We have set another record - it's about to enter the book of the greatest idiots of the century, how can a CJN say he forgot to declare his assets, from info we heard $900,000- while honest civil servants like my mother in the days when she was a civil servant started when she was promoted to level 12- till she reached 15 and she always made it a point to declare her assets - but a whole justice forgot- if it was me or any other nigerian - the same justice would sit and preside over this kind of offense leveled against me/us bah? - assuming I were a civil servant as if the law is selective meant for some and not meant for others - let's even assume, it goes through the due process all of them have been clamouring for, it would first be submitted to his office- would he be a judge in his own case? Secondly the judges that make up the NJC isn't it possible they maybe, all loyal to the CJN because he appointed them or approved the confirmations of a few offices. The apart it is certain the true reflection of the case, would be lost in translation - just like they are doing- a simple straight case admitted to by the same CJN is now being turned into a political and ethnic hounding
PoliticsRe: PDP Sets Agenda For Acting Inspector General Of Police, Adamu Mohammed by olajide8(m): 10:13pm On Jan 15, 2019
Crimecity:
The People's Democratic Party have reacted to the appointment of Adamu Mohammed as the New Inspector General of Police.

In a statement on it's official handle, the PDP urged for an immediate re-engineering of the Nigerian Police.

Read the statement below..

The PDP charges the acting Inspector General of Nigerian Police, Adamu Mohammed, to immediately commence the re-engineering of the Nigeria Police to restore professionalism and adherence to rules of engagement in the Force.

The party berates the outgoing IGP Ibrahim Idris, for a shameful and partisan tenure, which destroyed professionalism in the Nigerian Police & compromised the lives & security of Nigerians, adding that he must be held accountable for all the atrocities he committed while in office.

Ibrahim Idris will be remembered as the only IGP in our political history, who surrendered the responsibilities of his exalted office to the whims and caprices of politicians who share courtesies with the Buhari Presidency.

Former IGP, Ibrahim Idris defied the need to secure troubled areas and watched carelessly while an integral part of our nation was engulfed in bloody clashes.

Idris will also be remembered as that Nigerian Police Officer, who had a penchant for framing innocent Nigerians with ridiculous allegations. Throughout his inglorious tenure, he functioned as the commander of the militant wing of the APC, just to retain his office.

The PDP therefore urges the new Police boss to learn a lesson from the shameful end of Idris as IGP by immediately setting up the process of re-orientating & insulating the Force from partisan politics, while subjecting it to the tenets of democracy &the rule of law.

The PDP urges the Nigerian Police chief to avoid the pitfalls of the last IGP, who has gone down in history as the most corrupt, devious and reckless police officer to hold the post of the IGP in Nigeria.

The party further advices the new police boss to remove all templates of election rigging contained in the hand-over note that will be presented to him by Idris Ibrahim.

The new IGP must also urgently take steps to address the bastardization of promotion in the Nigerian Police under the last IGP, where officers due for promotion were denied and only those endorsed by a cabal or who have enough money to buy their way through were promoted.

PoliticsRe: You’ve No Powers To Try Me At CCT - Onnoghen Tells Federal Government by olajide8(m):
Tundemuttee:
The Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Walter Onnoghen, on Monday, challenged the jurisdiction of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, sitting in Abuja, to try him over his alleged failure to declare his assets.

The CJN, who stalled his planned arraignment following his refusal to appear before the Justice Danladi Umar’s led three-member panel tribunal, was however represented by a consortium of 89 lawyers that comprised of 46 Senior Advocates of Nigeria.

The legal team, which was led by a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Chief Wole Olanipekun, SAN, and a former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Kanu Agabi, SAN, told the tribunal that their appearance at the proceeding was “in protest.”

Olanipekun told the tribunal that the CJN has already filed a motion dated January 14, to challenge the jurisdiction of the tribunal to hear the charges FG levelled against him.

“My lord, we are not just challenging jurisdiction, we are even challenging the jurisdiction of this tribunal to even sniff that charge. We have served the Complainant/Respondent”, Olanipekun submitted.

Though the said motion was not moved, nevertheless, a member of the team who spoke to Vanguard on condition of anonymity, said the CJN would capitalise on FG’s failure to channel the petition against him, as well as the outcome of the investigation that was purportedly conducted on his assets declaration forms by the Code of Conduct Bureau, CCB, to the National Judicial Council, NJC, before it rushed the case to the CCT.

