The First Lady, Mrs Aisha Buhari, disclosed that President Muhammadu Buhari suffered from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) which had consequences on her for many years, following his involvement in Nigeria’s civil war without rehabilitation.

Mrs Aisha made this known yesterday at the ground-breaking ceremony for the Armed Forces Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Centre (AFPTSDC) initiated by the Mrs Lucky Irabor-led Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA), where she was the special guest of honour.

Also in attendance were the Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, former President of Malawi, Dr Joyce Banda, Vice President of Liberia, Dr Jewel Howard-Taylor, Member of the UK House of Lords, Baroness Sandy Verma, Minister of Defence, Maj-Gen Bashir Magashi (rtd), Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Lucky Irabor, and the service chiefs.

“So, at the age of 19, I had to figure out how to tell somebody of his calibre that he was wrong or right and that was the beginning of my offence in his house, and contesting elections in 2003 and failed, 2007, failed and 2011, the same thing – all without rehabilitation – I became a physiotherapist,” Mrs Buhari said.

She also revealed that her husband’s toppling as the military head of state, and subsequent detention for 40 months without being charged with any offence severely contributed to his ailment

“It is a reality that soldiers and military families have to live with, despite its negative consequences. Being a soldier’s wife or a retired soldier’s wife and a wellness expert, I understand the challenges associated with PTSD and its impact on military families and the nation.”

“My husband served the Nigerian Army for 27 years before he was overthrown in a coup d’état. He fought the civil war for 30 months without rehabilitation; he ruled Nigeria for 20 months and was detained for 40 months without disclosing the nature of his offence,” the first lady noted.

“Failing election for three times was a big blow to every contestant but those that have contested for just yesterday, a simple primary election, they are still living in a traumatic condition, I tried to console them, I tried to talk to them, some of them have switched off their phones up till today, just because of a primary election.”

“You can imagine me at 19 years, handling somebody that went to war, suffered coup d’état, then lost several elections, and, finally, getting to the Villa in 2015. Also, for a woman to tell them that this is wrong or right in Nigeria and Africa is a problem.”

She thanked DEPOWA for its support of soldiers facing PTSD,

“I thank DEPOWA for this initiative and the military establishment for supporting them. I call on them to ensure that this centre provides quality and sustained care for soldiers that suffer from PTSD.”

Popular Nigerian singer and DMW signee, Akinmayokun Awodumila, popularly known as May D, has publicly bragged about bringing the Amapiano style of music to the Nigerian music industry.

What is Amapiano?

Amapiano is a style of house music that originated from South Africa in 2012 and it is a hybrid of deep house, jazz, and lounge music characterized by synths, airy pads, and wide percussive basslines.
The singer’s claim comes few hours after the DMW boss, Davido dragged South African Record Producer, DJ Maphorisa for downplaying his role in the success of Amapiano music in Africa and giving his credit to Wizkid and Burna Boy.

However, May D, in a post shared on Twitter, said he brought the genre of music to Nigeria and there are awards to prove his point.

The “Ile Ijo” crooner further laid claims to being the starter of the Nigeria-South African collaboration, adding that Davido was next to him.

Daniel ‘BNXN’ Benson formerly known as Buju has been named the 2022 Headies Next Rated award winner.

The singer beat Ayra Starr, Lojay, Ruger, Zinoleesky to claim the highly coveted prize that came with a brand new car.

Mayhem erupted at Mile 12 area of Lagos on Sunday following the killing of a member of the parks and garages, Sulaimon Onaolapo, popularly known as Akiru.

His body was seen on the road, after he was reportedly shot by gunmen on Sunday. The incident led to pandemonium in the area as commercial activities were paralysed.

There were intermittent gun shots as rival cult groups engaged in supremacy battle following the killing of Ariku.

Traders hurriedly shut their shops and took off to avoid being caught in the mayhem that ensued.

Report indicated that the dispute occurred when a cult member named Akiru was hit by a rival cult member which subsequently led to complete mayhem.

The deceased was said to be the chairman of the Motor Park under the Mile 12 bridge, a position he was before the state government banned National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and handed over the affairs of commercial vehicles operators to a 25-man committee.

The report of the clash quickly spread on social media as users warned Lagosians to stay off the Mile 12 axis for now as there was mayhem in the area.

Former Nigerian president, Olusegun Obasanjo, has made a comment about the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate for the 2023 election, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s visit to his residence in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The former Nigerian leader joked about Tinubu’s statements which became a public sensation.

