Politics / Dele Momodu Writes Buhari, Says Nigerians Are Lamenting by Okimski(m): 9:22pm On Nov 28, 2015
Dele Momodu writes a memo to President Muhammadu
Buhari asking him to as a matter of urgency fix Nigeria
saying that Nigerians are lamenting that the change he
promised is fast becoming a mirage and that Buhari’s
style and methodology appear too slow.
He also went further to say that many mostly the
oppotions want the government to fail saying that they
were ‘skillfully setting the president up for failure in order
to be able to taunt his supporters.’
Read the full memo bellow .
By Dele Momodu

Your Excellency, it’s been months since I wrote my
desperate memo to you. I wish to thank you once more
for reacting promptly and swiftly at that time and for
giving me the honour and privilege of meeting you in your
office. I remember presenting you a special compilation
of my articles, especially the many admonitions to your
immediate predecessor, President Goodluck Ebele
Jonathan.
After handing over the book to you, Sir, I promised to
continue acting in my self-appointed capacity as Special
Adviser because of the need to tell you what those very
close to you might not be able to say. They might be
afraid of you and your reaction.
The truth is you are a plain and simple man imbued with
a mission and a passion to save this great country but
you cannot do it on your own. You can only do it if
people close to you, who should be advising you, tell you
as it is so that you can do that which you were elected to
do.
Sir, it is on the above basis that I’m back today for
reasons some of which you probably know already from
your own personal observations and readings. But
before I go further, kindly permit me to set some records
straight before some conspiracy specialists step forward
to ascribe other people’s opinion to me. I shall clearly
expose my personal views and state where I belong or
stand for any avoidance of doubt. Everywhere I go
people refer to me as Buhari’s man and ask “what’s your
Baba doing ooo?”. I seriously have no problem with that.
I’m proud that I joined so many other Nigerians as well
as foreign friends in supporting a man of impeccable
pedigree and solid integrity. No matter your view of
President Muhammadu Buhari, one thing his bitterest
enemies give to him is the fact that he is way above the
level of most mortals in matters of uprightness.
This is why many of us volunteered to scream your name
to high heavens and we were ready to follow you to
Golgotha. Many of your opponents have not gotten over
the thrashing you gave them and would forever seek
everything and anything to smear you with. It is
therefore not surprising that there has been so much
noise about what you’ve done or left undone. Whether
they are right or wrong in their assessment, I feel it is
right and proper to let you know what people are saying
about you including your most ardent fans and
supporters. Sir, please, let’s not dismiss them as mere
rabble-rousers. A groundswell of public opinion can
easily metamorphose into an ocean of disenchantment
and cataclysmic confusion. In short, I believe your
enemies are skilfully setting you up for failure in order to
be able to taunt your supporters later by saying we “we
told you so!” In this regard it is pertinent to always bear
in mind the Yoruba saying ‘ehin kunle l’ota wa, ile ni a se
ni ngbe’! Loosely translated it means “the enemy lurk
outside in the backyard but your foe resides inside your
house.”
What is the matter this time? Many Nigerians are
lamenting that the change you promised them is fast
becoming a mirage. It is certainly not what they are
seeing right now. They insist that your style and
methodology appear too slow for a nation in dire straits
and in need of urgent and miraculous deliverance. They
are not happy that you are no longer the prudent man
they used to know. They think you’ve already capitulated
by frolicking with members of the bourgeois class and
junketing around the world while Nigeria burns like
Dante’s inferno. They are miffed that you are still
keeping the Presidential fleet when you are supposed to
have sold most of them off, if not all. They are worried
that the mandate of four years they gave you is being
unwittingly frittered away and before you know it all the
goodwill you garnered would have evaporated and
vamoosed. Time, they say, waits for no man!
The economy and the free fall of the Naira have become
worrisome. There are all manner of rumours that may
make matters worse, if true, about the current state and
status of our banks. Though the Central Bank of Nigeria
has come out forcefully to dispel the dangerous
rumours, they want you to unleash your economic
master-plan as soon as possible, so that what was once
a baseless rumour does not somehow become harsh
reality. They are expecting a blue-print that would
guarantee a farewell to poverty. On this I agree with the
opinion that something drastic has to be conjured up to
arrest this drift to perdition. Nothing amplifies this
monumental tragedy than the debit card fiasco which
stipulates that Nigerians cannot live in a civilised world
by walking into any international hotel or shop of their
choice and paying with their cards. This is terribly
depressing.
What this means in plain terms is that Nigerians must
patronise the black market and run the risk of carrying
cash recklessly whenever they travel abroad. It makes a
mockery of the cashless society that the CBN has fought
so hard to put in place and jeopardises your fight against
corruption because government officials who travel
abroad must of necessity carry large sums of cash if
they are not to be embarrassed or even disgraced. Sir,
the most important thing is that this is not healthy at all.
The last thing your Government should be telling the
world is that we are so broke that we are on our knees.
The world laughs at us and treats us with derision
because we have resources other than crude oil which
should make us one of the richest in the world if we
properly harness them. We must stop giving the
impression that we are so impoverished when it is
leadership, brigandage and a lack of focus that has failed
us.
The other matter that continues to embarrass Nigerians
is the issue of Boko Haram. The matter is made worse
by the fact that you are a retired army General who
should know and have what it takes to drastically reduce
if not exterminate the cankerworm. But rather the
menace has exacerbated. It has snowballed into a
seemingly unquenchable conflagration. I had argued
repeatedly that the military alone cannot achieve this
result. Intelligence seems to be the key word here. Also
identifying and locating some of the cells and prominent
sympathisers is crucial. Those who arrogantly and
naively say that no form of negotiation should take place
are very far from the theatre of war. They have probably
not heard of a group called IRA, the Irish Republican
Army, that terrorised Great Britain for God knows how
many years. I and my directors at Ovation International
were lucky to escape a massive explosion that shattered
the peace and tranquillity of London Docklands when a
bomb went off inside the South Quay light rail station
which was next to our office at Beaufort Court. The
battle of wits and the war of attrition had to be fought
using the carrot and the stick approach. It was the carrot
approach that eventually succeeded and the United
Kingdom has now been rid of that hitherto interminable
scourge for many years!
The Boko Haram issue has defied every effort made so
far and it is time to expand the options for the sake of
our fellow citizens in the heart of this conundrum. When
over 200 girls vanished into thin air, we were so sure they
would return very soon but that has remained an illusion.
This should tell us that this issue is not a joke and that
we need to keep all windows open. Sir, Nigerians want to
see government show a different approach and better
compassion than what we had in the past. They are
waiting to see how you will do this with minimum
collateral damage.
Sir, you have a herculean task ahead but it is not a
mission impossible. Other nations are experiencing
almost similar challenges and they are forging ahead.
The first indicator to exhibit our seriousness is when we
stop the business as usual syndrome and tighten the
belts of government officials and politicians. If the idea is
to continue along the path of profligacy then Nigeria is
contagiously jinxed. The Republic of Tanzania has
already taken the lead. I will publish a report that has
already gone viral below this letter as a veritable
example of what is possible.
I wish you well as always Sir.