The CJN is contending that FG’s failure to abide by existing judicial precedent as encapsulated in a recent Appeal Court’s decision in Nganjiwa v Federal Republic of Nigeria (2017) LPELR-43391(CA), to the effect that any misconduct attached to the office and functions of a judicial officer, must first be reported to and handled by the NJC, pursuant to the provisions of the laws.

He argued that only after the NJC has pronounced against such judicial officer could prosecuting agencies of the Federal Government proceed to initiate a criminal proceeding.

Consequently, placing reliance on a recent decision of the CCT on a similar charge FG lodged against another Justice of the Supreme Court, Sylvester Ngwuta, the CJN’s legal team, maintained that FG’s decision to sideline the NJC, stripped the tribunal of its jurisdiction to entertain the instant case.

#lacuna# don't worry - in your retirement they would try you - any president that wins would try you- nigerians are a special breed, I can't phantom were we came from - if I were caught and arrested ignorantly- the law would judge me harshly - but since the person at fault now is the law himself - he is above it and the offense is politically motivated - even when he has admitted to it- this is why a revolution would never work in this country- spare our thieves and kill your thieves, to justify this - they would make references to babachir lawal, shittu etc- they have forgotten that it must start from one place- they would then turn around and say why didn't you start from your own party members? CrimeRe: Man Commits Suicide By Hanging In Lagos (Photo) by olajide8(m): 3:29pm On Jan 12, 2019
Magichand:
An unidentified middle-aged man was in the early hours of Saturday found hanging from a tree on Catholic Mission Road, opposite the Court of Appeal in Lagos Island.

The man, clad in Ankara native attire, was found hanging on a rope which looked like a braided long scarf, tied to a fruit tree.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) correspondent, who was at the scene of the suspected suicide, reports that the episode drew the attention of a mammoth crowd who stood in groups chatting and wondering what could have pushed the man to hang himself.

Policemen at the scene of the incident confirmed the happening, but told NAN that they were not allowed to comment on the issue yet until proper investigation was carried out.

They said they would not loosen the noose around the man’s neck or search his pockets for identification purposes until doctors arrived to confirm him officially dead.

Some of the people, who had gathered at the scene, busied themselves taking pictures, but no one could identify the man hanging from the tree.

Mr Ige Adedoja, a resident of the area, who was at the scene of the incident, said that traditional rites needed to be performed before anyone could loosen the noose from the man’s neck.

He said that he met many people at the scene and that no-one but doctors could confirm the actual time of death.

The man was still hanging as at press time.

This is what happens when we embrace foreign culture in totality - in those days of old, when a man commits suicide or a woman commits suicide - nobody would marry anybody in the man or woman's family- because they would believe, the curse is still within their family nuclear and extended- but nowadays, just grab a rope look for a place that is a bit higher then where their feet can touch and gbam - it's finished, too many bridges - they can also just jump into the lagoon - we should go back to the earlier centuries - turn everyone in their family into a parrier (if the word exists)

Indeed, these two young men are moneyed men.

One is American, the other is Nigerian.

One of them is the 33-year old co-founder and CEO of Facebook Inc. The other is a 38 year that superintends over a conglomerate of several companies in Nigeria.

One is Forbes-rated. The 2018 ranking put his worth at $71 Billion dollars. That mount is more than the combined national income of several African Nations. This ranking also placed him as the the fifth-richest person in the world.

Interestingly, Forbes does not recognize the other personality.

That notwithstanding, these two men are lovers and collectors of different car brands.

Highlighted below are some cars in the car collection of both Emeka Okonkwo aka “E-Money” and Mark Zuckerberg.

PoliticsRe: Just In: Buhari Orders Prosecution Of Pinnick Over NFF Multi-billion Alleged Fra by olajide8(m): 4:33pm On Jan 05, 2019
omohayek:
All this report shows is that Nigeria completely lacks any semblance of judicial independence. It should not be in the power of the President - any President, not just Buhari - to "order" a branch of the government to prosecute (or refrain from prosecuting) anybody whatsoever. There is a manifest conflict of interest there which any properly functioning system of governance will bend over backwards to avoid.