Obasanjo, who spoke at the inauguration of a 300-man planning committee on the installation of the new Olowu of Owu,m Oba Saka Matemilola, said he told Tinubu that he had added two phrases to Yoruba vocabularies.

While addressing an audience on Thursday, Obasanjo who spoke in his native Yoruba language said: “We have three new words introduced into the Yoruba political dictionary: ‘Emilokan’, ‘Eleyi’ and ‘Olule’. These three vocabularies are now popularly used.

Tinubu deployed his propagandist machinery to discredit President Goodluck Jonathan’s government to install Muhammadu Buhari in 2015 but unfortunately Buhari has failed woefully. This is the drawback of propaganda.

Sam Omatseye, the chairman of Tinubu’s The Nation newspaper added more to the raging political with his controversial article title Obi taking a swipe at Peter Obi’s ambition.

Obviously, the bulk of Peter Obi are from his ethnic stock (Igbo) from the southeast including the Biafran agitators that have changed tactics in recent times. Agitators of Biafra used propaganda to militarise the whole of south east, they are now in charge of Obi’s propagandist machinery.

Both Tinubu and Obi need to caution their followers not to add to the precarious security challenges Nigeria is currently facing. They should allow Nigerians to freely exercise their franchises as we move to change our elected leaders peacefully in 2023.

Foremost Nigerian movie director, Biyi Bandele has died.

Moji Delano gathered Bandele, who is the director of Netflix‘s original movie, Blood Sisters and responsible for the adaptation movie of Chimamanda Adichie‘s Half Of A Yellow Sun unexpectedly died on Sunday, August 7.

The announcement was made by his daughter, Temilade Bandele via her Instagram platform.

The cause of his death is yet to be deciphered.

“I am heartbroken to share the sudden and unexpected death on Sunday 7th of August in Lagos of my father Biyi Bandele,” the statement announcing his death said.

The statement reads further;

“Biyi was a prodigiously talented writer and film-maker, as well as a loyal friend and beloved father.

He was a storyteller to his bones, with an unblinking perspective, singular voice and wisdom which spoke boldly through all of his art, in poetry, novels, plays and on screen.

He told stories which made a profound impact and inspired many all over the world.

His legacy will live on through his work.”

The concluding part of the statement reads, “He was taken from us much too soon. He had already said so much so beautifully, and had so much more to say.

“We ask everyone to please respect the privacy of his family and friends as we grieve his loss.”

Biyi Bandele made his directorial debut film with the movie adaptation of Chimamanda Adichie‘s Half of a Yellow Sun. The was screened in the Special Presentation section at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival.

He also directed the third season of the popular MTV drama series, Shuga.

In 2022 he directed the first Netflix Nigerian Original series, Blood Sisters.

Tobi Amusan’s has set the running world alight with another brilliant performance in the 100m hurdles. The Nigerian athlete, who also holds the World Record in the event, now has the Commonwealth Games record to go along with it.

Amsuan set a new Commonwealth Games record as she stormed to victory in the event on the final day of the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. Amusan beat the Bahamas’ Devynne Charlton and England’s Cindy Sember as she set a new record of 12:30, the Commonwealth’s website confirmed.

Tobi Amusan made history by becoming the first Nigerian to win a gold medal at the World Athletics Championships.

Mustapha Balogun, a former Inspector-General of Police (IGP), is dead.

Family sources confirmed the death of Balogun, who became IGP in March 2002 on Thursday night, but did not go into details.

Italians are debating whether a Nigerian street vendor could have been saved from a fatal attack by an enraged Italian man that played out in public as bystanders watched. Mourners left flowers and placards denouncing the violence and the indifference of those nearby.

On Saturday, as strollers promenaded along a bustling shopping street in Civitanova Marche, an Italian town on the Adriatic Sea, Alika Ogorchukwu, 39, was left for dead after first being struck with his own crutch and then pummeled furiously by the suspect.

“Four-minute long horror,″ headlined Corriere della Sera, noting that other Nigerian immigrants in the town had decried the indifference and racism seen in the killing.

A judge on Monday will rule if the alleged attacker, identified by police as Filippo Claudio Giuseppe Ferlazzo, 32, should remain jailed during the investigation.

