PoliticsRe: Nigerian Man Attempts To Detonate Explosive On Delta Flight In US by olafolarin(m): 6:58am On Dec 27, 2009
ROSSIKE:
This guy was another in a long line of ''terrorists'' who received their ''indoctrination'' in LONDON, a US ally.

The suspect lived in an apartment owned by ''a US company''.

His father, a former First Bank chairman, had allegedly ''reported his son's extremist views to the US embassy in Abuja''. (I find that really strange. What father does that?)

As usual, nothing was done about the ''warning'', and the ''terrorist'' was granted multiple entry visas to the USA despite all the ''warnings''.

It's the same tired, old script we heard during the hoopla about 9/11 and other events.

Strangely ''bungling'' US officials, who for some reason always seem to ''slip up'' and let these ''terrorists'' do these horrible things, ''compelling'' poor old USA to ''take action'' by sending invasion troops to oil-rich regions to ''secure supplies'', and ''protect strategic US interests''.

All very contrived, for those with still functioning brains.
Your conspiracy theory is very good and America's counter-intelligence initiatives in the past, the guy's father's voyage into leaving First bank to create Nigeria's first Islamic bank makes it almost believable but I sincerely dont believe the U.S will go that far.

I believe the guy had extremist views and acted in isolation. His father fore-warned U.S. but they didnt see him as a threat.

Its just really unfortunate and we in diaspora can expect more scrutiny from stern looking foreign security operatives.

Huuuuuuuuuuuummmmmmnnnnnnnnnnnn, did I hear someone claim ownership of Lagos? It belongs to all Nigerians, reason being that it was a Federal Capital. The place was also developed by the oil money from the south, so let nobody start another civil war by asking Igbo people and other Nigerians to go to their states. Again the constitution of Nigeria guarantees all Nigerians the right to live and own property anywhere in Nigeria. Now to the poster, DID YOU REMEMBER THAT THE LATE OBAFEMI AWOLOWO AS THE FED. COMMISSIONER FOR FINANCE CONFISCATED ALL THE MONEY OWNED BY EASTERNERS AND USED THEIR SWEAT TO DEVELOP THE SOUTH WEST WITHOUT PAYING THEM ANY DIME? [s][/s]
You are off the mark.
Awolowo never confiscated any money owned by he easterners.Awolowo initiated a reformed taxing system in SW which ensures that everybody pays tax no matter your level in the society. Most successful was the tenement rate through which the SW generated tremendous revenue to finance the Premier uNIVERSITY In Ibadan and other projecvts.may i also remind you that SW generated tremendous revenue from cocoa exports which it used to develop the region. The structures are still therte today and the oil dollars cant even match the cocoa cents.

Olafolarin,

Abia and Enugu has or had Yoruba as senior special advisers to the respective governors. We also have discussed this here last time
The main shareholders of many of the banks are not Yoruba' maye be GTB and Intercontinental. First, Union banks are mixed. UBA is almost Igbo. Zenith is also mixed. Diamond is Igbo and so is Fidelity.

There are Agberos everywhere and that should not be in doubt. But we are talking of numbers here.
What numbers precisely?
People should stop taking yorubas to be Agberos and area boys.Because there Agberos everywhere in Nigeria.
I was introduced to someone(an ibo man) in a social function here in germany and to my chagrin,he just shouted "egbon mi bawo ni" alaye baba. The friend who introduced us(an ibo man also) was really shocked  but i just laughed it off because it is obvious the fellow stayed too long in lagos maybe Lagos Island and must have faced enough stress miscreants.

Concerning banks what i am trying to say is that tribal imbalance is almost not feasible as every tribe is represnted. In order to generate deposits,it will be easier for an Ibo employee to seek deposits from Ibo depositor and vice versa.

Lagos ke? I am in Obodo Oyibo enjoying my life.
Note that I said ''how many''? I have not completely dismissed the possibility. However, Globalcom has offices/facilities in Igboland including in remote areas; it is getting good money from Igbo people as much as it is employing them. BTW, Globalcom is an IBB company which Adenuga is merely holding forth
African petroleum will employ how many?
Which are the real banks? How many of the banks are owned solely by Yoruba or they are publicly quoted and owned by all Nigerians? I, even I, have large shares in 10 banks including the 5 biggest ones. The typical Yoruba bank, namely WEMA Bank, will have as many Igbos as Zero in their employ. Thus, the idea that an Igbo takes a job from a Yoruba is rubbish. An average Yoruba will never employ an Igbo.
You sre so wrong on this one.
Please check the Lagos state executives and you'll see that Ben Akabueze was the Director of Budget & Planning under Tinubu and NOW  elevated to the Honourable Commissioner for Budget and planning.

