Hi there, I'm a Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook & VBA guru. Truth is I make Microsoft Office sing and dance. I can show you how to make a dynamic monthly Excel Budget sheet. I can show you how to automate reports in Excel. I can show you how to link PowerPoint charts to Excel and have them automatically update when you update the chart table in Excel. That way you can send personalized mail to over 200 people (your accounts or clients) with just a click, and they will believe you typed it out one by one. I can show you how to make professional PowerPoint presentations. I can show you how to set up Outlook for any account. In fact, I have my yahoo mail, gmail, custom domain mail & work mail configured on outlook. I never miss an important mail. I can show you how to setup a Rule in Outlook, so you can have mails from all the important people (your boss, big clients...) in one folder, then have all annoying system scheduled mails moved to another folder. I can show you how to overcome company mailbox size limitations, so you won't have to delete mails anymore to make space for new mails. It's called Auto-archive. I can show you how to include tables and charts in the body of your mail, so no one will be able to say they didn't see the table/chart. No need for unnecessary file attachments. I can show you how to make complex reports in Excel. I can show you how to make advanced charts in Excel. The kind of charts investment analysts make. I can show you how to do magic with Pivot table. Best of all, I can help you out of any Excel, Outlook, Word or PowerPoint mess you find yourself in. All you have to do is - ASK. And why am I doing this for free? Helping people online with the MS Office issues is one of the major criteria for Micosoft to award me the coveted Excel MVP award. Now you can add an extra layer of security to your twitter account login process, to prevent anyone from hacking your account. Once you enable this added security, anytime you are logging in from a new device (computer, phone, tablet, or browser), you will be prompted to provide a verification code that will be sent to your phone. This way its (nearly) impossible for your twitter account to be hacked. (To see the more elaborate how-to with lots of screenshots, visit http://www.olafusimichael.com/2013/05/twitter-helps-prevent-your-account-from.html ) So below is the how-to - Log in to your twitter account, and go to Settings Scroll down to Account Security You'll need to add your phone, so click on add a phone Then you'll fill your country/region (Nigeria), phone number and network carrier (MTN, Etisalat, Glo, Airtel) You'll see a screen asking you to send GO to 40404 from the phone you entered. Do that and voila, your phone has been linked to you account. Just one more step. By default, twitter sets it that you'll be getting sms alerts for nearly everything that involves your twitter account besides the tweets you post. And that is crazy annoying. I'll recommend you deselect them all. Now, it's done. Try logging in from a new browser, now your Internet Explorer might be useful. You should get a login verification notice. |

Nairaland is no doubt the biggest forum in its niche (worldwide). And it has invested a lot of money, creativity and human efforts to get there. All the same, I have used forums, forums with as much or more members. It's only Nairaland I know that tells you to wait for another week to make a new post. Imagine google telling you to wait for an entire day to do another search, just because it doesn't like your search history or trying to avoid congestion. The main reason lots of people abandoned yahoo for google was ease of use. To spend more time creating value than trying to overcome unintuitive restrictions. We, nairalanders, are the ones who create all the content on nairaland that makes it rank amongst top sites in Nigeria, that provides the search traffic from google, and that ultimately makes the owner money$$. I think it's fair if the admin and moderators spend more creative moments on making the site more user friendly and not churning out rules upon rules that only aim at making them look big and the users small. We are all sensible people, some of the best minds and rational people not only in Nigeria but in the world. |

We all know some people whose thinking is obviously warped. Think of all the reasonable actions/decisions to take in any situation, and you’re sure they will not take any of them. Think of all the stupid things anyone can do, write them on a sheet of paper and number the sheet “Page 3”. Because, what they will do will be more ridiculous than what you have on that sheet. Whenever you take a very stupid decision, you feel relieved when you think of them. So fellow distinguished Nairalander, tell us - What is the most stupid thing you've seen anyone do? |
