the truth is that the polygraph test is not even admissible in western courts simply because it is less than 80% accurate. secondly, during this testing, we have seen innocent ppl were caught all because they lied for the wrong reasons. thirdly, fear has tripped this polygraph tests. fourthly, some ppl are so skilled in the act of even deceiving the machine. hence a much more reliable machine is being built. however, lamorde cant succeed in revamping efcc if he goes ahead with his determination to kick them out rather he base the polygraph results to assign sensitive assignments. only those who repeatedly pass the tests on five different occasions and those who fail likewise can be sack. that way u have achieved more than 400% accuracy. take heed, mr lamorde. |
the truth is that such type of unguarded statement is not good enough to be uttered by a commander publicly. if any soldier commited wholesame massacres, would he be free for having directly called for such publicly. i am very embarrassed when fellow tried to defend this indefensible statements by comparing it to worse battles. i understand military officers are naturally gentlemen, cultured and very mindful of all they do. i believe u can better defeat an enemy who respects u a lot than through fear. krieg ohne hasse means war without hatred was the constant order erwin rommel, the most successful and also most feared by the allieds, german general during WW11. uptill now, he is the only hitler general whose huge successes in france and north africa were achieved without a single massacre. he even disobeyed hitler on several instances to massacre people and enemy soldiers. This way, ur enemy trust u and can easily surrender without any fear. can u surrender to an officer who promised to shoot even when u are surrendering with a white handkerchief in the air? |
I think the best assured to develop is to go the japanese way. Less than 300yrs ago, Japan was a feudal, backward, hungry, uneducated, uncivilised and perpetually in turmoils country whose very few elites were going to china then to learn about adminstration and science. However, the average japanese has two characters that brought out of the woods: the japenese are very observant to new ideas and wont balk to try it out. It got to a point that after copying everything the chinese were doing then and not satisfied with themselves, they went to court all western countries to help develop their science, education and technology. Within a period of 50yrs, the chinese who incidentally were their first mentors started coming to japan to update their knowledge. Wat made all these awesome achievements most striking was that japan never enjoyed any domestic political peace or strifeless environment but all never made them to loose focus. |
the truth is that the introduction of the US military would only complicate issues. remember, how they mismanaged wars in iraq, afghanistan, somalia etc. they have always wanted to enter nigeria since the time of niger delta crisis when they planned sending a force of 25,000 troops to protect our oil fields. however, if we dont want to learn on the job, how do we gain the necessary wealth experience so as to improve? |

lord naya, the ibos dream of ever becoming president is a very good idea by any means. however, their efforts to achieve this noble aspirations would be torpedoed by their fellow ibos as they have so much perfected the art of killing such plans in infancy. lord naya, i share wholehartedly with u this ambition but my greatest concerns are always fellow ibos who are always too greedy and over arrogant to step down for each other and support each other for the greater good of Ndigbo. all these ur rantings wont amount to anything if ur leaders behave true to type. the yorubas have a saying which goes thus: ILE NI A NWO, KI A TO SOMO LORUKO which means WE LOOK INTO CURRENT EVENTS IN THE HOUSE B4 WE NAME A CHILD pls lord naya, look inwards and go and beg ur ndigbos not to be overly ambitious come 2015 or else they might eventually lose their mojo outrightly for ever. a word is enough for the wise. |
this isue of the north standing alone was the main reason behind the 1966 coup that brought gowon to power. immediately, he was sworn in by the coupist he wanted to secceed his region-the northen region then-from the union if not for the british diplomats then who dissaded him from such folly. if the northerners had the intention of secceding in 1966 and ploted a coup iin order to achieve this, they could stand alone now. this is because before u ever decide pulling out, the economic implications of such extreme actions would have been exhaustively thrashed out. meanwhile, 45yrs later u nairalanders are still doubting if they could survive. truly, oil has turned most nigerians into lazybones however the truth and harsh reality is that kaduna state is the most blessed nigerian state in mineral resources boasting of documented 42 natural resources. we, other nigerians from other regions have land not too conducive for mechanised farming. if these agriculture sector is developed further and embrace full mechanised farming, dont be surprised they could be earning more from this than oil is presently giving them. although initially, things would be tough for them just like the north sudan which lost 30% of their income to the southern sudan independence but in 25yrs time, they might regret for listening to the british advise in 1966. |
