sexyLeamon:Drunk driving is a serious offence even in advanced world.A culprit could serve up to 1 year in prison for the offence in Germany. Its the root of most accidents especially on weekend mornings(after nights out at clubs).the jail term can be accompanied with high fine, compulsory "dry-out" seminars/training,continuous and sporadic urine test, and a driving ban for a lenghty period. So 40 lashes is still very very very fair. |

The Magistrate Court, sitting at Life Camp, Abuja, and presided over by Magistrate Sanusi Lamido, this morning, struck out the case of criminal conspiracy and forgery of Police Security Report, filed by the Nigeria Police Force against Engineer Rauf Aregbesola, the Governorship Candidate of the Action Congress(AC), in the April 14, 2007 governorship election in Osun State. The case was struck out for lack of proper investigation. The prosecutor counsel pleaded that the case be struck out vide Section 130 of CPC and Section 36 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Barrister Kunle Adegoke, the defence counsel said the withdrawal is in order and that the court lacked jurisdiction ab initio to adjudicate the case. Supporters of the AC Candidate bursted into raptuorous joy and singing after the verdict of the court. |
The elected Chairman of Oredo LG was a PDP member as well as the 3 commissioners that tendered their letters of resignation. The LG boss was sacked by Oshiomole for defrauding and embezzling his council to amount running into billions of naira. The Speaker can say whatever he wants to say.AC has come to stay in Edo state. |
Aloy~Emeka:Pls break through that door and enter into OBLIVION.A world in which you exist without feeling your existence Bible says "Give unto caesar what belongs to caesar", I will never near that door ooo. |
Chief Tony Anenih, former chairman of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is unarguably, one of the best political prophets to have come from Edo State and indeed Nigeria, in recent times. His political predictions have been known not only to have been so accurate but to have come to pass. One of such prophesies was his accurate predictions in 2003, that there was no vacancy in Aso rock and the South South and recently he predicted that Professor Charles Soludo, will pick the gubernatorial ticket of Anambra State even if it means changing his name from Chief Tony Anenih to Chief Tony ‘Anene’, to support the former governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), if he needed his services, he promised to avail his services free of charge. The word of the Anenih is gradually coming to pass again in Anambra State politics. He has been able to arm twist the people of Anambra State including Chief Chris Uba and Andy Uba, the self styled Governor-in-waiting of Anambra State to hand over the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP’s) ticket for the 2010 gubernatorial election to Soludo. No wonder, Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State threatened to banish him to Anambra State to retire to political oblivion if he, Oshiomhole has his way. A prophet, they say is without honour in his own town because the people knowing him will term him a false or fake prophet. The leader as he is known as fought so many political battles, to install from party delegates to Presidents of the nation and some whose elections were annulled, where he earned the title Mr. Fix It, some political associates in the past, has described him as their own political god, who transformed them from a zero level to become heroes today, one described the face of Anenih as the face of God, which he will first of all pray to for blessings. The task of returning former President Olusegun Obasanjo to power in 2003 was rested squarely in his arms, teaching PDP leaders how to win elections and set up reconciliation committees later. Obasanjo attempted to retire him prematurely, from politics, when Obasanjo jokingly said that the hair of the leader is all grey now if not for hair dye and should now be referred to as an Elder instead of Leader as he is fondly called because Obasanjo was interested in becoming the chairman of the party’s board of trustees, having seen the enormous powers wielded by Anenih, when he Obasanjo, was president and commander in chief, he then tactically had the Elder to retire and leave the stage for him the new leader. He told Anenih to move the motion, which will endorse Obasanjo as the new chairman of the board of trustees, Mr. Fix It, did not take the joke lightly but he was forced to smile because of Baba’s Stick and carrot, used in cutting opponents to size. Mr. Fix It, who like Obasanjo never forgives a wrong, waited patiently for Obasanjo to quit power before he came back to serve his vengeance cold as he wanted Obasanjo dethroned as chairman from the PDP’ board of trustees. When Anenih, started the political