing naked before getting into office? Those of us who
have been in this fight for so long know what we are
fighting for. They should go to the basics and under the
recommendations of the confab, there is equality in the
creation of states in all the regions. And we have transferred
local government to the state government and thereby, the
question of distribution of revenue is equitable.
The problem is that each government changes things. We
know about the confabs we have had in the past regimes,
we also know about Oputa panel.
You are going back to what we all know. Whether Oputa
panel or anything, during the Abacha regime, I agitated for
restructuring of the country and I gave the picture of the
restructuring that we are talking of. It was the military that
structured Nigeria after the coup of 1966. The constitution
that we are using now is a military constitution. It is not the
constitution that our forefathers got to us.
When the coup happened in 1966, the military changed
everything and that is why after the Abacha regime, because
we did not want violence, we said let us go to a round table
and change all these. That was why we called for a
constitution conference to restructure the country. If we do
not know where we are going, we know where we are
coming from.
If we had addressed all these things from the root, we would
not have all the problems that we are having now. The
problem we are having now is because of non compliance
to the federal principle of the country. I want to ask this
question, since that confab, have you seen anybody criticise
the recommendations of the confab? If we all agree on that,
why don’t we do it for the peace of this country?
If you are asked to advice President Buhari, what advice
would you give him?
I will first ask him to go and implement the
recommendations of the confab. You will be shocked that in
the process of implementing the recommendation of the
confab, the solution to the corruption problem will come up.
What some of us are saying which he is trying to justify by
his action is that a lot of the things in the unjust constitution
favours the people of the north and that is why it will not be
easy for a northerner to do that. Let him prove us wrong by
doing that.
The beneficiary of the in-balance of this constitution are the
northerners. We want equitable distribution. We don’t want
any region to be more favoured than the other. That is why
we are saying he should make everybody equal for peace to
reign. He should go back and implement the
recommendations. Not doing that is not compatible with his
anti corruption stuff.
That means you think he is running a Northern agenda
All that you are talking about goes to the implementation of
the constitution. If you want to make everybody equal, go to
the recommendation and implement it, and nobody will
complain. The bulk of the recommendation is for the
interest of the country and until it is done, there will be no
peace. Let him do what the people want.
It is very strange that almost 500 distinguished Nigerians
made those recommendations from all walks of life and they
passed 600 resolutions unanimously. You cannot get the
composition of the conference as distinguished as the one
Jonathan demonstrated. I challenge anybody to do that. So,
you implement it and see what will happen. There will be
peace and you will take the glory as somebody who brought
peace to the country. |
When Tambuwal emerged as speaker then ACN, now APC said it was democracy. It is still democracy now. They should swallow their pride and move on. A leader of the Yoruba group, Afenifere and a top member of the defunct Action Group, led by the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, in the first republic, Chief Ayo Adebanjo in this encounter takes on the APC government, where they got it wrong and the mistake Tinubu made. He also talks about why Buhari is not the right person to amend the constitution and the need to implement the recommendations of the constitutional conference of the Jonathan administration. Excerpts: What’s your take on the way things are going in this new government? I have been very careful about commenting because it’s just about less than two months since they took over and it’s too early to judge them. If they were like 100 days in office or even one year, you can now begin to take stock but just over 30 days is not enough. Some people are late starters who start slow and sluggish but eventually pick up and maybe, Buhari is one of them. If I judge him by his performance the first time time, I can say he has potentials of a good performer but I think he should be given more time. They have four years to perform. Let us not condemn what we don’t even know. After four years, we can judge them but right now, no. But people have started calling him Baba go slow I told you I don’t want to start blaming anybody, I still want to give them the long road to perform. I won’t condemn virtually. Let’s give them time and see how it goes. Probably after a year or two, we can now start saying something. It is still early. But those who pushed the change government spoke about immediate change on coming to board? Yes, that was the expectation but that does not mean that he cannot perform. Many of you thought this man will perform wonders with the way he was pushing and now, you are expecting the wonders overnight. I won’t talk now because I was not expecting anything. I didn’t believe he would work wonders and so, I’m not disappointed. I didn’t support him and I want to give them time to disappoint me, to prove me wrong. So it is too early to say that they are not performing. Many are dismayed because of how things started; a house divided against itself cannot stand and many are even beginning to allege that the party is going to scatter and some groups may pull out if party problems continue the way they are now? There are so many who are good among them. Those of you who are expecting signs and wonders should give them time to perform, say a year or more. And after