The violation of this very principle of keeping the legal system at arm's length from the presidency is why US President Richard Nixon had to resign from office before being impeached (after the Saturday Night Massacre when he tried to stop the Watergate investigation), it is the reason why former Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself from anything to do with investigating Russian interference in the 2016 election, and it is the exact same reason why US Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein appointed Robert Mueller as Special Counsel to investigate Trump - the sitting President of the United States - for obstruction of justice after Trump fired FBI chief Jim Comey. None of this would have been possible in a banana republic like Nigeria, where it's up to the President to decide who gets prioritized for investigation and who doesn't.

While I'm not singling out Buhari for blame here - the structural issues at work were already in place well before he came to office - what I do blame him for (as well as those who criticize him) is his inability to see that the problem with corruption of justice in Nigeria is a systemic one: it's not enough for Buhari's haters to claim he is the devil while GEJ was (allegedly) a Nigerian Nelson Mandela if they can't see that the problem is his having any discretion or influence over the legal process at all. Similarly, no number of prosecutions or EFCC investigations under Buhari will ever make a difference in the long run if the decision to investigate and/or prosecute remains so highly politicized. The only lesson the investigated and prosecuted will learn under such a system is that they better make sure not to lose any future elections, even if that requires massive rigging and voter intimidation.

In short, all of you who have responded to this story so far have missed the wood for the trees: an even bigger scandal than that involving the NFF is how a President has any say at all in the legal process around the purported fraud.
Nice examples but you are wrong - the nff board is the only thing that is elected, the other structures from director of administration to other offices/officers all fall under the purview of the federal civil service- what this means is apart from the board members, most of the daily running and staff, are all civil servants
2. Nff do not have a separate account or an account which is different from the Nigerian govt, that's why when you want to pay for certain things associated with nff - you have to pay using remita - you can just Google remita and try it
3. The person that signs for money from the cbn account being a civil servant has implicated the elective board
finally, the difference between the nff board and a governor is separation of powers- federal is federal - state is state- nff is a agency created by the act of parliament, under the federal structure - thou they are supposed to be independent in their activities (very complex nonsense bah?)

President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the prosecution of the President of the Nigerian Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick, over an alleged multi-billion scam in the organisation.

It was also learnt that the Federal Government through the Presidential investigative panel headed by Mr. Okoi Obono-Obla, had placed Pinnick on travel ban.

Our correspondent gathered on Saturday that Buhari gave the order for Pinnick’s prosecution when the Obono-Obla presented a preliminary investigation report to him.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission also addressed a report on the NFF to Mr President detailing the outcome of their investigations which tallied with what Obono-Obla’s panel had submitted to the President.

EFCC Chairman, Ibrahim Magu had in his six-page report informed Buhari that the anti-graft agency had investigated and prosecuted the Director, Finance and Administration, Christopher Andekin; Head, Finance and Administration, NFF, Jafaru Mamzah and a cashier with the Finance and Administration department of the NFF, Rajan Zaka over an alleged financial scam in the football governing house in connection
with financial payments from Federation of International Football Associations and Confederation of African Football to NFF between 2014 and 2016.

But Buhari who was said to have been visibly angry over the alleged monumental scam ordered Pinnick to also be prosecuted. He directed Magu to embark on a wider investigation into the remittances to the
NFF between 2017 and 2018.

The president, who was reportedly shocked by the mind-boggling report and additional revelations directed Magu to ensure a comprehensive and discreet investigation with watertight and unassailable facts and
pieces of evidence that would nail the suspects at the court.

According to the EFCC preliminary report sighted by our correspondent, EFCC stated that it commenced full investigation into the finances of the NFF where it discovered that the domiciliary accounts of the NFF domiciled with Zenith Bank and UBA had received total inflow of $16,417,761 from FIFA and CAF between January, 2014 and June, 2016 as follows:

1. 18/12/2014 Zenith Bank, Ac No: 5070407456, $8,400,000 (FIFA); 23/01/2015, Zenith Bank, Ac No: 5070407456, $450,000 (FIFA); 25/03/2015, Zenith Bank, Ac No: 5070407456, $1,081,000 (CAF); 13/10/2015 Zenith Bank, Ac No: 5070407456, $3000 (CAF); 12/01/2014, UBA, Ac No: 3000004944, $1,500,000 (FIFA); 15/01/2014 UBA, Ac No: 3000004944, $1,746,745 (CAF); 19/03/2014 UBA, Ac No: 3000004944, $249,950 (CAF); 12/12/2014 UBA, Ac No: 3000004944, $301,467 (FIFA);14/05/2015 UBA, Ac No: 3000004944, $30,000 (FIFA); 31/07/2015 UBA, Ac

Ac No: 3000004944, $2,990 (CAF); 12/02/2016, UBA, Ac No: 3000004944, $79,540 (FIFA); 15/03/2016, UBA, Ac No: 3000004944, $299,000, (CAF); 22/06/2016 UBA, Ac No: 3000004944, $9,930 (CAF).