Politics / Buhari Yet To Give Finance Ministry Details Of Recovered Loot — Adeosun by Okimski(m): 4:28am On Nov 28, 2015
Despite claims that his administration has recovered stolen money from previous government officials, President Muhammadu Buhari, it was disclosed, is yet to give details of the recovery to the Federal Ministry of Finance.

Addressing journalists in Abuja at the end of the monthly Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) meeting in Abuja on Friday, the Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun, when asked how much had been recovered from those who looted the treasury, said President Buhari was yet to provide the ministry with details of how much had been recovered but the recovery process was ongoing.

The minister did not say if the recovery had been lodged into the federation account to be shared by the three tiers of government or was still domiciled in a separate government account pending further directive from the president.

The recovered money became an issue at the October 2015 FAAC briefing when the finance minister stated that funds available for disbursement at the end of the meeting was more than the amount shared in the previous month.

She also said that the ministry was doing everything within its powers to increase revenue for the federation.

At the end of the FAAC meeting, the Federal, State and Local governments shared a total sum of N473.83 billion for the October 2015 Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) meeting.

This set of allocations to the three tiers of government marked a pleasant departure from the previous months of falling allocations.

The October 2015, FAAC disbursements, the finance minister said, represents an increase of N83.89 billion compared to the N389.93 billion distributed in September.