that, you can now lay your complaints. The Yoruba has a saying that if something did not happen in the morning, it will happen in the night. There is also another Yoruba saying that when a small boy is cutting a tree in the forest, if he does not take time, he will not know where he is. When people were campaigning of age and talking about the past record of this man put together, some of you said no, that was in the past. They shouldn’t complain now. We want them to perform now and to prove us wrong. It is not for us who don’t want him to judge him, it is left for those of you who put him there to see things as they are. But he said we should put him on his toes to do the right thing That is not my viewpoint. I’m saying you should give him time to perform, that it is too early to judge him. There are some people who are slow starters and if you do not give them time, they will start laying blames. They should not embarrass him or divide his attention by cajoling him. What do you have to say about what is happening in the national assembly? It is very disgraceful that they are fighting, that is one. The National Assembly should learn how to perform as an independent body, there should be no interference. What is happening there, happened before and heavens did not fall. We know how Tambuwal became the Speaker of the House. The leaders of ACN at that time said it was democracy. The then speaker, Tambuwal and other PDP members swallowed their pride and carried on for four years. So, they should swallow their own pride and carry on. Why are they quarreling? They said it was democracy when Tambuwal emerged. It is still democracy now. They should swallow their pride like PDP did and move on. You should be judging your candidates. They should compare what they are doing now and what they did in the past. I would like to give all of them time to perform. Buhari as an individual is a performer. He has a good character. So, some of us are saying that maybe the people around him are the problem. It happens in every government when people who breed confusion surround the persons holding the mandate. So we should not be dwelling on the past records, we have passed the campaign period, we are now in the period of performance. For me, I want to give him time. There seems to be this issue between Buhari as a person and the APC; the party will stand on one thing and he will stand on the other side. For instance, during the election of the key national assembly leaders, when it happened the way it did, he said okay, it is the rule of law. But the party seems not be happy with his position. The ball is in your court, you are the judge. All these things are before you journalists, put them together and bring them to the public. You are the people who mirror what is happening, mirror properly and send to the public. That is the only way to help the country. Many think he’s operating a Northern agenda based on the appointments he made so far The new President will put his own people. He can choose from any part of the country of his choice. He has the right to do that, but there should be a balance. I still say that you are the judge. You are one of the stakeholders. If there is anything you are not finding funny, say it. There are so many things that are involved. Where people are allowed to govern not with their ideology or principle, it can never work. People that gathered in APC are people of different sheds of political opinions with one agenda; to remove the government of the day for them to get there. But there was no agreement on power sharing when they get there and that is the problem. That is why I said, let us wait and see, it is too early to judge. This was our own analysis before the election, when we saw the people gather to remove the Jonathan government. I am not saying that the Jonathan government was a perfect government. Yes, it has all sorts of things that we should disagree with. There was corruption but now it seems Jonathan was the special one. There was always corruption. I think the only thing this regime needs to do is to implement the recommendations of the confab. Do you think those recommendations will be implemented? It should be and that was why I said I would not vote for Buhari. That is why I said that in-spite of Jonathan indifference, he should be voted for because that will help to balance the in-balance in the country. But Nigerians said no, I cannot force them to do that. Those recommendations go into the problems of the country. If you read very carefully the stand of Afenifere in this matter, you will know where we are going. All the problems we are talking about in the country, the lies in the reshuffling of the country, they are all there. Now, we are talking about the atonement of one region or the other. All these things have been dealt with in the recommendations of the confab. This are some things that are supposed to be constitutionalized. The issue of corruption that they are talking about is because there is too much money in the centre which is still occurring now. We have removed all that. What I was complaining of is what is happening now. You have conducted the election under the old constitution. You now say that you want to play the guide of the states, how do you do it? If you keep using the revenue formula of the old constitution, the imbalance will continue. And that means more money will be going to the North than to the South because they have more local government areas there and you are going to divide the thing on the basis of that. Is that justice? And once we all refer to the constitution which we have agreed is unfair, the problems will continue. So, since you are getting the result of what you refused to do, don’t complain. |
Una know say Messi na simple person, yet you people are complaining |
Gabon's political opposition have accused Lionel Messi of
showing a "lack of respect for standards and principles"
after the Barcelona star met the African nation's president
wearing denim shorts and a T-shirt.