onslaught against Obasanjo,, so many screaming headlines were flying on the pages of newspapers like “Anenih in Soup” “Anenih in Trouble” but the soft spoken politician, while addressing journalist said he shrugged of such sensational headlines and wondered which political pot is big enough to cook the political cat with nine lives in the whole of Sub-Saharan Africa, where he plies his political trade, “No pot is big enough to cook me,” he said. Presently, Anenih is at daggers drawn with Governor Oshiomhole, with each drawing political blood with their comments, Anenih had described Oshiomhole at a political rally held in Ewatto to admit a former AC candidate to PDP as a vibrating compressor that is blowing without having a cooling effect and Oshiomhole has promised to send Mr. Fix It as he is popularly known into political oblivion and wilderness, where he should spend his last days on earth but is that not wishful thinking? The leader will be wondering if there is any political wilderness big enough to accommodate him as a political landlord that has fought many political battles and he promised that even if it took him days, weeks, months or years, he is going to see to the exit of the comrade-governor. That is not a threat that should be taking lightly considering the accuracy of his political predictions, the Governor is only lucky that we have a President that has regards for rule of law if it was in the dark days of Obasanjo, the mace would have been taken to Uromi and the AC assembly men suspended and 2.00 am impeachment carried out to ease him out. Even if Mr. Fix It is down, he has not been fixed and nobody should jubilate over the premature political retirement of Anenih yet or judge the success of such exercises on the defection of political paper weights, such as the local government chairmen of former PDP executives particularly, the former deputy chairman of his senatorial district as the final nail driven into the Fixer’s political casket as those were the same people that were taking the political decisions with Anenih, they even know his Uromi house more than his immediate family, who rarely visited the house. Anenih has reacted by withdrawing his political nominees from Oshiomhole’s government, a move similar to withdrawing ambassadors from a country, with severed ties. The leader promised to retire if Oshiomhole emerged as the Governor of Edo State, through the ballot during the 2007, electioneering campaign, but Oshiomhole, however emerged as the Governor of the State through the judiciary, which restored his stolen mandate, with the two parties then agreeing to burry their political hatchet and work together to see their common enemy Professor Oseremen Osunbor, out of the way. Now that Osunbor is out and the comrade-Governor is seated comfortably, he feels it is time to remind the leader and fixer of his promise to quit the political scene for him to reign. Oshiomhole tested his new found might in the murky political waters of Akoko-Edo Local Government, where he led the AC to victory against the Anenih political PDP machine. He succeed in knocking the PDP engine and won a bye-election, which was held recently and it is time again to remind Mr. Fix It of his promises to quit the political scene for him as the labour leader number is hungry to takeover the soul of Edo State. Where will the leader retire to? Anambra State, Uromi, Edo State to enjoy his political retirement or where? The leader has no option but to fight back savagely to shift the goal post back to the status quo. Will the people allow him, when they meet in the next political Wrestle mania, which will be the Local Government election soon? Hmm…, time will tell. Will the leader’s political reign spanning over 30 years now be over. The retirement age for a public officer is 35 years or more, the comrade-governor requires more than sweeping labour reforms and other acts to upstage the leader and finally force him into retirement because since Mr. Fix It left the police force, the only known game he has known ever after, is the dirty game of politics and this, he has played so well. The two feuding party should play by the rules and not fight dirty, when two elephants fight, the grass usually suffers. Edo State will be worse off for the many battles that will be fought in the days ahead. The State is yet to settle from the spate of robberies and kidnappings going on in the State, political tension added to those criminal activities, will overheat the polity. The father and son should settle their differences amicably or they should be called to order and let Edo people decide, who will govern then through a free fair and participatory democracy. Enough is enough. A comment by Louis Ataga, |