Magu in the report also informed Buhari that investigation into the case had been concluded. He added that Christopher Andekin; Head, Finance and Administration, NFF, Jafaru Mamzah and a cashier with the Finance and Administration department of NFF, Rajan Zaka were indicted and arraigned on October 15, 2018 before Justice P.O. Affem of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, No 19 Maitama Abuja on five criminal charges of conspiracy and criminal breach of trust by a public officer.

The EFCC’s boss further informed Buhari that the commission also received another petition dated April 24, 2016 captioned ‘Monumental stealing and financial crisis in the Nigeria Football Federation’, from James Peters of Amal Pepple Estate, Abuja.

He stated that in the course of investigation, the Minister (Sports) forwarded to the commission, documents in support of the petition revealing sponsorship deals amounting to N1.14bn and $1.55m via his letter No. HMY &SP/003/2018/55 dates August 7, 2018.

Magu said, “Investigation into this petition has so far established that the NFF has sponsorship deals with 21 corporate organisation. The investigation further revealed that between 2008 and 2018, 11 out of the 21 corporate organisations made sponsorship payment of N5,288,990,000 and $1,550,000 to NFF as against the amounted stated in the ministers’ letter under reference above.

“One of the companies appointed as financial consultant to the NFF is owned by the 2nd Vice President of the NFF in person of Alhaji Shehu Dikko. The audit trail of the funds and its utilisation is currently ongoing with a view to prosecuting anyone found culpable of any offence.”

PoliticsRe: Lagos-Ibadan Railway: Rotimi Ameachi Visits Site, Expresses Disappointment - Pic by olajide8(m): 9:12am On Jan 05, 2019
AutoReportNG:
In a bid to ensure smooth delivery and also to keep track of the day to day activity of the Lagos-Ibadan Railway, the minister of transportation, RT. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi was at the site of the Lagos-Ibadan Railway Site. The location is unknown but it seems to be within Ogun State and somewhere around Iju in Lagos.

With the way things are going, it will take a miracle for this project to be delivered in February as instructed by the minister as there are still lots to be done. Take Lagos for example, we can report that only 20% of the project has been covered as even the head office in Ebute Metta is still undergoing clearing. According to Tribune Newspapers, the minister was quoted to said, "I am not impressed. There is nothing new. The pace is as if nothing happened.”

However, the contractor revealed that some of the equipment to fast-track the project were offshore, which the minister urged them to up their ante.

“There are mixed feelings in the sense that getting to Abeokuta, you will see that there is an improvement. The problem they have now is the civil works between Agbado and Iju, which is critical to me. The closer we are to Lagos, the better for the project. That is what we are battling here.

“The equipment we are talking of are not off the shelve equipment. Getting more hands is not the problem but getting the equipment for more hands to use is the problem. What we saw from Agbado to Iju is not a matter of more hands, its a matter of equipment. These are equipment you apply for from overseas and they ship it down. So if the equipment arrives, probably they will finish the job.
It will be recalled that The Lagos Ibadan Railway project was fully funded by the Chinese Government and there are expected to deliver before mid-2019.

These are some of the pictures from the inspection.

PoliticsRe: I Will Establish National Guard To Solve Insecurity Problem Says Olawepo-hashim by olajide8(m): 1:28pm On Jan 01, 2019

Insecurity: I will Establish National Guard, Says Olawepo-Hashim

Mr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, the presidential candidate of People’s Trust (PT) in 2019 election, has announced his plan to establish National Guard to contain internal security threats if elected President of Nigeria.

Speaking in an interview at the weekend, Mr. Olawepo Hashim chided the APC government for failing to contain internal security breaches, promising that he would overhaul the security architecture to make Nigeria a safer place for all.

Olawepo-Hashim said, “Security is not just a question of spending bigger budgets; it is about having the right structures and strategies. As it is, the Armed Forces of the Federation is over-stressed and distracted by deployments for internal security operations.