Messi, 28, jetted into Gabon earlier this week on the first leg
of a five-day visit to Africa, and met President Ali Bongo
Ondimba in relaxed clothing.
A statement from the Union du Peuple Gabonais (UPG)
party read: "The messiah of football arrived in Gabon like he
were going to a zoo: dirty, unshaven and his hands in his
pockets, looking for peanuts to throw to them!
"When you're called Lionel Messi and you're a multi-
billionaire, you don't have the right to present yourself to
officials of a republic, even a banana one, with your hands
in the pockets of a ripped, tattered pair of shorts.
"Gabon isn't a zoo. We don't know what the Argentine came
to Gabon for, but we at least have the right to denounce his
negligence and his lack of respect for standards and
principles. We are uneasy with Messi's attitude and his
attire. Only for these reasons, linked to respect for the host
country, do we condemn the footballer's indelicateness, to
say the least!"
President Bongo himself drove Messi through the streets of
the Gabonese capital, Libreville, in a jeep before the
Argentina international laid the first stone of the stadium at
Port-Gentil, which will stage Africa Nations Cup final
tournament matches in 2017.
France Football reported that Messi was paid €3.5 million
for the visit, which was reportedly organised by Samuel
Eto'o, a confidante of President Bongo.
However, that claim was denied by Messi, who -- according
to El Mundo Deportivo -- has asked France Football to
rectify the report, and state that he did not receive a single
cent for the visit. The Spanish paper said it had
independently verified that Messi was not paid.
It reported that Messi had made the visit also as a courtesy
to Alejandro Echevarria and Jaume Ferrer, both former
directors of Barcelona and now leading figures in the
Gabonese FA. http://m.espn.go.com/soccer/story?storyId=2531280&top&wjb=

Yes o, that is the spirit. No food for lazy man |
Former Finance minister Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has described Governor Adams Oshiomhole 's accusation that she spent $1 billion out of the Excess Crude Account to fund the re-election bid of former President Goodluck as stupid and unfounded. According to a statement released by the Media Adviser to the ex-minister, Paul C Nwabuikwu, on Monday, July 13, the Governor's claim is another round of false campaign against Okonjo-Iweala, which he has embarked on for months. "The statement is just another example of the numerical diarrhea that seems to have afflicted His Excellency in recent times in his effort to damage the reputation of the former Minister," the communique said. Read full statement below: "The allegation by Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State that former Minister of Finance Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala spent $1 billion out of the Excess Crude Account to fund the re- election bid of former President Jonathan is the kind of ludicrously false statement that has unfortunately become a trademark of the Governor in his public campaign of falsehood against Dr Okonjo-Iweala. The statement is just another example of the numerical diarrhea that seems to have afflicted His Excellency in recent times in his effort to damage the reputation of the former Minister. He has, within the last few months, asked Dr Okonjo-Iweala to explain all kinds of totally wild and unsubstantiated figures, ranging from $30 billion, $20 billion, $2.1 billion, N720 billion and now $1 billion. To say the obvious, the accusations are totally lacking in credibility. Governor Oshiomhole’s published comments also contain other falsehoods. For instance, he quoted Dr Okonjo-Iweala as saying that she and the Finance Commissioners of the 36 states approved the spending of $2.1 billion out of the Excess Crude Account, adding that the Commissioners had disowned the statement. This is also a complete distortion. Dr Okonjo-Iweala never said the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC) approved spending out of the ECA. Rather as the Commissioners themselves stated, the former Minister of State Finance informed them that former President Jonathan approved the expenditure to end the debilitating fuel queues across the country. As Nigerians know, the Finance Ministry under Okonjo-Iweala regularly published details of revenue allocations from the ECA in national media. So Oshiomhole’s tortured “calculations” based on his “four figure tables” are mere political numbers conjured to achieve a political purpose. Nigerians can see through the elaborate antics. Governor Oshiomhole’s latest statement, like earlier ones, labours to give the impression that the entire FAAC process which involves the Federal Government and the 36 states of the Federation is a personal monopoly of Dr Okonjo-Iweala. This is, of course not true. FAAC is a long standing national platform for allocating revenues chaired by the Minister of State Finance. The governor’s insistence on pushing this clearly fictional narrative underscores his desperation. It is instructive that Governor Oshiomhole is a key member of the committee set up by the National Economic Council to investigate the ECA spending. His continuing attacks against Dr Okonjo-Iweala seem to suggest that he has lost confidence in this platform which he deployed to make some of his initial false and baseless allegations. The Governor does not seem to appreciate that he is undermining the very credibility of the committee. Once again, we ask: why are Oshiomhole and his cohorts so ready to sacrifice truth, precedent and decency in this political witch hunt against Dr Okonjo-Iweala? We are confident that they will fail because truth will triumph." http://pulse.ng/politics/okonjo-iweala-oshiomhole-suffers-from-numerical-diarrhea-ex-minister-reacts-to-govs-accusations-id3969091.html?utm_campaign=art-okonjo-iweala-oshiomhole-suffers-from-numerical-diarrhea-ex-minister-reacts-to-govs-accusations-2015-07-13&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook

Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode has been discharged and acquitted of the money laundering charges by a Federal High Court in Lagos. Recalled that Fani-Kayode, whose trial began in 2008 before Justice Ramat Mohammed, was arraigned by the EFCC to have laundered about N100 million while he was the Minister of Culture and Tourism and subsequently, Aviation Minister. The allegedly laundered sum was, however, reduced to N2.1million on Nov. 17, 2014 after Ofili- Ajumogobia dismissed 38 out of the 40-count levelled against Fani-Kayode for want of proof. The EFCC prosecutor, Keyamo, while urging the court to uphold the remaining two counts and to accordingly convict Fani-Kayode, said the former minister had failed to exonerate himself of the allegations. Keyamo pointed out that the object of the charge was that Fani-Kayode transacted in cash sums above N500,000, which was the threshold stipulated by the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act. Keyamo had argued that Fani-Kayode had admitted making such transactions in his confessional statement of Dec. 22, 2008 made to the EFCC. He said: “In this statement, he admitted that he transacted in cash above N500,000. The Japanese people are distinctly themselves which is reflected in their government, commerce and daily lives, and unlike many Western countries, they are not swayed by outside influence and political correctness. As the influence of Islam is being spread across the globe through Muslim evangelism and immigration, Muslims remain persona non grata in Japan. While Japan strives to maintain civil relationships with Islamic countries for economic reasons, inside the country, Muslims are required to practice their religion quietly in their own homes and are prohibited from overtly endeavoring to convert anyone to Islam. Out of Japan’s nearly 127 million occupants, only 10,000 of them, less than one hundredth of a percent, are Muslims. Part of that has to do with their ban on Islamic evangelism but perhaps even more so on their ban of Muslim immigrants. While America and other countries are importing Muslims in droves, Japan discourages their entrance into their country, usually only allowing those in who are there for business purposes. That being said, most Japanese companies prefer to hire one their own people over an immigrant. The Japanese as a whole are uneasy around Muslims, assigning them all the reputation of radical, closed-minded and less intelligent people with a strange religion. There are very few mosques or Islamic institutions in Japan and only one imam in Tokyo. Critics of Japan’s policy toward Muslims claim that the Japanese are intolerant, xenophobic and maybe even racist, while others see it as a “developed sense of nationalism” and an attempt to preserve their unique culture (H/T The Jewish Press). There may be some truth to both sides. But Islam is an unusual religion whose followers are admonished to wage jihad, or holy war, in the name of Allah or at least support those who do. The politically correct response is that other religions, like Christianity, have also produced radicals with violent intent, but that’s judging a system by its misuse. A Christian following the Bible’s teaching will help and love others while a strict adherent to the Quran will “fight in the cause of Allah” and wage war on infadels. http://www.jewsnews.co.il/2015/06/14/japan-shut-down-radical-islam-entirely-and-heres-the-simple-way-they-did-it-2/

Following the heightened criticism against President Muhammadu Buhari’s secret declaration of assets as against his campaign promise to make public his assets, reports have come to light to reveal that Buhari who claimed to be unable to buy the March 28 Presidential form is set to declare an estimated N879 million in assets. Dr. Katchi Ononuju a Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chieftain who first spoke to the African Independent Television, AIT, correspondents and later to Post Nigeria authoritatively stated that Buhari had a lot to explain as the APC was making frantic efforts to give the President a soft landing on the matter. He stated that the APC was secretly sending copies of the the President’s asset declaration, to strong critics of his secret declaration. According to Ononuju; “An e-mail which emanated from the office of the President is set to declare almost a billion Naira in assets. “This is a major reason why the President has decided not to declare his assets because the APC is hiding under the pretense that Buhari is broke and could not pay for