The latest awesome bombings and shootings, is a sad reminder to the state of war nigeria is presently being gradually bled off. However, the truth is that GEJ cant get to the root of boko haram with an hausa moslem as an IG of police. He would always be sympathetic to fellow moslem grievances. I will only see the FG in a different light, the day it replaces him with a southern moslem or middle belt christian. Other security agencies are still been led by the right tribe. If GEJ doesnt act now, i think it is high time, all nigerians started blaming GEJ for sacrificing innocent people's lives by playing the nepotist game with his long time pal, hafiz ringim's inefficiencies and misplaced loyalty. |
it is widely reported that there are between 1m to 3m guns in private individual hands in nigeria. i would assume about 500,000 weapons, even this conservative figure means is that at least each state would have close to 20,000 depending of course how stable such state is. although, maiduaguri has always been a relatively state until the coming of boko haram, however, instability in neighbouring states like plateau has been in constant warfare and nothing like this can better dissuade any peace loving people from arming themselves should in case the crises spill over. but it must be noted that from the mode of operations of boko haram, it is an organisation which depends least on the power of guns and ammunitions unlike any other in the country. wat this imply is that lesser guns might be in circulation there. but even with their constant usage of explosives, they would still need likely thousands of guns to protect them self against direct attacks by the nigeria security services. hence that 5,000 is still too small. |
Since Obj time, the presidency has a 400 employees under its payroll. Wat i dont know is if this figure still correct. However, u know nigeria factor where an N85,000 flat screen tv goes for N450,000. Unfortunately, we are still in the same country where corruption is only waxing stronger despite all the wars been fought against it. |
Wat criteria would u use to determine dictators when most of are undeclared dictators? |
@volvoS30, u are right. however, we all have dirty past and mistakes too. Wont u then be grateful they have MENDed their ways? |
Nigeria is on her way to become the world superpower b4 2015. because in a country where everyone is so bent on destroyin his/her neighbours, then, u have too many guns but most are dying from hunger. If GEJ is wise enough, he should ask boko haram, mend, akwat akwop etc to go and provide security for liberian president sirleaf johnson during next elections just as she has requested. |
@volvoS30. What made u to accuse the old man like that? |
@Yeske! Obviously, u sounded even worse than mend and boko haram. Lol. U want all the more than 100billion naira jega used to bring all those bash ali honourable senators to be a waste? U know the number of roads, pipe borne water, cönstant electricity etc that money could provide in nigeria. Too bad of u pal. Lol. Pls dont encourage boko to go there now. Lol. I believe they would mend their ways. |
Too bad the venerable OPC leader is trying to be partial in dealing with MEND & BH. All his statements to the latter were heavily laden with threats but talks softly to MEND. Aside from OPC leadership, he should be seen as an impartial national elder as i still see him to be. And i wish he doesnt talk softly again with to bombing terrorists either they emanate from the creeks or from maiduguri. |
As far as corrupt leaders still continue plaguing our nation, each time MEND, EGBUSU BOYS, OPC, BH, etc are been crushed, others more militant groups only rise from their ruins. This is simply because we all, criminally, abandoned the root cause of all these so many unrests. I understand close to 3 million rifles are in the hands of nigerians mostly illegally and more enters everyday. And we all expect our 200,000-strong police and a 83,000-strong military to be able to perform magic? If good & responsible governance is restore across nigeria, i see no reason for current perpetual upheavals. |
@belante, wat makes u think this present govt would be any different from others? The truth is that close to 40% of our national wealth is been frittered away through leakages in the system u call corruption. Even if GEJ throws 200billions dollars to improve power supply, corrupt politicians would simply pocket it. U remember the case of 15billion dollars OBJ threw at power. Despite the stance he publicly took against corruption talkless of an autopilot by the name GEJ. If u want to develop nigeria EFCC must be strengthened and the sidelined so called anti corruption bills in both the senate and house of reps be redusted and passed. The day capital sentence goes with corruption, we would be the happier for it. |
During the fall of 2008, i was in germany. One thing i found out was that a liter of petrol went for 1.5 euro < N200>. However, we wont be too fair on ourselves if we used this singular factor to justify a complete removal of subsidy. The truth is that the german per capital income stands at about 35,000 dollars while ours is a meagre 1,500 dollars. Aside from this, if u travel from one end of germany to the other, u will always see where all money go to. Hence, when taxes are raised, the german citizens would be 100% certain of seeing corresponding developments around them. Unfortunately, we have always be getting criminal and inhumane treatments from our leaders. Worse, wat is the probability that any savings in subsidy removal wont end up in someone's pocket? Can our fellow nairalanders compare developments in those countries with ours. If our leaders cant use the more than 500 billion dollars on oil revenue since independence to develop us, do u think the extra 2 billions in subsidy removal would bring would be used for development and wont be shared in aso rock? |
