If you’re one of those people who can’t stop tweeting even when they are on vacation, you might find the world’s first Twitter-themed hotel, in Magaluf, Spain, to be the perfect summer destination. Ever-growing customer demands, the need for diversity and the increasing number of social media addicts all over the world have inspired Meliá Hotels International, the leading hotel chain in Spain, to create the world’s first ever Twitter hotel. Located in Magaluf, Mallorca, the @SolWaveHouse Hotel allows guests to interact with its staff and other tourists via text-based messages of up to 140 characters, known as “tweets”. The hotel’s General Manager, Gonzalo Echevarría, says “the hotel takes a new step in meeting the expectations of an increasingly experiential and social customer profile, through new technologies.” At the heart of this social-media-themed hotel is #SocialWave, a virtual community accessible only from its wifi via smartphone, tablet or computer. Once they’ve registered with their Twitter accounts, guests can use #SocialWave to connect with other tourists, chat, share photos and even flirt by sending virtual kisses. There’s a special hashtag for pretty much everything, and two Twitter Concierges are always standing by t meet guest requests via Twitter and generate conversation in this virtual community. Every available space at the @SolWaveHouse Hotel encourages guests to log in and share their experience. Minibars feature a “Thirsty? Tweet Us #FillMyFridge” sticker, bathroom mirrors give social media junkies the chance to win an extra one-week stay by taking a photo of themselves and tagging it “#suitcontest” and big mustache stickers invite tourists to share funny selfies on sites like Instagram. “Our main client profile, young and social, is always looking for new experiences and emotions shared with a growing virtual community,” one of the Twitter concierges at @SolWaveHouse explains. With # SocialWave we wanted to meet this aspiration, which binds to the quality and striking design of our product and the outstanding beauty of the environment. ” Source: http://myoddnews..com/2013/08/worlds-first-twitter-hotel-caters-to.html

Under pressure to end their relationship, Davon Smallwood, 25, and Ariana O’Neal (pictured above), 21, both of Queens, New York, committed joint suicide by leaping in front of a train going 80 miles per hour, reports the Daily Mail.com. A Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) officer discovered a suicide note, next to a black garbage bag filled with clothes, vodka and a can of Coca-Cola, which read: “Two great people are going to paradise… everything will be good.” The couple, who left behind a 2-year-old daughter, were allegedly distraught the O’Neal’s mother forbade Smallwood to enter their home after he became involved in illegal activities. According to the New York Post, O’Neal’s mother did not like Smallwood at all. “Her mom didn’t want the boyfriend living with all of them,” said her landlord, Kinsley Senio. “She didn’t like him.” Read more from the New York Post: The two were arrested earlier this month for allegedly stealing jewelry from a Jamaica, Queens store. A neighbor said they both dyed their hair red recently. Terri Simmons, who lives directly across from the station, said she had never seen Smallwood before, but often saw O’Neal moping around the area. She would spend hours sitting on a urine-soaked stairway leading to the railroad platform. Simmons, 50, said she approached the young woman several times to ask if she was all right, but she never even raised her head. At around 10:15 p.m. Monday, Simmons heard a “boom” from the bodies’ impact with the Manhattan-bound express train, and ran to the station. … The engineer spotted the couple moments before they leaped in front of his train, but was unable to stop in time, he told investigators. The impact cracked the windshield. About 125 passengers were on board the train, which was held at the station for nearly two hours as the couple’s mangled bodies were removed According to a Long Island Railroad spokesperson, the train originated in Huntington station, and was passing through Hollis station enroute to Penn station going the “maximum allowable speed” when the couple jumped. The engineer was treated for minor injuries at a nearby hospital and released. Alleged family members and friends of the couple have been commenting in message boards, passionately defending their relatives. Wrote one poster on Newsday: “…these two where in love an [afraid]. In the fall of 2012, [Ariana's] dad left the state with [their] child [and they] haven t seen her since. They lost everything. had no where to go because people disapproved of their relationship. Not everyone is strong; some people are very weak, so don’t judge because most of [y'all] out there have issues. Don’t throw stones if [you] live in a glass house. I knew them both and [their] hearts were heavy. May they rip — praying for both families hers and mine.” In response to criticism of Smallwood, one family wrote: “While you guys are judging my cousin, he comes from a family of love. He was and still is loved please refrain from your nasty a$& comments.” SOURCE: http://myoddnews..com/2013/08/new-york-couple-commits-suicide-by.html

How safe are your debit and credit cards? Identity theft and fraud affect millions of Americans every year. And depending on how much thought you put into your personalized PIN, you could be at a greater risk than you realized. So what constitutes a safe PIN number? A new study from DataGenetics lists the top 10 most-used PINs. And because they are the most commonly used PIN numbers, they are by default the least safe PINs. According to Forbes, the United States and Mexico are home to the greatest number of credit and debit card thefts around the globe. Forty-two percent of Americans say they have suffered from some form of card fraud, a study from Aite Group and ACI Worldwide shows. The Department of Justice says that about 10 percent of all Americans suffer from credit card fraud each yearand another 7 percent have their debit cards hacked or stolen. More than $5.5 billion in theft is attributed to credit card fraud each year. The DataGenetics study says that credit and debit card thieves are able to successfully guess more than 25 percent of stolen card PINs within 20 attempts. And no surprise: the worst PINs are those that are overly simple or sequenced, i.e. “1234.” WTOP notes that the best PIN numbers are those “with no special significance.” And in the case of the study, DataGenetics said the least used PIN is “8068.” The 10 most-used PINs: 1234 1111 0000 1212 7777 1004 2000 4444 2222 6969 SOURCE: http://myoddnews..com/2013/08/the-10-most-easily-stolen-atm-card-pins.html

56-year-old Mark Temperato has spent the last 36 years assembling the world’s largest drum kit. The amazing instrument is made up of 813 individual pieces, including drums, cymbals and bells, and its creator needs an hour to hit every one of them. Mark Temperato has always had a thing for drums. He has been building his custom drum set for the past 36 years, and he’s not planning on stopping anytime soon. A reverend at the Breath of Worship Church, in Lakeville, New York, Mark, who also goes by the name “RevM” has been using the popular musical instrument to “praise God” and get His word out “in a very different way”. Adding new pieces to his set every year, the amateur musician always thought he had the biggest drum kit in the world, but it wasn’t until his two sons, who are also drummers, prompted him to contact Guinness Records that he considered making the title official. Last year, RevM finally got his name mentioned in the Guinness Book of Records after managing to hit every one of the 340 drums and cymbals from a sitting or standing position without taking a step to either side. But the newly-obtained titled only fueled his obsession with drums even more, so he spent the last few months adding hundreds of new components to his set which currently numbers 813 different pieces. Hitting every single one of the 813 drums, cymbals and bells seems like an impossible task, but while RevM admits it takes him around an hour to do it, he says his 28-inch-high chair allows him to reach every piece. The monster set weighs around 5,000 lbs and requires 17 hours of maintenance a week. It takes four people working diligently 14 hours to assemble the drum set, and another 10 hours to break it down and packet away. To take his pride and joy with him on the rode, Temperato uses a customized 18-wheeler trailer truck fitted with compartments for every drum and cymbal. RevM stopped at 813 pieces to have it match his birthday (Aug. 13), but he’s already thinking of ways of adding more stuff to the drum set and plans to reach the 1,000 pieces mark very soon.