his presidential form.” He went ahead to state that the National Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed and the Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai called him via telephone pleading with him not to unravel the mystery behind the secret declaration of assets by President Buhari as against his earlier electoral promise. President Buhari who claimed to be “broke”, took a bank loan of N27 million to purchase the APC presidential nomination form to contest the 2015 general election. Buhari had lamented the high cost of the nomination form, but said that he was fired by his ambition to procure a bank loan, through the assistance of an unnamed bank Chairman. The ex-military dictator stated that it took the understanding of his bankers in Kaduna and Abuja to raise the money. “It’s a pity I couldn’t influence this amount to be put down as in the case of ladies and the disabled that intend to participate. I always looked left and right in our meetings but I could not read sympathy, so I kept my trap shut. “But I felt heavily sorry for myself because I don’t want to go and ask somebody to pay for my nomination forms, because I always try to pay myself, at least for the nomination. “N27 million is a big sum, thankfully I have a personal relationship with the manager of my bank in Kaduna and early this morning, I put an early call (and) I told him that very soon the forms are coming, so, whether I am on red, or green or even black please honour it, otherwise I may lose the nomination,” Buhari had stated. Before the last general election, Buhari tactically revealed his assets “I have at least one million Naira in my bank, having paid N5.5 million to pick my form from my party. ‘’I have around 150 cattle because I am never comfortable without cows. I have a house each in Kaduna, Kano, and Daura which I borrowed money to build. I never had a foreign account since I finished my courses in the USA, India and the UK. I never owned any property outside Nigeria, never.” A cross section of Nigerians who responded to the alleged N879 million Buhari asset declaration noted that the President might have been fooling Nigerians by having said that did not have the sum of N27 million to acquire the presidential nomination form. “If that is true that he has no money, how come he is set to declare almost 1 billion Naira in assets in less than seven months?” a political commentator queried before adding “the secret declaration of assets by Buhari shows that Buhari has a skeleton in his cupboard’’ Hajiya Aishatu Buhari, who had donated drugs worth N135m to the Internally Displaced Persons camps in Adamawa State, during the period her husband, Buhari, made it clear to the world that he had no money to purchase presidential nomination form. Following the harsh criticism which escorted the President and Vice’s decision to secretly declare their assets, the Presidency late last week, decided to make the declaration public, only after verification by the Code of Conduct Bureau, CCB, a process that can take up to 100 days after taking office. Major supporters of the APC however, have found it quite difficult to defend this move, as the notion of transparency appears to be evaporating from the President’s demeanor since he took office. As expected, a PDP sympathizer Post Nigeria contacted on the matter, said “150 cows should not be that difficult to verify, three modest houses as the President claims, should even be easier”. http://www.post-nigeria.com/exclusive-president-who-owns-150-cows-set-to-declare-n879-million-in-assets/

We’ve all heard palm readers try to tell us what the different lines on our hands actually mean, but they’re often rather off. For thousands of years, people have read palms to try to tell a person’s character and emotions. To be clear, the heart line begins near the middle of your hand at the edge of your palm and ends toward the pinky finger. Which heart line is yours? 1) If this is your heart line, you’re the ambitious one! You’re independent, intelligent, and have a lot of good qualities when it comes to judgement and making decisions. You may have a selfish, materialistic outlook on life though. Use your good qualities to better your community and yourself. 2) If this is your hear line, you’re more considerate, kind, and trustworthy with people. You tend to give away your heart a little too freely. It may take work, but it’s important to know when to be guarded. 3) If this is your heart line, you tend to be content and confident in your love life, whether you’re single or in a relationship. You’re happy every way. 4) This one was my heart line! You’re patient, caring, calm, warm-hearted and full of good intentions. You’re the charitable type. This one read me like a poem! Was this accurate? Let us know in the comments below! http://higherperspectives.com/heart-line/