The Publicity SEc of Action Congress(AC) in lagos state is Joe igokwe--an igbo man.
The board of most banks in Nigeria may be dominated by Yorubas but Ibos and Hausas are also employed.

It is very myopic to believe that Yorubas are Agberos. While working with UTB and GTB,i was in Ariara market,Aba and onitsha. The agberos in those mkts are even more vicious and greedy than those in lagos.

In every city, there are people in the lower elm of the society who lives from hand to mouth. They do odd jobs to survive and will use every laxity from govt to better their lot.Hence the emergence of Agbero in every aspect of Nigerias commercial life.

It is nothing tribal but innovations borne out of desperation to survive

If you look at the poverty stats, Lagos has a relatively lower level of poverty. The higher levels of poverty in the South West is due to the surrounding states. In Nigeria, there are greater levels of poverty in the rural areas than the urban areas.

What these stats reveal is the total disconnect between Govt investment and the poverty levels. A good lesson for lefties everywhere, including the UK/US. If state intervention reduced poverty, the North will have far lower levels of poverty.

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

I would have to disagree with this view. How do the stats reveal a disconnect between government investment and poverty levels? Are u insinuating that the Federal Government has done more for the North than for the South? In reality, the Federal Government does not directly intervene in the lives of Nigerians. Whatever economic conditions exist in individual parts of Nigeria are due as much to the policies of the state government as they are to the policies of the Fed. And in a country like Nigeria where the Federal Government has not done its parts in creating the enabling conditions for economic prosperity, are you really advocating that the government (both Federal & State) should not directly intervene in creating economic prosperity through poverty reduction and social welfare programs?
The point here is that the North enoyed more attention in terms of infrastructural development, projects allocation,LG creation, etc more than any other part of Nigeria. But they still languish in poverty because there is no direct correlation between infrastucture and economic development.

Can you expatiate further on that pls?
Can you interpret the court ruling that stops the said re-run elections?

It's not about AC, PDP, ANPP et al but the democratic system of our dear country.
The election was stopped and the ourt ordered INEC to update the voters register and send the updated copy to all political parties contesting the election. But instead,INEC sent the 2007 voters register and went ahead with the election despite a subsisting injuction/order restraining INEC from conducting the election. That is "CONTEMPT OF COURT".
AC boycotted and advised its teeming supportsers to stay away from the election and it is a matter of time before a competent Court of law will declare the said charade they called election false, null and void.
Omisore is the gr8test fraud in Yorubas history and was only voted back into the Senate by INEC for him to reclaim the Chairmanship of the Senate Committee on Appropriation.

Time will tell.

Olafolarin in Germany, I thought you said Yorubas are better than Igbos as quoted below? grin grin grin grin

See some nice data here to controvert your ignorant statement: https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-371485.0.html
Can you please tell me exactly where i contradicted myself.
Tinubu was a controversial leader but not a "CRASS FAILURE".He is a visionary leader that saw the before-hand the maniac in OBJ.
Contrary to your illusive opinion,Yorubas never supported OBJ anytime. Not in 1999 or 2003.
In 1999 elections,OBJ lost in his ward, village(Owu),Local Govt and state. But he secured big votes from Soth-east,North and other parts of Nigeria.
By 2003,using power of incumbency he forced, intimidated and blackmailed AD bigwigs to join his bandwagon. He used money and all Govts machineries to terrorise every opposition into oblivion. It was almost like a Tsunami that swept through South-West taking along all AD governors EXCEPT BOLA TINUBU.At a stage he offered Tinubu cabinet post as a "gift" of which he will decamp to PDP in return. But tinubu refused blatantly.
Bola Tinubu's refusal lead to a direct confontation with OBJ who siezed his LG allocation, delayed the payment the states Federal allocation, deprived lagos of any meaningful FG projects and allocated a whopping N2Billion to the Lagos PDP to ensure that Lagos comes under PDP umbrella come 2003.But that was not to be as Fashola(at the time completely unkown with no political machinery)became the governor.
I may have to enlighten you at this stage that Tinubu developed a masterplan for the development of lagos state from its pre -1993 state to a fledging Megacity. The Eko Atlantic City Project,Waste Recycling Plants,Road Network development plans,BRT,Light Rail projects amongst others were all plans concieved, designed and started by tinubu when fashola was his Chief Of staff. He started those plans and fashola is just continuing where Tinubu stopped from.
SO PLEASE DONT TELL ANYONE TINUBU IS A FAILURE.HE IS THE BEST POLITICIAN THAT EVER HAPPENED TO SOUTH-WEST SINCE 1999.He turned a former 2time president from the same region into a political midget.