Police investigator Matteo Luconi said the assailant went after the vendor following “insistent” requests by Ogorchukwu to the suspect and his female companion for pocket change. The slain man’s lawyer said he was attacked after complimenting the woman’s beauty.

An autopsy will help determine if Ogorchukwu died from the beating or possibly was strangled as he lay on his back, his attacker on top of him and striking him.

Ogorchukwu frequently peddled packets of tissues or cigarette lighters to customers, local shopkeepers said.

During a popular talk show on Italian state radio Sunday, listeners called in to decry the indifference of at least two bystanders who filmed the event and the fear the attack generated.

One listener recalled a young man beaten to death by a gang of Italian youths near Rome in 2020 when he tried to defend a friend and subdue a fight. A court recently convicted four Italians, sentencing two of them to life in prison, for the killing of Willy Monteiro Duarte, a cook whose family originated from Cape Verde.


On Sunday, people paused at the spot where Ogorchukwu died, leaving flowers and tying placards to a tree, including one denouncing “violence, racism, indifference”.

Some radio listeners were indignant that two bystanders used their phones to film the attack and no one apparently tried to pull the suspect off his victim. The police said some did call to report an attack in progress, but by the time help arrived, Ogorchukwu was dead.

One caller asked the host what would he have done if he were there.

“I would have kicked him,” replied Mario Sechi, director of the Italian news agency AGI.

The attack comes as Italian politicians begin campaigning for an early parliamentary election on September 25. The anti-migrant head of the right-wing League party, Matteo Salvini, has made immigration as well as protecting citizens from violent crime his top issues.

On Sunday, Salvini in a tweet contended that his centre-left opponents were exploiting the Nigerian’s death to “accuse me, the League and millions of Italians of racism. Squalid”.

Archbishop Rocco Pennacchio, whose diocese includes Civitanova Marche, decided that in place of homilies, several minutes of silence would be held at Sunday’s Masses.

The mayor of the nearby San Severino Marche, where Ogorchukwu lived with his wife, son and a niece, said the town would pay for the funeral. Italian media said local citizens also started fundraising to help his widow.

I remember in 1996/97, one of my egbons had a plug to get people to US effortlessly. I really wanted to go too but the only thing I had to do, according to him, was to get an international passport showing that I was born 6 to 7 years earlier and claimed I was working in one of the government establishments. I couldn’t do that because I knew the importance of choice in fulfillment of destiny at that early age. It was a bridge I couldn’t cross so no US for me then.

Now I am being persuaded to vote a man that made a choice to change his lineage, date of birth, name and past to fit into a profile. He has unrepentantly continue to perpetuate the falsehood. A man linked with drug trades, corruptions and political murders. His only qualification- he is a Yoruba man though he has no attributes of Omoluabi. Am I a saint? Not by any stretch of imagination but there are certain bridges my omoluabi attributes will not cross.

If they wanted us to support a Yoruba man they should have given us Osinbajo. They gave us a man that came into prominence, not by persuasion of ideas or rectitude (which he lacks in abundance) but by making Lagos his fiefdom where he cornered their wealth to buy the system. Lagos’ wealth made Tinubu who he is and not any political sagacity. Lagos made him richer than even OSUN state, as he boasted, enough to ‘persuade’ the judiciary to bow to his will and convince enough thugs. I guffaw when they compare him with Papa Awolowo. Have you read papa’s books and thoughts before. Has Tinubu ever sounded like a man of conviction and ideas like Papa Awolowo? Can Papa Awolowo ever suggested that the way to tackle employment is by recruiting 50 million youths into the army and feeding them agbado?

People with no values or sense of history will call their betters “omo Ale” because we refused to follow a thief to Golgotha when we have a “saint” Obi in tow. They know we are not like them looking for crumbs to eat from the Tinubu’s debauchery family banquet. We won’t follow a man that boasted like Nebuchadnezzar that he made presidents and governors, forgetting that there is the One called the Almighty that rules in the affairs of men, because we know how it will end for him. Supporters of a man accused of being a drug lord can continue genuflecting on his debased altar but the few selected on the mountaintop of values and integrity will not bow to their bronze god standing with a clay feet.

The same people that wasted 8 years of a nation’s life, destabilizing unity and prosperity, want to give us another relic that dishes out political patronage to buy loyalty not for progress. The only thing going for him is that he cannot be worse than Buhari. I hate being right or being told down the line that ”You were right” a la Buhari’s disaster of a presidency.