Military authorities prosecuting the battle to dislodge the remnants of the Boko Haram terror group from Sambisa forest disclosed yesterday that the supplier of fuel and diesel to the terrorists for use in the camps has been arrested. The arrest according to sources followed the killing of several of the terrorists who at one point, tried to ambush Nigerian soldiers in the forest but met their waterloo as soldiers who knew the modus operandi of Boko Haram, had prepared for the ambush. Vanguard had noted in the footage of the air and ground bombardment of the camps of the terrorists, many of the terrorists in their hundreds were seen jumping into several pick up vans, trucks and motorcycles and fleeing at very top speed even inside the forest. The question that came to mind had been where and how the terrorist got fuel to energise these trucks, pick-up vans and motorcycles. The arrest of the supplier who also provides foodstuff for them is however expected to cripple the logistics support that has emboldened the terrorists. Meanwhile, Operational videos showing how Nigerians troops are battling and dislodging terrorists inside the notorious Forest have shown the dexterity of Nigerian Air Force pilots as masters of their trade. In the videos shown by the Defence headquarters, pilots are seen taunting the terrorists with hundreds of the latter running for their lives and fleeing into different directions. In footage, the video depict how vulnerable women and children were cautiously and deliberately guided to safety by the Nigerian pilots. An officer involved in the operation said: “Since the essence of the operation is not to kill everybody in sight, the Air Force pilots deploy their skills in herding both terrorists and their captives in different directions so that those conscripted and abducted were guided to safety zone while the armed terrorists met their waterloos.” Since they invaded the notorious forest, the Nigerian troops have rescued over 700 females and children. In the first daring and precise operation, the troops rescued about 300 women and girls while many terrorists camps including Tokumbere were destroyed. In another operation, that involved Special Forces, another set of 234 women and children were rescued through the Kawuri and Konduga end of Sambisa forest. Military sources disclosed that the sustained operations deep into the Sambisa forest is being spearheaded by the Air Force through what an officer called “tactical aerial bombardments and guided reconnaissance” with the main objective of decimating and clearing the terrorists from the forest which is their last bastion. Since this particular operation commenced, several field commanders and foot soldiers of the terrorist group have lost their lives with some armoured personnel carriers, vehicles mounted with Anti-Aircraft guns, and several trucks also destroyed by the military. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/05/supplier-of-fuel-foodstuff-to-boko-haram-terrorists-nabbed/

Nigeria is set to be the first African country with an economy larger than $1 trillion, according to the latest projections from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Africa’s most populous nation, which recently held peaceful elections, revamped its gross domestic product data in 2014 and pulled ahead of South Africa to become the continent’s largest economy with a GDP of $469 billion. Between now and 2030, experts predict annual growth rates as high as 7.92% resulting in a GDP of $1.05 trillion. “A lot of Nigeria’s growth will come from agriculture and services are huge in Nigeria,” says Charles Robertson, global chief economist at Renaissance Capital. He adds that he actually expects the country’s GDP to reach $1 trillion before 2030. “Banking, retail, telecoms and Nollywood has been an explosive growth story in past couple of years.” As a source of employment for 70% of Nigeria’s population in 2013, the country’s $56 billion agriculture sector currently accounts for 24% of GDP and the country’s minister of agriculture, Akinwumi Adesina, has said “the new millionaires of Nigeria will be in agriculture.” Relative view These are huge numbers by Nigerian and African standards — however, they look less impressive next to others from around the world. By 2030, the U.S. economy is expected to reach $24.8 trillion, China’s GDP will approach $22.2 trillion and Indian output will be at the $6.6 trillion mark. African view Closest behind Nigeria, when it comes to economic clout on the continent in 2030, is South Africa with a projected GDP of $810.6 billion. Given that power shortages have caused the country to cut its economic growth forecasts for 2015 by 0.5%, this will be a key area of the country’s infrastructure which number crunchers will be watching. In February, during his first full budget speech, finance minister Nhlanhla Nene identified the need to focus on the country’s power crisis, saying “electricity constraints hold back growth in manufacturing and mining, inhibit investment in housing and raise costs for businesses and households.” Egypt is due to follow South Africa, with the continent’s third largest GDP of $471.5 billion. The U.S Department of Agriculture foresees annual grow rates consistently surpassing 4.2% in the next 15 years and Renaissance Capital is bullish on the North Africa country. “Only 10% of Egyptians have bank accounts,” says Robertson, “so we can image banking will be a big story [In Egypt] in the coming years.” Problem with projections While these numbers suggest significant growth is on the cards, projections for African economies have been revised in the past. “Forecasting tends to be optimistic, especially in underdeveloped countries,” says Morten Jerven, author of ‘Poor Numbers: How We Are Misled by African Development Statistics and What to Do about It’ . “Models often over-predict GDP and under- predict inflation…U.S. Department of Agriculture is predicting a stable growth pattern for Nigeria, and that is curious given that we have not seen that pattern in the past.” source: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/05/us-projects-nigerias-economy-to-hit-1-trillion-mark/