OPERATIVES of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested five suspected drug traffickers for allegedly swallowing 410 wraps of a powdery narcotic substances at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA) Abuja According to a statement by the Head, Public Affairs, Ofoyeju Mitchell, yesterday in Lagos, four of the suspects ingested 335 wraps of substances that tested positive for cocaine with a weight of 5.750kg while one suspect ingested 75 wraps of substances that tested positive for heroin with a weight of 1.3kg. tosh_acer:The conviction of Olabode george is NOT MY THOUGHT.Most Nigerians applauds the decision to send him to Kirikiri for mismanaging N84b.Some even profer he should have been given a longer jail term. For a former-president's close associate be sent to prison in Nigeria for stealing is worth commendable. Our leaders and ruling class steal and gets away with it to the detriment of the poor masses. The wealth meant for the entire nation is being cornered by the mighty few. If a judge did the right thing by jailing erring leaders, such judge will definitely enjoy the sympathy, applause and recognition of the teeming public. |
While Nigeria is just celebrating the conviction of OBJ's boy(olabode george) by a no-nonsense judge. With so much accolade going to the judiciary. The same judiciary in another quarter just sqaundered rule of law by ordering a "RE-RUN": There was enough evidence to show that there was uninterrupted violence in the Osun state south-east senate election of 2007. It would have been a landmark and pacesetting judgement if the judge decides to deduct the results of the violent-ridden wards/LG's from the total votes casted. That would have been a more acceptable and credible decision. It would ave also sent a warning to vote-riggers that thweir days are numbered. However,Iyiola Omisore enjoyed fat salary, allowances, etc as a (former) senator and such amount no matter how big should be returned to the senate's purse. The judge should have gone further to enforce that. Re-run as proven to be more violent-ridden than the actual elections.Ekiti,Akoko-Edo,Osun,etc reruns and the emanating violence is still fresh in our memories. |
@ mekuslogan, We sincerely dont need to be tribalist here.Igbos are known and have a reputation for crimes as well as yorubas and Hausas. But you sincerely missed the point here. Those people u see at the court premises are PDP supporters who intend to turn the court premises into carnival as they were anticipating a clear verdict for Olabode-george.PDP supporters were mobilised from every part of the state to the Court venue with the intention of declaring a carnival like celebration after the court ruling. They are however shocked that the judge had enough evidence to nail the former navy chief and his cohorts. It might interest you to know that the Judge who nailed Olabode-George and his group his a Yoruba man as well. Yoruba's are more tolerant of the Ibos than Hausa. You can imagine what will happen to the entire Igbo nation if all yoruba states should send ibos to their homestate and barr them from re-entering.It will be mass exodus and the consequencies is not far from reach. So get your priorities straight. @ Aloy-Emeka, It will be in your interest to always maintain your anti-tribal sentiments stand which you are known for.Making tribal sentiments will only tear us all apart instead of bringing us together. We should all see each other as brothers and sisters instead of enemies. I LOVE EATING APU WITH OGBONO/UGWU SOUP AND MY MALT DRINK TASTE BETTER WITH A MORTAR FULL OF NKWOBI. |
They are both partners in crime.OBJ,Kenny Martins,Tafa Balogun,Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello,Odili,Segun Agagu will soon join them by the special grace of God. |
Gbenga Ekunola needs to get his priorities straight. He is young, dynamic and poor like me. He has a very thin political and economical weight So he needs to do the following; With immediate effect dump the PDP for a more progressive party like AC. Create a political clout by contesting in House of Assembly slots.Even if he looses,it will increase the reach of his name. Initiate a progressive discussion of political developments in his state through his ward,LG,etc. 2015 is 6 calendar years from today but very small in politics. |
She was indeed in vigil. She should have better reasons to give God to avoid Hell fire. |