After reading lots of books on Personal finance and Investment, I decided to put my vast knowledge to work. I currently work at a job I love but which leaves me with little money at month-end. I daily take a record of all my expenses; I know where every single kobo of my salary goes. I know exactly how much I spend in a month. The following are the Personal Finance measures I implemented – 1. Pay myself first Since 2011, I set up a direct debit order in my salary account to transfer a certain amount of money every month to a Mutual fund account. Now I plan setting up two others to transfer some cash monthly to my Brokerage account and quarterly to my Fixed Income fund account. 2. Have an Emergency fund I currently have my three months living expense stashed away in a High Yield savings account. I have lost my job once and resigned from another too. In both situations, I encountered numerous unplanned expenses and ended up spending a lot. Having an emergency fund can greatly help to tackle unforeseen emergencies. I never touch it unless there is an emergency, and I replenish it as soon as I can. 3. NSD, LSD and HSD Increase your No Spending Days, never reduce your Low Spending Days and reduce your High Spending Days in a month. I try to achieve this by staying home on most holidays to increase my NSD, cut-back on unnecessary daily expense like chewing gums and in between meal snacks to increase my LSD, and I only buy necessities to reduce my HSD. Recently, my Sony VAIO laptop motherboard went bad and I couldn’t find a replacement. Rather than buy a new laptop, I bought a similar but dead Sony VAIO laptop and replaced the bad parts with the ones in mine that fitted and bought the other parts that needed fixing. I ended up with another Sony VAIO that cost a fraction of the new one. Anything I could do without for a month, doesn’t make it to my list. For instance, a new suit, iPad, another wrist watch and movies. 4. 70 – 30 investment rule Since, I’m investing for the long term (over 30 years horizon), I put 70% of my investment cash in stocks and 30% in Fixed Income and bonds. As a small investor, I rely on fixed income fund. But I follow the stock market like a true Chelsea FC fan follows his club, I know nearly all the important figures and trends. I research stocks, burrow through financial statements from 7 years back and make some crazy financial calculations. I manage my own brokerage account without any professional help, I buy stocks of companies I’m convinced (after my calculations) will grow at over 15% year-on-year and sell the ones I believe have derailed (regardless of their stock price movement). Result: Though, at first, I lost money after money, I have recouped all my loses and have found an investment style that works great (so far). 5. Delay my big expenses I don’t plan buying a car anytime soon. 6. Create multiple income streams Though, I currently make money from my investments, I still run 3 monetized blogs and a part-time consultancy. Currently, my blog is yet to generate a profit and my consultancy biz is still in its infancy, but I know that with more time and effort invested I will be able to cover my living expenses from their earnings. 7. I’m my biggest asset The premium on skills (hard and soft) is huge. That is why our parents make us start school as early as possible, knowing that one day someone will be willing to give us a fat pay slip just... http://www.olafusimichael.com/2013/02/working-my-way-to-wealth.html |
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Thursday called for the establishment of a Special Electoral Commission with special jurisdiction to try electoral offenders. Mr Mike Igini, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Cross River, made the call while parading three Ad hoc staff, who allegedly falsified election results in the Feb 25, governorship election in the state. Igini accused the judiciary of frustrating efforts of the commission in prosecuting electoral offenders. According to him, the problem of the commission was not that it did not have sufficient political will to handle problems but because, the judiciary had not lived up to expectation. He said that the judiciary delayed cases that were brought before the court and most times used technicalities to strike out cases. Igini said the three persons were arrested over alleged falsification of election results in Etung Local Government Area of Cross River. The suspects were two presiding officers and an assistant presiding officer and have been handed over to the security operatives for investigation. “It is unfortunate... |