In a THIS DAY exclusive, Ben Murray-Bruce said that when reality sets in Muhammad Buhari may begin to wish he didn't win the 2015 presidential elections. Now that Major General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) has been chosen by the Nigerian people, it is my duty as a patriotic Nigerian to help him succeed even though my candidate was President Goodluck Jonathan, a man to whom I will always be loyal and appreciative. General Buhari is about to mount the saddle and I for one am in a very good position to tell him some home truths because as a senator-elect, I have a very fulfilling job awaiting me and I do not need a job or favours from Buhari so I do not have to play nice. Looking at the personalities he has appointed to his transition council, I am wont to believe that General Buhari needs to expand his circle of friends and advisers. As a military strategist, the president-elect must be familiar with the principle that the people you use in subduing an opponent are not necessarily the same persons you will need in rebuilding the territories you took. I may be using military terms, but I am sure General Buhari is aware that politics is war by other means and therefore many of the rules of war and peace apply to politics. The General will be best served if he thinks of what is best for Nigeria rather than what is best for his party, the All Progressive Congress (APC), and its chieftains. He must remember that in Nigeria’s subjective politics, it was his person that the people voted for not his party and he should therefore serve the people the dish they are angling for. And what are the expectations of Nigerians from General Buhari? Definitely not business as usual. The president-elect ran on a promise of change and while that change was not really defined by its chanters, Nigerians defined it as a change in their situation. http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/it-doesn-t-matter-if-the-cat-is-white-or-black/208021/

ABUJA – Rivers State governor and Director-General of the All Progressives Congress Presidential campaign Organization, APCPCO, Mr. Chibuike Ameachi has said that the APC would make a difference in the political governance of Nigeria. He added that where the ruling People’s Democratic Party, PDP has failed, APC would succeed having learnt from the outside. This was even as the national publicity secretary of APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed said that the integrity of the presidential candidate, General Mohammad Buhari won the vote for APC. Both men spoke with Journalists at the national secretariat of APC amid excitement of an anticipated victory Buhari Ameachi further stated that APC would be magnanimous in victory. He said: “We will be magnanimous in victory because the challenges are much. It is not only about celebration of victory, it is about seriousness of governance and we must show the different between us and the current government. If we say there was incompetence, we must show competence. “If we say there was corruption, we must show that we will not be corrupt. If we say that people were denied of their basic right, we must protect their rights. If we say there was impunity, we must govern by the rule of law, and once we show that Nigerians will see the different between us and the current government.” When asked to explain what the victory meant to him, Ameachi said: “Quiet a lot. As the Director-General of the campaign, it is good to me. I will begin to tell my children that for the first time in the history of Nigeria, the opposition party was able to root out the government in power and the party in power by presenting a different picture of what life looks like for giving the people the courage to confront the current government and confront what was going on. “Confront corruption, confront the reality of the fact that Nigerians are hungry, that they don’t go to market as Nigerians do, they have the kind of fund and can eat the kind of food they want and Nigerians are hungry, to let Nigerians know that Boko Haram was not about religion alone but there was poverty and hunger and we have to deal with education and the issue of unemployment in the North and also in the south, and to also make people realise that religion is not an issue in Nigeria.” Also speaking, Alhaji Lai Mohammed said “Buhari’s strong personality, character and integrity, his anti-corruption stance for which he has been known for so many years now, helped to make this victory easier for us. “We would have lost woefully. Buhari made our victory very easy. He is a major factor in the land mark victory. It has never happened that an incumbent is defeated in a national election”. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/03/apc-would-make-a-difference-in-governance-of-nigeria-amaechi/#sthash.6G2D2opa.dpuf
