****this tuturial is for Educational purpose alone ****

seeing how CS on strong 4669 series decoder is now the main thing,, i have gotten a lot of calls from people on how they can use it and so on.

here's simple how to on what u need to do:

you need to have the following:

1. a strong 4669x, XII, or Z, 4669z is best because it saves you the trouble of looking for or making a serial to RJ45 adapter or a serial to rj45 cross over adapter if you do not have a router, hub or switch. those with the other decoder tyes might need to look for firware that allows them IP settingon their decoder.

2, internet connection: with any of the networks you can get cheap internet for as low as 1000-/month for glo or mtn which are the most reliable.

buy a 3g Modem and and activate the sim card, load 1000 naira and,

MTN: text 106 to 131 to get 100mb/month
GLO text 13 to 127 to get 150mb/month

starcomms, Multilinks and Swift all have flexible package you can also subscribe to.

* by now any serious satellite hobbyist that does not have a working internet plan is just fooling arround. U need internet now, just like you need Air or water on a daily basis.

3,Router is best, save you a lot of wahala but they are not cheap, the cheapest will set you back like 8k plus. if you don't have the cash you can turn your system to a router, but this means that your internet will always be on anytime u want to watch something interesting that is not FTA.

4. a working cline. or just google some free clines. by now there are a lot free clines that will open JSC sport, NOva, ART, PHELA, BADR, SKY Italy etcc and they usual work for like 24hrs. they are excellent for testing. but if you need to really use CLine, u need to get a commercial one that will give yoour heart peace.

5. a very good TV. CRT is old school, FLAT screen is better but if you really need to enjoy it u need a plasma, LCdor LED or 3D tv set.

now let move on:

THOSE WITHOUT ROUTERS, SWITCH OR HUB

fist thing u need to understand is that for your system to share internet with your decoder u need a crossover cable. to eliminate this u need a hub or switch in between and then a regular patch cable.

cross over cable ares easy to make, just get a crimping tool and then switcrh the position of the orange and green pairs and you are set. the only snag in using a crossover cable is that you need to give you box a satic IP address because it will be hard to run DHCP when doing internet connection sharing over a crossover cable. go to the IP setting of your strong decoder and give it a static IP address, something like 192.168.0.23, then subnet 255.255.255.0 and then gateway 192.168.0.1. on your system give your LAN card the IP address 192.168.0.1, subnet 255.255.255. then right click on your internet connection click on the saring tab and let your Local area connection be the source for the sharing., click save and then connect both the BOx and the computer with the cable and then connect your internet.

if everything goes well with a good cline, you shold be screaming eureka.

if not go back to each of the steps and see if there's something you missed. remember if you are using a serial to rj45 adapter and you do not have a router , hub or swwicth, u still need a crossover cable between your system and decoder.

IF YOU CAN AFFORD A ROUTER:

most routers comes with a web interface configuration and they are quite simple and straight forward. the IP address of the router are usual given at the back of the routers. for example http://192.168.0.1 will bring you to the web interface of the engenius router. once you log in, you can manually input the APN, username and password of the network you are trying to use, a 3G router usual have a USB interface at the back for plugin in your 3G routers, some other routers like the BIGPOUND have a sim slot where u just directly plug in a sim thereby nullifying the need for a modem.

once you have done the configuration, the ROuter will automatically connect to the internet and then you can plug in your network cable to connect your devices, the steps for using your strong decoder is the same as outlined before, the only advantage is that with a router the decoder has unlimited access to the internet and you do not need to be arround for anyone in your home to watch.

these things are actually easy to do and in case you run into problems, you have the almight google.com to help. I am available here for any question that you may have.

It's a whole new frontier now, don't be left out!

@figment  The dreambox 500s is mpeg 2 while srt 4669z is mpeg 4,so i think you shd go inn for strong srt 4669z .thank you
they are both in two different class, if you live in a home where Internet subscription is a priority every month likemine then please do not buy the strong decoder as the dm500s will unlock your dreams, no more multi TV, zuku and son on, but if you are contented with watching multi TV and the rest please go for it. but there's a reason why the dreambox is the best satellite decoder ever made!

Hhmm . . . . We don't even use biometric here but the elections are more reliable then Nigeria can dream of.
obviously public office in the US is not as lucrative as it is in Nigeria. Politicians will do anything to win elections in Nigeria! they are among the richest people here. so we need a failsafe system to checkmate rigging.
PoliticsRe: Here We Go Again: CPC Rejects Presidential Election Result by olofofo(m): 8:43pm On Apr 18, 2011
we will continue to have issues with our electoral process if we keep leaving rooms for rigging. what is the point of biometric registration if it's not going to be used for elections. can inec please enlighten us on how they were able to checkmate multiple registrations, underage registrations and voting., imaging a situation where there's a unique ballot paper for everyone that is registered to vote with your names on it. if you don;t turn up to vote no one will use it. tell me how they will rig then.

imaging using your finger print to vote, how can that be rigged? our leaders are always thinking of themselves and how they will benefit and not the nation and that's why we will always have problem of legitimacy of elections. imaging the new electoral act with the new tender ballot act in it. seriously, who's fooling who?