Yorubas never supported OBJ not even in his first time as military leader.he is seen within Yorubas as imposter and a visionless leader.Ibos on the other hand voted for him en mass without pondering over his personality.

It will do a lot of good to your intelligence when you do some research before posting stuffs. You crack my ribs when you think "OLUBUKOLA SARAKI" is not Yoruba.Bukola's father and ancestors came from Ogun and the current Osun state. His father settled in kwara state and was a strong politician in the 2nd republic. He aided the grouping of Kwara into North-whatever.
The old Kwara state i must tell you is the link between western region andother parts. As a transport hub, hausas in haulage settled in Kwara to be able to move freely and faster to North when the need arises.High population of hausas in kwara never implies the state his a Northern state hence the creation of the current Kogi state which his meant to be a Northern state.

Yorubas being better than Ibos or vice versa,

Concerning the event leading to the end of the civil war,Yorubas played an important role and Awolowo's input is a svaing grace for the Ibos. The level of illiteracy in South-East indigenes within age bracket 20-40 is alarming and in my humble opinion is a spill-over from the civil war tsunami. While the Yorubas within the same age bracket enjoyed free education to the university level for all its kindred.

So please tell me,where did i contradict myself.
PoliticsRe: Poverty:Yorubaland and Mid West are Poor And North Most Developed Pictures by olafolarin(m): 2:16am On Dec 26, 2009
The South-WEst definitely lacks good Federal projects because the region is mostly in opposition to the Federal Govt.
The North enjoyed more developmental projects and infrastructures because of the long and delayed Military rule.
The Yorubas are ok in Nigeria and we will still be very fine.
OBJ,OGD,Alao-akala were all great failure on our politics and polity but we have sprinkles of hope in Fashola,Tinubu,Bukola Saraki, etc.

What the SW needs is a visionary and progressive leader in the form of Fashola,a sustainable developmental plan in the make of Eko Atlantic City, and a committed leadership to see it through.

What took 38 years for the North to develop,SW can develop in 10 planned years.

PoliticsRe: Babatunde Fashola For President by olafolarin(m): 3:29am On Dec 14, 2009
Establishing IPP is not a problem. But the fusion with PHCN is the real problem.Enron had similar proble with the then NEPA in Lagos.

PHCN whollly controls power distribution in Nigeria with the exception of new territories(e.g Eko Atlantic City)What that means in effect is that IPP can generate power but it still have to be sent to PHCN for distribution.
Kwara State for instance just commissioned a brand new power plant. The power generated from the plant will be connected to the national grid but consideration will be given to the generation source. That means if Kwara generates 80 MW of electricity which is enough for thr entire populace,it might get just 30-50 MW from PHCN.
No matter what you generate PHCN will still distribute as it pleases.
Thats the most discouraging part of power supply in generation in Nigeria

In as much as i respect the depth of your research, you still left so much out of the box.
The Abuja project was funded by the FG(as FCT has no functional govt)as a test and pioneer project. It ran for some months independently before being connected to the Federal grid.
The Aba project however is a very expensive state project($400m) which will bring succour to only 50k people. As at today, the project is nowhere near advanced phase.

Lagos population is in its tens of millions and it will take over a billion dollar well concieved, designed, implemented and executed power masterplan for every lagosian to enjoy a stable power supply.
And how do you know there is no plan on ground to that effect?
Transformers of international standard were being produced in Badagry,Lagos to cater for the local and international market.

I believe the story and the Police Chief's opinion.
Its even more mind-boggling in Germany,Spain,Holland and Austria.
In Landstrasse Prison in vIENNA,there are 893 nigerian inmates and the whole prison can only take 950 people.I hope i'm not be tribalist if i tell you that all the 9ja inmates in this particular prison were convicted of the same crime(drugs, drugsrelated crime)and they are all IBOS.

Germany with its high % of police officers faces the same invasion by Nigerian drug criminals too.

So If anybody carrying naija passport is harassed in any airport in the world,we shouldnt be annoyed.