Ngige: The march to Government House By UGONNIA PAT ANYADUBADU Tuesday, October 27, 2009 THE SUN NEWSPAPER: Anambra State of Nigeria is on the march again to elect the Governor who will succeed the incumbent, Governor Peter Obi on March 17, 2010. Preparations by the various political parties are gearing up. Political Parties have conducted their congresses and nominated or elected their gubernatorial candidates who will fly their flags in February, 6 2010 election. One party and her candidate stand tall above all other parties and their candidates in many respects – Action Congress (AC). The latter was a child of necessity which came into existence as a result of the need to form a formidable opposition to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which has failed to guarantee good governance to the citizenry. The protracted imbroglio between the then President Obasanjo and his Vice, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar also facilitated the marriage between the followers of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and the factious Alliance for Democracy (AD) which gave birth to Action Congress (AC). Action Congress, a nascent political party stood for 2007 election, as flawed as the election was in favour of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and even as admitted by the numero uno of the country, AC won Lagos State, the commercial nerve centre of the Nation and later Edo State through Judicial process. It was also widely believed that AC would have secured Anambra State with Dr. Chris Ngige as its candidate if the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had not illegally disqualified him. Dr. Ngige as a law abiding citizen challenged his disqualification at the Election Petition Tribunal however before the said Tribunal could hear his petition the Supreme Court decapitated the administration of Mr. Andy Uba who was (s)elected because according to the apex court. Peter Obi had four year tenure at the government house which would end on March 17, 2010. With the release of guidelines for the election by INEC, political activities have been ignited and most of the political parties are embroiled in acrimony. Take for example, PDP was unable to conduct her congress because of avalanche of court injunctions, it eventually settled for Professor Soludo, however, the problem remains as some of his co contestants have refused to recognize him. All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) is not left out as it is still engaged in fight to finish between Chief Chekwas Okorie, its founding father and Chief Victor Umeh. INEC has dramatically recognized Mr. Peter Obi in what it described as consensus candidate for the factious party. How this impasse will be resolve later is not the meat of this piece. Progressive Peoples Party (PPP) has many contestants like Emeka Etiaba, Chikwendu, Emeka Ezeh but eventually settled for Uche Ekwunife and other contestants still aggrieved. It is only Action Congress that is not embroiled in any crisis. Few months ago, the National Leadership of the party visited Awka and made a loud pronouncement declaring a vote of confidence on Ngige who flew the flag of the party in 2007 elections. Recently, the party also organized her congress to elect her flag bearer in Anambra State governorship election. During the congress Dr. Chris Ngige was the sole candidate and unanimously elected to fly the flag of the party. The peaceful conduct of this congress is symbolic and signifies the goodies that will come to the State if Ngige returns to the government house. It is also a radical departure from what was obtainable in other political parties especially PDP. Ngige was at the government house between 2003 and 2006 and his brief stay was revolutionary, a paradigm shift from the megalomaniac, kleptomaniac and maladministration’s of the past. Needless inundating this piece with his achievements which could be likened to the litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary however, suffice it to say that Ngige brought governance to the people. It was Ngige who practically demonstrated the age long maxim of salus populi suprima lex meaning “the welfare of the people is the supreme law”. Personally, I admire him more because of his selfless service and love for his people. When the then President Olusegun Obasanjo, notorious for his dictatorial tendencies (a fall out of many years of military experience) went after him (Ngige) because of his principled stand on issues he (Ngige) considered to be inimical to his people, Ngige refused to be intimidated nor cowed into submission. Even when it was obvious that his principle could cost him his governorship seat, he told his traducers that he was not born a governor. When the Federal Government with General Olusegun Obasanjo as the numero uno unjustifiably and contrary to the principle of Federalism withdrew his security, Ngige demonstrated his political pragmatism by forming a vigilante group that ensured general security in the State. On the third term saga Ngige was vociferous in his opposition notwithstanding his precarious position then. Today, in appreciation of his dogged fight, altruism and good governance, he is being adulated. Among all the contestants, he is the most popular and acceptable candidate. I am also to add that he is the best choice for the State now. The State needs a person of strong character, charming, oratory and charismatic as a rallying point to consolidate on earlier achievement of Ngige and Mr. Peter