If bad roads are claiming so many roads, how many are being killed as direct results of lack of drugs in our hospitals, lack of good sanitation, pipe-borne water, uncounterfeited drugs etc? These are direct consequences of govts successive gross inefficiency and corruption. |
Everyone is condemning boko haram for killing about eight hundred ppl since 2009 but nobody is condemning the FG & state govts who 'killed' 2,441 in just eight months in various preventable road accidents as a result of bad roads. Although, the loss of a single life is quite regrettable, it would be helpful if we start seeing our three govts as equally culpable most especially if the fight against corruption must be won. |
I am too happy that we nairalanders know wat the problems are but i am very sad that if one of us becomes the next works & housing minister, things would only get worse. We all know the prob but most of us will still take part in its propagation. There is no nigerian works minister, b4 appointment, who hasnt been as concerned about our roads. And worse, it cuts across all strata of nigerian life. This is the nigerian malady. |
It is a known fact that JIHAD and CRUSADE mean the same thing holy wars. While b4 declaring a jìhad, the nation's moslem highest body must first extensively discuss and when agreement is reached, the fatwa<decree> passed. The same thing is applicable to crusades too which must be sanctioned too by the pope himself. All the seven crusades launched against the moslems and the four crusades launched to kill all the jews were sanctioned by the popes in the respective times. Our nigerian christians are so fond of deliberately ignoring this very vital fact. If boko haram is claiming to be waging a jihad, most nigerian moslems wont be looking them as a group of deranged youths. One thing is very glaring, terrorism, in any form, is quite anti islamic. U surely cant use anti islamic methods to achieve islamic goal. It doesnt make any sense at all. According to the interview, this Boko haram has thrown more light on the mauritania influence which most nigerians are so ignorant about. Worse, our security agencies deliberately hide this link but only to be shamefully trumpeting the somalia connection. This shows ppl in leadership positions are gaining something from all these and hence are trying their best to hide the most basic information. I weep for this country. I weep for boko haram for flying islamic banner to cover and justify their terrorist acts. Worst, i weep for non-moslems to eager to link every violent act with islam with the most unobjective mindset. |
Scientifically, ladies are naturally gifted with the great power of intuition much than men. Surely, women are too sentimental however these sentiments usually lead to able to accurately tell u about the future. |
Very good threat but a very stupid idea by an anarchist. I dont think any other idea, if implemented by the idle mind who mooted it, could break nigeria much faster. If they are so stupid to go after boko haram, it would only make all the northerners to join boko haram and worse GEJ might be even be overthrown and the resulting northern headed govt will promptly send the military south south in order to crush ur insurgency. All these would take place within three months. Most of u would have been killed b4 the 4month and ur mothers, wives & sisters raped. These ex-militants are so dump and stupid to throw away all the gains they have acquired from their decade-long agitations. Something the ibos with much more education, intelligence, determination and population have not been to reclaim in four-decade agitation. I wísh them goodluck but i think i owe them one thing: attendance of their joint funerals. |
GEJ is never serious with the way he is presently handling every issue of national importance-most especially on tackling boko haram. Less than a month ago, it was widely reported in national dailies that there was an unwritten agreement between northern leaders and SSS so that the latter would secretly be releasing any northern terrorists to the former. To make matters worse the same SSS is insulting our intelligence by placing a 25M bounty on someone who wont even stay in cell for a day. This a gross waste of taxpayers money. If GEJ wants to be seen as being serious, even for once, he must sack the top echelon of SSS leadership in order to repair the shattered confidence the public has in the service. Aside from this sacking of top SSS echelon, all the middle echelon must be so widely transfered where they wont pose any problem again. The tactic must be used too in other security agencies most especially police and army. If no such secret agreements are not existing in jos and maiduguri, the problems would have been revolved long ago. A word is enough for the wise. |
Soyinka has just goofed. I used to be happy each time he took on OBJ, not anymore. The timing is even the best time. According to soyinka himself, boko haram has promised to bomb 18 nigerian universities beggining with UI. If soyinka has a child in one of these schools, then, he would have been the worst nigerian dad. I want to ask soyinka one question. How many nigerian students' lives does he feel is equavalent to to the destruction of boko haram? For him to be saying this in a country where impunity reigns supreme, is even the worse gaffe anyone of his calibre can commit. Has he forgotten how chief bola ige was killed so brutaly and not a person was ever in jail now for that offence? Instead of suggesting ways to tackle boko haram, he wants to dampen the spirit of someone who took great personal risks to do just that. Prof pls amend ur ways. If somewhere as protected as that UN house was easily breached, wat then would befall our universities which, unfortunately, are one of the least protect in the world. |
