@enitan

i beg too differ on your comment about badaru knowing there was something wrong with the echolink decoder. I told him that iw as having problems updating my own and he told that probable i was not doing it right , that i needed to click connect while switching on the STB, only for him to call me later regarding how he has not been able to update it as well.''am still doing some research on why it is misbehaving, it is definitely not the cable, i have tested all kind of cable, even soldered same by myself 5-5. 2-3. 3-2.

so badaru telling you there's something wrong with the echolink is definitely after he tried too upgrade as well.

@toxnaija

you go say This olofofo guy no serious. no mind me, na this weekend na him i go free from the work wey i carry give myself. i will definitely credit adewest's account latest Tuesday . na when him go come remain, i caught you on air last night as well, YEYE guy, i wan sabi you die! my question is what are oyu still doing with LTV? you oought to move on, i think you are that good. ( now stop Blushing!)

no mind anything. him get serious fear of Nilesat. since i did my installation of nilesat. my 1.8 motorized has lost out. it just can not compare. he has space for 2.4 but he'll rather go for 1.8, strange fellow. him and badaru tight die, no come asunder oooooo.

@obnelly

the echolink decoder comes with a card sharing facilty like that of the humax receiver, it use a format know as GBOX SSSP. you can convert the serial port to a network port via software like WSP, SHAREMAX and several other that i have not been able to lay my hands on. i have tested the WSP and it works. the only snag is that i have not been able to get a free card sharing server to test it with. will keep working on it until i make a news worthy breakthrough.

abeg book me down for one abracadabra card oooooooo. just the card. what it is going for? i have a starsat 6300 cu that works with it as well.

meanwhile, everyone should know that even though art and showtime are opened right now. updating with the new software has been a problem. there seems to be something we are all missing. the decoder is just not recognizing the com port. anyone with a solution to this problem should please let us know.

huhGeorge_D, your lnb cutting is wrong-I had told alcovx where to do the cutting,at the end of the white covering. As it is now you are losing 10% of signal which can make or break your installation.
wish you success.
i did not really cut it yet, just opened up the face with a knife, so george goo ahead and collect info from jujukemist on how to really cut the LNB.

what is the cost of installation of that stronger dish for 1.8 motorized?

toxnaija and i are still waiting on your account info and a date for your coming, please send the info to olofofo@gmail.com

are all those lnb KU? i noticed the digisat in the Middle,

@all

i just realised tonite that the actual channel for sport on that package is showtime maghreb (ART). they show about 3 premiership matches per day, even more than showtime sport 1 and 2 which show the same matches together most times, tox, if you are looking to enjoy the echolink, show Maghreb is the channel to have. the down side to this is that i heard they might be leaving the package next year and also all their commentaries are in French.

liveonsat now provides a 2 weeks schedule of matches and i checked and found out that MAGHRED will be showing like 70% of the matches over the xmas break.

if you are using it for nilesat, then you will have to cut it like that, it improves the signal tremendously. no it will not be damaged from weather but you might have to remove cobwebs from inside once in a while

you can only use abracadabra cards with echolink and some ali c type decoders for now. the only other type of that decoder i know of in Naija now is starsat 6300 CU super. it goes for 13k, Plus 35 euro for abracadabra, it comes to about the same thing for the echolink.

olofofo,
I just spoke to Adewest about the visit and the bill.the bill could be scary if you no get liver.due to the distance,we have to cough out something in the range of 60k including Echolink/Abracadabra.It is cheap compared to what Nilesat installers charge in Lagos-100k.i don't know what he would charge others oooo.remember say i be him manager so na man know man price.he will confirm his arrival date soon.But he will be on leave in January,so book him down now for your nilesat/hotbird.
My discussions with him is as regards dish, neck and cost of bringing him to lagos,cost of installation will be discussed when arrives. i already have echolink same for ola and butoneday soon. he really needs to clarify what he means by the 60k tag, is that per person or what. i already asked him to provide his account so that i can pay the cost into his account as we discussed earlier.

it was just to offset Adewest's expenses on the trip to Lagos.the idea was mooted by olofofo.i felt it was not bad.you are the only person raising eyebrow.i was envisaging this,but i didnt want to discourage olofofo so i kept mute.if you felt we were being fishy,i think Adewest should just come quietly and leave after his installation.i never complained about paying his bills.On eurostar,you got it right.if you can pick nilesat with 1.8m in PH,then 2.4m would pick Showsport in the Lagos area.
tox,
pito was just pulling your legs. we have about 5 guys now. once adewest gives me the green light of when he wants to come, i will inform everyone that is interested.