Obi. Ngige fits into these descriptions above. Mr. Peter Obi tried immensely as a Governor but he is detached from the people, he does not have good voice which no doubt affects his oratory and his charisma falls below minimum requirement. Soludo wiil serve the State better and by extension the country in international organizations after clearing his name from the emerging crises in the banking sector. There is also a moral question whether Soludo is rushing to the contest to clothe himself if he succeeds with toga of immunity because of on going audit of banks. As Dr. Chris Ngige fondly called Onwa begins the turbulent journey to the Government House with his election as ACs flag bearer, one wishes him good luck. It is however incumbent on every good people of Anambra State to insist that his vote counts in deciding who governs the state. Any attempt to reenact the electoral robbery carried out in Anambra State in 2007 in the name of election should be stoutly resisted. Finally, INEC should ensure free and fair election in the State as a prelude to free and peaceful conduct of 2011 election. To all the progressive people of Anambra State, I say Aluta Continua. •Mr. Anyadubalu Lawyer writes from Lagos. |
I am not being myopic or tribalistic here BUT DID ANYONE NOTICE THAT THOSE FOLKS ARE ALL YORUBA.They are people of yoruba heritage which places so much emphassis on good name, forthrightness, family value and virtues, etc Working 8-10 hours daily will not afford fleet of expensive cars, jewelry, designer clothes, etc but will guarantee stress-free and planned life.It will keep one out of jail and with contemptment and adequate planning,it is enough to enough to make life what living. They are all looking at 30 solid years inprisonmment. They'll all be close to pension by the time they are parolled. Lord Have Mercy. |
I sincerely dont know much about Ngige's antecedents but he seems to be the most popular on nairaland. His short turbulent rule must have really impressed nairalanders. I wish him the best though. |
Freedom of expression is definitely not applicable in Nigeria. Government officilas are supposed to listen to constructive critism as a pulse of the populace and made ammendments/adjustments as at when due. Yar'Adua is just too incapable to rule a big and complex country like Nigeria. I hope he will be voted out of office in 2011. |
Soludo should just step aside and allow a normal and legal primaries to take place.he will never win the guber election as the incumbent (Obi) and the former Governor(Ngige) stand a better chance. Soludo will be more productive in a national office. |
It is almost impossible for PHB Asset Mgt and PHB capital to belong to Atuche. It is PHB's property. It can never be his private company. Most of these banks have property and stockbroking arms and employees are "poached" to different arms to garner or diversify knowledge. Tribune and EFCC must have goofed on this, |
please sack the LASU-VC (Prof Hussain), He is a tyran. He should be replaced with the D-VC |
We all know that.We like doing the wrong thing and expecting the right result. If we can do the right thing at the right time,Nigeria will be on the right path for good. We have the means and wherewithall to be a giant in the community of nations, but our leaders are too selfish and disillusioned to "see through the light". Nigeria will be on the right path when people like Shekarau Of Kano State, fashola of lagos state and Rotimi amaechi of River state starts ruling Nigeria. These are non-partisan,untribalistic leaders whose projects, vision and commitment have shown their love for the masses and country. |
@ Beaf, He was loathed in east because he was the leader they so much wanted, desired and craved for but never had.Instead they had Zik who put personal interest above national development.iN THE fIRST republic, the hausa's were a miinority tribe and its completely counterproductive for Zik to take his party to the Hausas in order to be in Govt.Zik's people are still in the trenchies till today because of Ziks lack of foresight and big-throat. Whatever wealth Zik amassed at the time, should still be enough to cater for the teeming Ibo populace. |