Adeosun, who presided over her first FAAC meeting as Minister of Finance, gave the breakdown of disbursements to journalists shortly after the month’s FAAC meeting which began at 5pm and lasted up till 8:09 p.m.

The minister said the amount shared comprised of revenue from statutory sources made up of N388.59 billion and Value Added Tax, N57.78 billion. Of this amount, the statutory allocation to the three tiers of government, she said, was the Federal Government N191.99 billion, States governments N97.38 billion and local governments N75.07 billion.

Adeosun also said the sum of N24.14 billion was allocated to the oil producing states based on the 13 per cent derivation principle. While under the Value Added Tax (VAT), allocations, the Federal Government received N8.66 billion, states governments pocketed N28.89 billion and local governments were given N20.22 billion to share.

She put the gross statutory revenue for the month of October at N400.31bn stating that this was higher than the N321.99bn received in the month of September.

Business / Five Signs You Shouldn't Be An Entrepreneur by Okimski(m): 6:59am On Nov 25, 2015
Can you say yes to any of these?
Don't start a business.
These days it seems like everyone wants to be an
entrepreneur. For instance, according to a Fox Business
News report a couple years ago, nearly half of Americans
wanted to own their own business.
If so many people want to own a business, why is it that
so few do?
The answer is simple. It's hard. I firmly believe that
anyone can be an entrepreneur, but most people won't
put in the time, energy, and commitment it takes to be
successful at the ownership level.
And that's OK. Not everyone needs to be a business
owner. But if you're wondering whether the
entrepreneurship game is for you, consider the following
five statements. If you say yes to any of these, you might
want to reconsider.
If, however, you read these five statements and don't feel
that they represent you, then maybe it's time to take the
leap.
1. You don't have thick skin. It seems that as soon as
you announce you are starting a business everyone is
an expert in starting a business. Not everyone will
love your idea or product, and they won't be afraid to
tell you. I'm not saying you shouldn't listen to
criticism, but you have to be able to take the punches
and not take everything personally.
2. You don't like being "connected." As an entrepreneur,
there really isn't such a thing as "disconnecting" from
the world, not in the beginning anyway. You'll be
living and breathing your new company while trying to
educate everyone about your business. You'll be
constantly thinking about how to improve things,
reduce costs, and sell more. There is no such thing
as a 9-to-5 work schedule when you're an
entrepreneur.
3. You need to be praised for your efforts. If you're an
employee, you're probably used to getting constant
feedback about your performance, task and project
completion. A lot of employees are even used to their
bosses telling them how great they are - even if they
know they aren't. This is not the case for an
entrepreneur. You won't hear any of that unless you
tell yourself. Your praise comes in the form of making
money. And it's going to be a while before you really
get the praise you're looking for.
4. You need someone to give you motivation. Similar to
needing praise, if you need external motivation, you
shouldn't be an entrepreneur either. When you wake
up in the morning as an entrepreneur, there isn't
someone standing in your kitchen ready to give you
that day's tasks. It's all on you.
5. You're only comfortable wearing one hat. There are
people I know that are only comfortable being an
accountant, or a writer, or an event planner, These
people are only comfortable doing one thing and, as
such, should never be an entrepreneur. As an
entrepreneur, especially a solopreneur, you are often
putting on different hats, making a multitude of
decisions and you need to be confident in doing so.
Here's the good news. Even if you said yes to one or
more of these, you can make a change. I'm a firm
believer that anyone can change his or her mindset. All
you need is the determination and a little help along the
way.
But if you want to be an entrepreneur, change you must.
No better time to start than today.

Very big lie. Jonathan has a daughter in Los Angeles living like a queen in a serene environment with her husband. Her name is Faith Osakwe. She just delivered a baby at UCLA hospital just three months ago.

Some of you need to shut up promoting this thiefing hopeless man some of you call "hero".

I'm glad he's gone and never coming back.