“I think it is time for Nigeria to have a National Guard. I’m going to put up a National Guard as a President of Nigeria. My reasons and justifications are self-evident. Our internal security questions have graduated to the level of insurrection. We are now having well-trained militias, perhaps having more training than the police but probably, you may not need full scale military action to handle them.

“That is what a National Guard job is, an intermediate force between the regular armed forces and the police. Nigeria needs a well-trained intermediate force that is going to act between the Army and the police, which is the National Guard.

“We don’t need to expose the regular army trained mainly in the art of war. The military is meant to focus on defending the territorial integrity of the nation. The National Guard is for deployment to prevent or quell internal conflict and eruptions beyond the capacity of the police service. The idea of deploying military for internal security assignment is an abnormality which I will correct as a President,” he pledged.

Lamenting the growing lawlessness in the country, Olawepo -Hashim said what encouraged the ongoing rascality and bloodletting was that “people are not promptly punished when they murder other people.”

He said, “Government issued long statements, giving excuses, telling us why some people were killed. That’s not what we should be hearing from law enforcement officers. When people commit crimes, they need to be punished promptly. And as you make example of a few people, it acts as deterrent to others,” he emphasised.

Justifying his plans to create National Guard as part of general overhauling of national security apparatus, the PT candidate observed that the life of ordinary Nigerians has become so cheap even as murderers and arsonists go mostly unpunished.

He pledged, “From day one, we would act decisively so that people would know there is a new Sheriff in town.
“Under us, every Nigerian would be assured that his life really counts, and that there are no special Nigerians who have licence to kill other Nigerians. Now, that’s the first thing. We need to change the psychological environment and people know that you have to be careful.”

PoliticsRe: Shehu Shagari: PDP Slams Buhari, Osinbajo Over Absence At Ex-president’s Burial by olajide8(m): 10:21am On Jan 01, 2019
13Ebiscoo:
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned President Muhammadu Buhari’s absence at the burial of former President of Nigeria, Alhaji Shehu Shagari, last weekend.

The party said the President’s absence at the funeral, particularly regarding Alhaji Shehu Shagari’s status, as the first Executive President of the nation, was unpardonable and a very wrong precedence in the national protocol.

PDP Presidential Campaign Organization, in a statement on Monday by its Director, Media & Publicity, Kola Ologbondiyan, said, “this action by the Buhari Presidency has also sent a wrong signal to the international community on our national values and respect for our patriots.”

PDP also noted that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo was also absent at President Shehu Shagari’s burial and that the federal government has taken no concrete step to give a state honour to “this very patriotic Nigerian, other than a rather belated directive to fly our national flag at half-mast for just three days and a dramatic visit to Sokoto by President Buhari.

“Sadly, while our beloved President Shagari was at the National Hospital Abuja, passing through his last moments on this realm, President Buhari was busy at his campaign rally in Uyo, Akwa-Ibom State, boasting of how he, as military head of state, sacked the Second Republic, arrested and locked up President Shehu Shagari and his officials, in clear violation of our nation’s constitution.

“Such disdain on our respected national figure by President Buhari is completely unpresidential.”

PoliticsRe: Ezekwesili Reacts To Killing Of 70 Soldiers In Baga by olajide8(m): 5:29pm On Dec 31, 2018
11Ebiscoo:
The presidential candidate of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria, ACPN, Dr. Obiageli Ezekwesili, has expressed concern over reports that 70 Nigerian soldiers were killed in Baga by Boko Haram terrorists.

Ezekwesili bemoaned the reported killings of military personnel while calling for an independent verification.

In a statement made available to DAILY POST on Monday, the former Education minister pointed out that ‘Nigeria desperately needs effective leadership’.

The news reports also alleged that over 2,000 of the country’s soldiers are missing.

Ezekwesili’s statement reads, “Although the military and the Presidency have denied the reports, but the serial credibility challenges of the Buhari administration and the security team he leads as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces have created public distrust of any rebuttal by government. And that is gravely worrisome.

“The only way to ensure accuracy of the casualty that Nigeria is suffering as a result of counter-terrorism at this stage is to inaugurate a citizens-led independent investigation panel.

“Such an initiative would go a long way to eliminate the opaqueness of the counter-terrorism war and restore public confidence, as the case may be, in how the Buhari administration is prosecuting it.”

The ACPN presidential candidate also frowned at the consistent killings in Zamfara State recently, saying that the once most peaceful state of the North West region has been turned into a theatre of terrorism.