Toxnaija and I are trying to get adewest back to lagos to do a 2 session live installation of NILESAT and HOTBIRD motorized. 10 people can witness this two installation for a fee of 1500 each and it will at toxnaija's place and then at my place. the incentive is to help cover the cost of transporting the equipment and other miscellaneous expenses.

anyone interested should get in touch with me or tox. it's strictly first come first serve basis. any interested person has to be a member of this thread.

Greeting to all you Guys on this thread, I have spent quite some time going through all the post on this thread and I must give a big kudos to the wonderful research and contributions being made up here.

I just got to hear about FTA from a friend few weeks ago when I told him that my DSTV subscribtion has expired and I have no money to reload. He suggested FTA but he doesnt seem to know much than it being a free satellite service. So I got on the internet to do my findings and here I am thrilled by all the basic info.

Guys, I need clues as to what I can do with my DSTV dish and decoder. can it work the FTA servicehuh Please advise!!!
bros,

it always help to read previous posts as answers to your questions may already be there.

anyway, you can use your dstv dish but if you want to get the fully FTA exprience you might want to settle more a 1.8m motorized dish or go all out for a 2.4m dish or both, this is in case you have the cash and space to go with it.

you can just go ahead and sell you dstv decoder cause it has no place in the FTA world.

Please reads previous post on how to go about you journey or just keep folling this thread, am very sure that oyu wioll learn a thing or two regarding your endeavour.

so when are you coming back to lagos for me and tokunbo's installation. i need to know if showtime is actully possible on 2.4m dish, even if it's not motorized. also i will like some tip on how to use the digisat lnb, i find it really short compared to the fuji that i am used to. also some tip on using dual KU lnb with my present NILESAT intsalltion will help, so that i can balance the TPs that come at night with the ones that show up during the day.

@olofofo,
Update us on that Echolink reciever of yours. Is it good for tracking? What is the signal level compared to Strong 4663X? We know the latest strong X-series recievers boosts up weak signals compared to the old 4652. Is it the same with the Echolink?
george, no mind me ojare. i dey feel the decoder no be small. of late, i have been exploring the card sharing facility that it has and i must say it's quite interesting.

the signal quality is the same as that for x series strong, because i have a 4663x which loops signal out to the echolink. i have been enjoying it so much, that why i am taking steps to get a bigger dish for the full showtime bouquet. dstv, really does not compare to showtime, imagine a years subscription is about 60k.

george na sayso dey delay your package ooooooo, if i no hear from am by tommorow, i will go ahead and send your saturday.

found out that ECHOLINK DECODER Has an additional feature of beoing able to do card sharing with the GBOX SSSP TechinicC, which is what allows you do card sharing over the regular serial port.

I gave it a spin last night with some free card sharing links and i got great results, i will be posting the full results and software used to the group soon.

@all,
I think one interesting fallout of bodejohn's satellite dish puzzle is our need to have a reliable magnetic compass. With a compass, one can tell right away the azimuth of any installed dish and with that info, you only need to check dishpointer to fish out the satellite the dish is pointing to. I for one think this is an essential tool for any FTA hobbyist to have and I'll like to buy one.
Anyone with an idea where I can get a good magnetic compass? Please hala me. I will keep it handy while driving around.That way I don't have to guess which bird any dish in my area is pointing to.

@ bodejohn,

use freq. 10757, simbol rate 27500, polarization (v), as your beacon freq to track nilesat, it is the first transponder on any of your strong decoders under nilesat. also, instead of fiji lnb, try out digisat or santech if you can lay your hand on any of them. after getting the highest signal possible on the above say 80-85%, this may not give u signal on other tps until u get the dish alighnments right/ tweek the lnb till you get signals on the other tps,  after the above freq. go to 12130/27500(v) and try to get up to 66% signal strenght and above, this would guarantee u steady picture signal strenght on all the other tps. your guaranteed signal strenght on any tp is 50% and above.

@ all,

these are the tps with signals on my setup @ my location here in suleja; the dish is 1.8mtrs eurostar/ strong 4663x;

10,757/27500 (v) 82%,  11,747/27500(v)55%, 11,766/27500(h)59%, 11,785/27500(v)57%, 11804/27500(h)53%, 11823/27500(v)58%, 11843/27500(h)56%, 11862/27500(v)60%, 11881/27500(h)57%, 11900/27500(v)63%, 11919/27500(h)53%, 11938/27500(v)67%, 11958/27500(h)57%, 11977/27500(v), 11996/27500(h)50%, 12015/27500(v)57%, 12034/27500(h)57%, 12054/27500(v)66%, 12073/27500(h), 12130/27500(v)70%, 12149/27500(h)48%, 12207/27500(v)69%, 12226/27500(h)47%, 12284/27500(v)67%, 12303/27500(h)45%.