He said he doesn't have a house overseas, who paid for the house Faith lives in the US? Who paid for the house his fat son and teenage daughter currently live in London? By the way, he moved his kids to London in January 2015.
He made the statement before Faith got married

Politics / 58 Quotable Quotes Of Ex-president Goodluck Jonathan @ 58 by Okimski(m): 5:18am On Nov 20, 2015
Fifty-eight years ago, former President Goodluck
Jonathan was born in Otueke, a predominantly fishing
community, presently in Ogbia Local Government Area of
Bayelsa State.
On that fateful Wednesday of November 20, 1957, baby
Jonathan was born into the family of Mr. Lawrence
Jonathan. His mother is Mrs Eunice.
Rising from what he (Jonathan) has always described as
a journey from ‘grass to grace,’ the son of canoe makers,
rose from a Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State to
becoming Nigeria’s President, the highest office in the
country.
Jonathan, who held sway as the country’s No. 1 citizen
for 60 months/24days (5 May 2010 – 29 May 2015) is
many things to many people.
For instance, recently, Jonathan who led the
Commonwealth international observers team to monitor
the Tanzanian general election held on October 25, 2015,
was described as ‘a hero of free and fair election in
Africa,’ having contributed largely to the successful
conduct of the election which was declared peaceful,
free, fair and credible by international observers.
Basking in the euphoria of the high respect they have for
Jonathan, particularly for making that unusual and
unprecedented sacrifice to concede defeat to his
opponent, General Muhammadu Buhari (now President),
The Daily News of Tanzania, in an editorial before the
election, titled, ‘Salutary lessons for Tanzania from
Nigeria’s latest elections,’ paid glowing tributes to
Jonathan.
The newspaper commended him for taking his defeat in
the last presidential election “in all magnanimity,”
stressing that, “Jonathan may very well have averted
bloodshed that is characteristic of incumbent leaders
who cling in power tooth and nail, fang and claw! What
lesson is there in this for us in Tanzania, pray?”
The paper maintained: “It is generally admitted that the
election in Nigeria was unprecedentedly free, fair and
transparent, whereby the opposition candidate,
Muhammadu Buhari, won the Presidency. What is more
remarkable is that the incumbent president who sought
re-election, Goodluck Jonathan, … most graciously
accepted the results promptly!
“Oh, I don’t know beyond the fact that Tanzania could
tragically do worse if it fails to dedicatedly take a leaf out
of Nigeria’s newest book on elections!”
Similarly, the Guardian of Tanzania, in its own editorial
entitled, ‘High profile figures among observers will add
credibility to poll process, results’, poured encomiums on
the former Nigerian president, describing him as a
democrat who has pointed the way forward for the rest
of Africa.
The Guardian further wrote that “Jonathan’s voluntary
handover of power to the opposition wrote a new chapter
for Nigeria’s democracy, given the fact that it is rare for
sitting presidents in Africa to hand over powers to
winning opposition parties.”
Against this backdrop, Vanguard captures 58 quotable
quotes of Ex-President Jonathan as he clocks 58.

Politics / Arrest Order: Dasuki Says He Is Being Embarrassed by Okimski(m): 7:16am On Nov 18, 2015
Former National Security Adviser (NSA), Colonel Sambo
Dasuki (retd) has expressed his disappointment over
reports that President Muhammadu Buhari ordered his
arrest over alleged siphoning of billions of dollars
earmarked for arms purchases.
The embattled former NSA, according to Vanguard,
disclosed that he was never officially or unofficially
invited by the 13-man panel set up by the president
to audit the procurement of arms and equipment in the
Armed Forces and Defence sector from 2007 to date, to
appear before it.
Dasuki in one of his appearances in court
While still wondering how the panel came up with an
interim report without hearing from him, Sasuki told PR
Nigeria that, “I have never been invited formally or
informally to appear before the panel. I am therefore not
only surprised but embarrassed by seeming indictment by
the panel purportedly operating from Office of the National
Security Adviser that never contacted me.
“For the record, I am proud to serve my nation with the best
of intention and ensuring the recovery of more than 22 local
government councils from Boko Haram terrorists.
“Because of the pride on how we tackled terrorism and
defeated Boko Haram terrorists through our gallant troops
and partners in the twilight of the previous administration,
that is the reason I have insisted on open and public trial of
my stewardship rather than secret trial in the court as being
canvassed by my prosecutors.
“I wish Nigerians will go back and reflect on what we did
with even little or no supports from some countries, we
performed miracles before the emergence of this
administration. Even though the committee was to
investigate procurement from 2007 to 2015, yet only my
name is always being mentioned even when some of the
issues were before I came into the government.”
The former security adviser had canceled his trip
abroad for medication on his failing health after it
emerged that the Department of State Security (DSS)
was planning to arrest him at the airport, but the federal
government denied the allegation, stating that he was
being prevented from traveling because of some other
cases against him.
Dasuki will have to prove his innocence before the court
before he will be allowed to travel outside the country to
attend to his ill health.