Explosion yesterday rocked the Administrative block of the Gombe State University, Gombe prompting a colossal destruction of both the building and many valuable items in the building. The block also houses the Senate, Council Chambers as well as the office of the Vice Chancellor of the University. According to sources from the University, the incident occurred at about 8:30, Thursday night when workers and staff had closed and left office. Though there were no human casualties, the items in the office which included chairs, tables and sensitive documents were burnt by the fire that ensued in the explosion. Some students of the University who spoke to Vanguard said sporadic gunshots around the senate building and the second gate of the University preceded the explosion. The incident caused unusual panic and resulted to an immediate mass exodus of the many students who fled the school on the heels of the explosion. A fleeing female remedial student who craved for anonymity told this reporter that running home for safety in the company of other students that night was not easy as they took a great risky flagging down a vehicle whose driver they did not know to take them home. The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Abdualhi Mahdi responding to a question from Vanguard said that “there is nothing that I know about it. Just as you are seeing it, is the way I saw it too. It happened... |

THE last is yet to be heard of the pension scam in the Head of Service of the Federation (HoSF). The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which has gone tough on the masterminds, says it has unearthed the payment of N2.5 billion to individuals and companies, which acted as fronts for officials of the pension unit. From its fresh investigations, the EFCC listed four fictitious companies, a businessman, banks and more pension officials who were involved in the scandal. The fraudsters also included an accountant and a senior officer in the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF). The Guardian learnt that a former head of accounts in the pension unit, who was one of the signatories to the funds, helped the cartel to steal N131.43 million through five of his accounts with different banks. A search conducted by EFCC’s operatives on the house of the suspect (now on the commission’s bail) at Kado Estate in Abuja on January 13, 2011 allegedly led to the recovering a computer with several payment mandates put at N2.5 billion. The amount, the EFCC said was... |
A 64-year-old man, Steven Sajewo, has appeared before an Ilorin Chief Magistrates’ court presided over by Mr. Lekan Adegbite for allegedly raping a yam hawker. Sajewo, a retired broadcaster, was charged on one count-charge of rape, which contravened Section 283 of the Penal Code. He was alleged to have lured the 16-year-old girl to his residence at Oja Iya area of Ilorin, Kwara State, and forcibly had carnal knowledge of her. According to the charge sheet obtained by our correspondent on Tuesday, neigbours got wind of the incident as the girl kept on screaming. The neighbours were said to have alerted the police who promptly arrested the accused. The Prosecutor, Mr. Moshood Adebayo, objected to the bail application of Sajewo, saying the offence was a non-bailable one. He stated... |
Amnesty International and the Centre for Environment, Human Rights and Development have disputed Shell’s assessment of the 2008 Bodo oil spill in Niger Delta, saying it was far worse than the company had previously admitted. An independent assessment obtained by the groups showed that the spill was worse than what was reported by the oil company. Shell’s report on the spill that resulted from a faulty pipeline in Bodo, a town of 69,000 people, claimed that only 1,640 barrels of oil were spilt in total during the period. But in a statement on Monday, Amnesty International said the figure was contrary to an unpublished assessment report conducted by a US firm, Accufacts Inc, which stated that the total amount of oil spill within a 72-day period was between 103,000 barrels and 311,000 barrels. “The difference is staggering. Even using... |
Ahead of the debate on the oil subsidy report holding on Tuesday (today), the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Aminu Tambuwal, on Monday, said that he was not bothered by threats of impeachment over the probe. The report, which was submitted to the House last Tuesday, elicited public outrage, because it uncovered a N1.7tn fraud in the fuel subsidy fund. A national newspaper (not The PUNCH), on Sunday, reported that some oil firms and government officials were plotting to sponsor Tambuwal’s impeachment because he and other principal officers of the House refused to influence the report of the House committee which uncovered fraud in the management of the fuel subsidy. Tambuwal, who spoke in Abuja... |

@femi It seems you are victim of substandard/fake USB flash monger. Well it has happened to me twice and the only way to use the flash is to save very light data on it (like 12MB on a 512MB flash). But the best option is buy a new one preferably LG from LG office that way you will surely get an original flash and cheap also. |