I sincerely hope we can all read and summarise what we read. From the article above,As part of the court settlement,he forfeited the 460k dollars in First Heritage bank account he has with the said"Akande".OTHER DEPOSITS HE HAS IN THE SAME BANK,CITIBANK AND OTHER BANKS WAS RETURNED TO HIM. It is a legal victory for Tinubu to get his siezed dollars in different accounts and banks returned to him which by far exceeds the meagre $460k.However,the amount forfeited was to avoid continous court visits. During the period under investigation, these guys were making serious push and campaign for the the june 12 election and definitely money needs to exchange hands to oil the machinery. The amount could have been loundered or transfered from Nigeria. I live in germany and have been visiting U.S.for almost 5 years now,,it takes outright defeat for a Judge to order the immediate release a siezed fund.It means no discrepancies were found and the agents or Feds investigations couldnt proof any link between the fund and narcotics. There is however an established relationship between Tinubu and Akande. But he wasnt involved in Akande's drug distribution network. Tinubu should not be found guilty by association. The publication is just one of many attempt to tarnish Tinubu's name.He is the most branded name in South-West politics and his vision and masterplan is being executed today by the present governor. U.S and Britain are fund of raising dust about our leaders when theirs arent better off. They committed and are still committing the greatest crime against humanity and nobody can say anything about it. |
This thread is really interesting. But more shocking is the display of lack of intelligence. Chief Awolowo is a national hero.He founded african youth movement in Uk with Zik. With proceeds from cocoa he built africa's first TV stattion, built University Ibadan and IFe((Premier Universities). He pursued free education at all levels nationally but because his party won in Western region, the people of the region are the most educated in Nigeria today. Even Zik decamped to Shagari party when Awlowo was in prison. There is no doubt about Chief awolowo being a national hero.He is one of the best Nigeria has ever had.Nigeria's best brains today enjoyed his free education policy and thats a direct challenge to the british aristocracy(which sees education as a revenue earner). The Old western Region(including todays delta, edo and bayelsa states)enjoyed tremendous educatrional and infracstructural progress because of Awlowo's ideals, polity, politics and policy. And that is imcomparable in the whole country. The Ibos migrated to West on daily basis to do business, get free education, medical care, etc all these are unobtainable in the east.Eastern region would have enjoyed the same progress and development but for Zik's decision to pitch tent with the Hausas thereby SELLING THE COMING IBO GENERATIONS "BIRTHRIGHT". It is a shame that most easterners of Ibo estraction in their mid 30s can not read and write.can not express themselves in pure english.I still cant believe that Zik will allow his people to be forced to pay for education and those that can not pay are thrown out or simply stayed out of classrooms. Most Ibos simply just stayed out of classrooms and the result is evident in todays high % of illiterates amongst Ibos within 25-40 age bracket.Trading became a succour and they went into it with full vigour.selling Okrika, spare parts, food stuffs, electronics, etc will only keep ones head above waters when other region especially west and of late North are producing engineers, doctors, etc who are potential national and world leaders. Most Ibos of thought knew that ZIk did them more arm(in that regard) than good. Awolowo was right when he said the Western region can stay on its own without East or North. He achieved his greatest with proceeds from cocoa. He channeled his procceeds to the actualisation of his vision because he knew that education is light. Awolowo,Zik,sardauna,Ahamadu Bello are all national heroes and should be treated as such. But amongst all,Awolowo stands tall because of his vision and that vision still inspires todays politicians notably Governor fashola Of Lagos state.,Suswam of Gombe(who enjoyed free duaction too)amongst others. |
Aondoakaaaa is a THIEF.We all know that, He will be used, dumped and neglected by the Govt of the day just like people before him.He shold ask nasr El-Rufai,Nuhu Ribadu, etc |
The writer(Joe Igbokwe) is the Publicity Sec. Of AC In lagos state. The whites mostly developed their arrears of settlements and left the shanty towns unattended to. ArreaRS DEVELOPED were to European standard with all the amenities in place. It is a known fact that if the whites have dsicovered oil in Nigeria, they would have stayed longer than 1960 and it would have been in Nigeria's interest. Joe Igbokwe's outburst is a reflection of our snail-pace development angered by the attitude of Nigeria's leadership towards the masses. The little developmwnt the British did in Nigeria was when we had only Palm Kernel,Cocoa,Rubber and Groundnut. It would have been a new level if they can explore and export oil from our land.Nigeria would have been way ahead of South Africa. |
AfroCynic: blacksta:Thats really unfair, Nigerians arent that bad, |
Because i am shocked by the "Soludo re-branding" going on.I was mutified to read in some nigerian dailies abut Soludo's achievements and why he is exactly what Anambra needs right now. I mean, , are we sane in that country? The editorial board of Vanguard, what the f****k are they doing? |