It is a very unfortunate reaction from some splinter anti-negotiation group within boko haram. However, the various attempts by both soyinka and fellow nairalanders to rubbish OBJ's efforts are more unfortunate. Nigeria is a one of the most highly experienced country in the world in peace negotiations. If u want to be a successful negotiator, u must first be an impartial arbitrator who treats every allegation as a fact and goes the extra length to unearth the truth. Unfortunately, we nigerians arent living to type. Some months back, a national daily reported the existence of two splinter groups in boko haram; one for peace and other anti-peace. I am expecting our learned nairalanders to be encouraging GEJ to strike a deal with the pro peace group in other to isolate the other group. If this is done, we would gain a billion-dollar savings in high value intelligence{from former boko haram guys} and a much more faster crushing defeat of the still violent group without even firing a shot. If we use force, we stand the most horrifying reactions like uniting them or swelling their ranks with symphatetic civilians. Did the leveling of odi brought an end to militancy attacks in the niger delta? It only rekindled it. That was why Yar Adua's application of cane and carrot proved the most successful tactic. What our unguided pals dont wat to admit is that when this issue goes out of hand, any arbitrator would want to know wat efforts at negotiations have we taken. A word is enough for the wise. |
Wat i think these so called men of God is up to is just ensure that when they die, their spouses would just take over quite easily from them without the least resistance from their over ambitious junior pastors. It a way of indirectly introducing successor to the world. I fear for the day when most of these pastors would have died, 99% of churches would be under female pastors in gross disobedience to even the bible itself. |
Nuclear power generation with its enormous drawbacks and risks, unfortunately, still remains the most feasible means to industrialise if we are serious about industrialisation. Gas power plants have their own drawbacks too like when gas supply ceases and are much more expensive to maintain. A 2 billion dollar Nuclear plant can generate abt 2500MW. The is almost wat is been generated all over the country now. If we can build 3 nuclear plants, we could surpass the 10,000MW quite easily. The greatest strength, nuclear power has is that, though it is expensive to set up, it is a system that cant be shutdown except in extreme emergency or unavailable until the fuel rods are due after two yrs. Hence if u want uninterruptible low cost power for over 20yrs, nuclear is the solution. However, the two major probs are disposal of spent fuel and the high operational risks involved. In a nutshell, the advantage greatly outweigh the risks. |
I feel very sad that some nairalanders arent following current events world over especially in modern diplomacy. Two yrs ago, the americans sent former president jimmy carter to go negotiate with their arch enemies syria and Hamas to know wat they want so that there would be peace for isreal. Although the american govt publicly denied sending carter but their were enough evidence to the contrary. In iraq, the americans couldnt defeat the various shiite and sunni militias running wild then killing american troops anyhow until the US struck mouthwatering deals with them to divert the guns from them. In the deal, the americans cleverly cut out the a militia stronghold and ask the militia to provide 247 security in that area and by each month end paying them from a quater million dollars or more depending on the size of the area. That was how they were able to pacify iraq. In afghanistan such method are, quite obviously, not working because unlike in iraq they cant buy the afghans. The problem is that anyone who can google would know that u can only hire the afghans temporarily because they are too determined as an adversary. The most strident opposition to any sort of negotiations with the talibans, has always been the USA. However, after ten yrs of unleashing the most devastating weapons of 100,000 americans, 40,000 NATO troops and 400,000 afghan troops on the less than 50,000 talibans and unfortunately as a direct consequences of very harsh realities on the grounds where the talibans still manage to control about 65% of mountainous afghanistan. Now even the ealiest calls for negotiating were made by american commanders when they saw, firsthand on the battlefields, the futility of further attempt at militarily defeating the afghans. The bitter truth is while the american drones kill taliban leaders everyday, the same american govt in conjunction wit the afghan govt are busily negotiating with representatives of taliban leaders. In a nutshell, 99.9% of wars have one thing in common: they start and end on the negotiating table. they break out when arrogant belligerents refuce to negotiate peaceful for settlement. Hence let obj continue to negotiate while the army prepares for the worst case scenarios. The yorubas have a saying goes thus: B4 U FIGHT, U MUST HAVE PAINSTAKINGLY REHEARSED HOW BEST TO PRESENT UR CASE B4 ARBITRATORS. This might even explain why other tribes, mistakenly call us cowards. |