We will continue shouting oooo. Their response is “Tinubu will be your president whether you like it or not” as if when the sky is falling it is a matter of one person.

The controversy surrounding the paternity of the former Lagos State governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu was renewed’ on Monday’ as members of the Tinubu family in Lagos confirmed that he had no genealogical relationship with the family.

The family, in a book entitled, ‘Onijumu Wura; the Tinubu dynasty of Kakawa Street,’ launched in Lagos, said the former governor is not a biological member of the family.

Tinubu had earlier traced his family background to the popular Tinubu family of Lagos, but critics debunked this claim, insisting that he is from Iragbiji in Osun State.

A section of the Tinubu family, apparently worried by the controversy this had generated in the state, decided to write the book that chronicled the descendants of the family which did not include Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The author of the book, Mr. Rafiu Babatunde Tinubu, who is also a former Head of Service in Lagos state, insisted that “all members of their that bears the name must have biological relationship with the cleric, the late Alfa Muhammed Bugara Tinubu.”
He said, with the book, the family needed to put the record straight for posterity.

He said the decision to publish the book was to ensure that the name of the family was not polluted.

“Hence, the research into the origin and place of the family became a prominent agenda that kept reverberating at every meeting of the family.”

“…I was mandated by the family at its meeting sometime in 1982 under the chairmanship of Papa R.B. King to research into the evolution of the Tinubu family in Lagos in view of my antecedents as a lecturer at the University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University.”

A video of singer Davido and his uncle, Ademola Adeleke, hugging and celebrating as results from the portal of the Independent National Electoral Commission show that the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Adeleke is leading in the ongoing Osun governorship election.

The results showed that PDP is leading with over 10,000 votes. The portal also showed that over 87 per cent of the results have been uploaded.

“We did it this time,” Adeleke said, to which Davido responded “yes.”

Former Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki was also seen in the video, with the singer hailing him “SP.”

In a video shared online, Davido and his Uncle can be seen celebrating their lead in the election. They got so emotional they began to cry.

The Osun governorship election of July 16 2022 has been concluded and INEC officials are collating results to determine the winner between the two leading candiadates, namely the incumbent governor Gboyega Oyetola of APC and senator Ademola Adeleke of PDP.

A viral video has surfaced online where the national secretary of the ruling party, APC Iyiola Omisore was booed by onlookers and bystanders when he paid unscheduled visit to the INEC office.

Whether you love him or hate him, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a powerful figure in Nigeria, especially since the start of the fourth republic in 1999. He served as a senator during the brief experiment by General Ibrahim Babangida (IBB) with the first diarchy (combination of military and civilian) government in the 1992 elections that resulted in the June 12 of 1993 election’s annulment. After two terms as governor of Lagos State, Tinubu is still active in politics and had a key role in President Muhammadu Buhari’s victory.

Tinubu is the APC’s presidential nominee for the general election of 2023, and he must pick a running mate. Ibrahim Masari was chosen as a placeholder or a stand-in to be his running mate to beat the deadline of INEC, the national election body

Thus, Tinubu, a Muslim, chose Alhaji Kashim Shettima, a fellow Muslim and the former governor of Borno state, to be his running mate, which caused a stir in a religiously sensitive Nigeria. Confusion has been exacerbated by the opposition party’s PDP’s selection of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, a Muslim, over Christian governor Ifeanyi Okowa.

One could argue that the 1999 constitution of Nigeria declares it to be a secular state and forbids religious discrimination, but a closer examination of this claim reveals that it was Nigerian politicians who turned religion into a contentious topic. Politicians in Nigeria frequently play with issues of ethnicity and religion in order to win elections.

Since we adopted the American presidential system in 1979, the religious balancing has been in place after a candidate has emerged. The vice president of Shehu Shagari, a Muslim, was Alex Ekwueme, a Christian. Olusegun Obasanjo, a Christian, had Atiku Abubakar as his Muslim deputy. With Christian Goodluck Jonathan serving as his deputy, Umaru Yar’adua, a Muslim, led his country. Yemi Osinbajo, the acting president, is a Christian, and the actual president, Muhammadu Buhari, is a Muslim.

Many claim that MKO Abiola, the winner of the election held on June 12, nominated Babagana Kingibe, another Muslim, to be his running partner, and that they both won. If Tinubu wins, there will be no precedent to compare because he is not requesting that his election be nullified.