the National ID is one tool that will solve all these problems, but no one wants to give it a chance. I worked on the project and we already have a central database of everyone that registered and was issued a national ID card, no Nigerian has two national ID cards, it is authentic, legitimate and will solve all these problems, we seriously need to start finding intelligent solutions to out problems. all these BILLION NAIRA guzzling elections should stop.

enough of all the castigation of Seun and other MOD on nairaland. i do not know where their allegiances lie, but i will have you know that seun was among the first to put this video on face book and a new blogging site called tumblr: http://seun.tumblr.com/. Although i have noticed that his views are titling slightly towards PDP, but i guess in a democracy we all have the rights to chose our Devils.
PoliticsTender Ballot Act In The Electoral Act by olofofo(op): 11:33pm On Apr 12, 2011
is this law fishy or what?

A TENDER BALLOT

As indicated in Subsection (1) of Section 60, it is issued in a situation where someone applies for a ballot paper to vote, whereas records indicate that another person has voted in the name given by the claimant.
ITS SUBSEQUENT RELEVANCE:

Subsection (4) of Section 60 states: “The Presiding Officer shall, when he tenders a ballot paper under this section, enter the name of the voter and his number in the register of voters on the list to be called tendered vote list and the tendered vote list shall be produced in any legal proceedings arising out of the election.”

,

what's the point of the biometric registration?
how do differentiate a phony ballot from the main thing?
what if voters are actually given fake ballots to vote with instead of the real thing?
were Nigerian lawyers sleeping when this law was made?
am i the only one who sees this law as a dangerous tool in the hand of the ruling party?
how come it took the arrest of the printer in abuja for us to know about it?
does the opposition know about it?
why was the 1 million phony ballot destined for Buhari's stronghold?

question, questions and more questions.

we can not fully talk about change and how the PDP is losing without getting the true picture of the election, all we have been able to get are bits and pieces from all around. one thing i can confidently say is that the days of PDP's total majority in the senate and the lower house is over, as an alliance between cpc, AC, Labour, APGA and accord on important bills might just tilt the way of the opposition.

av into the televes modulator, set the channel and loop out into the next modultaor with the av into into it, like a series like that. setting different channels for all of them.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Professional Services: Breaking Satellite Installtion Barriers! by olofofo(op): 7:20pm On Mar 08, 2011
televes and alcad AV modulator will do fine. u can overlap the channels in UHF and VHF so that there will be no interference. you might also want to get an image booster to ensure uniformity over long distance.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Professional Services: Breaking Satellite Installtion Barriers! by olofofo(op): 9:39pm On Mar 07, 2011
it depends on the type of receiver and av/rf modulator that you are using. also u might want stick to a manageable number of channels as 30 might just be a bit too much. try sticking to about 20 channels and you should be fine. relying on the modulator that's inbuilt in decoders will not suffice in your case.

do no t take a stance like that just because people have a contrary opinion. keep doing what your heart tells you and leave the rest to God. we are all here to share and learn something.

on the issues of the old 17 on w7 and new 17 on the new satellite, i believe they are meant as platform for terrestrial broadcast in some southern African nation. let's not rejoice too much on the matter as what is here today will be gone tomorrow.

if really this our Thread is about FTA then we should not always jubilate anytime encrypted channels become available temporarily. if you want to enjoy dstv the basic subscription is about 2500 which is equivalent to $16 monthly, or try and find out what is happening on the "dark side of FTA" else let concentrate on real free to Air, which unfortunataly you can not really enjoy without a motorized BUD"

viva FTA.

just because it is free today does not mean that it will remain free for ever, the more people that enjoy it while it is free the better for all of us. try and share as much as can especially when it has too do with temporarily FTA channels. they are left free to air for a reason.

the link u posted was the one i was advicing against. for a good satellite meter with a BER( Bit error rate) fucntion, you might need to shell out upto $300 or more. The first is one is the one i use personally while the second is the more professional one with a spectrum analyser which will set you back more a $1500

@George_D:
Hello Sir! Long time and a Happy and Prosperous New Year to you and the family. Please, I got this question: can one use an analogue satellite finder meter with our digital boxes or are analogue meters for analogue boxes and digital meters for digital boxes? A friend bought the stargold (SG-20SF) satellite finder. On it is written (amongst other things) “For analogue and digital signals”. But, man I wasn’t impressed with the results when I tested it. Sometimes you lock unto a satellite and it doesn’t beep. At other times it beeps even though you’ve not hit a satellite. If analogue finders could be used with digital boxes, which may be really good and cheap? Thankx for your anticipated reply.
to start with, not that many analogue channels on satellites anymore. you might want to get a real satellite meter as those types u talk of are basically good for nailing birds directly above our heads.

the LNB u are using matters, I would advice the 4 way stargold fuji, also, are you using the original scalar that came with your fibre? , if not, u need to get one and lastly as niddle_9 pointed out, try the lnb skew between 7-8 o'clock. the tp u are looking for is 11727v, already you are getting playboy TV and private space on the nova package. Good luck!