According to her, the security situation in the country shows a lack of effective leadership by President Muhammadu Buhari.

She added, “This is demonstrated in the very troubling inertia to decisively confront and end the frequent killings of our citizens; especially our soldiers on the frontline of battle.

“The killings have tragically earned Nigeria the designation of the 16th most dangerous country in the world, according to the Global Peace Index. Nigeria is also the 15th most fragile country in the 2018 Fragile States Index by the United States Fund for Peace.”

Ezekwesili stated that the constitutional mandate of the government to ensure the security of lives and property of all Nigerians had been poorly handled, especially within the last decade.

She continued, “Tackling this will require commencing a security discourse and planning away from a narrow focus on military responses, to a more collective and participative conversation of the structure of the Nigerian state and our security architecture. Our ACPN administration would without fail
prioritise this.

“We would be responsive to current and immediate challenges by revising the current containment measures to ensure efficiency, include effective public communication on security issues without compromising genuine national security concerns.

“We would also bring citizens in as participants in their own security, through the establishment of local peace committees as part of the national security architecture.

“Within days of being inaugurated into office, our ACPN administration would move swiftly to launch a coordinated response to all acts of violence in regions that are vulnerable to attacks from armed groups and concurrently commence a strong security sector reform for professionalism, accountability and results-focus.”

As much as I admire and like oby- she would have been a better position as senate president - it's not easy to issue orders to the military especially when people's lives are involved- "those that signed their life off, for the corporate co-existence of nigeria" hire them and fire them because of issues and at the end of the day - we would not have a single military officer with experience remaining, and I can beat my chest that there would be a mutiny within the army because officer believe their commanders are collecting monies and not paying them their allowances, and possibly anything can happen, coup comes to mind.
Challenges are in our procurement procedures- which the Nass is supposed to attend too, and we need a strong figure like her to go and sanitize that place and help us check those in executive office/ceo's of MDA's

An outrage has been sparked online following the assault of a young man by students of the Nigerian Defence Academy.

In a trending video making the rounds online, the young cadets can be seen assaulting the man with some serious slaps after his clothes were removed. They also took delight in filming the assault and posting it online.

The reason for the assault and public humiliation on the victim was not revealed as at the time of filing this report. .

However, Nigerians who have been outraged by the callous footage - have called on the army authorities to bring the cadets who partook in the act to justice and also look for a way to prevent rascality among its students.

If people are in their lane these type of things would never happen- these are men trained or being trained to kill- they would be heading to the north east, and other hot area's and you go and offend them and throw up sentiments - that they are beating a civilian - wetin the civilian go find for them area?

Bros, Baga is a border town between Nigeria and other countries. That's why they have a MNJTF (multinational joint task force). Boko haram now ISWAP can come in from bothering countries to attack and leave if they succeed or not. That's is what is referred to as gorilla attack. Hit and Run.

After the attack of about a month ago were more than 30 soldiers (I'm using more than, because I'm not sure) were lost, PMB had to visit Chad because they had their own part to play in those border town but withdrew their troops causing a huge loophole for ISWAP to attack our troops.

Zainab Ahmed, minister of finance, says owners of yachts and private jets will begin paying luxury items from 2019.

Addressing a press conference in Abuja on Monday, the minister said excise duties would be introduced in some areas while taxes would be reduced for small and medium enterprises.

“We are exploring the way to increase taxes as well as reduce taxes in some sectors. For Small and Medium Enterprises, what will happen is to reduce taxes. But there are some special taxes that we will be looking at imposing,” she said.

“For example, luxury taxes. If you have a private jet, we will be taxing you specially for that. If you have a yacht, we will be charging you for that and also in terms of excise duties, there are also some new areas where excise duties will be introduced.

“We haven’t got all the approvals but one of the major areas might be that of carbonated drinks produced in the country.”

According to Ahmed, the Whistleblower Unit has recovered over N8.5 billion and $465 million among others from the 1,051 investigations conducted from tips received.

“Based on verification outcome by the Presidential Initiative on Continuous Audit (PICA), we have also paid over 2,000 former workers of our defunct national carrier- Nigeria Airways Limited,” she said.

Patience Oniha, director general of the Debt Management Office; Mary Uduk, acting director general of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Babatunde Fowler, executive chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) were also present at the briefing to give an account of the activities of their agencies.