Continuing the argument, since 1993, Nigeria’s dynamics have shifted. In contrast to Tinubu, who is hardly a regional leader, Abiola was a national figure who positively impacted all parts of Nigeria through his charity and political efforts. Second, regardless of the Muslim Muslim ticket, Nigerians were prepared to vote out the consecutive military governments because they were sick of them, along with the lies and shenanigans of IBB.

After 23 years of intermittent civilian government, things have gotten progressively worse. Nigeria is today severely divided along religious and ethnic lines as a result of Buhari’s incompetence and sectional behavior.

Nigerians are wary of manipulating religion as a result of the Boko Haram insurgency, banditry, and homicidal onslaught of Fulani herdsmen motivated by religious doctrine. Another cause for concern is the nepotistic appointments made by Buhari to posts in the federal administration.

Thirdly, the argument that Tinubu cannot choose a Muslim running mate suffices if APC can zone the presidency to the south based on the north and south rotation of powers, which was not mentioned in the 1999 constitution. Therefore, Tinubu made the wrong option by selecting Shettima and the Muslim Muslim ticket.

Politicians’ antics can no longer be used to dupe Nigerians.

The man who killed Shinzo Abe believed the former Japanese leader was linked to a religious group he blamed for his mother’s financial ruin and spent months planning the attack with a homemade gun, the police told local media on Saturday.

Tetsuya Yamagami, an unemployed 41-year-old, was identified as the suspect after Japan’s longest-serving PM was shot from behind.

The suspect was seen stepping into the road behind Abe, who was standing on a platform at an intersection, before firing two shots from a 40-cm-long weapon wrapped with a black tape. He was tackled by the police at the scene.

Yamagami was a loner who did not reply when spoken to, neighbours said. He believed Abe had promoted a religious group that his mother went bankrupt donating to, Kyodo news agency said, citing investigative sources.

“My mother got involved with a religious group and I resented it,” Kyodo and other domestic media quoted him as telling the police. However, the Nara police declined to comment on it. Media have not named the religious group he was reportedly upset with.

Yamagami assembled the weapon from parts bought online, spending months plotting the attack, even attending other Abe campaign events, including one a day earlier some 200 km away, media said.

He had considered a bomb attack before opting for a gun, according to NHK, a public broadcaster.

The suspect told the police he made guns by wrapping steel pipes together with a tape, some of them even with five or six pipes, with the parts he bought online, NHK said.

The police found bullet holes in a sign attached to a campaign van near the site of the shooting and believe these were from Yamagami’s gun.

A spokesman for Japan’s navy said a person named Tetsuya Yamagami served in the Maritime Self-Defence Force from 2002 to 2005.

He declined to confirm whether the person was the suspected killer. “Yamagami joined a training unit in Sasebo, a major navy base in the southwest, and was assigned to a destroyer artillery section,” he said. “During their service, members of the Self-Defence Force train with live ammunition once a year. They also do maintenance of guns,” an officer said.

Japan’s former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was on stage, delivering a speech at Nara when he was shot, reportedly in the chest.Shinzo Abe was rushed to a hospital bleeding, with first responders saying he was “showing no vital signs”.

“Former prime minister Abe was shot at around 11:30 am in Nara. One man, believed to be the shooter, has been taken into custody. The condition of former Pime Minister Abe is currently unknown,” Japan’s chief cabinet secretary Hirokazu Matsuno told reporters.

He has gone into pulmonary cardiac arrest, local media reports suggested. Visuals from the spot showed several ambulances and emergency response teams trying to rescue him. A photograph showed Abe lying face-up on the street by a guardrail, blood on his white shirt. People were crowded around him, one administering heart massage.

A man in his 40s, who appeared to have shot Abe in the back, had been arrested for attempted murder and a gun had been confiscated from him.

A reporter of public broadcaster NHK on the scene said they could hear two consecutive bangs during Abe’s speech.

Shinzo Abe, 67, was making a speech at the campaign event and “a man came from behind”, a young woman told NHK.

According to reports, Shinzo Abe collapsed after a second shot was fired. Several media reports said he appeared to have been shot from behind, possibly with a shotgun.

Japan is a country with some of the strictest gun laws among leading economies and shootings are rare.

Shinzo Abe, Japan’s longest-serving prime minister, held office in 2006 for one year and again from 2012 to 2020, when he was forced to step down due to the debilitating bowel condition ulcerative colitis.
