OP you made some valid points up there but did you consider what you will be depriving these kids if you don't buy them these gadgets? What if I tell you that there are smart phones/Tablets the protects kids from all the listed "should nots" you mentioned above.

I recently stumbled on a smart tablet that blew me off my mind. Specially designed for kids/young adults. I thought it was the normal 'useless' tablets with bloated features but on close examination...... dude I couldn't believe what i saw..... I had to buy despite the cost.

There is no reason to deny a child access to a smart devices, just make sure that whatever smart device you are getting for them is one that will protect them and give you the parent or guardian the privilege to also monitor their activities.