That is good to know, at least we now know Nigeria have a voice, after much complain it has been activated
Politics / Mark Zuckerberg Has Activated Safety Check For Nigeria by Okimski(m): 6:59am On Nov 18, 2015
We've activated Safety Check again after the bombing in
Nigeria this evening.
After the Paris attacks last week, we made the decision to
use Safety Check for more tragic events like this going
forward. We're now working quickly to develop criteria for
the new policy and determine when and how this service
can be most useful.
Unfortunately, these kinds of events are all too common, so
I won't post about all of them. A loss of human life
anywhere is a tragedy, and we're committed to doing our
part to help people in more of these situations.
In times like this, it's important to remind ourselves that
despite the alarming frequency of these terrible events,
violence is actually at an all-time low in history and
continues to decline.
Deaths from war are lower than ever, murder rates are
generally dropping around the world, and -- although it's
hard to believe -- even terrorist attacks are declining.
Please don't let a small minority of extremists make you
pessimistic about our future.
Every member of our community spreads empathy and
understanding on a daily basis. We are all connecting the
world together. And if we all do our part, then one day there
may no longer be attacks like this.

Politics / Buhari Has Shown Nigeria Can Join Big League – Minister by Okimski(m): 5:59pm On Nov 17, 2015
The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai
Mohammed, said on Tuesday that President
Muhammadu Buhari had shown that Nigeria had the
capacity to join the “big league“ of nations. Mohammed
said this in Abuja in the course of his interaction with the
directors and heads of units in the ministry.
He said that the President had leveraged his legendary
personality, discipline, transparency, integrity, belief in
the Rule of Law, and patriotism to put the country on the
global map. “Since assuming office, President Buhari,
the driver of change, has shown and demonstrated that
Nigeria can join the big league.
“He has leveraged his legendary personal discipline,
transparency, integrity, belief in the Rule of Law, and
unparalleled patriotism to put Nigeria on the global map,
to show his compatriots that Nigeria can be great again
and to show that what seemed impossible yesterday is
now possible, either in the war on terrorism, the fight
against corruption, the determination to uplift the
economy, to provide jobs for our teeming youths and to
ensure life more abundant for all Nigerians.’’
The minister, therefore, urged the directors and other
management staff of the ministry to drive the change
agenda of the Buhari administration “with the passion of
champions of change“. According to him, in the days
ahead, the ministry will be saddling the directors with
heavier and newer responsibilities as part of efforts to
effectively play our role as the champions of change.
Gentlemen, in the days ahead, gentlemen, we will be
saddling with heavier and newer responsibilities as part
of the efforts to discharge our roles as champions of
change “Brace up, because it is going to be one heck of
a ride. “We hope you will be part of the train of change,
because many people will like to be where you are today.
This is a historic moment
“In the run up to the last elections, there were times that
we did not have money to even run our adverts, whether
on the radio, television or newspapers. We soldiered on
all the same. “We were threatened, kidnapped and
abducted by those who wielded the instruments of
coercion.
“But we remained undaunted. Not even the massive war
chest of the ruling party then could shake our resolve or
deter us, until we rode to office on the wings of
change.’’ “Such was the determination that propelled us
then and such is the determination that can propel us
now.“
He urged the entire workforce to draw its inspiration from
the electoral success of the All Progressives Congress
“to march towards a greater nation“.

Phones / Nairalander Needs Help On Hanging Phonebook Contacts by Okimski(m): 6:10pm On Nov 13, 2015
I don't know if it's a usual occurrence with every android phone of just my phone alone.

I have used an Innjoo note and currently using an Infinix hot note and on both occasions when I try to access my phonebook, it usually hangs and wouldn't show any contacts till after about 30mins. This reoccurs on daily basis that it becomes irritating that I have to wait for up to 30mins to view contacts or missed calls on many occasions.

Pls what's the cause and remedy for this problem.

NB: It started after a few months of using both phones!
